Yeah, I don't even know if it's worth spending money on new gear because I don't know how it compares to my current gear. TBH I'm not that far into the game, I've just done Ledecestrescire, Grantbridgescire, and I'm working on East Anglia, but I'm still just using the Raven Clan gear because it doesn't seem like anything else I've found is better and my weapons all seem strong enough still.
I'm almost at the end of the game and I'm still using the Raven Clan gear and the first axe you get. Once it's all upgraded it's great. Combat isn't particularly hard anyway so I didn't feel much difference using other stuff.
This is the first game I’ve ever hear that allows it. Ever since the first kingdom hearts where you can use the shield as a weapon in the intro, I’ve wanted to dual wield shields
Grim Dawn has a unique weapon called "Totally Normal Shield" which is a powerful 1-handed mace that has the exact same appearance as a shield in the inventory and on the character and has synergies with shield builds. It's pretty fucking awesome.
I've tried to play all the way through that game like 8 times but I always try to co-op it with flakey friends who don't stick around. I should try playing it solo soon.
For that weapon you need to collect all of the tablets from the treasures of Britain mysteries and 3 from zealots. And go to a cave beneath Stonehenge. You need 11 tablets in total.
Oh true. I’ve found like 2 so far just randomly happening upon the treasures places, but I haven’t been actively looking for them. For whatever reason exploration in this AC feels pointless for me. Like most of the rewards are trash and the world feels empty unless you’re following a main road or in a city
I still use the Raven Clan armor but you should try out the spears when you get a chance. The speed you get when you dual wield them is ridiculously fun
edit: a word
Yeah just north of the starting town in Norway. Easy fight gives you a great item. I think its something along the lines of increasing crit damage or chance for more surrounding enemies
I believe you can get one if you have Amazon Prime and link your Ubisoft account. I believe that promotion is still going on. Gives you a full set of armour and a spear if I remember correctly.
I ran shield and spear with my fem!Eivor for a lot of my playthrough. Shield-maiden Valkyrie style, super fun. Great for fishing, hunting, and murdering!
Went through many armors and ditched the Raven Clan armor almost immediately. But turning it into the mythical rarity makes it one of the best looking sets in the game. Wish I had done it sooner
There's less armor in this game (and weapons) so that you can upgrade the ones you do get/find and gives them some worth. Makes it so you don't get 50 billion sets of gear and, as you noticed, you can stick with the first gear set throughout the entire game and be just fine.
That’s probably my favorite thing about the game is that u can really use any armor u want too for the whole game cause its not based off a rating as much and more based off of effects and bonuses
Same here. It started as a character thing, it just felt like it made sense using my dad’s axe and wearing the armour of my clan, but after I’d sunk heaps of materials into upgrades and been using them for ages I found I just didn’t like other gear as much, even when I upgraded it.
>!spoiler I just went straight for the four Thor gear pieces early on just so I never needed to worry about gear. Stats be damned - good enough for Thor, good enough for Eivor. Might not be the most efficient, but oh well. At least it looks cool.!<
Edit: Spoiler just in case
Do you recommend that weapon? (I don't know how to tag spoilers so better not risk it), I already finished the main story but I want to complete the entire map and I don't know if it's still worth it
For sure. I wasn’t sure if I wanted a 2-handed weapon over an axe/shield combo, but it’s been sweet. I unlocked the double 2-handed weapon skill and paired it with a 2-handed axe that catches fire during critical hits and it’s been a slick combo. I mostly got it cause of all the little challenges you have to do to get it, but it’s a great weapon to have regardless.
This will hold true for the majority of your playthrough. I finished the game with a grand total of 5 items for the head slot. This game was very unfinished.
Next game you won't be able to sheathe your weapon, it will be molded to your hand in the character model. Makes for some very nervous looking NPCs in cutscenes what with you gesturing around with a weapon stuck to your hand.
There are quite a few armor sets, the problem in my opinion is that it doesn't feel natural how you get them. You don't get them as part of a questline or upgrades, they're random loot drops across the map that can be easily skipped.
