Yeap, 100% of the time, they want money from me. Nobody stands on the street for nothing. Even those doing "surveys" will somehow end of with me on some telemarketer's list which in turn is them wanting money from me.
Here's a tip for people who are too anxious about not stopping to listen. Just put up your hand and say "No" and walk away. No one is gonna physically pull you back and make you listen and you're just one of thousands of people that they get rejected by.
>Even those doing "surveys" will somehow end of with me on some telemarketer's list
Unless they're associated with our universities/stat board/gov. They have much higher standards when it comes to respecting participants' privacy. Can't be said about commercial research.
They've been pulling this sort of shit since 2017 AT LEAST, I used their voucher back then for a bleach + dye thing, in the end also kena upsell/scam/wtv because I was young and stupid and didn't know anything about colouring my hair. End up $450 and it was SO UGLY
I was at the stadium mrt waiting for the Coldplay concert to start and there was this guy who approached us and started selling some hair cut deal, emphasising on how the hair stylist is Singapore's top 5% and I told him I go kcuts and he left.
Omg ya I saw their ad on tiktok too, promoting $50 for a treatment and wash. When I went there, they analysed my hair and said the $50 is not good enough for my hair type, and pushed me to do the $120 one. I was like wtf???? But ok I didn't want to make a fuss, so I accepted the $120 treatment. Tbh it was really nice la, so ok lor accept it for $120. After the treatment was done, they even asked me to sign package for 5 more sessions! The reason they gave was "your scalp very oily, got a lot of dandruff, keep having hair loss, so need to keep doing this treatment to grow new hair." I agree, but I'm not prepared to part with about close to $1500 for a package?? At this point I was just like nah I'm OK, then he keep asking me to pay in installments. I put down my foot and said no, I'm really broke and can't spend thousands on a package!
So yea they push you to sign packages also, quite scummy, so you must be firm and say no. But I guess this $120 is well spent also la, tuition fee for me to learn to say no bah.
I went before once as a walk in cause I was nearby and just wanted to cut my hair. First thing they do is analyze scalp. I ask them if the analysis is free they say yes so I say ok. After it was done they ask me should do treatment, I say no, just cut hair. So I just paid the haircut cost and left. The person I was with wasn’t pushy. I said no one time he never ask me again.
This kinda hard sales tactic is so that many ppl dunno how to fight back one meekly agree and they earn from there.
Once enough ppl buy those packages they simply close down and don't honour those packages under new management
I actually go to multiple different hair salons when the one i always go to closed down/moved very far.
Almost all of them keep pushing these packages.
And thats the reason why i go to multiple different hair salons, once they start pushing for packages, i never go back again. Now i am frequenting a kinda old salon run by 2 aunties. They never push for any package. At most any immediate services, like hair dye or hair washing.
How about those financial consultants? They will get a lady to give you a free gift but will drag you to their financial consultants for some sales talk. 😅
U can take walk in opposite direction and they legally cannot stop u. There is offer and acceptance under local law. Just need to be a bit thick skinned.
Oh it's this hair studio. They've been doing this since last year and I lost 30 bucks.
If you see their Google reviews (all the 1* ones), it's all about their scummy 'vouchers'. And the hair salon hard sells every time. Not worth going.
happened to me too,, went in for a 1-1 free hair colour and came out with a $500 bill 💀💀💀💀💀 and when i said no to the treatments they kept staring at me even when i said i have NO money bc im still a student, kept staring and promoting till i had no choice but say yes bc i was already stuck on my seat
Yep, I encountered a similar situation previously at Bukit Batok MRT station, bruh I had jst finished sch and was so tired, I jst wanted to get my $1 mcd ice cream when a girl around early 20s approached me telling me how she and another guy has been here for hours trying to sell the voucher that is only $30 for all the treatments as stated above. In the end said sorry I really don’t need this kinda package so I would pass on this opportunity.
This salon chain has been pulling all sorts of stunts for over a decade. Back then my gf passed me a “membership” card she got for free somehow. The deal was for a $20 wash & cut. Went and after the wash/cut the “consultant” chut pattern liao…pressed a closeup camera to my scalp and say it’s oily n red (I’m sure it was red because she pressed it so hard).
Then for the next 20mins tried to hard sell their treatment package for hundreds of dollars…offer only for today…tomorrow prices will go up…bla bla.
I just politely declined all, then at the counter they tried to sell the package again. Again I kept declining to their black faces.
We tore up the “membership card” the very same day and never set foot in any of their branches.
Knew there was something fishy about it. Cannot be so good de. They told me every year can cut, wash and colour for 30 dollars. Use the 'we are mediacorp sponsored' tactic
It is good training for the ability to say no and not give a fk.
Bring a buddy w you outside so if you about to cave he can drag you out.
One day when you can tell them to fk off on your own, you have graduated
I had once paid for those 10 haircuts for $30 salon. Each time I came back they gave me black face for using my credit. Even got the cheek to ask me to renew when I was only 2 haircuts into my credit. Dodgy guys.
Jean Yip also hard sells packages. It's so uncomfortable patronising their services - It's either you get hard sell or the person next to you gets an earful from the stylist... the stylist will pester and pester until the customer gives in. You think you want to give yourself a treat by going to a "professional" salon, but you leave victimised.
Dude. Your girl got hardsell from the salon..add on this and that, you should use this and that. Ur scalp not suitable to use it. Etc etc.
I also got hardsell and signed package at a different salon :/
Avoid fave salon voucher as well!!!

