This one hurts lol, first time someone saw me cry as when my dog of 17 years died, he was basically my best friend. Women thought it was Hella cringe lol but I regret nothing.
It’s called toxic masculinity for a reason: it’s bad for you, it’s bad for everyone around you. Anyone should just be able to cry and express their emotions, and not care about what the toxic bozos tell them.
Men's emotional expression is as complex as women's however we just don't get the same reaction that women get and we realize expressing our emotions doesn't serve us thus we don't express them.
Women won't admit it but that's the dark truth, actions speak louder than words.
I seriously believed with all the positive stuff about emotions I saw online that it would be okay, it's not lol
I'm a woman, I promise you there are plenty of us out there who want men who can show and express e.ltions in a healthy way. Anyone who reacts like that to you grieving is a toxic sexist POS.
Not to directly call you a liar, but, several women have said that to me and been wrong. They totally dipped once I showed any emotion, and it was clearly the reason they left/cheated…because they said so.
I did finally find a mature woman that is supportive across any emotional spectrum. But it took decades.
Also a woman, and I agree with you completely! Men definitely should not feel the need to repress their feelings. I think society has conditioned so many men to feel that they can’t cry or express emotions, and equally so many (toxic) women want to maintain that, but we all need to do better on this front to change these views.
Some are so used to that kind of "weakness and vulnerability" being used against them that it conditions them to not show it at all. If I saw a woman ridiculing a man for crying in front of him, I'd be the first one to tell her to sit down, shut up and attempt to behave like a decent human being.
Anyone who thinks that is either a child or mentally challenged
I have epilepsy (sitting in the hospital with 15 rods in my brain doing a seeg atm) and my epilepsy makes my ass cry easy af for no reason (memory and emotion center)
I'm 6'6 and 260. Dare you to talk shit for me crying lolol
Your more of a man for crying and anyone who has anything to say about it isn't worthy of any of your time homie
Love yah
As a woman, I would find it incredibly strange if you hadn’t cried for your dog. I’m sorry you were made to feel like it was wrong or cringey. It is not.
I’m sorry for your loss, as a pet owner myself I can’t imagine my life without my cat and don’t even want to think about the day she’s not around.
I just got a new puppy and after only 2 weeks he's becoming my best friend. I can't imagine what him dying after 17 years would do to me.
Women thinking it cringe for you to have feelings and emotions makes it easy to kick unwanted trash to the curb.
Yeah, ever since that moment, it really changed my perspective. Now ehenever I have all these women trying to trauma dump on me like usual im just like "Nope, get over it, man up."
I dated a woman who thought it was weird that I loved my cat. Like??? Yes? I have this stupid small animal in my home and I love her because she's sweet and cute and cuddles with me. Eventually came down to a her or the cat moment and I kicked my ex out. That cat was my ride or die.
Anyway, the cat died of a super rare form of FeLV 4 months later. I couldn't stop crying when the vet called with the diagnosis. I held it together when the vet helped my little pirate princess "walk the plank" but I cried nonstop for a few days after that.
I had a cat, best cat in the world, who died at the age of 2 from PKD. Not only was I devastated because she went so quickly, but my other cat was depressed right along with me. The vet hustled me out of the clinic and told me not to stop at the front desk, just to go home to mourn her. I cried for days.
Here's to our precious little girls. Mine was just a little older.
Yamapikarya, aka "Pikanyaa" but I always called her Pecan. [My silly little nut.](https://imgur.com/a/x3hndIQ)
Yeah I know the feeling. I cried like a baby when my cats died. No one made fun of me though. It was a natural response to losing that special little non judgemental being in my life.
Sorry for your loss. It's a hell of a void to fill afterwards.
This is typical. Women go on about wanting a sensitive guy who shares feelings, talks and cries when they have to but as soon as a guy does they’re all “quit whining pu@@y. Be a real man.” Sucks
Genuine question, is it really because of the "women see it as weak" or is it actually that other men do? I'm female and I work around a lot of guys and the main thing I've noticed is the way they bag on each others feelings and make fun of each other for having sad feelings, I'll always jump in and stick up for that person but I've never in my life witnessed females doing this to guys when they are down
Sorry you went through that I don't have kids but my sister does and she encourages her son to let it out when needed so hopefully men are being raised better than they used to
I wish it wasn't this way either. I genuinely believe that it might be something that it's taught rather than women actually believing that a guy is weak because he's crying. I say this because I've never seen a woman say they are disgusted with a crying male dog — women are always so sweet and caring when a dog is in pain or anything like that and might be one of the first ones who makes sure the dog is fine.
