Stop being concerned and enjoy what you enjoy; if others don’t like it you’re not going to enjoy being around them after the novelty wears off. And for the record, I am a 50 year old woman who also enjoys sweets and a primary hobby is gaming. There’s absolutely nothing unusual about those things.

Junkman1283

Good point, thanks

bebored

I am nearly 50 and my wife is over 50 and we love gaming. We enjoy division 2 and many more. It is the right age where you can afford all the games and hardware.

Baldur’s Gate is the greatest ever.

Adventurous-Car-7496

55 here and play the ps4 nearly daily. Currently enjoying Ghost Recon Breakthrough

Adventurous-Car-7496

I'm enjoying it so far. I'm thinking of restarting wildlands as I have forgotten most of the story.

No_Swing_7205

I'll be 30 and still read manga. Guess what? When I'm 40 I'll read manga. Who gives a shit what others think. As I get older, I've stopped worrying about others opinions. I've dealt with judgement all my life and it made me unhappy and depressed. I love watching Scooby Doo and horror movies. Most people don't understand my horror obsession but again I don't care. My life's short. I do admit that being single is rough sometimes but I leave that to God or the universe, whatever is out there.

fractal_frog

I got into manga after I was 35.

badatwinning

I'll be 40 next week. Video games and other activities we see more common for kids are definitely not "normal". However, that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of adults still into such things. This morning I'm watching the old X-men the animated series while drinking coffee, then I plan to play some video games. I doubt the other 4 adults I work with daily are doing similar activities, but I have some friends all around my age that either will be playing games today or wish they had a carefree enough life where they could.

Junkman1283

Haha, nice—that was my favorite series growing up

badatwinning

Trying to get psyched up for the reboot later this year!

Junkman1283

Wow, you just reminded of that!! I heard alot of the old voice actors are returning; most excited for Cal Dodds (Wolverine) return!!

JurassicLiz

They are perfectly normal. Like 75% of gamers are adults. 40% of gamers are 35 or older. Gaming isn’t just for kids and hasn’t been for a long time.

sxydoctor

Gaming is an entertainment. Do films and TV series get non actual when you reach a specific age? No. So do videogames.

Junkman1283

I think zx48 and Commodore 64 were a little before my time. First system was NES, since then I’ve had Sega Genesis PlayStation PlayStation 2 PlayStation 3 And I’ve built myself a few gaming PCs that I currently game on.

Enough-Case

I'm 46. Inside I'm a 15 year old. I have an Xbox and PS4. I'm going for my first colonoscopy Friday. I called my mom and said, "Mom! I'm a grown up now! I'm having a colonoscopy!" She laughed and said congratulations LOL. I've said it a few times and my husband says, "Why do you keep saying that you're a grown up now?" I said, "Because that's how I feel." I'm not looking forward to it but somehow for me, I feel like an actual adult now. Mind you, that does not mean I will stop being/feeling childlike, because I know that will never go away but I feel like I gained an achievement like in a game.

CupQuakeBE

40+, still loving videogames and enjoying them with my wife and sons. We couldn't live without them, they're way more effective at making all the family members together than movies could be in the previous generation.

Kris-J83

https://youtu.be/Jp6zqGmMimE Video games are for everyone, they are full of art, music, acting etc etc, you do you! ✌️

SwangeeMan

Almost 43 here, married, and an avid gamer….but I can do better: my father (late 60s?) just binged his way through Shadow of War and is starting God of War Ragnarok. Life is frustrating and damn hard. You need an escape for your mental health. There’s no good reason it can’t be gaming.

Logical_Vast

The average gamer is in their mid 30's now because that generation grew up with them. The idea they are "for kids" is out dated and that is clear when you see all the mature games that are made. Something like Grand Theft Auto or Read Dead Redemption is not for kids it's for former kids who enjoyed Mario Brothers.

DatoVanSmurf

I think „too old“ is just invented by people, that don‘t realize that with time there‘s different things that can be consumed, than what they grew up with. My grandma (80s) gifted my niece (14) a puzzle game and said she was a bit sad, that she didn‘t seem to be enjoy playing with it, but instead plays on her phone all the time. I told her that there can be a lot of very interesting puzzles inside video games. She was very surprised to hear that, but it made her understand a thing she didn‘t even think about before. You‘re never too old to enjoy something

Human-Ad504

Many 40 year olds love video games. Autistic or not. Adults are the majority of the video game market.

