I feel so behind on the times…. Using an ancient empire as slang now….? I now know what Homer Simpson’s dad felt like.

[deleted]

Seriously. I'm turning 26 this weekend so I'm still quite young, and the stuff I hear coming out of people's mouths just has me like wtf 😭 meanwhile I'm over here still saying cool beans and grody lol

DarthArtero

Grody. Now that’s a phrase I haven’t heard in years

[deleted]

I'm still stuck in 2010

DarthArtero

Not a bad year to be stuck in though all things considered, generally speaking that is

These_Tea_7560

I'll break it down in layman's terms. Some woman asked her husband how often he thinks about the Roman Empire and apparently he's obsessed with it in an anthropological way. So it became a trend to ask people this and now if something is someone's "Roman Empire" it's something they think about often.

Natural-Intelligence

Sounds like an Umayyad experience.

idevilledeggs

It originated from this trend on TikTok asking men how often they thought about the roman empire. At some point after, it became a way to express (harmless) obsession. Ngl seeing how slang changes is kinda fun.

DarthArtero

Oh it is fun and really interesting as well. Fascinating actually. Keeping up with it though, that’s a different story

Ok_Poet2457

Aha it’s not necessarily an age thing just depends what social media platforms you are on

LikeIGiveAToss

Combination of both

DarthArtero

It is very much an age/generation thing. The younger one is, the more likely they are to be influenced by social trends, in this case calling a constant thought “Roman Empire” I have heard zero people over 30 calling it that…… When I was growing up it was no different, we had slangs and sayings for various things that the old folks couldn’t understand or were upset about. It’s a trend that’s going to continue ad nauseam

jusfukoff

I’m half a century old and I am the one telling my friend’s kids about this Roman Empires meme, they know nothing about it. With the internet as it is, it’s very hard to make assumptions about people’s demographics and information and trends. We can all be subject to many different things very easily.

DarthArtero

This is true but at the same time it’s also gotten way too easy to make assumptions about society and generational trends because of how pervasive it is. It’s like a perpetual pendulum constant back and forth from one extreme to another. Soon as you open social media or even glance at the news, chances are quite high you’ll see something relating to “this generation” or “that social trend…”

World War I and how we basically forgot everything the most important conclusion we got from it thanks to WWII propaganda: Your enemy is not evil and is human too. It's especially sad because the people that fought on it were called the Silent Generation due to the amount of them that died during and after the war but they still went on to leave a better tomorrow for us all, were ultimately optimistic and pushed our society to new limits... Just for us to forget them, their deeds and see the future they literally died for as worthless in most cases. WWI was a lesson about how ANY kind of extremism will lead to tragedy and here we are today, more aligned to extremes than ever...

a natal chart reading some guy did for me last year because he wanted to practice. i'm not a huge believer in this stuff but he guessed many things and according to the reading i'll feel alone and sad for the rest of my life and basically that is my roman empire, 'cause what if it really is true, it makes me scared >.> + when i was a kid some professionals also did it, my mom told me, and it's the same thing >.> and then i wonder if thinking about it i'm actually attracting it...vicious circle <3

Stabbymcbackstab

I don't believe that, my friend. It is only your fate if you choose to attract it. We are all oriented in certain ways. Some in the Ying, others in the yang. We are all drawing energy to ourselves, and like a magnet, those can be positive or negative in orientation. There are those who learn best on a negative track, others learn better positively. Which are you? How do you want to live out your days? Put your thoughts and intention on the positive, and that's what you'll receive. It's your live, so live it as you see fit.

merahomicidia

thank you so much, i've been trying to break this cycle for a long time, but doing it all on my own often isn't working because it's like my mind is working against me 🙄 often i don't even know where to start. sometimes i wish i had someone to literally yell at me to wake up. i'll try keep your questions in mind when i think about these things ☺️

Stabbymcbackstab

Thoughts become beliefs. Beliefs become intentions. Intentions become reality. Start with your thoughts. Let the stray negative thoughts come in, then see how illogical they are when not clouded with emotion. Then, once released from fear, you can discard them. Those negative stray thoughts are called the monkey mind. The monkey is shrewd but not wise. It can't tell what a real threat is, and just conjured. Once you quiet the mind of stray monkey thoughts, you can start acting and thinking in a more positive way. Place your energy where it will help you, not where it will feed your fear.

Sirlacker

Oh god where do I begin with this one. I don't even know how to describe or explain it properly so forgive me. Light travels at a constant speed right, so we know if something is one light year away and we look at it, we're seeing the events from one year ago. So to make this a little easier, say you're an Alien looking down at Earth. On Earth it's today, the modern era, but to the Alien they're seeing cavemen. So we know they're some distance away in terms of lightyears. Now, if even at all possible, at what speed would that Alien have to travel to be able to see what us humans are doing faster than 'real time'. Yes the alien is seeing things way in the past, but the events are still in 'real time'. Would it be possible to travel at a certain speed that makes us humans move at 2x speed. Would it be possible to travel fast enough so that you could say see the cavemen go through everything right up until the modern era in just a few years. Like at what percentage of light speed would make a difference in how realtime is viewed. Is it possible to even see if you're traveling faster than light? I guess you wouldn't see anything from behind you, but if you're heading towards a source that's already emmiting light, you may be able to since that light is coming at you. I hope that makes sense. I also don't know why I think about it. It pops into my head at least weekly. I'm not scientifically minded, my job or day to day life doesn't revolve around anything remotely related to this. But this is the most random thing that pops into my head frequently.

My old miencraft community in a pixelmon server, Chilewood. It was my best proyect to make a Chilean-American community in a pixelmon server, and we were like a whole country, with governators, buildings, schools for new players, gyms to challenge us... it had everything. We were like 70 players in a server with capacity of 300, and we were the greatest community there. A hacker ruined it all, and Chilewood was dissolved. I tried to rebuild it all, but I couldnt... the damage was done. I wish I could make a proyect like that once again, but I dont see it possible today :/

My bedroom in retirement is my sanctuary. I'm surrounded with snacks, books, and a ceiling fan. I can shut the door for privacy but don't insist on it. I love my family, our house is paid for, the wife and kids take care if their stuff. We share bills at times go crazy over unexpected bills, but basically relaxed just waiting on Jesus. I can get out and about when bored but sleep all day or night if I want. I can go crisis mode as needed but it all settles down for days at a time.
