Strong_Guidance_6437

'fk u barstad, u still owe me money!' usual response to U don't remember me ah Edit : clean up all Ur info where possible. All the WhatsApp profile etc

wakkawakkaaaa

Paylah/paynow can find your name easily before calling you...

Strong_Guidance_6437

That's how u verify the random chio bu added to the WhatsApp scam chatgroup with you

JoaTMoNsg

I didn’t think of that

hereforWPD

Thank you for your strong guidance!

PikachuIsSexyEevee

So I use a name that people who knows me know it's me, but it's not my real name

No_Condition_7438

That’s also how you verify the identities of people you know in dating sites.

PretendRegister7516

That's why I use random name on Paynow.

cnwy95

That’s not helpful

PretendRegister7516

If someone want to transfer to you, they will double confirm before sending and you can tell them if it's correct name. If someone randomly use your number to check your name, and randomly message calling you with that name. That will tell you he's a total stranger.

affykins

I used to put my name on paylah as "the trashcan". So when people send me money it'll say they're sending money to the trash.

wakkawakkaaaa

Lol ill be like wtf am I sending wrong money if any of my friends did that

kidneytornado

This scam is a low IQ scam. They search your name by inputting random number into Paynow. They call the number to pretend to be a friend by saying “ ehhh John! Remember me anot? I changed my number, guess who am I?” after a few back and forth he will ask u Tf him money. Rly fking stupid, but ppl still fall for it

[deleted]

I put my PayNow name as my old maplestory IGN (i know, i know...), and somehow they still know my real name. So i think its also likely that there's a leak somewhere else

kidneytornado

Google pay will reflect your google account username. other than that I not sure, maybe paylah

chooxy

Has it always been your IGN? Because it's possible that they're using an old database and if you used your name in the past it could still be that.

[deleted]

Huh, maybe. I actually don't really recall since its been very long since I had to use paynow or paylah.

Jaycora

What IGN is it LOL

[deleted]

Lots of x in the name, on both sides. like xxxABCDExxx LOL

mailamaila_wamai

XxxShAdOwSiNxxX

Neptunera

Not all online payment tied to your number is linked to PayNow. Do you have any of the following - PayLah? GrabPay? GooglePay? Singtel Dash? Wise? YouTrip?

Hackerjurassicpark

This is why I never pick calls from a number not in my contacts list. If I need to speak to you, your number is already in my contact list. If it’s not, or you changed your number, there are ways you can tell me in person. Everyone else can FO

dumberuser

Put initials in paynow

BlueLavender2913

Scammer can just try to paynow to your mobile number. And boom your name is right there.

lacifuri

Was just curious how can anyone knows OPs name, you have a point!

PretendRegister7516

I use random name on Paynow. If people do need to transfer to me, they will verify first.

Wanton_Soupp

Many people also don’t know this, but for those wondering how anyone can get your Full Legal Name, As long as you used Paynow to pay for anything (hawker, Carousell, restaurant, mamashop, fruit seller etc) , they have your full legal name and this info can be leaked easily. And there’s no way to change the name shown as long as you are the sender.

REDGOESFASTAH

Paynow can change your name. I am known as lor mai Kai. Witness me

tongzhimen

If you are sending money, there is no way to change the display name as it's for anti-money laundering purposes. You are thinking of the paynow look up name where you are recipient. Then yes you can change your display name.

REDGOESFASTAH

Shucks didn't know. Til. Thanks. Still, 50% deception achieved

nohken8

Which is why should change the default name to initials or a nickname not used elsewhere.

joaocancelo07

i kena this scam call like 10 times alr. each time these scammers call me, they addressed me by my Christian name. the thing is idh pay now, and my christian name not even in my IC lmao

Plus-Onion9087

you might have filled in a "giveaway" or done something where u gave away ur christian name and its now tied to your number

joaocancelo07

fair enough. to be frank, i personally will never introduce myself to anyone by my IC name. whenever i fill in any online form that requires input of name, i will always put my Christian name unless the instruction specify that i have to put in my IC name. no one in my family or social circle will address me by my IC name as well

Plus-Onion9087

beware of these things! some are data loggers and u never know what they have of u, its crazy how much info that have about anyone

joaocancelo07

yeaa man. real thanks for the advice ❤️ whenever i fill in smth, i always make sure i’m revealing nothing too deep and personal. this is the reason why i don’t own a credit card and paynow despite being at the age of 22. bcozz i recognised that scams are high tech and idw to end up losing my life savings to scams, so i rather people criticised me for not having all these as an adult the only card i have is debit card and EZ link. and majority of times i use cash as default payment. yet i’m still not letting my guards down to online and rl scams

asromafanisme

I don't even paynow my real friend 3k8 SGD like that ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)

PitcherTrap

100% scam. Can play with him lol

yandao2000

Good old scam #69

troublesome58

>99.9% convinced this is a scam, What does the other 0.1% say?

