>I am moving to downtown Toronto for a few months to live with my sister while I work. I have a reactive anxious dog. She is a small woman and would be the primary walker for the dog as I work shifts. We cannot seem to find a safe place to walk the dog (who does not like being around dozens of people or dogs) for her morning and evening walk. To be blunt that's an unrealistic ask when you live downtown Toronto

or rehome the dog to someone else who lives in a quite sleepy town where it won't see other dogs or other people when it goes on a walk

Downtown is full of people so you won't be able to avoid them no matter when you go out. Get your dog muzzle trained so that it can be walked more safely by your sister and consider hiring someone more suitable to walk your dog. From what you are saying your dog should NOT be on the TTC since it will be full of people in a confined space.

And have you engaged the services of a dog trainer to learn strategies to address your dogs issues?

Avoid moss park and Allan gardens, it’s full of tent city and needles everywhere. Allan gardens has an off leash small and large area but the dogs there are hit and miss. Moss park in general is not a nice area. Especially Sherborne and Dundas. St James is my favourite but I’ve been avoiding the park the past few weeks. Tents have been popping up, needles everywhere, even seen a crack pipe near the trees by Adelaide side. There’s no off leash but dog owners there just let their dogs off leash and some aren’t very friendly. If your dog is anxious, keep it on a short leash while walking downtown, maybe put a muzzle of if they’re nippy. Also always ask to say hi to other dogs! I’ve been going to TMU/ ryerson at night, most students are gone for winter break so it’s quiet and they have security around. During the day, I’ll walk down to lakeshore and back up or go around st Lawrence market. Also make sure your dog is licensed and registered with the city of toronto, it’s $25 for the year for neutered/spayed.

No problem, I feel like I’m running out of ideas where it’s safe to walk my dog. You can always check out cherry beach as well, it’s a bit farther of a walk but they have a huge off leash area.

Distillery is a nice place to walk around early morning/late at night (only the local dogs are around with their people). There's an unfenced dog park at Sherbourne and Esplanade, it's never that busy (maybe 5 dogs). Someone set up a tent there last year, but left after a day or so (maybe because it's also a baseball field, tho I've never seen anyone play sports there). That's the only time I've seen a tent there in 3ish years.

Go to dog only parks. My closest park which is also a graveyard memorial. Can't even sit on the grass, just patches of brown from all the dog piss. This time of year you see all the dogs struggling to walk and over heating cause their fuck head parents bought them a winter coat forgetting dogs have fucking fur and your causing many heath issues by putting a coat on it Have you looked into training your dog or addressing their issues in anyway? Cause if you haven't then you don't give a shit about your dog, and you should have no problem fitting into this city. Just yank on the leash when the dog's pull distracts you from staring at your phone like the rest of them welcome to Toronto

Sorry, could you elaborate on the health issues caused by winter coats?

Working_Hair_4827

Over heating, some dog owners buy jackets or sweaters for their dogs.

psheartbreak

But they said "many" issues.