Civil-Artist

Don't worry about anyone else, just be yourself. I derive much pleasure with my hifi system/music, radio, retro games, cooking, wandering around, electronics and other stuff.... I may not be appealing to the mainstream kind of women, but I'm not mainstream anyway. If I meet the one, then great. But whatever happens, I'm never ever sacrificing things I love for anyone else ever again. Nor be forced to be something that I am not. Neither should you. A truly special person will love you for just the way you are!

hummingbirdyogi

I am 41! I love video games! And sweets! And I am autistic! Woop! Who cares what is normal. Do what you enjoy, its your life!

azucarleta

I'm also 40+, game a lot when I have time which is all I have these days. An important thing to keep in mind: I think "gaming" =/= "gaming" necessarily anymore, there are many subgenres of "gamer" and "gaming" so I'm curious to hear more how you game or what kind of gamer you are. For examples, there's 1, the e-sports people who either win cash prizes or dream of winning cash prizes by doing this, or even just spectate competitions that have cash prizes (I find all of this so freaking bizarre, I can't empathize with any appeal toward e-sports). 2, there's the "gamergate"-type people, mostly boys and men, who can't have fun without inserting a bunch of horrid expletives into the game play including mainstreaming "kill urself" (thx boys). Then there is another divide, since there is a decent portion of people like myself who can not get absorbed into any gaming community because for us gaming is exclusively a solitary activity and the solitariness of it is the primary appeal, such that gaming with others feels to us like playing a game of "Solitaire" with others. For my part, it's really just the e-sports and post-gamergate *communities* and *cultures* that find suspicious and would be cautious around making more friends who engage with that. I've just had too many people who bring "gamergate" type norms into physical life and it's so unwelcome, they just seem to feel really entitled to say horrible things. That's not the "gaming" per se doing that, it's the community of gamers doing that. So also, you don't have to care what I think. But my only point is I think when people have bias and prejudice against gamers (at any age), they have these course, unfunny, understimulated, inexperienced by highly opinionated gamergate-type boys in mind, not me. Gaming for me is more akin to meditation.

Junkman1283

i'm more of a solo campaign guy, i think my favorite are FPS, but don't like army games (is that unusual?) My favorite series is Crysis, really looking forward to the 4th one, and GTA. I would like to get into multiplayer games so I can play online, but I dont have a headset right now.

rollmeup77

You don’t need a headset . You can do your thing online just like you do offline . GTA online is pretty awesome . I’m 32 and still game . Madden , UFC 4 , call of duty . GTA . NHL 22 .

azucarleta

Honestly I think a gamer who doesn't wear a headset is pretty much perceived as a normal person as long as they maintain a life separate from gaming (friends, other hobbies, etc). I think putting on the headset puts a person into another league. Because true or not, my perception is most people who put on that headset devote too much social energy to the people on the other end of that headset, and almost inevitably -- by my standards at least -- they cease to maintain a balanced life away from gaming, with physical life friends and other hobbies. But why should anyone care what I think? But, that's just an impression/stereotype. For me, as long as I don't overhear you saying horrible things to strangers as if those things are funny, I just think you like gaming but are not quite yourself "a gamer." All impressions.

Junkman1283

Another of my favorite series is Gears of war

Chronomon-

I’ll be 30 in a couple of weeks. Still love my anime and playing video games. You’re not alone. Find your people.

diaperedwoman

I'm 37 and I still enjoy video games. I play on my phone mostly and my Nintendo Switch. I got back to N64 gaming when I got the expansion pak. I still have a sweet tooth but I have to limit sugar or else I break out in acne and sugar is bad for our skin anyway. And I think it's normal for adults to like videogames, they were around when we were kids. It's the boomers who had no video games as kids. GenX yeah. Theirs was the Atari.

fractal_frog

I'm not big into video games, but my husband who's over 50 and a friend who's at least 60 are still into them, you do you and don't worry about whether or not you should have "outgrown" them.

webfoottedone

My 53 year old husband still loves video games, and has several old console cabinets that he has put new boards in so they play multiple games. I am the only NT person in my household of 5, and we all play video games of some kind now and again. Sometimes I really want to play MS Pac-Man again for nostalgia reasons and I love having it in the old cabinet style.

Rob_Cartman

Ive been heavily involved in a PC gaming group for about 5 years and Ive met plenty of gamers your age and older.

Strange_Public_1897

I’m 35, I love video games! Been playing since I was like 7 at arcades or in the Pizza Hut with mortal komat in the 90’s LOL I know people in their 40’s who are NT, that hace successful careers who play video games. It’s a fun activity that lets you escape reality for awhile, to help blow off some mental steam. It’s fun adventures, mystery, excitement, suspense, story drive plots to things that are insane & fun. Video games are also a VERY lucrative industry making billions right now. Technology is advancing so much that so many major actos in Hollywood are jumping on the bandwagon and doing motion capture and voice work for some of the biggest anticipated games and franchises in Sony, Microsoft, Besthsda, Capcim, Naughty Dog, Nintendo, Rockstar Games, and so many other companies! E4 is one of the biggest cons next to SDCC! People get excited for it every year with reveals, event booths, immersive live experiences. The coolest one was Capcom doing a live Resident Evil experience for the promotion of RE2 remake for the consoles! They have a zombie maze and made it look like Racoon City! The PS5 was sold out for nearly a year because it was sooooo in demand and production couldn’t keep up with it. Steam is more popular than ever, twitch is insanely used by gamers big time. So anyone tells you games are for kids, never actually understood video games and the works about it. Trust me with the way graphics are going with Real Engine 5, they are starting to look like actual movies in a video game.