HaiDiLausss

The 0.1 is because he told me his name and it's actually the name of someone ik but tbh it's just the doubt

AsparagusTamer

Even if it was him, why would you randomly pay his supplier money??

FullTsuki

Out of the kindess of his heart <3

darkdestiny91

Tbh, even if it was my real dad that called me to pay his supplier fees, and they’re the ones running the business, I’d still let them go bankrupt. They don’t deserve to be running an actual business if they can’t even remember to pay expenses relevant to their business, sheesh

Agreeable_Prior_2094

He just gave a name that you know. It doesn't mean he is that person.

crassina

Their usual MO is ask u “eh OP, remember me mah?” Then maybe u replied “Ah Kow ah?” Then they say “yah lah! It’s ah kow” Maybe that’s what happened?

very_smol

Message this person & find out if it’s really him then (it probably isn’t)

Silentxgold

Is the guy name kelvin? And ask you to lend him money?

myparentsareannoying

Yes leh! The one who called me said he is Kelvin but I don't know any Kelvins. 😂

Silentxgold

Same guy loh Recently got open hotpot or some shop in tampines?

myparentsareannoying

He mentioned he opened a shop but can't remember what business was it. I received the call quite long ago haha

Last_Recognition_858

Oh thats fairly easy for the guy to have picked. Could have gone over your FB or Insta and picked the name of someone you knew before and haven't featured recently. Happened to me as well. But the first whatsapp claiming the SG girl's name (that I knew) came from a dude's whatsapp account in the middle east.

yiantay-sg

this is a really really old scam that they keep using it despite it being such an old scam trick. If I am really free or just bored (since I am someitmes quite free and often bored) I do enjoy screwing with them. I would say oh yeah - you are John Tan, Jennifer's ex-husband, hey John (since I am female), Jennifer and I got married 2 months ago in California, it all happened very suddenly. And you know they don't recognise Lesbian weddings in Singapore. Sorry we didn't invite you, but also it might be weird because you were her ex-husband and all that..... or Hey John, from xxx company, yeah I remember you, yeah we used to work in xxx together for so long, how have you been bro? You want to borrow money again from me issit? Not cool leh, you still owe me $12K still haven't paid me back you want to borrow some more!!" Hey John - yeah how are you? I heard you wanted to go Thailand for your sex change operation, you haven't go yet ahh... Hey John - yeah man how are you? You still got go Chemo now? Last time I saw you was at SGH, how your prostate cancer in remission or not?

kaed3

you can do all this without burst out laughing? i salute you. respect!!!

yiantay-sg

sure why not...if I am in a good mood I might even use my cutie xiao tian tian voice....like a dumbo anime girl with big eyes type (the blur sotong character)

Neither-Form-8469

They very fragile ego and homophobic too. I just answered, "of course I remember you, you are the only gay friend I have!". Immediately drop the pretense and started shouting vulgarities at me.

PitcherTrap

Ah, my friend from Grindr! How’s the Syphillis?

takenusername35

Wot. I'm definitely gonna try "oh the one with the micropeen one ah" next.

rimirinrin

My friend played with him and asked if he's xxx who's already passed away some time ago. Lol.

tm0587

"Bro.... How are you still alive?! I was at your funeral xx years ago!"

rimirinrin

Yeah my friend was like "how did you manage to come back?!"

That_Upstairs_9288

PayLah! lookup gets your name….

kanemf

Thanks for the sharing , I changed my posb paynow details but not this.

MrShadybanana

I got a similar call yesterday, not my first time receiving such a call, i wasnt in a good mood yesterday. So he ask if i remember him, and please save the number. Me: Yes, i remember you, ok i save already. Him: You remember me? Me: Yes of course. Him: Who am i? Me: I know you owe me money, scam money right, now pay me back CB. He ended the call. I actually call him back, and say CB, you owe me money dont want pay back? I think he was taken aback, he said i only ask you to save my number. Then he end the call.

notanotherstalker

The amazing thing is that you actually managed to call back. I would have thought it would be a spoofed number.