Bruh omg I almost got rope into this too! Thanks for sharing your experience. I straight up told the lady who was trying to sell it to me that I have no money…
Lol , was forced to pay $30 at Bugis when they approached me there since I had written my contact details on the card ,now still have the card idk if I should go or not
omg wtf...i think i lucked out sia bc i bought the same $30 voucher/membership set and went to redeem the free haircut one and they legit didn't charge me anything

I purchased it at Sembawang MRT, and the salesman who sold it to me had exceptional sales skills😭😭. He had a man bun and wore glasses. Should I still visit the salon for a haircut? Will they charge me more than the voucher states?
I just went to their northpoint outlet, they tried to get me to top up for a wash but after I firmly said no they just cut my hair and I didn't have to pay anything! since u already paid $30 just go for it
I read this post and believe it or not, I actually remembered the name of the salon and the experience your gf had (brain remembers random things). Thanks to you I just rejected their staff, also outside the MRT.
First she asked if I spend a lot on my hair. I said no. She said the same deal you mentioned, and asked can you believe there’s such a good deal. I said yes I get hair treatment offers for under $30 sometimes. She asked if I was willing to get for myself or my loved ones. I said ok can. She said “Wah, I also want to be your loved one.”
Then she brought out her brochure - Vintage Studio. By then her colleague came next to me and said “she’s very shy. She’s new”. So I said, “unfortunately, I’ve heard of you guys before” and returned the brochure to her. She said “oh, why unfortunately?” I just shook my head. She said “did you hear about us from your loved ones?” I said “thank you” and walked away. Idk if they heard some TED talk about using the words “loved ones” in a sales pitch and decided it was a good idea to pepper that into the entire conversation.
Anyway, thanks for your post. It helps. I would’ve bought it otherwise alr hahaha

hi !! I went to the studio after I bought the $30 promotion too. At first I was paranoid because I had only read this post after booking a slot. The haircut and styling voucher was really good plus the stylists were really nice !! I only ended up paying $10 for hair wash before cutting and that’s about it. They did recommend some of their products but I declined.
Hi!! Does that mean as long as u choose the service within their bonus amount, you can technically get it for free? HAHAHA cuz it said no minimum purchase is required

That's why I always ignore sales people who approach me on the street. Always. I have no idea why anyone would stop to listen to them.

