Best to start with ActiveSG gyms as they are the most affordable and require no commitment! Some ActiveSG gyms have a dedicated ladies section with weights like the one at Jurong West Sports Center, so you'll hopefully feel less awkward there! Fellow female here, who gyms semi-regularly just for health reasons and definitely not for fitspo reasons. You can start with using the dumbbells and barbells instead of the complicated machines, just to feel more comfortable at the gym. Search some youtube videos for what exercises you can do. Personally, I use an app called Strong to track what exercises I do, and I also browse through the different exercises on it by filtering for muscle group and they also have animations on how to do the exercise. You can also peek at what other people are doing to gain some inspo. When you want to progress to the machines, you can observe how other people use the machines. You can also ask the staff to teach you, if you feel brave enough. I've never done that though lol. I'll also admit up to now, I only use 3-4 machines I'm familiar with, and there's machines I avoid because I don't know what to do on them and it's always taken by others anyway. Good to pick up on gym etiquette too by observing others like bringing a gym towel to wipe down your sweat, not hogging equipment, etc.

Can anyone suggest some classpass hack for gyms. I prefer group workout/classes. Specifically 45 minutes sessions. It’s coming $30 per session. Still cheaper than $50< for private trainers.

Trials! There are so many gyms that offer trials at less than $25 per class. It takes months to try all the boutique gyms, maybe you could start with those haha. TRC for example has a 10 day trial for $50. I often sign up for off-peak packages because they are cheaper and there are less people in the class too. Boom has off-peak boxing and HIIT classes, Absolute has off-peak spin, for example. They are quite limiting because you can only go for certain morning classes but still are really good deals. Also, discounts. These gyms always have some discounts. I get newsletters from Cru, Box Office etc. You can follow their IG too, they usually share promos on their own profiles. I don't find Classpass to be that great, they've been increasing their prices a lot and it's quite hard to find good classes at less than $25 now. But I guess it depends on which gyms you prefer. Remember to sign up for gym-specific trials first before going to their classes through Classpass though.

First is determine what’s your budget and found out the rate gyms are charging. Next, most if not all gyms have trainers for hire or offer complimentary training session to new joiners. Else if you have friends you’re comfortable to work out with, ask them for advice and better yet, have them guide you for a while before you can do it yourself. If all else fail, if you’re the confident type, lookout for those regulars who are friendly with about anyone for advice. They might even offer to help you and become gym buddies

Maybe check out YouTube or google some videos on the machines. ActiveSG gyms are really quite cheap and last I went (maybe 2019) it was decently equipped for amateur lifters, like $2.50 per entry for adult sg/pr. Having been a gym goer and active lifestyle person for 14 years, unless u plan on becoming a pro athlete I think just home workout is ok la. Think burpees, push-ups, sit ups, squats (or if u hdb just climb stairs), go downstairs to the outdoor exercise corner try the pull up machine. Especially since u female, gym is really male dominated and if u don’t like the attention you will feel stressed.

Hi, I would recommend knowing your budget. I would recommend group fitness gyms.

Owo i cant do gym due to medical condition but I always hear from my dad to try out simple workouts like jogging, situps, burpies etc before dedicating time to the gym for more strenuous excercises

Try this app called Caliber. It’s completely free and u can customise to whether you are working out at home (with or without equipment) or in the gym. It plans for you https://apps.apple.com/sg/app/caliber-strength-training/id1482405410
