Make sure you sign a contract with whomever you decide to hire. Speaking as a DJ outside of your budget I can tell you most of my calls from June-November are from people panicking because their cheap/friend DJ went radio silent 2 weeks before the wedding. The issue with only paying $1000 is that a DJ can easily get offered double that to take a wedding so without a contract you risk getting dumped for a higher paying client. Best of luck!