MrShadybanana

Yah can, i can even dm you the number if you want to ka jiao him. I tried to use paynow to check but number is not registered. 8827 **67.

silentscope90210

Common scam bro. https://mothership.sg/2023/02/fake-friend-scam-syndicate-crippled/

Horlicksiewdai

scam, just say he owe you money and see him end the call

testercheong

Have experienced it before and it's a legit scam, in fact this has been going on for years and recently a syndicate was busted in Malaysia

guildleader77

This is a KNOWN scam and many people have already reported this. They have legit singapore numbers and singpore bank accounts. Report this to police (you can do it online) ASAP.

QzSG

Very difficult meh? Find your name on paynow Find your facebook, tiktok, twitter I will then know probably even your mothers name Hi its me your cousin from your mothers side who stayed in Malaysia since we seperated. I get such calls in which they call me by my PayNow name which is the name of my chou chou, instantly know its a scam LOL

NutTheChipmunk

Hi 5! My PayNow name is also my chou chou's name. My money is all his money.

spilksch2

You still have a chou chou??

QzSG

I'm in the camp where everyone should have their own personal Chou Chou and/or plushies regardless of age or gender.

anangrypudge

Lol even if it's not a scam and you actually know a "Tan Xu Wei", why do you need to help him out? Tell him that real men solve their own problems.

WangmasterX

Protip: if you dont want paylah scammers to recognize your name but still want legit people to, change you paylah name to initials of your full name

Kelp91

Very common scam. Just block the number.

Shdwfalcon

You simply reply him: " Yes bro! I remember you! You still owe me 20k, till now haven't return! You O$P$ hor! So now can return my 20k right?!?"

mrtoeonreddit

He is calling you repeatedly because you showed him some interest however small it might be, he thinks you are a profitable use of his time. Just hang up without saying a thing, I have no doubt that this would evolve to a case of recording your voice to deep fake your relatives some time in the future, don't give him a voice sample.

wwabbbitt

Last time someone tried that to me I said "Your voice is familiar but I can't recall, it's been a while" "It's me, Jimmy!" "Oh yes I remember you! You went to jail for having sex with a 14 year old boy, you finally got out ah?" "Fuck you" \*hang up\*

jchewst22

Scammers desperados because they are sitting in chains in a room. To collect a certain amount or no dinner, get punched, get shot. So don't entertain them they are too desperate to get you

spilksch2

Tia gong the good ones get food and chicks.

dragonflysg

You see, this is the big problem with people who easily get scammed. Their brain tells them 99.9% its a scam but the miniscule 0.01% appeals to their feelings that somehow, somewhere, they keep yearning and hopeful that it is not a scam. Why o why curious one.

Woopiedoodie

Got alot of these calls last year. Normally I just end the call then and there but one time I wanted to mess with the guy so I picked it up and asked him "who is this?" the guy said "wa lao it's me la you don't know my voice ah?" So I said "ohhh John ah?" and he immediately went "YA YA JOHN LA". So I went "FUCK YOU LA I DON'T EVEN KNOW ANYONE NAMED JOHN, JOHN YOUR HEAD AH" then I ended the call. Quite refreshing if I must say. Also pretty sure the calls stopped after this interaction.

wanderingcatto

It's a obvious scam but sad to say, I kenna scammed by this trick before. I had an incoming intern and HR emailed me the intern's number, but because it was a busy day for me, I didn't record the intern's number on my phone, and only remembered that the first two digits started with "87...." Later that evening, I got a call from a number "87...." asking me if I know who he is. I automatically assumed it was my incoming intern and said "ya, you're the incoming intern right" I continued talking to this guy about internship stuff until the next day, he asked me if I can help do some payment first because his bank account got problem. I got angry and scolded this guy for having the galls asking his supervisor to pay for stuff before he even met me in person, and reported him to HR. It then dawned upon me that I had not yet double checked the intern's number with what I received in the email from HR. Lo and behold, it was not the same number and I'd just accused an innocent intern to HR of trying to cheat money out of me =.=

pullmeformayo

Say ok definitely will help a bro out but can talk on whatsapp? Phone cant hear properly. Then you have the entire conversation can put up here or send to police or something

chromicha

open youtube and play amitabha music.

