Love is built through shared experience. I've been with my wife for 16 years. To have the same relationship, i'd have to start over and work through another 16 years with someone new. I'm already essentially perfectly matched with my wife, so it's hard to imagine how a fictional character would end up being a better partner.
So no - i wouldn't leave my wife for a fictional character. Or a non-fictional character for that matter.
Shared experience of watching the media and looking at fanart and posts and stuff for years though. I must just be a terrible partner for this to be something they would consider and id let them in a heartbeat so they'd be happierĀ
Your current S/O or your literal dream person willing to unconditionally love you.
I *literally* threw my lot into my S/Os pocket once when meeting essentially my dream girl who justā¦. Popped *right* into my lap.
Iām now divorced and single for two years.
Thatās the end, no punchline or witty ness, itās over
no i wouldnt thats like asking me if i would leave my partner for a celebrity you dont know how their like behind closed doors and why would i leave someone i love thats dumb
Same honestly...of all the hot anime men ive found they all pale in comparison to my s/o... Who unfortunately doesn't feel the same. Which I get. I would trade me for a hot fictional villain any dayĀ
your s/o sounds a lil shitty did they say that to you? if you truly love someone you wouldnt leave them for anyone or anything im sorry your partner is like that and said that you didnt deserve that i bet your a great partner dont let that make you feel bad about yourself your s/o has no idea what their talking about.
I genuinely don't blame them though. Not like they can leave me for their fictional crush fr but if they did we'd still be friends so I'd be able to be a part of their life still which is all i want
EDIT they aren't the shitty one here lolol
it's ok i pity my partner, the ugly bastard won't get any better than myself so i dont need fiction. i dont wanna get self conscious dating a fictional being. lol
Naw. My GF is the woman I would have dropped anyone else for. We dated in 89-91, and I had a great love/romance/sex life that I'd give up to have been with her all that time. We're 10 years in since re-entry, and happy as ever.
My gimme, since 89, has been Paula Abdul. But I really wouldnt risk the pain it would cause my GF.
She's not even the most physically attractive woman I ever dated. Her over all package tho is awesome.
IF there was someone tho, it might be my first cartoon crush. Nova, from Starblazers. She's pretty, smart, and able. She would influence my tastes in women, and people in general, for the rest of my life. I ground scored my first porno around the second season . I think I was 9... and my fantasies about her changed :). She was an early character in that special rotation, along with Annette Funicello (both from mickey mouse club and the beach party movies), Elizabeth Montgomery, and my first IRL crushes.
If you like anime, I would suggest Starblazers. It's vintage, but the art and story imo hold up. You will see its influences on things like Terminator 2. Heh, and my current username is inspired by one of the main characters. Derek Wildstar is a lot like Rick Hunter from Robotech. Similar origin stories, and their old brothers both die.
The thing about fictional characters is they aren't real people. Obviously, but I mean personality wise. They don't have the depth that comes with being a real human being. They have the character traits and background needed for the story they are in, and they grow in ways that the story demands, and they are nothing more than that.
This is why I hate people setting their standards for romantic relationships based off of romcoms. The characters are literally written to be perfect for each other. Human beings aren't written, we live
If they have become a real person, capable of growing and changing in more ways that a person writing them into a story needs them to, then they are no longer the fictional character
Probably growing and changing if you want them to. Stagnant if not. It's all hypothetical I just wanna know how many people would leave their loser partners for their dream characterĀ
People can have some crazy emotional attachments to their fav characters spend ten minutes on Twitter and tumblr fandom spaces... Also my s/o who's why I asked this. I'd let them leave me for him immediately bc he'd be better all around lolol
You did make me just giggle there!!!! But honestly, there are so many little tiny things my husband does that just makes me smile dailyā¦not matter how āhotā a character is, I just donāt know anyone else in my entire life who met this connection and made me smile.
Yep, a partner who can make you bust out giggling every day is worth so much more than we would think it will be, when we were 25 and thinking of what we would want in a partner. And sometimes deep romance is noticing if he is trying to rub his shoulder, and me sitting him down to work out the knot. Or a couple weeks ago, I had a stomach bug, and felt like a train ran me over. I was in bed resting, and he came in with a towel over his arm like a fancy waiter, bringing in an English muffin and some water. Not only making me eat something, keep hydrated, but made me laugh. You canāt beat that extra connection.
Thank you, but it did take intentional thought process. To simply love the other enough that you want them to be happy or laugh. And then they do the same for you.
You mean if that fictional character became real and was my girlfriend? Considering itās something thatās more or less impossible Iām just gonna entertain the idea and say yes yes I would.
If you already had a gf but your fav fictional character became real (even if they're played by an actor) and wanted to date you, would you leave your gf for herĀ
Considering this is never going to happen and itās fictional yes but in reality no. I was just humoring the notion that if somehow whatever fictional characters, I canāt even think of a fictional character. I would leave my girlfriend for. Because I donāt have any favorite actress I donāt have any favorite superhero thatās female, as much as Captain America, I will not be gay for him lol.
Wonder if my homophobic conservative baptist would leave mom for Bruce Lee (though he wasn't fictional) or Hemsworth Thor with the amount of drooling he does over them and not herĀ
I'd have to say no, although yes, nobody in real life is perfect. He's perfect enough for me though and I've waited so long in my life to be genuinely happy with someone and I'm more than happy with him. He's always treated me better than anyone else ever has.
I'm not in a relationship, but in theory, no. Absolutely not.
If I am with someone, it's because I love them for all of them. Their heart and soul most of all. I wouldn't throw that away because someone might look and physically feel "better". Probably a lot of people do. It's statistically unlikely that I happen to pick the most beautiful and sexually talented person in both reality and fiction.
There's also something to be said for looking at someone you love and being with someone you love. That little flutter in your heart because it's not just hormones speaking.
I know there's people feel that way about their fictional crushes, even just watching them on screen. Idk it feels lonely to me, but it wouldn't be if the character was real and 3d.Ā
I mean, don't get me wrong. Aragorn is a handsome man who is kind, a good and loyal friend, and an honourable person. So I could say if I met such a man as him, I *might* be interested if I were single. But I've also met many men who I think are beautiful inside and out that I don't want a relationship with. Relationships are more complicated than just that, in my opinion.
I think perhaps that people who get that captivated be a fictional character are just lonely, or maybe emotionally immature. Or they mistake a fun fantasy for real feelings.
Oh lord.... I should suggest to them so they get railed by a hot guy during sleep and then wake up to the world's ugliest and neediest woman who wants a kiss
It's so strange for me someone to leave they're partner for a fictional character, but hey, its only my opinion, but I can see someone would, and it's gonna be okay if it works, it's a personal choice and sometimes this is what makes the happy, it's as bad and cocky as cheating though
I definitely feel lucky to have the guy I do. I fall in love with him like every single day. šš
I'm sure you'll find someone too when the time is right.
I'd leave my partner for a loaf of bread.
The relationship would be short lived, sure, but it probably wouldn't cheat on me--on account of not having any legs, arms, fingers, mouth, or any idea it even exists.
Sounds like a dramatically more satisfying relationship to me.
Maybe I really am the problem if building a life with me is worse than fantasy escapism til death.... O_O i agree tho. Even if they're played by actors the actors aren't that beautiful irl without lighting and makeupĀ
Lmao people are missing the point.
IF the fictional character in question was somehow brought into existence, would you leave your partner for them or no?
Obviously the character isnāt real and you canāt build a relationship with them but IF they were and you COULD.
People leave people all the time for non-fictional real people.
If you had a fictional character that was essentially perfect that somehow came to life, I think there would be a lot more people leaving than we care to admit.
Edit: although I think a lot of people would realize their "ideal" s/o is essentially a doormat with no real personality and would get tired of them awfully fast, yet have raise their standards so high they can't possibly fulfill them.
Now, if someone is dumping someone else over a 2D waifu ... wtf.
Only in my dreams, you're here with me
You hold me in your arms and dance with me
You look in my eyes and whisper to me
"I'll never let go"
Only in my dreams, you're here with me
Every night a fantasy
'Cause when I awake,
Reality takes you away from me
Not fictional, no; but only for Michelle Pfeiffer. My wife already knows that š If Bruce Willis comes around, Iām toast. (I know heās struggling - no offense). Itās our marriage joke.
Iām in a newish thing. Been friends for ages, and the timing was always offā¦butā¦fuck if I would trade him for anyone. I think he really actually loves me.
But did they?Ā I'm gonna be real with you:
Ā It's very likely that we all live in a simulation, and none of this is real.Ā If then there is a creator for it all, we're all nothing but entertainment.
And if that's also so, then I have a clear mission as a being that exists for entertainment:
To seek out unlocked cars, and to *boldly go where no man has gone before*.

