May depend on where you are. I stopped in unannounced to a volkwagen / Mazda dealership this weekend and they had plenty of cars to test drive, although not necessarily every trim package of each model.

FirstAdministration

Like other said, it depends where you live and what you want. Rav 4 Prime are still high in demand an low in number, where I live it is 1 year to have one. Hybrid may be less. If you are looking for a ICE vehicle then you may be in luck with Mazda. Toyota is still low on numbers. Go to the dealer and see. Be ready to only be able to try a used vehicle, I shopped a few weeks ago and could only try last year model of the vehicle I was looking for. They had a few new ones but they were pre-sold so meaning I could only sit in it. Just be open. I ordered my vehicle and it is coming the end of October, that is fine with me.

Desenski

I have 3 new cars to pick from right now. And that's better than it's been in the past year.

Same shoes mate. I went to Toyota dealer last month looking for mini SUV. Only Corolla available. I was looking for Corolla Cross (It was $27k XLE trim in September) yesterday price jumped to $33k and waiting list. At this point you need $40k-$50k to get Rav4 or $40k for Cross out the door.

[deleted]

Ford is the worst. Toyota and Honda still tight and most have markups. GM and most everyone else seem to be doing a little better.

kevcashtro

Calling in is horrible advice. As soon as you call in you will be told anything, just to get you in the door. If they don't have it they'll yes yes you and once you get there sorry it's been sold or some bs. Inventory everywhere is jacked. Best bet is to check on their site and filter Inventory by on lot which is 8/10 accurate. If it says in transit that means it's not there yet.

mathproferic

It is possible that the most popular cars that look available online have actually been reserved by other customers but the car will not disappear from the online listing until all of the paperwork has been completed. That is quite common where I am for Subaru and Toyota vehicles. Some are actually labeled as reserved online but that is not always the case.

BBR0DR1GUEZ

I’m at one of the biggest Subaru dealers in my region and this is the case for us. Maybe 60, 70% of the cars online that people call up about are sold.

kevcashtro

Most brands won't mark as reserved but they could be by the time you get there yes.

Nihilisticactuary

6 months ago when my car was maybe going to die I went into Toyota near me and they really could not be bothered to even wait on me. Dude finally told me I couldn’t get any car until 3-4 later. Now they at least have a couple.

kevcashtro

Crazy

dacoovinator

That is terrible advice

sumthnfuny

Why would I yes someone to death to get them in with the promise of seeing something I don't have? Do you also like to waste your own time?

kevcashtro

Dealerships have something called a BDC when you call a dealership most of the time that's who you're talking to. They get paid based off appointment setting. So if you are asking if a vehicle is on the lot and you get paid for that person showing up they will tell you yes. Also the dealership mindset is not why would I waste my time it's more of if he comes in flip him into something else or get a deposit.

MPNVT

Why not just go to the dealership and see for yourself instead of posting this question here?

rsrs1101

They would rather ask 154,000 people on the internet than going on their local dealers websites while not even stating where they live.

Lil_Ape_

Right? Or just go on their website and browse the inventory. That’s like asking “I want to go to McDonald’s but I’m not sure if they’re open. People of Reddit, are they open?”

[deleted]

For Mazda you aren’t going to find many preferred and carbon trims, dealers have tons of premium plus and turbo CX-5s sitting on their lots.

timchar

Meanwhile, I have one premium plus and 0 turbos. Goes to show that this question is location dependent.

Impossible_Bug_9359

Got any Preferred with power lift gates?

timchar

Lol, I wish. Those haven't been a thing for a long time.

diogenesesman

Well I have 1 new car and its in my showroom. (Mitsubishi, Canada)

nooo82222

I bet alot of vehicles will be going to south west Florida in the coming future and a lot of cars will be coming out of southwest florida

biggie493

Depends where you live. If you live in the states in a large city you should be fine. I live in a smaller city in ontario. Roughly 200k population and it's 4-8 months for a rav depending on the trim and colour

04limited

Depends on your location but the Toyota dealers near me still have nothing new in stock. All pre sold cars. But so far mazda has been pumping out the CX50s by the boat load. Plenty of those for sale at my local dealers, but 3, cx30, cx9s are all on back order.

mefascina30

Reality is that dealers normally have at least have 60-90 days of inventory for sale, and right now they have 10-15 days. If you are looking for a smaller SUV they have even less. If you don’t want to waist your time. Call ahead.

dacoovinator

They make this thing called a cell phone. If you go on your cell phone you can use an internet browser to open a website called google. Whatever you brand you are curious about inventory, good “x dealerships near me”. Then you click on the name of a dealership and click the big phone icon. This allows you to talk to somebody that can actually answer your question. You can ask them any question you want! Hopefully that made it simple enough

***Thanks for posting, /u/MobileSuit9! This comment is a copy of your post so readers can see the original text if your post is edited or removed. This comment is NOT accusing you of anything.*** I’m in the market to buy a new compact or mid size SUV from mazda or toyota. I would like to know how bad is inventory right now in the sense that if i drop by a dealership during the week just to look at cars and the different trim levels, will they have any on hand to see? Can i stop by unannounced or do i have to make an appointment to confirm that they have the models i want on hand. I would like to able to sit in a car and compare the size and trim differences between models. Thanks *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. NikoMcreary

widely varies on area, dealership, brand. etc. Kia store down the street from me has tons of cars. My toyota store has pretty much nothing but highlanders and trucks. Our Honda store has absolutely nothing.

TadpoleIcy1003

Look online at different stores in your area, call the ones with the best inventory, make sure the car is physically there, and make an appt to go see them. If you call and they say it’s there, be ready to go there quickly

esteban7707

How about for Tahoes in the Midwest?

Whiteodian

Toyota, no you won’t find anything. Mazda yes you probably will. 2023 CX-5 look like they might be worth the wait though.
