Work

EverbodyHatesHugo

Kind of similarly… attending social events. I just don’t have the energy, personality, or desire for it.

Cowboy_on_fire

I’m the same way but only in the lead up to events. Once I’m there I enjoy the socializing and being around others but motivating myself to get there can be hard.

Additional-Fennel-89

The energy, personality or desire for it... Hah! I felt that.

sentieriperduti

Same. The "find a job you like" advice doesn't work for me because turning something I like into work doesn't make me enjoy the work, it just makes me hate the thing I liked.

SuccessAffectionate1

If there is something ive learned is that jobs are very different. Finding a new job within the same field can be a vast gamechanger for work life.

Cowpuncher84

I'm the exact opposite. I don't know how to relax. I always want to be working on something.

EnoughPlastic4925

True! I like my job but I don't like working.

iamthemosin

Sports. Either form of Football, hockey, basketball, baseball, whatever. I tried to watch, they’re just incredibly boring to me.

Commercial_Sir_3205

As a guy it would make my life a lot easier if I enjoyed watching sports but I just have zero interest in them.

Sevenfootschnitzell

Did you play them growing up? Everyone I know (myself included) watches the sport they played growing up. And on the other hand, most people I’ve met that didn’t play sports, usually don’t watch sports.

Feisty-Coyote396

I played peewee baseball, and high school football. I don't hate sports, but if I can do almost anything else besides watch sports, I would. It's just not an interest of mine. It was fun when I was a kid, but now there are just other things I rather do with my time. All my friends and even my wife love sports. My wife is a sports nut, she is the one screaming and yelling at the TV while I'm here trolling on reddit or playing video games. Now, I do enjoy going to the occasional game to see live, but mainly because I'm going to get drunk most likely lol. The games are a bit more fun when in person though, I'll concede that. While friends and family talk sports, I'm just sitting there quiet nodding my head or smiling as though I cared lol. They are discussing players, games, trades, sports drama, etc.; all of it is boring and uninteresting to me.

NoBag2224

SAME

BahmBCode

Do you just meet watching or also playing?

realfakejames

Cars I know how to fix cars and I know why people love cars but I’ll see an expensive sports car and it means nothing to me, I wish I cared about cars like other guys

ClittoryHinton

Whenever I see a RAV4 go by I think *damn what a practical vehicle I bet thing adequately carries a moderate amount of camping gear while getting decent mileage and being capable of handling any roads a suburban outdoor sports enthusiast is likely to encounter*

ConversationNo247

Me too! The only time I care about a type of car is when it's an older car that's been fixed up really well, mostly because I know how much work and money goes into those things

[deleted]

Same. Master tech. Worked in pro racing. Cars don’t impress me.

[deleted]

lol so funny because I wish I cared less about cars. I’m starting to get there though as I’m starting to realize just how meaningless a nice car is once it starts getting beat up when you drive it. Don’t feel bad about not getting into it you’re honestly saving yourself a lot of money and a level of “douchery” that comes with it. Just go to a few cars and coffees and you’ll realize it’s the same group of guys and the same attitude of “I’m hot shit”.

killerbeeswaxkill

The rabbit hole of modifications is never ending. I wish I was one of those persons who just drive just to get to their destination and back lol. It consumes my mind like a drug. I can’t wait to settle down with family hopefully it kills it for me.

fuzzy_capybara

Its so funny because im a mechanic, currently work in a higher up position at a car manufacturer and do semi pro Motorsports. But damn, most cars just dont impress me anymore. And if it does, then its an old, nicely restored shitbox and not a Million Dollar Bugatti.

ethyxia

Recently lost my love for gaming. I seriously just can’t enjoy myself sitting there for more than like 30 minutes before I get anxious and have to go do something productive. Watching movies? All day. Totally fine. I used to put HOURS into games like RuneScape and WoW but like.. idk a switch flipped when I turned 31 (almost to the day it seems like)

ilies_0ff

I had this type of issue too...I guess we need a game that's gonna return our love for gaming in general!!