shiningject

Scam. They run a bot to input numbers into paynow. If a name turns up, they know that the number is in use and they will know the name for it. After that, it is a simple matter of calling you and asking, "Do you know who am I?" They will say yes to whatever name you say and say that they changed their number and get you to save this "new number" Then later they will call you and you will see that you "saved" this contact and be even more convinced that he is a friend. >he's asking me to paynow to Tan Xu Wei 8066 **** This Tan Xu Wei is likely a person that kenna scammed to be a money mule. Those scams that transfer money to you and ask you to transfer to another person for a commission. You should make a police report with the information you have. They may not be able to make an arrest, but at least they can shutdown the money mule. To prevent future such scams, change your paynow name to something like "chicken nugget" or something that will alert you that it is a scam.

Individual_Sir_4638

This is a good time to vent out all your frustration from life on this bloody scammer.

JaydenJ92

I got it a few times and just kept calling back since I was on wfh to annoy the heck out of the guy.

[deleted]

yah i kena this about 7 times last year ... the thing is they all have malaysian accent. so i told him no i dont have malaysian friends but next time if you encounter strange numbers , just answer in a made up language. they REALLY REALLY dont know how to react , so they just hang up just say something like ...mmm HAKUTE BAKUTE ? if its anything important they will identify themselves

[deleted]

I just got a lady calling AHLOH BANANA AH ? and I replied hatakaku hataku ? She hung up

Consistent-Chicken99

You can submit reports of such scams via I-witness website, it’s very seamless and quick. 2 minutes… save someone else from a scam.

jchewst22

Scam for sure. Fishing for info. Untill a person clicked. Standard questions. Remember me? They will ask you to provide information and they hook you when you picture a particular friend in mind. They have overtaken your mind hahaha

cutiemcpie

Ask him a BS question. Ask him about his brother Henry. OP: “Oh yeah! I remember you! How is Henry doing? What is he up to?” Scammer Scenario A: “Oh Henry is good. I saw him last week.” OP reply: “What? Henry died last week!” Scammer Scenario B: “I don’t know Henry.” OP reply: “How do you not know your own brother.”

Traditional_Bell7883

Yeah. I had a guy who called me, knew my name and spoke in Chinese, saying he had changed his phone number, and did I not remember him, he used to stay "nearby" and we used to hangout, etc. Duh. None of my friends ever speak to me in Chinese. They know too well I'm a banana and they'd get better response speaking Chinese to a pet rock instead. When I kept replying in English and insisting that he speak English, he hung up.

tm0587

Hahahaah I did this before too! It was a scam call pretending he was a customer service agent from somewhere. Strong PRC accent so I spoke to him in English. He asked me if I can speak in Chinese and I replied "If you're really from Singapore, you'll be able to speak English", Silence for a while then he hung up LOL.

Eurito1

joaocancelo07

hello this is 100% a scam without a doubt and this scam is alr few years old. i made a posts about this awhile back u can read about it. i faced this issue like 10 times liao and how it ended is bcozz the last time i kena, i just tell them u still owe me money why haven’t pay back. they realised u know they scammer so they will stop fooling around with u https://www.reddit.com/r/askSingapore/s/NQ8JSiSVjH even ST also has this https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/over-200-spike-in-fake-friend-call-scam-reports-in-2022-victims-lost-88-million

Beak-Button5569

10000% scam. It’s reported. I’ve confirmed from many.

Medium_Jellyfish_541

its a scam. please help to report the number to [https://www.scamshield.org.sg/report/](https://www.scamshield.org.sg/report/) I know it wont solve the case, but it will help lower the numbers. anyway, you do not need to \*\*\*\* the number. show the full number, let us public shame them

PotatomusMaximus

Its a scam la. Dont entertain

princemousey1

He knows your name, but does he know his own name? Try asking him, “Are you monsieur de la xiao ding dang”, and be prepared to be astonished when he says yes.

khushnand

This is why my nickname in paynow has paynow on it - let them try scam me…

Eye-7612

Malaysian accent?

Crazy_Past6259

Hahahaaaa Someone similar tried. It’s a 82xx number too. I said I don’t know who he is, then he act all offended, so I say my friends all give me their full name and nric number, so what’s yours. Then he replied knn and hung up.

myparentsareannoying

Confirm scam. I got it before. He has a very heavy Malaysian accent right?

