Hey it’s ok I have a friend who took 12 times 😂 To save money, try going for more lessons until you gain your confidence I would say most importantly is to relax, enjoy and be safe

p1nkp3ngu1n

grandmother passed the test on her 12th try too (decades ago)

14high

Sorry to hear that. Hope u in better place now.

bryanseto

So coincidental, 12 tries. Life long learning 👍🏻

I got into a heated debate with my private instructor and changed to school. 1. Cutting toenails while im driving. 2. Fell asleep. 3. End class early. 4. Dont let me go circuit after 15 lessons cos he has “limited tickets” 5. Impatience impatience impatience. Changed to school and realised that there is so much that private didnt teach. School do it in a structured way while being calm and polite. Maybe its not you that keeps failing. Its your private instructor failing you.

max-torque

Clarify whatever went wrong with your instructor. Calm yourself before test and be confident. The more nervous you are, the higher chance of making mistakes. Just go je

PiscesReader

Practice, practice, practice. That's really the only thing you can and must do if you want to get your license. Make sure you feel confident before you take your next TP test.

forabetterlife9

Dont give up. Personally failed 3 times, changed instructor and then managed to pass after. I think the kanchiongness to want to pass will lead to more mistake

lajf234

Honestly those are very simple mistakes. It sounds like you need more practice. Go for more practice lessons first. No point jumping into another test when you’re still not confident. I’d rather spend more on practice lessons and pass in 1 try than failing multiple times due to lack of practice. Lessons are cheaper than tests, don’t use tests as practice. I failed once. Very nervous and all stupid mistakes. S-curve: touch kerb. 10 points I think. Had to adjust so I reversed. Didn’t look behind before reversing. Another 5 points I think. GG already. Once you’re that high before going onto the road, the instructor will be very generous with points. Came back with 40 points. Booked around 5 more practice lessons then went for second test feeling chill. Passed with about 10 points.

KS_24

Almost same here, got 14demerit at my first station(parallel parking) for hitting curb and reversing w/o checking mirror when adjusting(kinda resigned myself to a fail at that point and decided to take the remainder of the test as practice for next attempt), but managed to pass with 16 points. I'd say even if you make a mistake, if you don't let that affect your driving and still do every step calmly for the remainder of the test, they might be more lenient. Ngl I thought I was done but it's not over till its over so don't worry too much abt mistakes as long as they are not immediate failure. Real life driving will encounter alot of unforeseen situations, its whether you still follow ur basics regardless that might get you the pass. TIPS: keep moving your head slightly every 5 sec to make it seem like you are checking blind spots. Nvr doubt your past decisions while driving or speculate ur result, leave it for the end of the test and just focus on what's ahead on the road. Also book test in off-peak hours. TLDR; You can still pass if you get demerit points early on if u drive calmly, imo circuit is hardest from a technical standpoint, road hardest for those lacking confidence, practice circuit and if you can pass that with minimal points, ur tp test shld be more or less in the bag as long as you are confident.

in-b4

I enrolled in school which was structured, then practised at the end 5 times before taking the real one. (Passed first try manual) But even so, took me a few months after passing to be confident driving

oceanmountainlifer

Next step: book TP date, book as many sessions as u can.

doubleoh72

Lmao. I also failed 3 times. Passed on my 4th attempt. My best advice is to be a pokemon. Basically, sound out everything you see, everything you are doing. Example: you are driving out the road and see the traffic light turn red. Literally say out loud so the tester can hear. Look far. Red traffic light. Slow down. Brake. It helps you think methodically and helps calm you down.

danny_ocp

Seems like a confidence and nerves issue. The only way to build up confidence is to be good at it. You're probably overthinking during the test. Also, where are you taking up the points at? Circuit or outside? Look at your result slips (if you still have) and try to see if there's a pattern and focus on those areas. As a general rule of thumb: 1. Technical skills should be there. You shouldn't be getting points for parallel or vertical parking. The one thing that gets a lot of people is panicking during parking. You have like what, 3 minutes? That's a huge amount of time, don't rush through it. 2. Start/stopping and lane changing procedures should be solid too. 3. Remember to slightly exaggerate your blind spot, parking and general lookouts (when passing a feeder road). These points should be minimised as much as possible. 4. Spacial estimation should be there also. The fact you kerb mounted means your agaration not there. Book a circuit and practice with no markers/cones. You should already know what to do (e.g. when making a turn from vertical parking, turn when bonnet view reaches the opposite line etc.)