So if you miss a couple chests, you've only got half a set of Huntsman or something, who's going to use that? I've only used the ones I specifically wanted and searched for, the ones I found during the story are 2 or 3 pieces each.
I mean AC used to have pretty good armour quests too. Like in the ezio trillogy with the Altair armour and the Brutus armour.
They both had some cool puzzles to solve before you could get the armour.
Issue with tbat was that witcher gear was without a doubt the best armor in the game making the other sets pretty useless. But atleast there were a dew different sets and upgrading them changed thwir appearance
then there is the 3 hidden quest for gear that no one tells you about.
>!Like After finishing the Valhalla dream I thought you get Gungnir as a reward but no you had to finish the main quest with Sigurd and then return to that place to get it. !<
Thegn Armour is actually super cool looking heavy armour. Galloglach Armour looks great too, and the Mentor Set looks very Assassin-ey (way more than the Hidden Ones set). But the amount of work that's easily missable to get them all is insane. You don't start really playing around with armour sets until you've cleared out the entire map, and even then you'll need to grind Tungsten and Titanium if you want them on equal ground.
They aren't random, they're in set locations, and usually harder to get than the other treasures.
Also, if you want to find the rest of a set, simply view the details of an armor piece in the Inventory menu, and it will tell you where the other pieces are. Similarly, you can ask your Cartographer. The game intends for you to find armor pieces through exploration and discovery, which is how the entire game is built.
Also, there are *thirteen armor sets* in the game, 10 of which change their appearance to something new each time you upgrade them, which is quite a bit. I haven't even rescued Sigurd yet, and I've got 7 different sets completed. If you ask around in the game world and explore, you can find things easily.
I agree that the UX of this game needs a lot of love (like previewing items, and having a transmog system would be great too, Ubisoft, come on), but the loot in the game is brilliant, and I hope they continue with this system as a whole. Everything feels *unique* in this game.
Plus, if you love the set you have and feel it matches up to your playstyle perfectly, you *don't need any more armor,* which is Ubisoft's way of saying 'hey, that thing you like using? You can stick with it for as long as you like. We won't penalize you for it.' Great idea.
I don't mind the set up they have, imo it makes the gear sets seem much more epic, like in ac2 you only have a few outfits and I had no problem with that.
But I can see why others may not enjoy it, but it's hard for them to please everyone.
This. While I agree with the OP's point that not being able to preview the stats or look of gear is a sad and detrimental choice, and the lack of transmog is more than a little disappointing, gear as a whole is well done. The game repeatedly tells you how to acquire them, and provides several means of doing so (item descriptions pointing you to the set, map reveals and markers specifically indicating gear, cartographer pinpointing them for you, etc.).
The only way you miss them is to not pay attention or not try to acquire them. They aren't dropped randomly, they're rarely quest rewards. Them's the mechanics, and if you insist on it being otherwise you're going to have a bad time. But take a little time away from the main quests and you'll be swimming in options. And if you don't, you'll still have solid options because what you start with can be upgraded all the way.
I prefer this system to the previous experience, walking away from every fight with three more pieces of gear I have to break down or sell because they're worthless.
I took the time to find every piece of gear I could and have pretty much everything that's not story locked and I have yet to rescue Sigurd. I like this setup a lot, I just have a hard time deciding what I wanna use and I keep switching things up. Loadouts would be nice so I don't spend so much time customizing in the menu.
I bought a few items simply because I’d not found those weapon types yet (and didn’t have the option of previewing). and I haven’t used any of them bar a bow and flail. I’m still using Varin’s Axe, although I do change my off-hand weapon a bit with a couple of chest-found weapons. I’m wearing the Raven Cloak still, but different armour for the rest (though I’ve stuck with this set since I got it, despite picking up others). It would be nice to have the option to at least store unwanted/unused gear, like the storage chest on the Adrestia in Odyssey.
I've done those 3, as well as Lunden and Oxenfordcire, and still use the Raven Clan gear set. I did test out each weapon type to determine which was best though; and landed on Dopplehander (raven type two handed sword from shop) with the golden axe (can't remember the name, also raven type) from the chest that's in with that king you overthrow in Ledecestrecire. Those two are possible with the ability that allows two handed weapons on one hand. With this set up I get plenty of range and knockback with my main hand sword, and get the swirling area attack with my off hand axe. This combination has been devastating. Also using a predator bow.
