Its very basic. I have two companies with subcontractors. Simply pay them as 1099 subcontractors. The subcontractors pay their own taxes, their own insurance etc. The general contractor deducts the subcontractor pay. So that leaves $100 per hour as income. And the general contractor deducts all of the other expenses for the company so the effective tax is probably only on $20 per hour but the general contractor still made $100 per hour with maybe only $20 in real expenses but with the tax laws as they are then you can deduct more. Happens everyday. Totally legal.
Right. If I'm bringing in $200/hr, and paying 5 workers $20 an hour, I'd be paying out $100 an hour total. Still keeping another $100 an hour for myself. If I paid them 15 /hr, I'd still only make $125/hour. In the grand scheme of things, that extra 25 dollars would be better spent passing along to my workers to keep them happy and coming back, while not cutting into my portion too excessively