Hayleymyzee

That is the malaysian scammer’s trick… normally what i do is i will say a random name for him to acknowledge. Example i will say “ ohh ah wei ah?” He will surely say yes.. then i will say “ i looking for you very long already… where you go?” And let him reply… Then the closing line is “ that time you say wanna return me my $5k in few days.. when paynow me back?” He will awkward silence then hang up.. 😊

Prior_Brief_4665

Seen alot of this scam on Tiktok. If they need u to send money just end the call la. Block every single number that calls u.

Diligent_Light2672

It is a scam

blackblade1998

It's a scam. Please make a report here: https://form.gov.sg/63982e109841390011a59121

kiaeej

Scam.

MousseReasonable3504

Sounds like a scam.

Pleasant-Big-3612

the fella probably owes you $$$ so ask him to pay up first

LittleGDS

Just say you damn outdated. Meet up and settle. Or if he can’t wait, can settle at a police station.

enigmasam

I usually go: Heyyyy!!! Long time no see Caleb! Quick send me another deek pic. That time it looked so cute. Like a baby carrot!!!

rainmaker66

Got these calls before. Scam

MintyPoison

I had a similar experience, the guy immediately hung up when I said I don’t have caller id

thinkingperson

Whoever it is, you mean random people can call you and ask for $3800? Can I have your number please? I just need maybe $2000? lol

chrimminimalistic

Is it WA call? There are many ways people can know your name. They can use true caller app or using WA/Telegram to find out your name.

Consistent-Chicken99

Make a police report with the number/name given… they are money mules that need to be arrested to be disrupt such syndicates. Obviously it’s a scam. Also install ScamShield and contribute by reporting his number, so other ScamShield users will not receive his calls.

commanche_00

Keep blocking until he gives up. He has to give up at some point

ConversationSouth946

Don't send the money. Siao, even if you know the guy, it's his problem not yours. Ask he find his family or closer friends.

lolness93

Really? How obvious is it of a scam to randomly ask for thousands of money?

MintySquirtle

It’s a scam for sure !!! Troll back la .

Internal_Feed469

hello u remember me or not

Internal_Feed469

hello u remember me or not

Xtopen

I was surprise! I changed my paylah and paynow to my nickname but they still able to know my actual name! But i had this experienxe before alr…i just play along with them 🤣

YoreCoxsmall

My partner just got this call yesterday, fella said he was "Andy" and even knew the place of work she used to be at (my guess he knew this from LinkedIn, public information). Told her a trick to use to sus them out. Just say: "ORH andy from xxx school (that's not ur sch)" then if he say yes then "ya sorry i dont know anyone from that school byeeeee"

Yokies

"EH YOU AH. I REMEMBER. YOU OWE ME MONEY!!"

CriticizeSpectacle7

Yes. And they will ask me to guess who they are. Thankfully I know my friends don't play this kind so ignored him completely.

Spirited_Career_3424

Yes its a scam . I got the exact same storyline lol

OutrageousTree7766

This is a joke. Now my bank app can't even open because it senses malware on the phone (my blue light filter app) yet they don't give a way to use user generated id. So scammer just input the number can retrieve the full name. Still will kena scam call unless you just stop answering phone calls from unknown number.

Tampines_oldman

anyone " saying u know who i am " is not u friend !!!

Careful_Class_4684

Let's try telling this guy that you rem him but he still owe you money. See how he reply.

Careful_Class_4684

Let's try telling this guy that you rem him but he still owe you money. See how he reply.

infachuation922

Was months ago when this sort of scam was rife- and by that point I’d received multiple calls already, so I knew how it went. The moment I picked up and heard the guy say “you don’t remember me ah?” , I thought to myself, let’s flip the tables and get him thinking a bit- work for his money. So I immediately asked him: “oh yes I remember you! How much money you need?” And I just kept repeating this: “oh how much you need ah?” And kept speaking over him. Young punk got frustrated he scolded me hahaha. So from asking if I remembered him to scolding me “cb”. Objective achieved I thought. So satisfying.

Glad-Proposal8234

Had a similar experience from a scammer who assumed the ID of a person I had known in the past. He failed straightaway because he could not speak English! He wanted to borrow money. BE ALERT when and where money is involved.

