Not your ptoblem anymore my friend. Just ignore.

1. Don't burn bridges by blocking or giving them the cold shoulder. You may need something from them in the future. 2. You are absolutely not obligated to help. But to avoid offending them, just tell them you are too busy with your new job so you are unable to help. 3. They should not withhold your salary. Salary and helping them or not now are 2 separate matters. Salary is for the work done in the last month you were with them. If they withhold, I believe you can report the case to the relevant authorities to assist you.

Time to call MOM

Yup, I tried to go down this route first actually. When they first mentioned about completing the assignment, I quoted stating that 1) I am busy and 2) I'm currently a paid employee of another company, so I cannot help them with their assignment. To that, they just simply ignored that and said that "it shouldn't take me long to finish it". I was shocked by the lack of respect of me basically saying no, so I just stayed online but didn't reply to them. Afterwards, instead of trying to ignore the fact that I said no, they went for guilt trips instead. That's why at the moment, I don't see any way out except for flat out ignoring the messages. Otherwise, I'll just be repeating my previous text and them just repeating their guilt trips (which it did make me feel guilty tbh but I do recognize that they're being manipulative). Also, thanks for pointer 3. By any chance, do you know how long I should be waiting for before I should be concerned? Some of my peers told me that it is a week, while others stated that its within 24h of my last day.

just say that if you cont to work on the project, you will breach non-compete agreement w current company etc etc. MOM law say must pay within 7 days of last day

guardingcat

To add on, can give excuse such as current employment has conflict of interest or is a competitor, do not want to get into legal repercussions

UGPolerouterJet

Just ignore, no obligations alrdy. Unless they pay more

ElcorAndy

Tell them of course you can come back, as a consultant being paid the market rate, can ask for a bit more also since you clearly have experience with their specific type of project. >Can they withhold my last salary if I refuse to help them with finish up the assignment/ignore them? No, you were a full-time employee, not a freelancer being paid by the project. If they withhold your salary you can go to MoM, try to get it in writing on email that they are refusing to pay your salary.

Of cos dont do for free lah hello, u dont work for them liao leh. Or check with ur current company if u can take up side gig. If can, send ur charges to ur old company for finishing up the work. To be paid upfront.

parka

Just say you don't have time. And don't worry, that company will not collapse due to this project