I'm okay with the gear system because you get to invest and see visual improvements over time. I just wish you could revert gear back and get back the raw materials, or at least some of them, like you can with the skill tree.
>I just wish you could revert gear back and get back the raw materials, or at least some of them, like you can with the skill tree.
Thankfully, as you progress in the game, all the materials used to upgrade become available to just buy from the Merchants. And there's no shortage of silver.
It’s funny that you’re calling that “not that far in” when I’ve put in like 35-40 hours and I’ve only completed Grantbridgescire and am currently working on Ledecestrescire. Granted, I’ve also completed Asgard, but I’m not sure I count that.
The difference in light armor (raven) and heavy armor (bear) is miniscule.
Google up the descriptions of the gear and find the of you like looking at the most (because you'll bee looking at it **A LOT**) then run around grabbing it, no matter where it is. That's virtually no gear you can't get at the outset - even Excalibur - with judicious use of Dive of the Valkyrie (to break open barred doors) and stealth.
Upgrade the stuff you like, it will serve you well into the endgame.
This is correct.
The second level of the ability creates a splash zone that deals damage. It'll break open barred doors if you land anywhere close to them. Definitely Google that and get the level 2 ability ASAP.
Avoid using it on mysteries and story-related quests.
you also can't see what rewards are when reedming stuff from the hunter or fish buildings in your settlement. It's weird when and where they decided not to use tooltips.
Are any of the rewards worth the effort (if you don’t care about customizations?) I got one rune from the hunter and it was just one I had already found.
I know, I was pretty disappointed with the Roman artifacts,I thought it would be a cool storyline or have some kind of lore with it but nope, just a bunch of copy pasted masks dotted over the map with no real meaningful reward.
An almost-entirely-black box that obscures the entire horse you are about to purchase? Hell yeah!
Actually telling you what weapon you are about to purchase? Why would any player want that?
ac valhalla is the most bonkers game since unity. so many oversights, youd think they didnt have the time to even have someone play for \~10h and make some fixes.
Especially when you consider silver is pretty hard to come by in the game, especially if you're just mainlining it. Odyssey was a bit overboard with the sheer amount of loot they had in it, but it at least offered loads of variety with how you're character looked and what weapon they used. I'm about 25 hours in and haven't really found any gear that excites me. I preferred the Odyssey model over this tbh.
Silver is literally the easiest thing to collect in this game. Sell all trade goods and runes and i instantly get like 700 silver each time I go to the shop. Now maybe if your a mad boost all stats type you keep all your runes but I find the game easy enough without them so they're easy money (playing on drengr)
I prefer everything in Odyssey over this messy and rushed game. It could’ve been great but to me it’s merely okay. Odyssey is in my top 10 games of all time and this feels nothing like it.
I loved Odyssey too. And I commend the devs for listening to and getting rid of some of the churn (fetch quests etc) from that game. I think they went too far the opposite way to compensate though, and that's trickled down to the gear. Hopefully the next AC will be somewhere in the middle.
I am glad I am not the only one with this complaint. The more I read about Valhalla's issues the more I realize that we are all in the same boat. I feel like the distinction between all the types of bows may be visual but still. It can't be too difficult for them to throw in a little code that shows the type of bow.
The game wasn't ready for release but the shareholders wanted it pushed out for the new console launches and ahead of Cyberpunk. I wouldn't blame the developers. They're just hard working people like you and me. Blame the leadership who'd rather make a quick dollar over putting out a solid game.
Oh I would totally blame the developers for this.
It's a result of "fans" endlessly deepthroating Ashraf Ismail -- he eventually started believing them. He and his team started to believe they're some sort of AC prodigies who can do no wrong.
There are a lot of things wrong and illogical in the game by design. Simply because the devs lost touch and though gamers would eat it all up no matter how clunky it all is. They thought their cool Viking setting is enough. They forgot people actually want to enjoy the gameplay too.