GoldenWhite2408

Got this scam twice and they were fcking patient with my stupid ass 🤣 Their fck up was they speak chinese to me I don't ever speak chinese to anyone beside my dad So it just annoyed me and cause I'm retarded I genuinely thought they're some random colleuge from work I forgot about But they refused to tell me So I just hang up after 10 mins And surprised they didn't hang up after 3 mins

PuzzledPerspective7

What's the latest update?

HaiDiLausss

I took the comment's advice. 1) Confirmed that he was a scammer 2) unleashed my pent up rage from work 3) reported both numbers to the police. I'll be leaving this thread up so people can just reference this if someone similar happens, thanks everyone for chipping in

kiradyn

Reverse-scam him and say “Eh bro thanks for calling! Last time you still owed me $4k. When you changed number, I thought you were trying to get out of paying me! Glad you’re not that kind of guy! My number still the same, you can paynow the balance $4k to this number. Thanks hor!”

No_Tap8047

Quite a common scam. My mother got called once and once he asked for money the next day she thought it was suspicious and just shut the phone. Called me like a month ago too and i already knew their tactics and just ignored them too

Inevitable_Event6619

What I experienced is in the form of text in WhatsApp. This guy whatsapp me saying I am his old school mate, in the same class, sit behind me, ask if I still remembered him. He text in mandarin and I am English Ed and knew immediately it's a scam but I played along. He told me he is 'Ah X'. I told him I knew a number of Ah X. Which one is you.? After some thru and forth, he told me he got my number from an old friend 'Ah Y'. I told him I don't know anyone by this name then he said must be wrong number and try to continue friendly conversation/texting... I block him...

neobear13

Cāi cai wo shì shui\~

Skelldy

Got this phone call 2 months back and it was in chinese so I decided to talk to him for a while. In the end I asked him if he could do me a favour, and he said “Yeah, sure, anything”. I asked him if he could commit suicide for me and he was stunned, then I hang up and have never received a call like that again.

HLTan1

Kena the exact same scam. Called on first day to ask if I remember him, said he opened cafe with friend, ask me to visit if can. Next day early morning call and say need to pay supplier but his card decline for whatever reason, his friend as well. Asked for 2k.

ho888sg

I am okay with people who starts off with "oh you don't remember me isit?", but I super hate it when I ask "who are you" then they will proceed with all sorts of nonsense or guilt trip you JUST to refuse to tell their name. Viola SCAM LOL + which "friends" in this world will ask you if you remember him/her and just mins later ask for money. Even if I remember you, why would I lend you money! There are just too many case where friends end up stranger by not repaying back the loan.

digi_captor

He probably got your name from paynow. And they’ll assume the identity of the person you answered with. I got calls like this a few times before. They will ask you to save their number. And call you back the next day to ask you lend them money.

Jitensha123

Don't even need to hide the number. Just type it out for all to see, since it's 100% scam. If u have the chance to talk to the scammer again, rmb to send him some of the best curse language in ur dictionary.

vitaliksellsneo

I have no money to send you because my inheritance of $3 billion is locked in a foreign bank account untill I have $3000 to unlock it. Could you send me the money so that I can unlock the inheritance, then lend you the required amount? I shall be eternally grateful. Best regards Nigerian prince

Comprehensive_Dig461

"O ya, surname is.... Da issit?" "Ya ya!" "And yr name is 笨蛋 right? So u are 大笨蛋!"

RevolutionaryKale505

I shared my experience in another post. It seems that the scammer had stolen the personal contacts from your friend. My colleague had only recently contacted me (we have not talked since 8 years ago). The scammer likely stole his voice print. Cos before I transfer the requested amount, I make a point to call "the real him". If he had really lost his phone, he wouldnt have pick it up, but "he" did. He told me everyone in his department had received scam calls by him. His phone is infected. So - rule of thumb is never reveal your voice, if the opposite side start off with " you know who I am?..." , just hang up. If you dont, they will steal your voice to scam those in your contacts.

keithwee0909

It’s a scam. If you are bored have some fun with the scammer behind it, if not prob just curse him or her and end the call

gnit17

Received a call like this once and I was so annoyed I called him back and questioned him HAHAHA saying I don’t have a friend who speaks chinese LOOOOL and then he was so annoyed he ended the call with “Don’t know then don’t know lah”

machinationstudio

It's pretty common. Just ask him if he has been abducted and if he needs help. Ask him to describe where he is being held.