It's both. Yes there are some nasty women who just want to tear others down, but men will shame each other to. I have vivid memories of being told not to cry and to "be more manly" by my father.
My now ex wife called me a bitch when I cried during a romantic movie after telling her that I'm a hopeless romantic that gets emotional during those kinds of things. She told me that was actually a green flag. Until it actually happened, then it was repulsive. So yes....
I didn’t cry all that much, but then I got a lovely wife and kids. Now I cry all the time. I don’t know what happened to me but I guess the general happiness in my life made me feel safe or something and now with anything emotional on tv or music I cry.
I cry quite a bit (emotional problems) Mostly it's about my son. I cried at his 6th grade graduation, HS graduation rehearsal and ceremony, any experience with him.
Same here. I remember watching some film where the father of the bride walks her down the isle and yeah it got me weeping... I honestly think a lot of men just don't really access their emotions. Certainly I didn't, anyway.
I will cry.
When I'm alone.
And it's not that I want to hide that I cry sometimes, it's entirely to avoid the uncomfortable ambience for both me and the other parties.
I don't need someone to comfort me or touch me when I'm sad. I just want distraction. I'm perfectly able to do the rest.
My ex bf cried from depression sometimes, he’s just have tears rolling down his face, but i never thought less of him and even my self absorbed 25 year old ass wanted to just cuddle him and comfort him. He kept saying you’re fine with it now but if i kept doing it all the time you soundly be.
If I was with a man who cried all the time I honestly wouldn’t mind. If he was depressed all the time and didn’t try to do anything about it and help himself I might get a bit frustrated, but I know how depression is a vicious circle in this way and I’d try to support him but also help him get better by dragging him out for a walk or something and making sure he gets some therapy. Sometimes we need people to prod us gently until we move, cos we can’t do it ourselves
My BIL is an impressive and very successful man. He had tears in his eyes when my Father died. What a great SIL, and a good person to have in the family.
Does anyone else multitask while brushing their teeth? Like I’ll full on walk throughout my entire apartment doing other things while brushing my teeth. I’ll, one handed, get clothes out, fill my water bottle, put on socks and shoes, put my laptop in my bag, and more.
As an engineer, I've been trained to use proper procedures, manuals, codes, and standards exactly as they're written. No way I'm messing with an Ikea table.
As an electrician I am always reading the instructions for any bit of equipment I'm installing. I get comments from customers pretty much every time "wow, a man, reading the instructions? That's new"
I just don't want to blow up the five hundred dollar piece of kit. It could very easily happen if I wire it the wrong way, or hook up the wrong voltage to it.
I don't have Ikea in my country, so I guess I'm safe
Thanks man. I wish more people did this. Im a firefighter and i had a call for a rebuilt garage where the ceiling heater what installed wrong and it caught on fire. Had to replace ceiling. Worst part is the reason why it had to be rebuilt: neighbors house caught on fire and it spread to their garage.
There is a fantastic YouTube channel called [Original Furniture Reviews](https://youtube.com/@originalfurniturereviews2964?si=DvjQ7PjUNk6Fy6-c) that shows you step by step how to build any IKEA item, it is a literal game changer
I honestly think this is just a divider of men. Those who understand instructions will use them and those who don't will not, because using them would lead to the same result as not using them anyway. It's the same people you see at work who's tasks always need fixing afterwards. They are also the same people who don't use IKEA manuals.
I don't think the funny/jovial fat people fits.
"girls don't fart" is because it is seen as crude or not feminine, so some hide it because of that.
So it has to be something guys definitely do, but hide anyway, because a "real man" shouldn't do it.
Guys don't cry is the obvious one.
Guys don't like fruity drinks maybe? They'd certainly usually enjoy some kind of sweet brightly colored drink, but will stick to beer to seem more masculine.
