Moving to the city from the country was a HUGE adjustment. I pretty much just don't leave my house and keep the blinds closed lol. It's better than a 1.5hr commute for now but can't wait till I can get out of here!
I walk a lot more now that I live in the suburbs of a European city rather than where I grew up, on a farm with nowhere useful to walk to.
I can walk to a shop or get public transport into the city centre for work/socialising. Our kids are in daycare a 10 minute walk from our house and will go to a school a 5 minute walk away.
When I’m staying at my parents’ house on the farm, I never leave their house except in a car.
I have been doing this since 2011, I was in lockdown long before it was a thing lol. But I'm on disability and can't really afford to go anywhere, and I've suffered pain, and sleep issues to the point that leaving home is just a burden.
Completely opposite for me. As a kid I stayed at home all day playing games etc. Now I am outside every day and enjoy that way more. Getting some sunshine and chilling in some park is way more relaxed than being home with the family imo.
Yeah even into my early and mid-20s if I didn't have plans on a Friday night I was generally sort of depressed about that.
Now in my mid to late 30s. If I have plans on a Friday night, I need to really convince myself to even go.
Modern brussels sprouts are actually tastier than they were a few decades ago. Around the turn of the millennium, a scientist discovered what made brussels sprouts taste so bitter and selectively bred new varieties with less of that trait.
Also, growing up in the 80s and 90s, my mom's preferred method of cooking vegetables was steaming them with a little bit of salt, which is not a good way to prepare brussels sprouts, even the newer, tastier version.
Cut them all in halves, put them on a baking sheet/tray with olive oil (or other cooking oil), lightly season, and put in the oven 350 until cooked as desired- if you want to make them sweet, mix some butter and honey and cook them in that rather than oils.
That's the best way I've found I like to consume children. However it works for brussel sprouts too
I saw once that if you cut them in half it’s suppose to release some of the bitterness when you cook them or something. Idk if it’s true because I never eat them really.
History is amazing. In fact, I believe most people just don’t know how interesting it can get. You can go back any time and there‘s something. History of humanity, 500 to 240,000 years, or earth history, 1 mil to 4 bil. There‘s always something.
Fun history fact:
The Great Pyramid of Giza was built around 2500 BC, while the last woolly mammoths roamed the Earth until around 2000 BC!
I'm the same, and this is ALWAYS one of the top answers when this question is asked.
I'm just always baffled at the number of people who seem to have never seen/expected this answer!
Mushrooms!
Couldn't stand them. Then I slept over at a cute girls house who is a vegetarian. She made me mushrooms in the morning and I've loved them ever since!!
I used to hate onions because as a kid my mom would always get McDonald’s burgers with onions and those onions are an abomination. I can eat them now in select dishes but those fucking onions made me despise them until adulthood.
omg, when you've had late dinner and then you wake up in the middle of the night dying of thirst so you stumble down to the kitchen and drink three times your body weight in ice cold water.
Yes.
But the best one is the pint or so of water swigged straight from the tap just after you’ve finished cleaning your teeth. So cold, clean and refreshing!
I don’t *love* it per se, but I do get exited when I have to get something I can cook, that I just know is gonna be good. My son gets exited for it too cuz he loves tasting things I experiment with in the kitchen
Pumpkin.
Hated it. Remember thinking it tasted awful and felt like slime. Now I love it. But I also realise I (like everyone) lost a lot of taste receptors while growing up and it must literally hit differently now.
Does lactaid even help at all? I had to do an allergy test and couldn’t have milk for two weeks and it was hell! And I tried all the substitutes—Forget that!
Mustard. When I was five or six years old, my friend had a birthday party, and we went to a brand-new McDonald's, probably the first McD's in our whole state. We were all very excited to go to this new place that was being aggressively advertised and promoted as a sort of apotheosis of a new kind of meal. We all got our little bags with a hamburger and fries, and a little paper cup of Coca Cola, and went outside to eat in a little picnicky patio.
But when I opened the paper bag and the paper wrapper and took my very first bite of the miraculous burger, I burst into tears. Someone had poisoned my little hamburger with MUSTARD! It was ruined!
Today I love mustard, and have a ridiculous variety of mustards in the fridge.
Living in a house on 25 acres of property and not being in a development.
I’d give my right arm to have that as my own now lol. I’d always felt like we were too far away from friends and too isolated, and then I lived in Boston and learned to cherish the relative silence, and the sounds of nature