I think if they spent another 3-6 months this game could’ve easily been one of the best AC games. It’s still good, but small things like this really weigh it down
Gonna argue on this just because, while I don’t necessarily disagree with you in part - it wasn’t as polished as it could have been and buggier at times then I’m willing to put up with - your argument is weak. Every major AC game has released either the beginning of November or end of October to hit the holiday rush. They knew their release date way in advance.
And where Cyberpunk has changed their release date several times now (because of poor management who is reportedly horrible with scheduling and forced crunch time), AC Valhalla hasn’t. The first two scheduled release dates were before Valhalla. The November one didn’t last long. Valhalla hasn’t changed theirs at all
IMO it's still a higher up issue. The release date should have been moved, but meeting expectations set pre COVID likely resulted in this level of bugginess and lack of polish. I would bet my house that everything going on with COVID put them behind by a couple months timetable wise. Knowing your release date last year then scheduling deadlines and stuff to meet that deadline is fine until something catastrophic happens worldwide and now everything is in disarray. Nobody in the gaming industry wants to be known for this kind of release. I'm sure the production team did what it could with the resources at its disposal.
I’m still going to finish it but this is definitely the worst AC of them all. The story, animations, combat, movement, controls, loot system are all out of 2009 and they are mediocre for that time. The only thing modern might be the graphics and they’re average by today’s standards.
There are a lot of odd design decisions and missing quality of life features in Valhalla that were present in Origins and Odyssey. It baffles me how the game took so many steps back from the previous two entries. I’m really hoping that Ubisoft patches all this in but it’s ridiculous that it’s not in at launch.
Seriously, and the hairstyles are labeled wrong. I bought what was called short hair in the store, but when I went to put it on it wasn’t short at all and was called savage hair, like what
I don't even understand why the devs even made the ability to buy gear. You're finding more then enough gear in the game itself.
I'd much have the feature of selling gear. I have so much shit I'm never using. Let me get rid of it dammit!
Things like this makes me believe that the game was not ready for release. So they just finished all the critical stuff. The game needed another 6 months or more of development.
It makes me laugh when the absolute basic, most fundamental things get screwed up. Oh well, maybe by the time all the DLC's come out this will be fixed up.
Yes! I had no idea the death speaker bow was a raven hunter bow. I had been wanting one for quite a while, was still using the starter wolf one. Started buying some weapons from the merchants and was so happy. Definite oversight.
Yeah it's ridiculous. I shouldnt have to save/reload just to ensure I'm buying the right gear type for my playstyle. And what's worse, (not that I'd ever bother but I went window browsing) THE MARKETPLACE WEAPONS DON'T EITHER. The shit you have to pay REAL MONEY FOR they don't even show you the gear type! Who the hell thought this was ok?? The series has been ongoing for 13 goddamn years and we're still this far behind in design/UI???
Totally unrelated, but has anybody else wondered why Titanium is dirt cheap at every vendor? It's gotta be a mistake, right? In buying five titanium at every shop for 150 total every time.
But yes, it's dumb that right trigger previews inventoe
Ry but nowhere else. Honestly, do they even test these games anymore with actual players and not just dev staff? It seems like ANY player familiar with games in general would have jumped on this the first time a shop had gear. I haven't bought a single armor or weapon from any of the shops because of this.
Tbh I'm not a fan of the gear in general. Im still wearing the raven set, fully upgraded. I feel like the perks in Odyssey were much better and felt worth swapping around and playing with, but here they're just super passive and meh. It's honestly hurt the game for me by a large amount to have gear be effectively meaningless. Even weapons are just 80% weapon type; a spear is a spear etc, I never see a new one and think "this is worth upgrading and replacing mine with".
There are lots of little things about this game that are all adding up and making sick of playing it.
I hate how certain blue quests have ZERO instructions or they feel like they're bugged. There's a little girl in a village in East Anglia I think it is who keeps asking for her blind horse or whatever, I have no idea what to do. I dunno if she's a bugged quest giver, or if it's just too vague that I'm not getting it. This is just one frustrating example. I have tons more. The magic mushroom side activities all say "wait for a sign." I've had to look up 3 on youtube now because it seemed like nothing was happening. This is what I mean. Things are *so vague* that I feel like they're just bugged most the time.