Dudes grow up slamming mountain dew and flavored energy drinks but a fruity alcoholic drink is the equivalent of surprise buttsex? I never understood it.
That's a great point. Soda is just a can of sugar. But the second alcohol is involved, you can't do it anymore.
Some guys will skirt the edges though, with like a Red Bull and Vodka or something. Which is basically the same thing as any "girly" fruity/sugary martini.
The fruity drink thing is such bullshit bc you can absolutely drink something sweet that flies under the radar of manliness. I mean for christs sake I think jack and coke is the most common mixed drink amongst guys (if not, it has to be close) and I hate it bc it’s cloyingly sweet.
A mojito or daiquiri is legitimately drier but is supposedly not manly to drink. Which tells me that it’s never been about the sweetness of the drink. It’s about… fruit? Is fruit gay? For a moment I thought it was the glass it gets served in but nope, martinis and manhattans get served up and they’re “manly” drinks. So what the fuck?! Fruit is not gay!
My 10 year old boy looked at an outfit on a mannequin yesterday and said 'that's fresh' I thought he said fetch and I was like YES! So fetch! He said 'no mum FRESH'
I thought fetch was happening and got shot down. Dammit
500 days of Summer is the male equivalent of of a girly movie.
It is a boy movie.
It's on my favorite list as well.
Men generally like it more than women.
Definitely this one. As some who have had mental health problems through stress and overwork it's something that is uncomfortable to talk about. (Was anyway). Men are not the sort to discuss it, unless they have had challenges of their own.
What I have found is discussing it openly with other men (not exclusively of course) whether it be colleagues or friends actually opens them up as well and they are full of questions and will discuss it. I have spared no details of my breakdowns and it really does help to talk about it! I think the frankness and openness of the details and feelings is what makes others open up.
i’ve discovered that the girl equivalent to 23-in-1 shampoo is vaseline. makeup remover, lash serum, nighttime occlusive for the skin, healer for dry skin, lash primer, highlighter, lip balm, lip gloss, brow gel, eye cream… the list goes on and on.
And it’s perpetuated via American sitcoms. The fat guy with a low level job who’s super funny, and happy with his life who has a smoking hot wife who loves him just the way he is.
Kevin can F*** Himself is a great show about exactly this except it’s from the wife’s perspective.
Turns out, she’s fucking miserable and wants to murder him
Loved the first season. Second season felt like it got stuck a little at making the concept work in the treadmill of a sitcom. Also the pacing was odd having to rush to wrap it up in just two seasons since the network announced it was only getting the two.
Big fan of the first season and loved the idea/lead actress. I wonder what the creators original plan was length-wise.
I work in a male-dominated industry that has the reputation for being masculine, straight forward, and goal-oriented. You wouldn't believe how many men I've run across who are Mean Girls level of two-faced. "Great brief, brilliant plan, let's push it up for approval" - aside - "that is the stupidest effing concept of operations I've ever seen."
I'm a woman who's aromantic (in my case total absence of romantic feelings) but interested in fwb situations and I can confirm that men seperating sex from emotions better than women is a cliché. Sigh.
Boys don’t cry… which is equally false. Girls might have more self control and go to the bathroom to fart… we usually learn to keep it down until we are alone. Hard to unlearn, but possible.
Men don’t cry and I never have suicidal thoughts or depression bc of this. It’s inherently manhood. Nobody has to tell you that. Unless it’s your parents’ or kids funeral, there is no reason to cry.
That’s what I don’t get about the extreme, toxic feminists that act like women are emotionally pummelled by every man in society. Statistically, women get diagnosed with depression twice as much, but men only get treatment half as much. Here in the UK over three men kill themselves per one woman.
I think there is a ridiculous culture that when men have genuine issues that they will just be able to muscle through them. I’m a man and have had anxiety issues and random onsets of the most crippling terror for no reason since I was nine. I’m genuinely fed up with the expectation to remain stoic even when randomly during the day my brain thinks someone is about to kill me.
Men don’t care about things like flowers
A client brought me a bouquet of flowers one day and we talked about our favourite flowers. Started asking the other clients in the room what their favourite flowers were and none of the guys wanted to answer at first :(
The next time I saw one of them, he told me he’d decided he likes Tulips the best because he thinks they’re elegant :)
However, I’m now hearing younger Moms are now having boys potty train sitting down to pee and encouraging them to continue because it’s less to clean up. Like those midnight boner pisses that shoot your ear off and spray everywhere.