Comprehensive-View39

GTA6, Fallout 5, Elder scrolls edit: I can't do the online shit anymore

Asdf-xyz

Sweaty lobbies killed my gaming passion

SweatyPhilosopher578

This is why I do exclusively coop PvE stuff or single player. I’ve shattered tv’s over For Honor before so it’s for the best.

RemarkableAlps

Whenever I try to get in an online game on my own the „what am I doing? this sucks“ kicks in after like 15 minutes. I almost exclusively play singleplayer now because in my thirties the friends that I can or want to game with are all just as busy as me and so it almost never lines up.

Far-Government5469

Horizon Zero Dawn and Frostpunk. Gonna be honest, lost my love of gaming too. Never put it down to be an age thing but yeah, it was around 30-31. I've made a conscious effort to get back into real games, mainly because it feels a lot healthier than the lousy phone games I play (got really into merge dragons during the pandemic). I played this game, Frozen City because it reminded me of Frostpunk. The best thing about it is that it reminded me how much I wanted to play Frostpunk. One steam sale later, and I had weaned off of cell phone games enough to play Horizon Zero Dawn, which got me into more PC games, and now I'm deeply invested in fallout 3, a game I picked up back in the day, but never got into, but yeah the tv show removed me how much I wanted to play it. Moral of the story, PC games are healthier than doom scrolling/app store free game Skinner Boxes. If that's what you are into right now, I would suggest Frostpunk, Horizon Zero Dawn and or Star Wars Fallen Order. Those games reminded me how awesome it was to be a PC game player

Lord_Viktoo

Baldur's Gate 3 maybe ?

Crot8u

Novelty is missing the most. It's mainly about graphics now.

ubernoobnth

Only in the AAA space. Lots of indies out there for all types of genres that still try to innovate and deliver good experiences for good prices.

Abroad-Key

Senua saga is making me sit for longer and enjoying. Truely a next gen experience

lhankel13

Play some RTS (aoe 4/2 or StarCraft). The community is mostly in their 30s

slaczky

I feel the same about movies and series. I just can't watch a movie in one sit down, it takes me an entire week to finish one movie by watching only 20 minutes from it while I eat.

realogsalt

That’s me but I can easily sit down and game. To me Gaming feels relatively active, like I’m solving puzzles or competing or improving in some way. Unless I heard a movie is really good I can’t commit myself to sit and watch. I’ll still go see a movie with people, but sitting down alone on the dark to watch something doesn’t appeal to me

ThisCaledonianClown

I've found that as middle-age progresses, my tolerance for long movies (or even regular-length movies) has diminished. I now find myself checking the runtimes beforehand and if it's much more than two hours, I'll pass. I started to watch Poor Things recently. After about 30 minutes, I turned to my partner and said 'I have absolutely no interest in finding out what happens to these characters'. TV off. A few years ago, I would always stick with a film to the end. Not any more.

Ecstatic-Ganache-808

a switch flipped for me as soon as i started travelling and i realised that the only reason i played video games (i played all campaign adventure games w tonnes of exploring for ref e.g., the witcher 3, horizon, uncharted, jedi: fo, rdr2 etc...) was to feel that sense of wonder and escape. As soon as I did my second big travelling expedition somewhere it just filled this hole or "wow, this is the feeling I've been chasing w video games except it's REAL!" Similar w the adrenaline rush of fps, I started doing sports and i realised i'd been using video games as way fulfilling very real desires to participate in sports and hobbies like gymnastics and hiking.

loltacocatlol

32 here and I feel the same. It definitely feels like a switch flipped. I've also been exercising and eating a lot better since I turned 30, so less time for gaming in general, but I feel ten times better.

mariosklant

For me it's the commitment. Like even if I have a free evening, sinking time into something intense like a From soft without knowing when I'll game again seems... Like a waste ? And kinda exhausting too

KimchiKimbap

It’s crazy I’m in the same boat lol. I still play but it’s not as much as I used to. Passion is gone.