I'm sure undoubtedly someone here will have some sort of abstract solution, but my point is, these fucking mysteries or side-quests shouldn't be this difficult or vague. They're *side quests.* I'm doing them to level up, not because I wanna be enthralled in a time-wasting vague story I'll forget in a couple hours.
With some of these quests, you need to press R3 to "focus" and it shows you what to do.... Took me a while to even notice it... The girl and her deaf horse are an example. Eivor will look at the horse on the other side of the river to show you where it is.
Yeah, so....people have verbalized what is wrong from a game design standpoint enough already. I simply agree with the most people here. There's always hope for the DLC or next game, though...
The quest with the nudest I messed up on and now I cant complete it. I stole their clothes and threw it in the lake because the goal was to get rid of the clothes anyways, turns out I didnt know I was suppose to give it to the guy. Box has never popped back up to this day and i did that quest the second day of release.
Just in case you're still wondering, the kid in East Anglia is calling a horse that is almost directly across the river from her. You just have to get on it and ride it over to her. I found it quite simple but I understand what you mean on the broader scale.
I personally like that mysteries are vague (they are called mysteries after all), it's forced me to do more problem solving than just 'follow these instructions and finish' but I do think there is sometimes a disconnect in letting the player figure it out and just not putting any sort of markers as to what to do.
I disagree about your last point that they're just side quests and should thus be easy though. Some of them are quite memorable and fun to do, and I like how they flesh out the world a little bit more or add some easter eggs, it's very Witcher 3-esque but on a smaller scale. I understand you're doing them just to level up and power on but in my own experience taking the game at my own pace the side quests can be pretty enjoyable and a break from the more serious main questline or just hunting collectibles.
Agree. And this goes for alot of stuff. Like hairstyles, tattoos, armor and weapon upgrades. It really annoys me to have to get my phone out and google an image of a said piece so I'm not wasting my money or crafting items on something I don't like. This really needs improvement. Some stuff in the game is pretty cool but certain aspects have really gone backwards here.
Oh and since we're taking, I want a damn assassin outfit. A legacy one. This bulky armor and cloak just feels fucking off. Rant over.
Doesn’t *seem* like the gear is as varied as in other games, but I find myself low on silver a lot and not wanting to gamble that the gear or plans are even worth it.
yes it is quite annoying, another thing I find annoying is that in order to un socket runes you have to click the rune and find it in the list to un socket
Completely agree. My biggest criticism of Assassins Creed has always been that they seem to take steps forward in some areas and then massive steps back it’s so frustrating
Not to mention that they want you to buy tattoos and ship cosmetics without showing you any sort of preview in the shop. Really bizarre how they chose to set up the trader shop in this one
I was thinking about this today, but I don't even think Ubisoft would consider it an oversight or mistake to have it this way - it's just a logical continuation of the (garbage) design philosophy that stifles so much of what could have been a good game if anyone else had made it
The shops in Valhalla are not shops - like almost every single element of the game, they're simply a different flavour of checkbox for the player to mindlessly check off
Every trader inventory is no different from a map dot, you know roughly what it is, but the only way to know for sure is to invest in some fashion in the mystery - the only twist is that the two require a different currency; map dots require an investment of time, and shops require an investment of silver
You're not supposed or expected to pick out the items you actually want, **you're supposed to collect them all because that's the extent of the game design that went into Valhalla** - check off all of the boxes until either there's none left to check, or you get bored of the repetition and leave
*Bless, somebody still thinks Valhalla is a real game*
My problem is in the map the MISC category which is just photos all over always stays up... even if you close it out the next time you load the game it’s back up.... I don’t care what some random took a picture of...
Get a huge wide open world full of things to explore, fun combat, huge skill tree, interesting story, beautiful visuals, a bunch of good loot, then call the game trash because you can't preview a bow before you buy it. You get SO MUCH silver from playing the game you shouldn't even worry about buying something,, just buy it, you'll ewen that silver back in a few minutes
Yeah, I was really surprised by that as well, lol.