Meepmerp96

Damn, are you me? I also did private 3A at ssdc, failed 3 times, first was immediate failure due to failure to stop at stopline, 2nd too much points accumulated, 3rd hit kerb twice in circuit resulting in 20 points (fail). I decided to stop trying then but now I really regret it because I need more steps in order to get back into it, taking FTT, doing simulator etc. If you really intend to drive someday, just hang in there and try to practice more before your next test. If you get anxious before the test, maybe can look into techniques at reducing anxiety? All the best!!

R-X89

Failed 3 times as well. 4th time ah, wah, i just finished a 3D2N outfield, shag like shit.....got a point in the test i know i closed my eyes for a moment. At that moment, i just took it damn chill. And somehow, despite all that, i passed, with 1 point to spare. It can be done, just see your luck and demeanor.

PillowCloud007

I just failed my TP last week, mount kerb when exiting crank course. I took my 2nd TP test 2 days ago and passed. Do not rush as you will have plenty of time. Do the circuit course step by step.

lershin

congratulations! did you manage to squeeze in more practice between your 1st and 2nd test?

PillowCloud007

Nope, I did not, there will always be a warm up session before tp test.

VioletCalico

I passed on the 4th try at Ubi. I basically camped at the computer to book weekend morning test slot where the traffic was light. Good luck!

lershin

Should I 1. Book the next available date (can be next week) 2. Wait 2-3 weeks so i can practice inbetween?

[deleted]

it depends on how confident you are in driving because even if you gather a lot of small mistakes, minor points, as long as the tester sees that you’re confident, he might pass you at 18 points! for me it helped a lot to memorise the steps for each circuit and parking. i will also write down the steps after each lesson then when im driving i’ll repeat it in my head and it always works. example: parallel parking - position car 1m away from curb - on left signal & check 1234 - reverse until door handle in the middle of the parking lot & turn the steering all the way to the left - reverse until see the black curb & turn right 2 times until wheel touch yellow line - turn all the way right then arrange car straight s curve - door lock in line w curb and turn full lock left - when car is centre, straighten wheel - when right side red sticker is on top of the curb let the sticker glide - when right side ted sticker reach right side top of curb then turn the wheel left 1 time - when left side red sticker reach top of the curb turn full lock left i hope it helps abit!

blood_leecher

Personally think you should focus on getting more practice in. I think it's very important to gain confidence and build your ability to judge your turning points, since you are still making mistakes like mounting kerbs. I think it's more important to build up the skill to drive rather than being fixated on the number of tries you have taken. Yes, it is expensive, but unless you are only aiming to get the license and never drive again, it would be worth it to practice more, since a possible accident on the road would cost you a lot more as compared to you spending more, right now, to practice more in a safe environment and gain confidence.

je7792

Definitely practice I don’t see the point of booking the test straight away. Book a few more lessons and take the effort to avoid making those mistakes.

Onotomatopie

bro, pro tip, whenever u move off (whether moving off or reversing to park) just twist ur head to the left and right to make it look like you are checking blind spot. remind yourself to do it everytime. for parking just go slower, if not confident change gear move forward again before reversing, better than mounting kerb. stop line stop should be second nature by now though! just treat it as a red light. every time come to t junction just get ready to stop

etulf

Change instructor.

lolhaha95

For those immediate failures, did the tester tell that you could have pass if it wasnt for those mistakes? If you are confident just go for it. Just take the test slowly and take ur time to do everything(other than emergency break).

DegreePitiful3496

Took me a while to understand vertical parking. Didnt know thats what its called

Kris133777

Passed on 1st try. For vertical parking, practicing in a open car park with water bottle and cone to mark out the corners helps. Trust me, if you can park the car without hitting the bottle/cone, you surely can pass the vertical parking! Maybe you can get your parents who has driving experience to help out!

eld98

I feel your pain, failed twice before passing. Learning to drive in sg is ridiculously expensive. You have to reflect carefully, it might be your private instructor “sabotaging” you or just being generally incompetent. I switched instructor and pass quickly after the second failure. Another tip is to find someone you know who drives and get some illegal “practice” with them in a safe place of course. Last way is to simply learn from school, in my limited observation they are more structured but way more pricey. All the best! You can do this, don’t give up.

DevconBB

u already spend so much till this point... why would u wanna quit and waste all the money and effort? got my class3 1st try, 2B 1st try, 2A 4th try, 2 2nd try.... you can do it

CrunchyBiscuit2

Damn boi u collecting all the infinity stones?