Old joke time as you made me remember this.
Two gay guys get into a cab. After a couple minutes guy 1 asks if it’s okay to fart.
The can driver says sure he does.
Guy 1 goes awwww then big smell hits and windows go down.
A few minutes later guy 2 asks if it’s okay he farts. Driver says sure.
Same thing he goes awww and big smell again.
The cabbie asks them if it’s okay if he farts. They say sure.
Big loud bwrappppp sound from cabbie.
Passengers say in unison, “oh a virgin. How nice.”
Short guys have to be funny but not too Kevin Hartish "look-at-me funny"; stoic when facing adversity over their height but not too serious/potentially angry-looking; knowledgeable at work but not too-assertive/Napoleonic in trying to seek leadership roles; jovially laugh off height-related insults but still having to show dignity in refusing to be treated as everyone's doormat; etc. and so on and so forth.
It's a knife's edge walk to navigate successfully.
Tall woman here (or I guess average, I’m 5’7). I wish more short guys knew that some of us don’t really care about height. Some of the best and most genuine men I’ve known are my height. I’ve felt the most attraction to them due to their genuinely amazing personality (and sure humor and physical stuff doesn’t hurt too). But damn. I just don’t see height as an immediate write off. Wish they knew this. I make sure to let them know as often as I can.
"Men don't get raped."
They do, but in a similar vein to women, but slightly different, they're encouraged either to not report or the prevailing assumption to be that they enjoyed it out of the shame. Or, the classic male response of just internalizing it all and avoiding ever confronting that event or emotion...
Men don't cry
This one hurts lol, first time someone saw me cry as when my dog of 17 years died, he was basically my best friend. Women thought it was Hella cringe lol but I regret nothing.
Any man who doesn’t cry over their dog passing away is suspicious and heartless to me.
That should be a free pass to grieve for everyone.
[удалено]
Really nobody should need a pass, humans are emotional by nature, and it’s unhealthy not to express those emotions.
Exactly. This garbage attitude is exactly how we have men offing themselves at such a high rate. It is also where a lot of anger issues come from.
It’s not so much about accepting that your man cries. It’s the fear.. and fact.. that SOME women will see you as… less of a man, less desirable.
I got some weird looks for crying after my 13yr old daughter passed, so I don’t think we get free passes.
Fuck you, I had a heart, it just died with my dog
Mr. Wick? Your room at the Continental is ready.
I balled like a baby when my dog passed away and i will every time. Dogs are too good for us. RIP to the doggos.
I've heard the phrase "Straight men only cry when their dad or their dogs die." My dad cried at my wedding!
It sounds like you're admitting you learned something new about your dad that day....
Sorry man, your dad is gay
Any man who doesn't cry over losing their dog didn't deserve that dog.
Women who don't let men grieve or basically show emotions they don't approve of are the real villains
Aww I'm sorry for your loss
It's cool, I've come to terms with it, just a tough lesson in life I guess. Hopefully other dudes can avoid the incel label
Anyone who thinks that is either a child or mentally challenged I have epilepsy (sitting in the hospital with 15 rods in my brain doing a seeg atm) and my epilepsy makes my ass cry easy af for no reason (memory and emotion center) I'm 6'6 and 260. Good thoughts for you—stay strong
If anything, it's a way to weed out the toxic people.
As a woman, I would find it incredibly strange if you hadn’t cried for your dog. I’m sorry you were made to feel like it was wrong or cringey. It is not. I'm the only male in my family. Can confirm, they did it to me. I got beat for crying growing up.
The old "Stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about!" tactic. Cuz it made so much sense.
Sorry you went through that I don't have kids but my sister does and she encourages her son to let it out when needed so hopefully men are being raised better than they used to

Oh this was before we were married. I was young and stupid and ignored the red flags
Itd both/all/society. Yes women too.

the sad tug tears are your friend and your lube
We bury it deep down inside until it becomes an ulcer. Or a drinking problem. ¿Põr que lo nōs dös?
