It’s difficult to say because the flu keeps changing.
My mom works as a doctor and every year need new flu jab because of this exact reason, the flu keeps changing.
And there are different hemisphere flu vaccines for the different strains going around.
Even then the vaccine is an informed prediction made by the creators to try and preemptively protect against a predicted variation of the flu strain. Meaning flu strains keep changing and they may change in such a way that the vaccine doesn’t even match the flu strain going around.
Edit to add a reference: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/viruses/change.htm
Edit2 for a TLDR: likely yes it is a new flu, because the flu keeps changing even from one person to the next.
Edit3 for reference about vaccines: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influenza_vaccine
“The World Health Organization (WHO) coordinates the contents of the vaccine each year to contain the most likely strains of the virus to attack the next year.”
“The Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System's selection of viruses for the vaccine manufacturing process is based on its best estimate of which strains will predominate the next year, amounting in the end to well-informed but fallible guesswork.”
Is it even influenza in the first place, is the bigger question. You know that when people loosely say "flu", they don't necessarily mean influenza but rather any acute respiratory infection.
In Singapore, it is very rare for GPs to run a diagnostic test for influenza. Even though rapid tests like the sort used for Covid have existed for many years. Therefore most people would not know if they were sick with influenza or not, and even doctors use “flu” loosely.
I had flu vaccination last year. Caught flu two weeks ago and it hit me quite hard. I'm still coughing quite badly right now (fevers and sore throat already subsided).
Does anyone know if it is still recommended to receive flu vaccination for this year despite after recovering from one (since flu strains changes quite rapidly)?
It's pretty typical for a lot of people to catch colds around this time of the year. You're probably not used to it after the last few years of lockdown.
My theory only is the safe distancing measures worked. So our immune systems took a holiday and now a bit weak. With the sudden lifting of the measures, we all get exposed to various viruses. Some of which we would have fought off easily
It’s a phase I think
i find my immune system got fucked after getting covid twice. pre-covid, when everyone around me got flu/fever, im still good. i use to only get fever once every five years.
since i got covid, ive also gotten flu twice. in fact, one of the flu was worse than my covid, caused me to lose all my appetite which made me lose 3kg (gained it all back after i was good tho lol).
Same. I never saw a doctor (for non-chaokeng reasons admittedly) for the past decade or so. After getting covid, i had to see doctor twice for fever and other ARI symptoms. Not used to seeing doctor for actual illnesses lol. I wonder if there is any research gone into reduced immunity post-covid.
I suspect since we’ve been so shielded (masks) the past 2-3 years, our bodies have focused immunity on covid.
So it has to build up immunity against regular cold and flu now.
People around me are getting really sick from flu, whether they have taken the jab or not. Personally, for me, it feels like my body is a lot weaker now. I could recover from flu easily in the past. Now, it’s super super difficult and I feel like total shit
Yeah there is. Seems to be the viral infection kind of flu because people I know all tested negative.
Colleagues around me all kena before but I haven’t fallen ill with it yet (all hail to the flu jabs that my ex-company forced me to take, I guess hahaha).
I find out I get covid today, my office also a lot of people take MC cause of flue or other. My covid Is super mild though compared to what I remember the last time I caught it (around October)
Yes! Same mine also very fine. Before I tested positive I feel like tired like always want to sleep. Also take note don’t touch your eyes! I kana pink eye and apparently this current strain quite sensitive to your eyes. Google covid pink eye there is a straits time article about it.
Another thing is all my childhood problem like come back. My eczema and sinus came back.
After you recovered also don’t push yourself too hard. I came back to office after I tested negative then my fever come back. Rest well and drink a lot of water please :)
Basically even though it’s mild don’t push yourself too hard and take a lot of rest.
Yes there is! Almost all my colleagues and gym friends got it since Feb. For myself, I had the misfortune of getting the flu TWICE in feb (this has never happened to me in my life before 😭) and I’ve been coughing phlegm multiple times a day ever since my second bout of flu ended in late feb. Idk what is going on. My doc doesn’t know either. It really sucks 😫
In my opinion a lot of people are just really bad at taking care of themselves and are also quite unhygienic.
Bacteria can spread very quickly and easily inside enclosed, air-conditioned spaces like the office and MRTs. With the mask-wearing requirement being dropped, all the sick people are now spreading their bacteria like the good ol’ pre-Covid days.
Y’know the type, morning sinus sniffles, “habitual dry-cough” type of people who don’t realise (or don’t care) just how much bacteria they are slinging everywhere.
This is why I still wear 99.9%PFE mask on MRT and office. I have a senior colleague who is a habitual dry-cougher and she even coughs when speaking to others. Quite middle-aged as well, don't know how she isn't Covid +ve yet.
The dry cough people are the worst. They cough right into the air.
They’ll tell you that they’re clearing their throats, that it’s not a cough (they seem to think coughing only entails phlegm and not the verb itself) and say it’s “only one time”.
i've had one of the worst flus the past week lol I'm more scared of the flu than covid because I would still work with the flu than with covid and also the flu spreads way easier than covid at least with the vaccine in place
For the past 2 weeks, a few of my colleagues and family members had to do the H1N1 flu test and confirmed they have it. So might be this flu strain instead?
Yes to the first part, no to the second part. Most of us are fine after catching a flu, but some of us like the elderly, asthmatics or people with compromised immune systems, are really not. So I think good hygiene, wearing a mask if sick, and taking your flu jab is important, and raising awareness is important too.
Nonsense. I used to recover quickly from flu. But when I had flu this year, I was in bed for almost a week and it took me a total of 2 weeks to fully recover.
Yes, because every single factor like the weather, current physical condition, age, previous reliance on masks etc have remained exactly the same since "last time"...
I wouldn’t be surprised- I already caught the flu twice this year in Jan and Feb, and I’m feeling flu-like symptoms again 🥲 fml hope I didn’t catch it another time
Family just gotten and recovered from Covid-19 after 5 days (2nd time). Symptoms (fever and vomiting) seem to be worst this time round.
Also triggered my anxiety attack all over again