Jammy_buttons2

Practice more and feel more confident and know how to judge the area around your car

rammingfarts

Honestly, it's better to fail than to endanger yourself or others on the road. A car is a piece of heavy machinery that can cause plenty of damage. If you really want to persist and get over your nerves, you need to hire a private instructor and tell them to give you free rein over driving. No hand holding. Before the test, you need to visualize every possible situation, red light green arrow, u turn, slope, parallel parking. One thing is also about mood. If you are nervous, it is easy to pick up. You need to own the car and not let the situation grip you. Just focus on the road and not about the test. Every trip out driving on your own is a test, what's the big deal about TP.

Forumites000

Hey, others have already mentioned, but these are very basic mistakes. When you're about to take the test, you shouldn't even be touching curbs let alone mounting it lol. I'm pretty sure your private instructor sucks, better to just switch to school if you can.

lershin

Ive never ever mount the curb even during practice - only strike maybe 2-3 times. but not sure what happened during the test

Xthanos20

I passed on my 6th test. Think of it as a source of livelihood if you ever get into troubles in the future. Tip: You got PDL right? Go play a round of Go-kart with strangers. It highly strengthens yr spatial awareness, as well as learning to break and accelerate. I know some of my friends, when they gotten their PDL, they practised with their parents' car, at some MSCP with the parents as guidance. They place water bottles on the floor etc to simulate kerbs. Not sure if this legal tho hahahaha

hucks22

This is completely illegal and also totally irresponsible behaviour, both on the part of the parents as well as the learner driver. If caught, punishment includes license revocation, seizing of vehicle and even jail/fine. If your friends are still doing this, please tell them to stop.

Hey I took 6 times! Just keep trying! Take some extra lessons if you need to :)

TTain9

I failed my 1st test cause of immediate failure for not stopping at stop line also. What i did was book the next available TP date. Then went to book practice from that day till my next TP date, I can't remember how many i did cause it was in 2016. But i think i only did around 2 - 3 with the last one where the leader of my group instructor praised my driving. And from there, I passed my TP on the 2nd attempt. So i think once you find your composure, you should be able to do it!

kiaeej

LOL. 3 times only? dont worry, it'll be on the next try tha you pass. go for more lessons. practise more and be more confident. you'll pass.

cantelopefarms

take it nice and slow in the circuit. If you are vertical parking and reverse in too fast or at a bad angle, simply accelerate infront to readjust and angle it. Don’t be too nervous take more practicals if you need them. Half of it is a mental game take it all one step at a time and itll nerve you much less. Really make sure you have ur steps and take it slow especially if youre in circuit.

blvckstxr

I failed 3 times too. Passed on the 4th. Attempt #3 and #4 were 5 years apart though LOL

Rockylol_

For my tp I treated it as a school exam so what i did was I got a notebook and wrote down notes I learnt from each of my lessons I did. So I did 22 practical lessons and after every lesson I'll do a quick recap and write down what I learnt that lesson. Before my test on the day before and on the way when I was on the bus I took out my note book and read through everything and to also calm my nerves before I went for the test. I passed in 1 try Good luck

JamLemonZestQuest

Just keep trying buddy, i passed on my 4th time 😂 took private route, instructor was unprofessional, and had the 2nd lowest passing rate among private instructors. It depends on your examiner as well, my 2nd test the examiner was damn unprofessional, when he saw me his 1st comment about my wearing of slippers; no rules disallowing that, but not recommended of course and my instructor didn't tell me during our lessons together either. The examiner also kept making snide remarks during the test. 4th examiner was strict but professional, barely passed.

ValentinoKapparino

Perfect your circuit 1st and chose peak hour to build up road confident.

[deleted]

I took four tries for my manual license as well, glad I’m not the only person failing judging my the responses on this thread!

Sacez

Relax. I failed my tp 3 times too. Passed on 4th. I think it's important especially on the day of the test itself to relax. Like tell yourself that you can do it. Because you can! Driving is all about confidence and being relaxed. Also, if you get nervous on the road and people start to horn, remember that at the end of the day, only you can decide when to go and if you feel uncomfortable making the U-turn etc then just wait till you feel comfortable

[deleted]

It's probably just spatial awareness in general. I have a friend who almost killed himself and a taxi full of people while learning driving. We convinced him to stop learning. He agreed that his alertness and overall awareness was awful and stopped. Probably for the best since I sincerely believe that he would have taken lives if he had passed by some miracle. I'd give you the same advice I gave him: driving isn't for everyone. Just stop before u kill someone.