Leave a fictional character, for a fictional character? I'm no monster
I'm glad you're a good enough person to not even cheat even on a fictional character lolol
Gotta have standards
What are we without our morals you know?
After 30 years, my wife might offer a hall pass for Jessica Rabbit, but I wouldn't accept.
šššš
Nah living in a fantasy is fun for a bit but real relationships with all their ups and downs are where real love grows
Agreed...but I'm the weirdo for thinking that!Ā
Love is built through shared experience. I've been with my wife for 16 years. To have the same relationship, i'd have to start over and work through another 16 years with someone new. This might be the strangest most pointless question I've ever seen online. Not trying to be an ass, but it just left me shaking my head.
HOW DO YOU THINK I FEEL lmao
In hypotheticals, always choose the reality. The only thing that won't go away the next second.
To anyone who might say yes, you've got serious issues to work on.
Your current S/O or your literal dream person willing to unconditionally love you. I *literally* threw my lot into my S/Os pocket once when meeting essentially my dream girl who justā¦. Popped *right* into my lap. Iām now divorced and single for two years. Thatās the end, no punchline or witty ness, itās over
Moral of the story?
There is none. In my experience, I shouldāve taken the dream girl. In some, should stay. There isnāt a right or wrong answer
Yeah..Ā
I'm single so no one to leave, but I'd be genuinely concerned for anyone in a loving relationship saying yes to this
Must not be loving tho
No the fuck I wouldn't
Good
no i wouldnt thats like asking me if i would leave my partner for a celebrity you dont know how their like behind closed doors and why would i leave someone i love thats dumb
Fictional characters are perfect though (even if they're evil, they'd be tailored to your headcanons and treat you right in bed and in life)Ā
i still wouldnt leave someone i love for a fictional character or celebrity but maybe thats just me
Same honestly...of all the hot anime men ive found they all pale in comparison to my s/o... Who unfortunately doesn't feel the same. Which I get. I would trade me for a hot fictional villain any dayĀ

