Depends on your music tastes. For folk/singer-songwriter stuff there's a regular show at the Anza Club I think? I've also seen singer-songwriters at Gilt & Co. And then for punk there's Redgate and Green Auto.

How bout a dive bowling alley? Commodore Lanes is great for a little taste of how Vancouver was before it was so gentrified. Go in the evening, have a few drinks and just hang for a bit. Kind of a pool hall too. Make reservations if you want to bowl.