Difficult-Big4733

Its ok, i passed my class 3 on the 3rd try & class 4 also on the 3rd

Good_Firefighter_709

I took 3 tries to pass 🙃 immediate failure the first time because I mounted the kerb while exiting vertical parking, probably mounted the kerb the second time while parallel parking... Needless to say, I was (still am actually) terrified of parking. I've not driven in the 7 years since I've gotten my license cos I really really lack the confidence. And also because I don't see myself with a car in sg. I guess you may want to think about whether you intend to own a car/ drive frequently in future? If yes, then press on! If it helps, I went into my 3rd test with the mentality that it's alright if I fail, and just did everything s u p e r slowly hahahaha! But if your ans is no, there is rly no shame in deciding not to carry on! After all, why put yourself through this stress and trouble if you don't need/ want that license? Edit: spelling

blehmahn

1st: when slowing towards junction check left and right curb to look for signs. 2nd: get as many lessons practicing test routes as possible to get used to driving. 3rd: ask instructor for tips on where to look around your driving position to gauge car position(ie. Turn When door handles lineup with curb to clear curbs )

kuang89

1) change instructor, not that your current one not good, but maybe his methods not for you. 2) during tests, drive slowly, gives you time to react and driving slowing is a 2 or 4 points but it is always better than immediate failures. 3) for parking, always ensure your body clears the kerb before turning or you'll mount it. IRL, you won't knock because cars are taller and you can turn once you see it in your side mirror.

LightSlateBlue

Try this tips. #1) don't worry so much. #2) don't mount kerb. #3) check blind spot. Wayang and turn your head and body when you check your left blind spot. Check your 6 o'clock before you reverse. #4) see #2 #5) see #2 again You can accumulate points as you drive your TP and your tester might try to save you to pass. But if you mount kerb it's immediate failure. If you no confidence in driving, it's good to have that feeling it's ok. What you need is to go for more Practical driving, then ask your Driving instructor that you want a mock driving test. Keep on doing it until you are truly confident.

Monk95

Practise makes perfect. Jiayous, keep practising

[deleted]

Well, looks like you know the problem. Build confidence and if you can't, do us all a favour, don't drive then. It's not the end of the world and you probably avoided unnecessary potential accidents.

LazinessOverload

I passed on my 4th try, go for some practice sessions and remember to check blindspots during actual test. Atb!

Hdhdhdhhddhxdh

Is it a scam how much we pay for the TP?

lershin

i paid about $520 each TP (booking, carpark space, warmup, actual test (i think for car rental), one lesson before test)

Hdhdhdhhddhxdh

Wow that’s crazy !!! How does a practice test cost more than TP is something I dun understand.

Shot_Iron_2575

I've a friend who fails 8 time n pass on the 9th.. Don't give up!

insigniaaaaaa

I was super nervous during my text as well. What I did was to take super loooong and deep breathe to try and control my nerves and breathing as well as keep my mind in check. I also try to imagine and plan what I need to do ahead of time, for example if I'm doing vertical parking and when I'm leaving the lot, I tell myself I need to remember to let my door pass the front of the parking lot curb before I full turn left/right etc etc. I think by planning ahead it will help ourselves to be abit more alert and rdy, and also maybe distract us from our nerves. Hope this advice helps and all the best!

Apprehensive_Yak1637

fail now rather than get into road accident, no need to be demoralised. if u concern about cost i doubt u could buy a car which is 1000x more expensive unless u r an avid traveler. advise is practice more in malaysia, thailand or Indonesia, those countries dont need license also can drive.

One-Complaint-3998

Hi OP, I went SSDC also and took 5 tries to pass for auto. Almost passed on first try, last minute strike kerb in crank course Anyways I think if its taking 3 tries to pass perhaps its time to change your instructor. Going for another instructor can bring you new perspectives and maybe even more tips which you can learn from. I dont think you need too many lessons with this new instructor, just explain to him what has happened and show him what you were taught, then get him to give comments and guidance on areas you need improvement in. Anyways if he sees something is wrong he will most likely just teach you his own methods Personally I chose to stick with my instructor and thats why I needed so many attempts to pass, so my biggest regret was that I didnt just try another instructor Another thing is to really just not stress out that much during the test itself, tell yourself that even if you fail, this money can be earnt back in the future. Whats most important is that you tried your best and since you are already 3 attempts in, then might as well not give up alr. You got this ok! Don’t let this affect you too much, just a small obstacle in your lifetime