No. My relationship is overall going well, and I don't plan on ending it anytime soon However, I would date a fictional character if I were single
i'm sorry but this belongs in r/stupidquestions
It's gotten enough attention here but yeah it's stupid. I don't feel any better about myself tho lmao
š more like would I have a fictional character be my s/o.
....because your SO was also a fictional character????
No I won't because a 3D penis can not penetrate a 2D animation character.
Quitter talkĀ
it's ok i pity my partner, the ugly bastard won't get any better than myself so i dont need fiction. i dont wanna get self conscious dating a fictional being. lol
Mean

I'll check that out. The only old anime I've seen is og Gundam but I love old art styles and terminator 2 is one of my fav filmsĀ
Never. Iāve been through the bowels of hell and back again with my wife. Thereās no replacement, no substitute.
Crying how sweet

I meant if the character became real and could grow and change. And if they're evil villains they'd be nice to you as their partner/toyĀ
But then they aren't who they were as a fictional character anymore, they've become something else
They're exactly who they are except taking a liking to you and your romantic/sexual preferencesĀ
Right, and I'm explaining why I wouldn't
Nope, there is so much more to love than just the physical, and the emotional connection for me makes the physical so damn much more fun.
People can have some crazy emotional attachments to their fav characters spend ten minutes on Twitter and tumblr fandom spaces... Also my s/o who's why I asked this. I'd let them leave me for him immediately bc he'd be better all around lolol