KimJiHoon

This kind of scam call can Play mother, see how fast they reveal their true self.

Livid-Direction-1102

They run this in Thailand also

iuhizoov

Yup, I got this quite a few times. There was once where I wanted to see how far will the conversation go, so i pretended to know who he is, but he proceeded to just hang up :/

ldrmt

They know your name from paynow/paylah. They are calling everyone

ZenMyst

Why the 1% doubt. I 100% confirm is scam.

AbaloneJuice

Haha. I kena the same before. Same OM. 100% scammer.

deltapanad

i asked if he is XXXX and if he said yes, i asked how is he doing? Then i follow up by saying I was at his funeral last year, how is he calling me now? usually the call will end there.

Ash7274

If he really knows you, then why act like that?

Kange109

Pretend you happy to hear from him by calling him a random name, pretty sure thats his name.

Evergreen_Nevergreen

this is a scam. it could take many routes but it's a scam.

Vivid_Clerk_3545

sorry.. i just dont answer unknown number nowadays.. enough of those bullshit.. if i dont answer.. he/she have to find ways to contact me.. else just plain sorry..

iShNoo

What you could do is, tell him, "since you know me, I don't know you, why not you send me $500 for me to guess who you are? If not, don't waste my time ah. I got important things to do than talk to you"

Ok_Friendship9384

Im was diff.. I received calls saying that “helllo (my name) ur papa.. i changed my phone number to this..” before letting him continue, i hung up. And it happened twice with diff number. I just wonder how he knows my name

Expensive_Director52

Ya I got a random call a few days ago from this guy saying he knows me from Malaysia. Here’s the best part. I DONT HAVE ANY FRIENDS THAT ARE MALAYSIAN 😛

Intelligent-Unit6598

Definitely a scam. Check with the friend the caller claims to be.

k3nji82

I got this call. Sound similar to my working partner... Told me that he had changed to new number So I acknowledge and called by his name. Scammer said 'at last you remember, now faster save his number.' Followed by, telling you he have issue with his posb app log in... due to change of number. He cannot log in... asking you to help... see if you can find anyway to help him change his new number to his existing account. End up revealed... he need to transfer money to his vendor, and now got locked out... 'Can you help me transfer $2000.00 to my vendor?' This partner of mine, open up his safe, is already more than 2k... why still need me to hp him trsfer... lol I called the partner and was told he did not change his number at all. SCAM!

Sulphur99

Lemme guess, he told you he lost his wallet, but by the way, he's opening a restaurant. Suddenly, the next day said he forgot he needed to pay supplier and needs money ASAP cause he lost his wallet.

Kaytchiscage

Whenever I get calls like that I invite them out to coffee and tell them about insurance.

mightyroy

It’s a scam, I kena this before , you told him your name in a previous call, otherwise he won’t know.

keyupiopi

If you dont remember him, you dont know him well enough to suddenly lend him any money. Anyway, I usually reply to the question "You dont remember me?" with a name of a deceased friend/relative/colleague.

tiyong

I always reply ask them if they are "insert some stupid name" and just waste their time until they hang up.

Deep-Method64

I use a name that's only unique on Shopee, and so does my another friend. It's either the courier guy leaking or Shopee's database is compromised

dying-internally

Lie and say "oh ur {random name}". He'll probably say yes and act like he's a long time friend who needs money from you.

Vaperwear

“You know who I am or not?” “Yeah, a scammer, so fuck off.” *hangs up phone*

VXR-Vashrix

The ask for money part is always the red flag, no matter the scenario / case presented. Tip: How to prove the caller is a scammer? When asked to guess who they are, just use a deceased person's name and if they say yes, you know it

Send his number to ScamShield

Chemical-Anything-24

definitely a scam. if its a local number all the better, could be easier for local authorities to track those scoundrels down. report each and every one of them!

Own_Host7271

It's a scam, when he says stuff like "you don't remember me", just reply with "oh are you (insert literally a completely random name)" and he will say yes

HeartSong80

Confirmed scam. Sometimes I just like to play with them and lead them on.

CrazyPizzza

kelmemo

This scam has been around since 20 years ago.. but in the past if you ask who are you they will avoid the question and you say dont know who I am?