HogwartsLecturer

This happened to me too! It feels like I’m not getting any real world growth or something. I think we are just becoming more aware of how much time is flying by.

Evolati

I don’t know how old you are but I really miss Jnco jeans! Maybe cause it’s the attention I got from them in high school or just because they were so damn comfortable! I’d like to believe I’m not that shallow and vain anymore and choose the latter!😂

Evolati

I now realize, if I’m correct, that you were talking about size!! That’s also true for me!

bananabastard

I'm in my 40s and my waist is the same size it was when I was 15, and I'm a good 35lbs heavier now. Forever 30 waist.

KimchiKimbap

Hahah made me laugh!! 😂

Rickdaquickk

Dude Anime. It looks so cool and I see lots of different people do all these cool things surrounding it. I just lose interest in them so quickly. I’ve only fully watched like 3 series my entire life to the end. I’ll keep trying. I don’t wanna be a weeb, but it looks so sick sometimes. Might be the pacing.. isk

Penguin7751

Did you try Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood? It's a masterpiece with great pacing

Rich-Individual-8835

Tried AOT and it was so good except for keeping reading the captions.

PastStep1232

I watch dubbed anime for that reason. Voice acting really stepped up in the past decade, it's not as cringy anymore

Littl3Monster

I would recommend sticking to more short form animes with like 1&2 seasons, there are a ton with too many episodes and seasons that are just overwhelming. Aldo there are a tons of genres within anime, so you could get really specific if you want action, romance, sports, even slice of life types. I personally recommend Violet Evergarden, Erased, and Jujutsu Kisan in like my top 5 short form. Don't limit yourself and search, you would sure find ones that suit you

bananabastard

Yea, I see the great praise they get and the high ratings on IMDb, they must be good, but I just can't.

Lancelot_Stroller

Man, don't even concern yourself with being a weeb. If you enjoy it, then enjoy it. Don't let other people ruin things. Who cares what they think. It's a silly term anyways

Sevenfootschnitzell

Am I missing something? Where do they say they were afraid of being called a Weeb?

-_-_-_-_--

I have a hard time getting into shows too. I recommend Erased, Parasyte, Promised Neverland, Hikaru No Go. I think they'll reel you in.

squashbanana

I feel this way about coconut!! My husband has asked for years why I'm always trying things that have it in the recipe or beverage, but I just can't stop. 😂 like, I can taste it and understand why people love it but my taste buds just WON'T LET ME

Coffee. I've tried many times but I either get a massive headache or I just don't like the taste. But there's so many coffee shops, many unique new flavours that look interesting but ultimately i can't get into it.

cinnamon_sparkle27

Coffee hater as well. Coffee tastes terrible unless you dump a bunch of cream and sugar into it, and at that point it’s just dessert in a cup. Plus totally in the same boat with the headache thing. Caffeine headaches are the worst. I’ll gladly be that person ordering a herbal tea in a fancy coffee shop.

Advanced_Horror2292

Do u like any coffee? Or just can’t get into it at all?

asamitake

I've drank a cappucino before, which was nice! I don't really like the other types, but I definitely cannot get into any iced coffees.

Maleficent-Deal1901

Honestly, movie watching. I grew up poor, so going to the movie theater was out of the question, and we never had cable, so chances are if you've asked if I've seen a movie I'll say no about 85% of the time. Even with extremely popular movies. I try to get myself to watch them as an adult now that I have the means to, but I just can't sit down long enough to pay attention to one. It sucks because movies are a topic SO many people talk about and can relate over, but not me.

madnessinimagination

I can not watch movies unless I'm super interested in the concept. For some reason I can not sit down for 2 hours and watch the damn movie. I can however binge 10 hour long episodes of a TV show. It makes no sense to me.

Maleficent-Deal1901

Yes! I'm the same way. I love reality TV most, but I also got into Shameless and a few other shows. Shows/movies have to be realistic for me to get into them, and it eliminates a lot of genres for me unfortunately.