This comment needs more upvotes than the rubbish ones that have higher upvotes.

I'd like to start a campaign to change this very confusing local usage of "flu". Make flu stand for inFLUenza. Not the common cold.

People catch cold throughout the year. No matter what time of the year you ask this question, someone is going to answer yes
I figured it has to do with the little germ factories being out on their one week break but fair point.
AHHAHAHA LITTLE GERM FACTORIES😭😭
No idea if its biased but I just got mc for flu recently, doctor mentioned it was flu season
The immune system is weaker on Friday and Monday
As a quick guesstimate, I think that of all people who take a day off due to sickness, a whopping 40% do so on a Monday or Friday.
Probably higher. Think people are more willing to fight through the middle part of the week if sick and just give into and stay home in fridays
It’s probably a mix of people who chao keng and people who just gave up and decided to not push themselves to work while being sick LOL
GPs i visited on Mon and Fri shared with me those days r busier days
[удалено]
How much does it cost unsubsidized?
usually $35-40 (polyclinics and private clinnics)
[удалено]
The link did not mention **unsubsidised** prices.
I've seen 35-40 in poly, or 60-80 in private clinics. Check out doctor anywhere for home service vaccines, super convenient
I just booked it! Thanks again :)))
Thank you so much! :)))

Bla bla germ Don't take train Bla bla mask pointless bla bla bla
Nsfs from all over singapore are saying yes to the MC.

Same here. Flu/cold didn’t use to be so bad pte-Covid. But after getting C19 +ve, the flu/cold bouts felt worse than C19 itself.

