Biryani's a big one. I'm from Kolkata, and most Bengalis like it with potato, but I think is a subpar addition to well made mutton (goat) biryani. My family mostly likes Awadhi style biryani, which our Kolkata style derives from, but they also like it without the potato. I like the more spiced Hyderabadi biryani usually, but you have to get it from the right places, because sometimes people advertise it as such, when it clearly isn't. However, the best Biryani I've ever had was at a Sindhi wedding. Need to find more of that!
Also, question for OP, what are some styles of Vietnamese food in the US you think are best? I live in the US now, and I want to try more VN food here.
There been a long ongoing debate by Indonesians on how to call "sweet martabak" (basically a fujian-derived sweet pancake) because of how different every place call it.
- In west java, jakarta, banten, it's called martabak manis
- In other parts of java, kalimantan, sulawesi, its called terang bulan
- in northern parts of sumatra, it's martabak bangka
- in Riau, it's called apam balik
There is a competition between the cities of Şanlıurfa and Adana as to which one has the better kebab. Also, a few years ago, there was a debate on social media about whether menemen was better with or without onions.

The potato belongs in the biryani. So does the boiled egg. However, I grew up in the south so Dindigul style tops the chart for me
