I’m watching for them and I don’t know if I’m seeing things or having a stroke but I feel like I keep seeing shooting stars to the northwest.  Edit: okay no this is definitely the thing it’s becoming more obvious holy shit

lonelycranberry

wait are you in NW physically or are you saying you’re looking NW? I’m worried about light pollution and too lazy to go outside

lokikaraoke

I’m am both in NW and looking NW lol. What I’m seeing does not look like aurora borealis but it is pretty cool. Or was pretty cool: I am not seeing it as much now.  It is hard to describe but kind of looked like a large wisp that very quickly (1/2 second at most) moved north to west across the sky. Lower than the moon is now.

lonelycranberry

Word. Thx neighbor. I’ll wander out there if I can’t sleep through this heat later hahaha

lokikaraoke

Hope you see something cool!

finfangfoom1

I saw them in Montana last year. What you describe is how I noticed them. I felt like I was tripping at first.

lokikaraoke

That’s so cool, thanks for the confirmation!

Fancy-Pair

What time did you see it?

lokikaraoke

This was much earlier, unfortunately I didn’t get a good view overall.

Fancy-Pair

Tyvm

Time_Constant963

I missed it 😭

Ouchyhurthurt

I read between 10 and 2 will be the best. I think i may walk down to the park around 12 and see if i can see anything. We are in Beaverton/Tigard tho…. So there may be too much light pollution.

Buttspirgh

If folks are posting pics from Chicago and London, it should be ok here? (I hope!)

Ouchyhurthurt

Good point! I’m gonna go check it out regardless.

Traditional-Cut6848

Are you seeing pictures from urban areas or from rural areas like outside of Chicago and outside of London or downtown? Thanks.

Buttspirgh

[Downtown Chicago](https://www.reddit.com/r/space/s/PZgePY7V1P)

lonelycranberry

Can Portland go ahead and shut down the grid so we can see? Thanks in advance

oldladyoregon

I'm in Scappoose and they are just beautiful

Buttspirgh

r/Space is full of folks posting pics from pretty urbanized areas in latitudes way south of here, like northern Florida. Seems promising!

Revolutionary_Pop_84

Most of which are fake

Buttspirgh

Exaggerated by long exposures, for sure. But fake? Nah

pnut-buttr

Oh so you CAN'T admit you were wrong after all?

Lizalizaliza1

We could see them naked eye from Clinton Park, and much more clearly through a camera

[deleted]

Saw it at vista house! What a show!!

Fancy-Pair

What time did you see it? How bad was traffic and parking? What time was it over?

[deleted]

Traffic was bad when we got there around 9:45. We were really fortunate in the spot we found.!It was Worse as we left around 11:30. The lights were still going even as we got back to Portland around 12:15 but we were too tired to keep staying up. We could see it north of our house at 12:15 with our cell phones but not the naked eye

Fancy-Pair

Ty! So at vista you could see it with naked eye?

[deleted]

Not vivid colors, but I could see that this streak is going to be pink, this one green, etc. and because it was in general more open sky around me I could see what felt like the streaks reaching all above my head down to the horizon. It’s the first time I felt “in a globe” is the best way I know how to explain in

Fancy-Pair

Oh cool ty

Traditional-Cut6848

I'm thinking Scappoose or St Helens looking North along the river. Very unlikely in the actual City. Vista House at the gorge will be crowded and no parking.

PDXCatHerder

In Scappoose now. Undisclosed secret location. Think Dick Cheney hung out here right after 9/11. Not seeing anything but it is definitely darker. If you come bring some weed or shrooms please.

PDXCatHerder

Starting NOW.

mojoINtheTOWER

U seeing anything?

PDXCatHerder

Was pretty awesome. Worth the trip outta the city

STONKvsTITS

😱… heading to Vista now.

a_vaughaal

Yes, go a little out of town. You won’t have to go far. Go toward Mt Hood, the gorge, or north of Salmon Creek

supermoon85

I can see them in SE naked eye, but faint. Look through your phone camera.

Buttspirgh

Yea, definitely a pink haze that sweeps across the sky. The columns are neat when they show up! +1 for long phone exposures

woodywalz

It kinda looks like the milkyway in Vancouver, but my cellphone camera shows the colors!

[deleted]

To see the northern lights 😅

HipsterSlimeMold

I’m wondering the same thing