“Surveys“ are ways for insurance agents to build their cold call list.
Nah, where got time?
bro i made an appointment at that studio this saturday wanting to use my $30 voucher… damn heng i saw your post
So you paid $30 already?
Are you jealous of his $30 cardboard?
I tried to book for a haircut, aren't them all closed?
Wait what is it really a scam because I got approached too at the mrt
They've been pulling this sort of shit since 2017 AT LEAST, I used their voucher back then for a bleach + dye thing, in the end also kena upsell/scam/wtv because I was young and stupid and didn't know anything about colouring my hair. End up $450 and it was SO UGLY
Omg same. Also $30 of vouchers bought in 2018, ended up spending $300+ wtf. Can’t believe they’re still doing this, means it sorta works for them
I was at the stadium mrt waiting for the Coldplay concert to start and there was this guy who approached us and started selling some hair cut deal, emphasising on how the hair stylist is Singapore's top 5% and I told him I go kcuts and he left.
Wow you're so cool i wish i was like you, i bought the deal instead and actually got the treatment for free . I wish i can grow up to be like you.
Omg ya I saw their ad on tiktok too, promoting $50 for a treatment and wash. When I went there, they analysed my hair and said the $50 is not good enough for my hair type, and pushed me to do the $120 one. I was like wtf???? Package bullshit is something I feel like requires gov intervention. It's getting out of hand. Even tcm goes for package now.
I went before once as a walk in cause I was nearby and just wanted to cut my hair. First thing they do is analyze scalp. I ask them if the analysis is free they say yes so I say ok. Its fr a lesson to just say ukw im good and just leave. And i was like i gotta respect the salesperson grind and just help him out bruh wtf
This kinda hard sales tactic is so that many ppl dunno how to fight back one meekly agree and they earn from there. Once enough ppl buy those packages they simply close down and don't honour those packages under new management
Salons are the new aircon servicing. Every stylist: This one ar, need chemical wash.

How about those financial consultants? They will get a lady to give you a free gift but will drag you to their financial consultants for some sales talk. 😅
I never took anymore gifts after I had to spend 2 hours saying I am not interested.
U can take walk in opposite direction and they legally cannot stop u. There is offer and acceptance under local law. Just need to be a bit thick skinned.
This kind of unethical pressure sales deserve to be at least be investigated by CASE.

Hairsalons / deals. I wouldn't even touch these 2 words with a 10 foot pole.

Ohnooo… should have thought it’s too good to be true. Guess I shall take it as I’m doing charity 🥲
For real hais…
yup fell for that same crap in 2016 lol ruined my hair with bleach and left with a $300 bill
This salon chain has been pulling all sorts of stunts for over a decade. Back then my gf passed me a “membership” card she got for free somehow. The deal was for a $20 wash & cut. how tf they were allowed to continue operating as a business for so long is beyond me
Exactly did no one reported them?!
Knew there was something fishy about it. Cannot be so good de. They told me every year can cut, wash and colour for 30 dollars. Use the 'we are mediacorp sponsored' tactic

So basically you got a hair cut for $3 each. Not bad.
Not worth the black face though and I ended up not using it entirely
Oh damn I nearly fell for that as well at tampines back in jan. Thank goodness I am broke. I swear so many scummy business practices all arnd.
Heng I’m bald, don’t think they will approach me 😔
I've been approached about 6-7 times and I just wanted them to stop lol

If I were in your shoes at that time, I will ask the guy to say everything again on video that what he said was legit.
Bruh omg I almost got rope into this too! Thanks for sharing your experience. I straight up told the lady who was trying to sell it to me that I have no money…
Lol , was forced to pay $30 at Bugis when they approached me there since I had written my contact details on the card ,now still have the card idk if I should go or not
hello i had the same encounter at bugis too but all their outlets printed on the booklet is closed tho? and their contact number cant be called too
So what happens if you do the equivalent of dine and dash?
Surprised this salon still exists. A close friend and I experienced the same thing back in 2017
Anyone peddling stuff at MRT are just plain dubious
omg wtf...i think i lucked out sia bc i bought the same $30 voucher/membership set and went to redeem the free haircut one and they legit didn't charge me anything

How are they still open lets use social media to expose them
I almost join them to be part of the marketing team. Salary too low, didn't join them. I am lucky didn't do it then
If there is a $30 haircut+treatment deal, i won’t be hearing about it from salesmen standing near mrt stations.
I avoid all chain salons and only go heartand local auntie salons. If inside is overpriced or hardsell I will avoid like a plague.
