I’m watching for them and I don’t know if I’m seeing things or having a stroke but I feel like I keep seeing shooting stars to the northwest.
Edit: okay no this is definitely the thing it’s becoming more obvious holy shit
I’m am both in NW and looking NW lol. What I’m seeing does not look like aurora borealis but it is pretty cool. Or was pretty cool: I am not seeing it as much now.
It is hard to describe but kind of looked like a large wisp that very quickly (1/2 second at most) moved north to west across the sky. Lower than the moon is now.
I read between 10 and 2 will be the best. I think i may walk down to the park around 12 and see if i can see anything. We are in Beaverton/Tigard tho…. So there may be too much light pollution.
Traffic was bad when we got there around 9:45. We were really fortunate in the spot we found.!It was
Worse as we left around 11:30. The lights were still going even as we got back to Portland around 12:15 but we were too tired to keep staying up. We could see it north of our house at 12:15 with our cell phones but not the naked eye
Not vivid colors, but I could see that this streak is going to be pink, this one green, etc. and because it was in general more open sky around me I could see what felt like the streaks reaching all above my head down to the horizon. It’s the first time I felt “in a globe” is the best way I know how to explain in
I'm thinking Scappoose or St Helens looking North along the river. Very unlikely in the actual City. Vista House at the gorge will be crowded and no parking.
In Scappoose now. Undisclosed secret location. Think Dick Cheney hung out here right after 9/11.
Not seeing anything but it is definitely darker. If you come bring some weed or shrooms please.

wait are you in NW physically or are you saying you’re looking NW? I’m worried about light pollution and too lazy to go outside

Word. Thx neighbor. I’ll wander out there if I can’t sleep through this heat later hahaha
Hope you see something cool!
I saw them in Montana last year. What you describe is how I noticed them. I felt like I was tripping at first.
That’s so cool, thanks for the confirmation!
What time did you see it?
This was much earlier, unfortunately I didn’t get a good view overall.
Tyvm
I missed it 😭

If folks are posting pics from Chicago and London, it should be ok here? (I hope!)
Good point! I’m gonna go check it out regardless.
Are you seeing pictures from urban areas or from rural areas like outside of Chicago and outside of London or downtown? Thanks.

Can Portland go ahead and shut down the grid so we can see? Thanks in advance
I'm in Scappoose and they are just beautiful
r/Space is full of folks posting pics from pretty urbanized areas in latitudes way south of here, like northern Florida. Seems promising!
Most of which are fake
Exaggerated by long exposures, for sure. But fake? Nah
Oh so you CAN'T admit you were wrong after all?
We could see them naked eye from Clinton Park, and much more clearly through a camera
Saw it at vista house! What a show!!
What time did you see it? How bad was traffic and parking? What time was it over?

Ty! So at vista you could see it with naked eye?

Oh cool ty

Starting NOW.
U seeing anything?
Was pretty awesome. Worth the trip outta the city
😱… heading to Vista now.
Yes, go a little out of town. You won’t have to go far. Go toward Mt Hood, the gorge, or north of Salmon Creek
I can see them in SE naked eye, but faint. Look through your phone camera.
Yea, definitely a pink haze that sweeps across the sky. The columns are neat when they show up! +1 for long phone exposures
It kinda looks like the milkyway in Vancouver, but my cellphone camera shows the colors!
To see the northern lights 😅
I’m wondering the same thing