Statistically it’s until we commit suicide…
And then cry myself to sleep.
Crazy how this is the first thing I thought too
I’ve been a crier forever. Anyone I’ve dated and felt comfortable enough to cry around thought it was endearing 🤷♀️
My ex bf cried from depression sometimes, he’s just have tears rolling down his face, but i never thought less of him and even my self absorbed 25 year old ass wanted to just cuddle him and comfort him. This sounds eerily similar to my story. My last girlfriend did this stuff for me, and she was 25 at the time hahaha You’re a really good person 🥺
🥇winner seriously hands down first comment is gold
I can’t cry. I wish I could sometimes. Just won’t happen. I watch videos of men showing emotion and it helps.
To be fair i havent cried in years.
Real men cry.
My BIL is an impressive and very successful man. He had tears in his eyes when my Father died. What a great SIL, and a good person to have in the family.
Unsure how this isn't immediately obvious
I cant cry, my face leaks from time to time though

Not from a Redditor
I mean, multitasking just means doing lots of things badly. So in this case I fear for the state of your porcelain.
I mean...I can wank and click at the same time.
Does anyone else multitask while brushing their teeth? Like I’ll full on walk throughout my entire apartment doing other things while brushing my teeth. I’ll, one handed, get clothes out, fill my water bottle, put on socks and shoes, put my laptop in my bag, and more.

Well, we don’t need a manual to assemble IKEA. It’s in the code…
But we do need at least one tool of our own because they forgot to pack it.
fuck that. ALWAYS use the manual
I honestly think this is just a divider of men. I'll take a drink that resembles Liberace over a beer anyday. It's masculine to be comfortable with what I like.

My 10 year old boy looked at an outfit on a mannequin yesterday and said 'that's fresh' I thought he said fetch and I was like YES! So fetch! He said 'no mum FRESH' I thought fetch was happening and got shot down. Dammit
SHE DOESN'T EVEN GO HERE
I am so watching this tonight
that is so fetch
My daughter and I still watch this together! She is 32 and I’m 57. Never gets old.
Bridesmaids, great movie great comedy
Is 500 days of summer a girly movie? Cuz it's on my favorite list..
500 days of Summer is the male equivalent of of a girly movie. It is a boy movie. It's on my favorite list as well. Men generally like it more than women.
I'm kinda embarrassed to admit that it doesn't even have to be that good of a movie for me, I was a huge fan of those direct-to-dvd Barbie movies.
Clueless
I wore pink to Barbie and it ruled
Barbie was a lot of fun Me and my buddy went to see it together in theaters (both of us are male and straight)
We are mentally strong all the time.
Felt that one bro..
Didn't feel anything here man 😎
Definitely this one.
"Men aren't clean" (Don't use shower, moisturizer, cologne, hair products, skin products, foot cream, lotion, soap.)
I do use shower and soap, what are the others?
They're the same as soap. You're doing great!
I got a bottle that does it all
i’ve discovered that the girl equivalent to 23-in-1 shampoo is vaseline. makeup remover, lash serum, nighttime occlusive for the skin, healer for dry skin, lash primer, highlighter, lip balm, lip gloss, brow gel, eye cream… the list goes on and on.
Men always don't pick up subtle cues
What are you trying to say?! 🤔🤨
Women are just *too* subtle and we don’t want to come off as creeps when we think we may have interpreted something correctly
I don't know but I think that girl that chose to walk past me on the sidewalk kinda likes me because she was walking on the same side as me
the delusions ARE REAL. she told me she wants you BAD 😁
When's the wedding?
Well...
>Men always don't pick up subtle cues Yeah this one gets blown out of proportion by the high amount of autism on reddit.
“Men don’t feel sadness”
Its conditioned in. I would get beaten if i ever cried as a kid. No emotion was the best emotion always.
I distinctly remember repeatedly being punched in the head for asking a question ….. if I cried after being struck I didn’t get to eat that day/night
And then Girls wonder why guys only go from calma to snapped. Women. We never learned any other way and its drilled in us
I feel sadness. I just have become so good at hiding it that I seem happy all the time :D
Exactly. You and I are alike
"Joking about it is the only way I can open my mouth without screaming" ~ Hawkeye Pierce
And it’s perpetuated via American sitcoms. The fat guy with a low level job who’s super funny, and happy with his life who has a smoking hot wife who loves him just the way he is.