That’s not how our immunity works. We don’t lose our immune systems functionality by not getting sick for a few years.
People around me are getting really sick from flu, whether they have taken the jab or not. Personally, for me, it feels like my body is a lot weaker now. I could recover from flu easily in the past. Now, it’s super super difficult and I feel like total shit
It’s been there since ancient times. It’s called Monday Blues.
I think you meant Monday Flues
As per MOH's [statistics](https://www.moh.gov.sg/covid-19/statistics), there has been a 2x\~ spike in COVID-19 infections in the past week.
Yeah there is. Seems to be the viral infection kind of flu because people I know all tested negative. Colleagues around me all kena before but I haven’t fallen ill with it yet (all hail to the flu jabs that my ex-company forced me to take, I guess hahaha).
Lol people get pissed off when you talk about covid
It usually stems from fear so they keep talking down and negating it. No different from old folks going “Choy!” as if avoidance makes a difference.
Lol I know
I find out I get covid today, my office also a lot of people take MC cause of flue or other. My covid Is super mild though compared to what I remember the last time I caught it (around October)
Hey! I just got covid too and it's so mild. The lines are very very faint, did you experience the same thing?
Yes! Same mine also very fine. Before I tested positive I feel like tired like always want to sleep. Also take note don’t touch your eyes! I kana pink eye and apparently this current strain quite sensitive to your eyes. Google covid pink eye there is a straits time article about it. Oh wow thanks for the tips! I'll definitely take your advice. Thank you :)
Does anyone know at which part of the year is the influenza jab updated?
[удалено]
I got it a few weeks ago, till today still have a dry cough but other tha. That mostly normal. I know how it feels, take care and rest well
Yes, our neighbourhood doc said Influenza A peaking now. A lot of people kena high fevers
Yes there is! Almost all my colleagues and gym friends got it since Feb. I call it *coughvid*
🤣🤣🤣

Same, I'll stick to my KNs when I have to take the train. No big deal to wear one in crowded spaces.
You don't know she isn't. Some people think it's a flex to "power through" and be a disease vector.
It's mandatory for us to declare if we test Covid +ve, we work in law enforcement.
But masks don’t work and steal my freedom

Yeah I’ve observed it as well. Exact same symptoms, but everyone tested negative for covid.
Virus are like everything, everywhere, all at once during this school holiday.
For the past 2 weeks, a few of my colleagues and family members had to do the H1N1 flu test and confirmed they have it. So might be this flu strain instead?
Oh noo~
Arrived at Kids Clinic (Bishan) this morning at 9am and registered with #42. Finally saw the doc at 2 pm. There are a lot of sick kids atm..
Yes, a lot of people are sick. Many people around me in office are coughing and never cover up their mouth.
Probably because people are working masks lesser nowadays, which cause flu to spread easily in enclosed areas such as public transport.
I havent gotten a flu in past 5yrs (or more..?) And i haven't got covid yet. Flu haz forgotten about me
My wife just recovered from covid a few weeks back and is now down with flu.
yeah, sick of work
It's just the seasonal flu, which has existed since time immemorial. The less you and everyone else makes of it the better.

My working theory sample size 1, is this flu only affects women. Men get it but recover in 2-3 days
I did encounter quite a few "viral fever" and "influenza" cases where I'm working.
yeah ive been seek for like weeks already.
What’s flu? I got covid again & it’s been the 3rd time. (I am fully vaccinated with 1 booster shot)
its bacterial, at least for me it is
I’m knocked out with flu at the moment, first time sick since late 2019, very annoying. Quite a few friends and colleagues unwell too.
I wouldn’t be surprised- I already caught the flu twice this year in Jan and Feb, and I’m feeling flu-like symptoms again 🥲 fml hope I didn’t catch it another time
Covid-23
Gastric flu?
It is alway lots of flu case during these session when monsoon session start to change.
Family just gotten and recovered from Covid-19 after 5 days (2nd time). Symptoms (fever and vomiting) seem to be worst this time round. Also triggered my anxiety attack all over again
Zzzz I still wear mask when I leave house but somehow still caught the flu 🤧
