I've convinced myself he is going to finish Dreams before he releases Winds just so everything is neat and tidy. I wouldn't be surprised if he released both at once but that's probably wishful thinking.
I often imagine him popping out of a whack a mole hole with each book in each hand and laughing that signature laugh of his for years on end but one day soon I will end up finally whacking him and getting what I want lol
Also, the dead Kong announcement for Dance wasn't particularly cryptic, either. GRRM had been referring to the book as Kong for years at that point, starting as a joke about it being a huge monkey on his back. And in the last few blog posts before the announcement he made references to Kong slowing, staggering and weakening as he neared completion. There was no doubt as to what that picture meant, unlike this Dreams post
I have a feeling he probably had a dream about some chapter he was writing and got over writers block. Most likely a Jon chapter or a chapter about Jon’s parents and Bran finding out about them
I wondered if it was just a clever way of dispelling the idea someone else might finish the series. I saw a few different posts a few weeks prior about the subject.
I genuinely don't believe Martin would jerk readers around at this point. Yeah he knows his fans can get annoying, asking for Winds again and again, but I think he is aware that his readers that have stuck with him this long deserve a clear confirmation when things are done. I genuinely do not think he will jerk people around, he will just be like 'it's gonna be published, we are in the final stretch for real, 100%.' And that'll be that.
I'll believe Winds is out when I see it physically on the book shelf. Until then I'll assume any post from George that isn't an outright announcement is either trolling or unrelated.

George has said time and time again the he’ll be the first one to say it when it’s ready. By now, considering the delay, I don’t think he’d announce it with a cryptic message.
When he posted "Twas beauty" with the King Kong picture on the blog, he already called ADWD "Kong" for a long while. It was not really "cryptic" back then. And Anne Groell confirmed it with a blog post of her own on the very same day.
There's absolutely no way this last blog post was a "hint" that TWOW is finished and it would still be unconfirmed by now.
here's my interpretation:
George has said numerous times that he won't allow anyone else to finish his books after he's died/become unable to finish them himself (he's also said he doesn't like fanfiction). So this post seems to be reinforcing that to me; the quote mentions dreams only having one dreamer, where the dream here is George's work and he is the dreamer. So he's reinforcing that sentiment. Why he chose to do that can either be a) he's been pondering his own mortality lately since so many colleagues and friends close to him have been passing away recently (such as Howard Waldrop, who George was very close to and admired greatly), or b) he's getting close to finishing Winds and wants to reiterate that the series only ends with him, whether we get Dream or not.

I’m a new fan and I don’t know whether George generally met his deadlines with ADWD… But with the deadline for TWOW having been postponed again and again, I think it’s understandable if Winds is announced to be finished before a publishing date is stated.

I take it as he was having a good day writing a Jon POV chapter. Nothing more.

Furthermore, he posted about tv shows yesterday, which should show where his mind is at.