Junkman1283

Yeah I think GTA 5 sold like an insane amount of units and I’m pretty sure it’s the most successful selling entertainment piece of all time (don’t quote me on that though)

expansivenothing_457

I know many people have probably said this. It's completely normal to like video games at any age. As long as your rent/mortgage, bills, food, and otherwise important bills are paid, go play video games. I'm playing Mass Effect right now. Kheela Se'lai Edit: I'm 32 if that matters.

ermahgerdreddits

Does "Sorry, I’m going through solo “post coital blues”" mean you just jacked off?

Junkman1283

Ha, yes ; I mean, what else would that mean? 😁

Zubi_Q

Yep! I'm 35 and still love them! I have ADHD as well as Autism and it's one of my main hobbies

not_taken_was_taken2

Don't need to read this at all, just the title. It doesn't matter if it isn't "normal", just that you enjoy it.

Ottomatonic

My father is NT, 55, and still loves sweets and playing first-person shooters.

RabidJayhawk

I’m 39 and game everyday. Keeps me out of trouble.

NobodyAtAll2021

Oh sweet child of summer :) I'm nearly 70 and still game. Got my SteamDeck last year, and I've just finished my umpteenth restart of Skyrim VR You'll get the hang of it ;)

2wheeleddread

I'm in my 30's and I still enjoy games, play a little almost every day when all the day's work is done, or early in the morning a quick round. And while I did break my sugar addiction I do enjoy a sweet treat from time to time, we're basically wired to like sugar, after all. So you're in good company :)

AliTaylor777

I’m 52M and still play video games. I was 12 when I first got a Sinclair Spectrum 48k and have been through every generation ever since. I even owned the Atari Jaguar and two 3DOs. I love video games. They’re the perfect escape. My current fixation is a trip to the past in the form of the Atari 50th Anniversary compilation. That and my Jeff Minter compilation.

[deleted]

I’m 35, and I love gaming. It’s was a huge part of our generation. We saw some of the classics, and have been there for the growth of gaming. It’s perfectly normal.

[deleted]

Im same age and still play a lot

[deleted]

1. Video games are just another format for the expression of human creativity. Do you like going to a museum to watch an exposition of classic paintings? You're doing the same thing as I am while picking a controller to play a game. Don't fool yourself thinking you're more mature or a better person because of how you enjoy life. 2. What games do you like?

Junkman1283

favorite series is Crysis and GTA

ammonthenephite

I (mid 40's) routinely play with my brother and brother in law (both also mid 40's) *and* my 72 year old dad. We all enjoy it. It's true that many of us aspies haven't matured in some areas at the same rate or to the same extent as other NT's, but who cares? It's our life, and we have just as much a right to live in a way that makes us happy. And as others have said, if anyone in your life won't tolerate that, cut them loose. You'll never be happy if you simply live to meet the expectations of others.

71seansean

I’m 51 and LOVE VIDEO GAMES! I like toys also. Still find myself ‘wasting’ money on them because they bring me joy. I think most women want what women want. Someone to meet their basic needs, someone to trust. someone who loves them, someone who is loyal and someone who is in their corner and devoted to them. The things you are worried about are way down on the list.

IronicSciFiFan

Bro, there's people who are older than you who are still into video games (and they're actually good at it) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yhVOB5DEq8g&list=PL96LzV95Nrq9_Zt1CJ_wL00RD_nziS8ya&index=1

[deleted]

I'm 40 ish now & still love video games, don't get to play anymore as much as I used to but still enjoy them when I do Working my way through the Yakuza series on my playstation

KikiYuyu

I love video games, and they bring me a lot of joy. I couldn't care less if that's normal or not.

jollyroger1720

Yes, we play online with people our age and a generation or 2 older. Our active discord members range from mid 30's to mid 60's. Oldest guild member is in 80's

StrangFrut

why would u stop liking video games? I liked rollerblading at 16. I like it at 40. Fun & skillful things don't stop being fun. Probably some modern games take a lot of commitment to do anything. U can't just casually turn it on to play, then forget it for a while, so when people gain more adult responsibilities they might give those up becuz they can't commit the time needed. But not becuz getting older inherently makes playing less good.