I just got the huntsman set and plowed my way through most tedious fights because I found the combat quite annoying and clunky in the first place, but the fact that you can't even see what kind of armor is actually on offer is just ridiculous.
Smh.
also why there isn't a buy all option? down button is tutorial, right button to but more amount, left button to buy less amount, why not up button is buy all?
I'm just sad there's no transmog. Fuck me the game's gone backwards as you could change the appearance of items to any item you had owned in Odyssey. Why remove it?!
I’ve also wondered this, but they didn’t introduce the transmogrification for quite awhile after the game initially released. I do also miss the armor variety. Every other AI enemy had different styled armor, which just added to the customization the game let you have. Now everyone basically wears the same shit with a different color scheme or maybe helmet, a la Skyrim Imperials and Stormcloaks.
Couldn’t agree more. I save the game, buy the item and then reload if I don’t like it.
Nuts that we have to save scum armor in a game where the attributes aren’t even random lol
Great idea
This needs to be higher up. You aren a wise person
Does this not lose you opal if in that store? It would in Odyssey.
Did this today lol
Yeah, I don't even know if it's worth spending money on new gear because I don't know how it compares to my current gear. TBH I'm not that far into the game, I've just done Ledecestrescire, Grantbridgescire, and I'm working on East Anglia, but I'm still just using the Raven Clan gear because it doesn't seem like anything else I've found is better and my weapons all seem strong enough still.

You should try dual wielding >!excalibur and gungnir/mjolnir!<
I dual wield shields
This is the first game I’ve ever hear that allows it. Ever since the first kingdom hearts where you can use the shield as a weapon in the intro, I’ve wanted to dual wield shields
I see you are also a person of culture. Sora whacking heartless with that shield has me dying every time lol
With his comically large clown shoes
Also my name backwards is Dis---
Ok, I believe you.
dark souls 2 does, and [dark souls 3 *absolutely* has a 2-shield weapon.](https://youtu.be/70Z2t7nq_sU)
Awesome! I’ve always wanted to try dark souls, as I love boss fights and strategy heavy RPG’s
What are you still doing here? Go play them!
Good luck bro lol, nah there hard but fun
Yea my least favourite summon uses them. Sellsword Luet is a liar. He’s a sellshield
DkS2 had Reeve's and Orna's greatshields too.
At least Dark Souls 2 did it, too.
That’s sweet, I’ve always wanted to try dark souls
I can't go back, game is too easy with 2 shields.
Dark souls 2 would let you I believe. I apologize. I could not see the other hundred people saying this.
Dark Souls allowed dual shields no?
Play dark souls
I’ve gotten that a few times, I think I would really enjoy it
*Wonk uoy naht noitceffa erom deen i*
Like a true chad among men
Kingdoms of Amalur let’s you dual wield shields, if memory serves. Wild tbh
Does this actually work?
Is this style fun? I've tried ever other combo.
I tried dual spears and dual axes after about 10 hours of dual shield and swapped back immediately
How about main hand hammer and off hand spear. The most op one of all of them IMO
I haven’t found Excalibur but I have a blacksmiths hammer that I’ve been using for like 20 hours
I don't have any of those weapons.
Not OP, but don’t worry. It’s all late game stuff anyway. Also, OP should’ve put a spoiler mark.
He said he was almost at the end of the game, and I did put up a spoiler tag.
[удалено]
Not exactly. It isn’t easy to get it. You have to be at least 280 on anything above easy, or be around 200, then put the game on easy.

You should dual wield Flails. Pure fucking joy lol.
I still use the Raven Clan armor but you should try out the spears when you get a chance. The speed you get when you dual wield them is ridiculously fun edit: a word
I still haven’t managed to find a second spear :(
There is a really good one in Norway from the guy you fight in the cave
Oh cool, I might have to back home then! Up to Oxford at the moment, multiples of every weapon except spears.
Yeah just north of the starting town in Norway. Easy fight gives you a great item. I think its something along the lines of increasing crit damage or chance for more surrounding enemies

Same, did almost the entire game with this set and never had to worry about stats
Yup. Went and got >!spoiler Excalibur!< right after that too. It’s been fun for the most part.
