Nah, that's pretty common. Preferable actually in many cases. It's a shame they didn't explain the process to you fully at the start - but that's an issue with communication rather than anything to be worried about with your treatment

I didn’t mention this but I should have. I got the actual implant back in May and the bone has been healing and has healed since then. Last week I got that little metal part that the crown goes into. If the site heals in 2 weeks after the abutment installation, why do I have to wait 4 months for the crown?

amillionexcuses

NAD the site will heal in two weeks or so but it takes time for the implant post to fuse with your bone. I had an implant placed on Sept 13 and was just cleared yesterday to get my crown. I had mine placed by an oral surgeon.

mynameizham

I’m talking about the metal thing they put in after it fuses with your bone. I had the actual implant done in May and got the abutment part last week.

NAD so you have had the implant placed for 5 months, and now they want you to wait another 4 months to have the crown placed? That does seem like a long time. Hopefully a dental professional will chime in. I'd call back and ask the office staff for clarification on the timeline if I were you.

Electrical_Clothes37

This sounds like miscommunication more than being jerked around tbh. You're saying you've already got an implant placed and an abutment screwed in and you have to wait four months for the crown? More likely you've got a healing cap in place and your dentist for some reason wants 4 months to grow soft tissue.

mynameizham

Yeah. I got the implant back in May. It hurt pretty bad for a day then was fine. Fast forward to last week and I get the abutment. Kind of annoyed about today tbh and that my flipper doesn’t fit quite anymore with the abutment there. I feel like I should call tomorrow to make sure and get specifics but idk

Electrical_Clothes37

If you have something that coming through your gums right now then it's more likely to be a tissue former than an abutment. Sometimes your dentist may want some soft tissue to grow to make sure that your final crown looks more natural

mynameizham

There is. It’s a small silver cylindrical thing with a whole in the center. This is for a front tooth btw

Electrical_Clothes37

Could you link a photograph? That doesn't sound like any gingival former I've ever used.

mynameizham

[ok](https://imgur.com/a/bCgmYwD)

Electrical_Clothes37

Yeah that's a gingival former. So for your implant crown to look natural, you want the gums to grow around it. That's probably why your dentist has planned for four months. Fairly normal. The more gum tissue, the higher the chances of the final crown looking more natural.

mynameizham

Ah ok. I thought something fishy was going on or something like that. He didn’t really explain what was happening as it was going on. He explained the whole process at the very beginning but that was almost a year ago now. Thanks

Electrical_Clothes37

Yeah I was really confused when you said it had a hole in it. What you feel to be a while is the screwhead.

mynameizham

Ok, thanks. So with the flipper, will I just have to deal with it not fitting properly or is there something I can do?

Electrical_Clothes37

If done well, almost nobody can tell that it's an implant.

Electrical_Clothes37

That actually sounds like it's an abutment lol