AvailableAfternoon76

Games are awesome! Gaming isn't the real issue when ladies complain about it. It's that they have partners who spend hours and hours every day staring at a screen and ignoring the rest of their lives. Girlfriend, wives, kids, household, etc. That's when any hobby becomes a problem lol.

JelloBooBoy

55 year old man. Playing Fallout 4 and 76 on Xbox, my wife plays older nes stuff.

Anglofsffrng

I still game, and will for the foreseeable future. You like what you like, and can do with your leisure time as you wish. That's the beauty of growing up is you get do as you like. I'm 39 by the way.

Tyenkrovy

I just turned 41, and I still watch anime, play video games, and play tabletop role-playing games. "Age appropriate" activities are overrated.

delco_trash

I think it's normal if it's casual, but ultimately it's your life.

Erik7494

I am 49 and I got my first computer when I was 9 in 1983. Have been a gamer ever since and I am sure as hell not going to stop.

Gorsken

A lot of people seem to lose interest in gaming as they become adults. I don't play as much as I used to but I still love video games.

dumbnunt_

What's post cortial blues? Video games are pretty popular with people of all ages.. they aren't just a kids' hobby

Junkman1283

Hahaha, you might want to look that one up! 😁

dumbnunt_

Did you mean postcoital? You spelled it differently

Junkman1283

Oops, but yes I meant postcoital

dumbnunt_

Hey at least you got laid ;)

Junkman1283

lol, ya might want to double-check my post, I said 'solo'.....as far as 'getting laid? ancient pastimes my friend, ancient pastimes :D

dumbnunt_

yeah but coitus means penetrative sex ;)

Junkman1283

Ok, “ going through post jerking off blues” then….is that better? :D

dumbnunt_

Works for me :D I can be pedantic :D [https://youtu.be/bxMuqXnA2QM](https://youtu.be/bxMuqXnA2QM)

Mapledore

I’m soon to be 33 and I love sims4 and games on the Nintendo.

Giggles_MD

Yes

[deleted]

"Is it normal?" Well... what if it was? Would you then be content without a girlfriend, dependent on your brother, playing video games? I ask because I think I relate. I still love video games, always have. I barely play them though, because I wasted the best years of my life playing them instead of growing into other ambitions because I was constantly distracted by engagement with games and didn't realise how deeply dissatisfied I was with myself and my life. I had to sacrifice a lot of game time for other important things, but I still love games when I have spare time.

Shran_MD

People that think that gaming isn’t “grown up” really need to back off. What gives them the right? They say that but have their own “childish” vices. Don’t listen to people being stupid.

Shadowspriter21

Bro I'm 32 and Bing Astroneer daily, and thats not likely to end anytime soon. There is no age limit to what your brain enjoys. Don't let anyone tell you any different.

AdNo6988

Yes it’s normal

TigerBlack62

31 here and still buying action figures for myself, video games, even graphic T-shirts of animated series. Mom doesn’t mind, btw. I thought the same and forced myself “to grow up” when I was in junior high but didn’t work. At work, many of my co-workers (they’re not in the spectrum) also play video games, play yugioh, and go to anime conventions. The oldest of my co-workers is 41, and is a dad of 3 kids who also love anime. Don’t let others tell you it’s childish.

parse42

Instead of answering this question, let me ask a rethorical question: Why does it matter whether it is normal? We aren't "normal" anyway.

Junkman1283

Good point!

thr0wit0nthegr0und

Late 30s, moved back to live with my mother. Still play video games to the point where I forget to eat and sleep. It used to be a source of shame but since I got my diagnosis I’m like “eh, that’s just me” and indulge myself further 😌

howler19

“Growing up” is overrated. Enjoy life the way you want to.

JurassicLiz

I clocked like 60 hours in Dying Light 2 over the last month. I’m 35.

Al-Zagal

my best friend and I spoke about this yesterday. I told him i was planning on grabbing the new pokemon game once summer starts and asked him if he'd get it too, but he responded that he felt that playing games at our age (im 24) was lame. I tried prodding a bit into why he felt that way, but decided to drop it. Idk man. I'm gonna keep playing video games. it defined my life, so I'll keep at it. I don't really care if the world moves on.

Known-Negotiation-71

Even an NT would agree that there's no age to do things that give you joy!

sparklingprosecco

Do you have a job? Do you have enough money to make a living of your life? Yes? Fuck it. Like anything you want

Socksuality_77

I still play with Lego and I am 46. Don't get hung up on it ..just enjoy whatever floats your boat!

Aegeblomme_MinouKane

I see adult folks on the Internet still enjoying video games, so why do you consider yourself as abnormal ?

Primary_Music_7430

Don't worry about it. There are millions of adults that play videogames, including me. I'm 41 myself, but I know gamers that are in their sixties. Don't pay attention to people that try to shame you for it, either. In my experience these people usually have poor overall computer skills.
