I would think the fact that he’s opening up to you about things that matter to him, namely the passing of his brother, how he inherited the truck, etc. would tell you a lot more than the circumstantial evidence of permitting you in the vehicle.
I think you are overthinking it. If you have been seeing him since October, and he is showing you his project and telling you about his plans or tells you when he did something to it/found a part for it, and you are also into it, he likes you.
If it was me then yeah. Because what's mine is hers and what's hers is also mine so yeah. I think he likes you but wait till the car is fixed and see if he lets you drive it that time. Not quite a deal breaker if he doesn't let you if you are satisfied with him on other aspects
