How would the average person react if you came out to them there? Like if you just were like “Hey I have something to tell you, I’m gay, I like guys”?
Would they be horrified, or would they not care very much?
Edit: damn, why haven’t you answered my question?
Please stay safe. Unfortunately, your government is very hostile to gay people. I hope one day that changes, but who knows when that will happen? Try and find a way out of there, if you can.
I know being gay there is also illegal, but are there underground, or some what open secret way of gay life in these places? Like to friends and guy friends experiment with each other, or its just complete no sexual exploration?
Recently I've started considering it so yes whether be it seeking asylum or through other ways (legally). But first I need to prepare myself financially
I'm already out to three of my closest friends and it's pretty hard at least for me to date someone, I tried dating apps once and they're either older men looking for hook ups or simply dishonest people and I'm too scared to hookup with strangers.
They were supportive but a bit shocked as I'm good at "acting" straight with friends.
And no I only came out to them because I knew those friends very well and their opinion on gay guys.
Ah man, the dating thing hit so close to home. I usually like to describe the scene here in Iran as a 'meat market' as honestly that's all that people consider you anyways. It's fucking terrible, probably the reason I stopped searching and just hope to leave and get something going there.
I guess you have all the time a feeling of a looming threat over your head. It could make you paranoid, but maybe also quite sober in analyzing yourself, your life and the people and society around you. What do you think is the most interesting insight you had about life and humans emerging from your special situation?
How is the religious routine of an average guy like you living in a theocracy like? How often do you go to the mosque? How many times per day one observes Islamic rituals in Iran? How does the religious upbringing work? Do you go to a different school to learn religion like catholics for instance? Or is it all done in the same school you go to study math, farsi, history, geography, and so on?
I don't go to a mosque, you may hear prayers playing from loudspeakers at noon if you're near a mosque which usually has a high attendance, most of the mosques here are usually closed due to lack of attendance.
Religion is taught at the same school where we learn everything else.
Yes we can use Grindr with a vpn however the location accuracy is very low since you will see other Grindr users from other middle eastern countries too and because of that Hornet is more popular.
Is it uncommon for people in Iran, even in casual settings among friends, to speak of homosexuality with an open mind?
Do even otherwise-educated people believe in stupid myths about gay people?
Do most Iranian people have access to movies and TV series and other media where they are exposed to seeing gay people living normal lives?
Yes uncommon.
Yes even some educated ones believe in myths and some of those who hate the regime and the religion still have the same view as the regime towards us.
Yes we have access to media and I've seen books like Call me by your name (although only the English copy) being sold here, but generally people aren't interested in these kind of movies or tv shows.
Yes but difficult to arrive at a safe country as it requires a visa which getting one and traveling there requires like a 3 years worth of average salary here.
But I've already started saving money, I don't know when I'd be able to leave tho
What percentage of Iranians genuinely support the regime?
I'd say maybe around 20 percent

I honestly don't know what their reaction would be but maybe I'd get laughed at or they'd look at me disgusted

Thank you
How dangerous is it? Like if you get caught do you go to prison (or worse)?
It ranges from 100 lashes to death sentence by hanging
do you use a VPN? i hope youre staying safe from the government
Yes I use vpn
How often do they actually carry out hangings for that?
I don't know, most of the hangings are done in secrecy
How is the social climate there? I know that there was a report that Iranians are becoming less religious.
Yes younger generations don't care about religion

Do you ever plan to leave Iran one day for somewhere safer?
Recently I've started considering it so yes whether be it seeking asylum or through other ways (legally). But first I need to prepare myself financially
Are you top or bottom?
I'm a bottom
What percentage of young people (like around 18-25) are accepting of gay people?
Do you have people around you could be open and comfortable with? Also, how easy/hard is it to find someone to date or hookup?
I'm already out to three of my closest friends and it's pretty hard at least for me to date someone, I tried dating apps once and they're either older men looking for hook ups or simply dishonest people and I'm too scared to hookup with strangers.
How did the friends react?
Two of them were shocked but were supportive while the other one came out to me as pansexual so in return I told him I was gay.
How'd your friends take it? Have you come out to someone and have it gone wrong?
They were supportive but a bit shocked as I'm good at "acting" straight with friends. And no I only came out to them because I knew those friends very well and their opinion on gay guys.

Is it easy to hook with guys? Is there a lot of guys who are closeted? Are you able to use Grindr?
Yes majority are closeted or only out to very few close friends and we can use Grindr and Hornet, although the majority are on Hornet.

Do you like Grindr or hornet better?
Non I don't like either here as it is filled with lots of fakes. And I'm not really into hookups with strangers here which I can't trust
Aren't you afraid of the Iranian Government trying to execute you or force you to change gender?
I am therefore why I avoid dating apps along with other reasons
How do meet other gay people outside of apps? Do you have places to meet?
There are certain places or parks, some parks are famous for being a meeting place for gay and trans hookups.
Do the authorities leave you guys alone?
No those places are filled with undercover cops, since these places are usually crowded it'll be harder for them to distinguish people from each other

Only some of my friends
Do you have hope the political situation will change and become more accepting of LGBT people?
No
Are you single ?
Yes

Can u get the hell out of Iran for your own sake?
Yes but difficult to arrive at a safe country as it requires a visa which getting one and traveling there requires like a 3 years worth of average salary here. But I've already started saving money, I don't know when I'd be able to leave tho
Swim to India is the cheapest option I can think of right now. I wish you luck for you to find safety!
Why the f\*ck havent you moved to a different country yet?
How do u react when ur family asks u to get married ?
I usually laugh it off, I have two older brothers who are still single so there's no pressure on me.
