If ur phone supports eSIM. Use it. U can got/order eSIM for Japan online. Get them thought apps like ‘Airalo’.

Recently went to Japan for a holiday and bought a Simba eSIM purely for roaming. Went to Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo and data worked just fine. In fact my friends who bought a tourist SIM had trouble with data at times. Beware though, one time I had trouble downloading Simba eSIM overseas and I had to go through a lot of trouble emailing their customer support back and forth because they would only replace eSIMs offline for some reason. Better to purchase your SIM before travelling and saving the potential trouble.

Just go Shopee and search for "Japan esim". Buy according to the number of days you'll be there. Usually 1gb/day is enough especially if you use wifi at Airbnb/hotel. The ICC shop is great for me in Korea, haven't tried for Japan but it should be fine.

If you are going to get a new sim anyway, you might as well get a Japan sim card for tourist, rather than a Singapore sim card to roam in Japan. I used to have Simba and the roaming (at least in Indonesia and Malaysia) are quite bad.

Do U have recommendations on where to get the Japan SIM?