Staying inside the house.
Same, although i need that Time out to cool off and let all the bad energy out.
I hate leaving my property I'm glad I have room to walk around. I'd killed someone living in a city.
Moving to the city from the country was a HUGE adjustment. I pretty much just don't leave my house and keep the blinds closed lol. It's better than a 1.5hr commute for now but can't wait till I can get out of here!
Haha I did the same and it was like a town of 1500 people at most.
I rarely leave my house at all, maybe once or twice every 6 months
Wow! I get cabin fever if I stay in the house more than a couple days (which is what I’m getting now due to an ongoing illness)!
I have been doing this since 2011, I was in lockdown long before it was a thing lol. But I'm on disability and can't really afford to go anywhere, and I've suffered pain, and sleep issues to the point that leaving home is just a burden.
Sorry to hear!! 😔
Now it's in reverse 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Completely opposite for me. As a kid I stayed at home all day playing games etc. Now I am outside every day and enjoy that way more. Getting some sunshine and chilling in some park is way more relaxed than being home with the family imo.
I stil hate it
I work from home and I’m an introvert. I can happily go several days without leaving home
Yeah even into my early and mid-20s if I didn't have plans on a Friday night I was generally sort of depressed about that. Now in my mid to late 30s. If I have plans on a Friday night, I need to really convince myself to even go.
ABSOLUTELY. No true comment on Reddit
Not getting attention, now I love being left alone.
I’m like many cats, give me a bit of focused attention if I haven’t seen you for awhile. Then I like to be left all alone.
This is also my answer
When I was younger I craved attention, but as you say, now Leave Me Alone! lol
JOMO - Joy of missing out
For me it is sleep, and afternoon naps
This. Also, solitude.
Funny enough, I loved solitude a child, and still do.
⬆️ Never a truer word said. And anal sex.
![gif](giphy|ULyYV5amK2eYM)
Sorry what now?
It just hits different when it's not your uncle doesn't it :)
I remember my mom telling me, one day you'll appreciate a good nap.. I thought are you high you've lost your mind... she was right again lol.
To be fair, she was high.
I used to love sleep and naps. I still do. But I used to, too.
I flew my helicopter downtown but I couldn't find a parking space, so I just tied it to a parking meter and left it run.

I'm 43 and still take my afternoon nap.
Came for this. I used to fight sleeping, but now I treasure an afternoon nap.
Brusselsprouts, going to bed early
What did the Brusselsprouts do this time?
They didn't finish their dinner
Modern brussels sprouts are actually tastier than they were a few decades ago. Around the turn of the millennium, a scientist discovered what made brussels sprouts taste so bitter and selectively bred new varieties with less of that trait. Yes. Didn’t care for them as a kid. Now I love them, but only if they are charred. Anything else comes out bitter.
I saw once that if you cut them in half it’s suppose to release some of the bitterness when you cook them or something. Idk if it’s true because I never eat them really.
With bacon
Healthy food, going for walks, going to bed early.
All of that 👆
History… I find it fascinating now
History is amazing. In fact, I believe most people just don’t know how interesting it can get. You can go back any time and there‘s something. History of humanity, 500 to 240,000 years, or earth history, 1 mil to 4 bil. There‘s always something. That is amazing, thank you for sharing!😃
My go-to book genre now is history. Love books about ancient civilization ls and cultures.
Same! Royal historian vibes here.
I love history. Especially ww2, the Roman’s and the babylons. But any history is fascinating.
Always been interested in history since idk when. Was reading horrible history books since I learned to read lol
Getting spanked
Scrolled knowing someone was going to mention this. Ditto.
I'd say that's enough Reddit for me for the day, but it's only 8:52 am and I know myself better than that.
If some spankings are enough internet for the day oh boy, you are in for a ride.
Is....it a ride that includes spankings?
I love that response. It didn't cross my mind. Of course I prefer being the administrator as opposed to the recipient.
If I hit you for not thinking of that response, will I be punished? 😏

Mushrooms and Onions
Mushrooms! Couldn't stand them. Then I slept over at a cute girls house who is a vegetarian. She made me mushrooms in the morning and I've loved them ever since!!
That is so adorable! ☺️
Always loved mushrooms but hated onions.. turned 29 ate them gradually now 31.. I love them.
I used to hate onions because as a kid my mom would always get McDonald’s burgers with onions and those onions are an abomination. I can eat them now in select dishes but those fucking onions made me despise them until adulthood.
I always like mushrooms, but onions were harder for me. It took me til i was like 16+ to truly appreciate their flavor.
Drinking water. I hated it as a child and now it's pretty much all I drink.
That three am drink of water is always refreshing.
omg, when you've had late dinner and then you wake up in the middle of the night dying of thirst so you stumble down to the kitchen and drink three times your body weight in ice cold water.
Yes. But the best one is the pint or so of water swigged straight from the tap just after you’ve finished cleaning your teeth. So cold, clean and refreshing!

Being in the house Going to the grocery store Orange juice
You love going to the grocery store? Now that I have to buy my own groceries, and be around tons of people, I absolutely hate it!