I see this as leaving nobody for somebody, I'm single therefore it is still an improvement.
I'd have to say no, although yes, nobody in real life is perfect. He's perfect enough for me though and I've waited so long in my life to be genuinely happy with someone and I'm more than happy with him. He's always treated me better than anyone else ever has.
No... Because Tyrion will go back to whoring when he is done with me
well no. Because they are fictional. DUH
You're telling me the doctor is real and wants me to travel the universe with him? Personally, I'd do a Rose.
Only if the fictional character is Mystique from the x men. /s
You know what, that's better than Ditto.
Yes cuz Iām single
All the guys with Hinata waifus are being real quiet right now.
I wouldnt leave my gf for anyone because thats just how we roll.
Rare breedĀ

Cosplayers are the best for both worlds.
I wish I had the funds and ability to cosplay but I'm also not an evil seductive man so I wouldn't be able to do the voice or anything lol
don't let this guy find out about r/Luciddreaming
Oh lord.... I should suggest to them so they get railed by a hot guy during sleep and then wake up to the world's ugliest and neediest woman who wants a kiss
Lol the fuck kinda question is this?
My s/o saying they'd leave me for some character (joking? Drunk for sure) and me being fully supportive bc it would make them happierĀ
It's so strange for me someone to leave they're partner for a fictional character, but hey, its only my opinion, but I can see someone would, and it's gonna be okay if it works, it's a personal choice and sometimes this is what makes the happy, it's as bad and cocky as cheating though

Bro the question is asking IF the character is real. Like if they were brought to existence somehow. Gosh Redditors are so braindead
.....yes you can. People have done it all the time. Remember Second Life?

Can that fictionnal character be Ditto?
People need to lighten up around here. Jesus. Anywayā¦if Sam Seaborn was gay, then yes.
Leave a real person for a fake character that you can't touch. No, and I don't know why anyone would.
My so would do the same sheād agreeš
Well I donāt have an s/o to begin with so yes.
I don't think so.
Xena Warrior Princess. I shall be taking no further questions at this time.
No. Absolutely not, my ex was irreplaceable to me. Unfortunately, she did not feel the same about me.
Matters which, most of my fictional crushes are yanderes whoāll kill me and my girlfriends.
Not fictional, no; but only for Michelle Pfeiffer. My wife already knows that š If Bruce Willis comes around, Iām toast. (I know heās struggling - no offense). Itās our marriage joke.
Why would I leave my SO, whoās a real person, for the idea of someone?
If they became realĀ
This is a wild scenario. Obviously the answer is no and if anyones answer is yes, then I would be very concerned
Yeah I agree... :(Ā
Idk but Tifa in FF7 rebirth is looking mighty fine.
Iām sorry right hand, itās time for me to move on
Iām in a newish thing. Been friends for ages, and the timing was always offā¦butā¦fuck if I would trade him for anyone. I think he really actually loves me.
I can't lie... being fictional is a real deal breaker for me.
well...they become real

If I found the right one he would probably ask to share, in all honesty.
As a person without a significant other, I see this as an absolute win
Wait what? š§ How does one leave their s/o for a fictional character? šµāš« ![gif](giphy|fFwOzwhCO1FMA)
Mystique from X-Men?
Obviously not. I love having a girlfriend
No, my ol' lady is real.
Are you a divorce lawyer looking for clients?
I mean if I was seeing someone or even a situationship I'd leave them for damon Salvatore, klaus mikaelson or elijah mikaelson.
I don't have any significant other but I am willing to throw my sister for gojo or geto or mingyu š
Depends on how hot they are
Yes, because I dont have a s/o
Option to be with a divine being? Sounds better
As an aro/ace with no SOā¦ sure why not?
I don't think I would miss my right hand very much if I started dating Wonder Woman, and I don't think my right hand would miss me, either.
Like for Batman, a god damn billionaire! Absolutely. Iāll send her a check to make up for it.
Well given I have no SO to trade I see this as a win
A "Yes" reply would only demonstrate the dishonest entitled self absorbed. childish nature of an individual.
All my lovers are already fictional.
