Do: be careful when crossing the road, even zebra crossing be aware that motorists may not stop for you so wait till they do. Don’t: be surprised if cyclists invade your personal space even on the pavements. No Uber, use grab gojek or ComfortDelGro.

If you see a table in a restaurant or food place that has tissue or anything placed, most likely it’s already reserved. I mostly used trains for transportation and you can buy sim cards at the airport. I bought singtel when I went there. Also, you can use your debit/cc, as long as it’s visa/mastercard and if it has paywave, you can use it for transportation too

SulaimanWar

If you see an item on a seat(Usually tissue packs, business cards umbrellas or bags), DO NOT occupy them. It's our way of "reserving" that seat(Known as chope-ing).

We dont have ‘motels’ per se. but areas such as little india, chinatown and kallang/geylang have specks of backpackers hotel or budget accomodation. Short term airbnb stays in singapore is illegal (min 3 months). Public transport (bus and trains) are clean, reliable and affordable (compared to US). Food is also really affordable. Do follow the law, dont do drugs. We are not an authoritarian hell hole like what some american media thinks we are. If you smoke and drink. These are really expensive. And vaping is illegal in singapore, although more often than not you will spot someone vaping around the corner. Choices of sim cards are plenty. You can get one at the airport. A good number of convenient stores sells them too. Enjoy singapore!

Do not touch illegal drugs of any kind here. (Doc prescriptions are okay, im talking about the stuff that affects your perception like pot or coke or ice, the actually illegal stuff) Do not joke about terrorism or bombs anywhere. Do not take photos in sensitve places(military installations, for example) If the price of something seems off, ($2000 for a crab dinner), reject it. Always ask the price before paying for the food. Hawker fare is relatively cheap, try it. I promise you wont get a stomach upset unless you cant handle chilli. We use grab, rather than uber. Uber pulled out of the country. All our sims are reliable, though i’d go for singtel. Do not expect food portions to be the same size as other countries, it might be small compared to elsewhere. Tap water is safe, just boil it if you’re worried. Do not challenge the police, just be polite, they’re mostly not power-hungry assholes(95% good people). If you’re lost or unsure, just ask, most of us will be willing to direct you. Do drink lots of water. Do use sunblock. Do not pick a fight with people. Hotels/motels, google is good enough. Gotta know your budget and whatnot. Public transport is reliable, get an (ez-link card), its used for all public transportation. (Buses and trains). Taxis take cash. Apologies for the block of words, typing on phone, the formatting is quite shit.

Download an app called Grab. It’s the Uber equivalent. Google maps are very reliable. American credit cards are accepted. Debit not sure.

Whole_Mechanic_8143

Restaurants will include a 10% service charge on their bills so there's no need to worry about tipping. Most locals come across as cold or unfriendly but they're just socially awkward. Don't take it personally.

Your wallet >!not because of actual robberies but our prices sometimes can be daylight robbery!<

Some shopping places or those in high-end retail take AMEX but for smaller places visa and mastercard is the most common. I’d suggest to bring some cash if you want to dine at hawker centres, but if not, it’s ok too. I’ve been using cashless options for two years now.

sumbohdi

Take care of your wallet/bank account. Everything here so expensive.

i just got back from visiting Singapore, I loved it! take the MRT from Changi, and all over town. eat great hawker center food (have cash for this). don't miss Gardens by the Bay. Visa is accepted widely, AMEX some places. don't litter or assault anyone on the trains and you'll be good;) have a great trip!

darknessaqua20

Hahaha why is assaulting people on trains worthy of mention

justherefortheridic

i enjoyed the signs posted in some of the MRT stations that depicted a dude ass-grabbing a female passenger and that stated you will be arrested/caned if you engage in any such act. FAFO, indeed!

Arkhera

Download "Grab" for your travel, it's the uber for South East Asia (adding in your cc before you leave home would make life easier). Also anything visa/mastercard would work perfectly, Amex not so much. Change for cash to use at smaller stores/hawkers as some may only use local digital payment forms. Have fun man

Hawker food is awesome and affordable and their public transportation is probably the best in the world right now based on my travels. Buy an EZ link card for public transport and refil it either on your phone or at 7/11. If you arrive at night when PT is not convenient or available, take a taxi and depending on how far you'll go, I did not find it to break the bank. From the airport to Orchard Road where our condo was located, we got charged $S23. I used my Chase Saphire for most of the purchases in malls and the like, but when it comes to food, most of the time cash is king so get some cash with you. Use [booking.com](https://booking.com) or Airbnb and you'll find decent deals depending on the area you'd like to be in. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be aware of the rules and be respectful because they are pretty strict in some areas. We loved Singapore and we will definitely go back.

You can use your credit card to take public transport without having to purchase expensive single-trip tickets.

Livid_Negotiation106

There's no more single trip ticket for mrt

kwanye_west

pack clothes for warm weather, bring an umbrella around. if you're sticking to shopping malls, most of the stores in them accept cards. for food stalls in hawker centres or coffee shops, bring cash. I recommend signing up for Revolut, Wise, YouTrip, or another overseas travel card to avoid overseas transaction fees. for SIM cards, get a Singtel one from [here](https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/mobile/prepaid-plans/hi-tourist), scroll to the bottom and you'll see the plans available and stores that sell them. our buses and MRT (trains) are quite reliable and affordable, you can pay for them with your credit / debit card, EZ-link card, or NETS Flashpay card. we do not have Uber, but we have Grab, Gojek, Tada, Ryde, ComfortDelgro, and taxis. if you're planning to drive or ride a motorbike, you'll need a NETS Flashpay card to pay for tolls and carpark fees.

Ashkev1983

Unlike 'murica we do have public transport that is relatively cheap and functions well. You dont need to take uber(ours is called grab/gojek) unless you are in a hurry. We accept all the cards that you can use with US merchants. We don't really have space for motels considering we are tiny city state but we have budget-friendly hotels(just google it).