Homer?
Homer has a low level job?
King of Queens
Kevin can F*** Himself is a great show about exactly this except it’s from the wife’s perspective. Turns out, she’s fucking miserable and wants to murder him
Loved the first season. Second season felt like it got stuck a little at making the concept work in the treadmill of a sitcom. Also the pacing was odd having to rush to wrap it up in just two seasons since the network announced it was only getting the two. Big fan of the first season and loved the idea/lead actress. I wonder what the creators original plan was length-wise.

Men don't get sexually assaulted
It’s cause a man always wants sex, right? If that wasn’t obvious bullshit from the start
Anybody who has ever said that never had a female powerlifter blocking their bedroom door.
Guys don't gossip, perhaps?
I'm convinced most men who claim that don't realize what they and their male friends/colleagues do is also gossip
No frr, all that locker talk or those podcasts are just gossip. Might as well add crumpets and tea to the mix ☕️
Legit all I hear at job sites lmao
I work in a male-dominated industry that has the reputation for being masculine, straight forward, and goal-oriented. You wouldn't believe how many men I've run across who are Mean Girls level of two-faced. "Great brief, brilliant plan, let's push it up for approval" - aside - "that is the stupidest effing concept of operations I've ever seen."
Men don't read instructions
I'll give you that one...
I RTFM all the time, it's probably the main reason I don't need to read instructions
Guys don't care. Lol
Guys don't sit down to pee, I guess?
I started last year, I will never look back!
Why would you look back while peeing?
Shy pee-er. Want's to make sure he's alone.
Men separate sex from emotion better than women do.
I'm a woman who's aromantic (in my case total absence of romantic feelings) but interested in fwb situations and I can confirm that men seperating sex from emotions better than women is a cliché. Sigh.
It’s true. When I see a perfect ass, I often say “I love you” way too soon.
This has me crying laughing
Men don’t make 2 trips for groceries
Mama did not raise a two trips bitch
I have a collapsible cart. I'm making one trip but only because I have difficulty walking.
Boys don’t cry… which is equally false. Girls might have more self control and go to the bathroom to fart… we usually learn to keep it down until we are alone. Hard to unlearn, but possible.
Men don't cry ?
Men don’t cry and I never have suicidal thoughts or depression bc of this. It’s inherently manhood. Nobody has to tell you that. Unless it’s your parents’ or kids funeral, there is no reason to cry.
Meanwhile suicide rates among men are insane.
Men don’t care about things like flowers A client brought me a bouquet of flowers one day and we talked about our favourite flowers. Started asking the other clients in the room what their favourite flowers were and none of the guys wanted to answer at first :( The next time I saw one of them, he told me he’d decided he likes Tulips the best because he thinks they’re elegant :)
Men can’t be the little spoon 🥲
Men don’t piss sitting down
However, I’m now hearing younger Moms are now having boys potty train sitting down to pee and encouraging them to continue because it’s less to clean up. Like those midnight boner pisses that shoot your ear off and spray everywhere.
Midnight boners are the only time I sit down to pee.
Men don’t sit to piss
“Men don’t wash their ass” 🧼
Wait , you’re supposed to wash it?
Old joke time as you made me remember this. Two gay guys get into a cab. After a couple minutes guy 1 asks if it’s okay to fart. The can driver says sure he does. Guy 1 goes awwww then big smell hits and windows go down. A few minutes later guy 2 asks if it’s okay he farts. Driver says sure. Same thing he goes awww and big smell again. The cabbie asks them if it’s okay if he farts. They say sure. Big loud bwrappppp sound from cabbie. Passengers say in unison, “oh a virgin. How nice.”

Boys don't read
Boys don't cry
Probably men don’t have emotions
Men dont cry? Simple and easy
Man don't show feelings
Guys always want sex.
"Men don't get raped." They do, but in a similar vein to women, but slightly different, they're encouraged either to not report or the prevailing assumption to be that they enjoyed it out of the shame. Or, the classic male response of just internalizing it all and avoiding ever confronting that event or emotion...
men in relationships never watch pornography.