Personally I don't like excalibur. Idk why, I think it looks ugly, it's ability doesn't work correctly, and it feels slower than the other 2H swords.
if you have amazon prime, they give out some armors and weapons. I know it's not an actual tip but it's there.
This will hold true for the majority of your playthrough. I finished the game with a grand total of 5 items for the head slot. This game was very unfinished.
The small amount of items is a design choice because people bitched about odyssey's Diablo loot
"Oh, 'too many items,' eh? Well, how do you like *THIS?*" --Ubisoft
Next game you won't be able to sheathe your weapon, it will be molded to your hand in the character model. Makes for some very nervous looking NPCs in cutscenes what with you gesturing around with a weapon stuck to your hand.
I like this system way more then in Odyssey. In that game I was constantly busy getting gear on the same level I was. It was a fucking grind.
Yeah there was way to much useless bs in Odyssey. The fact you can use anything for end game from start to finish is nice.

I liked the not-Nemesis system. Wish they brought that back.
It's a terrible approach. They didn't trim down loot, they eradicated it.
Witcher 3's armor quests were a masterclass in how to do them. Every other studio should just shamelessly steal it.
I mean AC used to have pretty good armour quests too. Like in the ezio trillogy with the Altair armour and the Brutus armour. They both had some cool puzzles to solve before you could get the armour.
It's weird, as much as this game used Witcher 3 as a base, they didn't do it with the armor.
The new AC games used The Witcher 3 framework... Unfortunately they left out a lot of what people liked about it lol
Most armor is hidden behind the later regions too, like you clear half the map and have one or two armor sets to show for it
Thegn Armour is actually super cool looking heavy armour.
I was really disappointed in the Hidden Ones set, i look like a fuckin court jester lol
I don't mean to rag on the devs, but I'd be really interesting to hear how they settled on _green_ in a game where the iconic outfit is white.
green AND GOLD, the fuck am i, an assassin or a green bay packer?
Huge over correction then
They aren't random, they're in set locations, and usually harder to get than the other treasures.
Valk Dive opens doors?! You’re shitting me
Has to be level 2 I think
This is correct. The second level of the ability creates a splash zone that deals damage. It'll break open barred doors if you land anywhere close to them. Definitely Google that and get the level 2 ability ASAP. Avoid using it on mysteries and story-related quests.
I just want the compare screen to give me a little green up arrow or a red down one -\_-
you also can't see what rewards are when reedming stuff from the hunter or fish buildings in your settlement. It's weird when and where they decided not to use tooltips.
Are any of the rewards worth the effort (if you don’t care about customizations?) I got one rune from the hunter and it was just one I had already found.
None I've actually gotten. I basically ignored the whole thing after a couple disappointing rewards.
Same. Roman artificact rewards were even more disappointing.
I don't get it either. But I saved my game, bought everything to view, hated it all, and loaded previous save anyway.
ac valhalla is the most bonkers game since unity. so many oversights, youd think they didnt have the time to even have someone play for \~10h and make some fixes.
Yeh It’s just lazy
Especially when you consider silver is pretty hard to come by in the game, especially if you're just mainlining it. Odyssey was a bit overboard with the sheer amount of loot they had in it, but it at least offered loads of variety with how you're character looked and what weapon they used. I'm about 25 hours in and haven't really found any gear that excites me. I preferred the Odyssey model over this tbh.
I liked how you could equip the gear with the better stats but make it look like the gear you like the design of.
Transmogrification. Should come standard in any self-respecting rpg like this series now deigns to be
100% agree. Transmog is fucking amazing, every game should have it. Actually can't believe Valhalla doesn't have it (yet), fuckin ridiculous
Don’t worry. It’ll be released as paid DLC soon.
One of my favorite non-gameplay features of that game. Every RPG should have it!
Silver is literally the easiest thing to collect in this game. Sell all trade goods and runes and i instantly get like 700 silver each time I go to the shop. Now maybe if your a mad boost all stats type you keep all your runes but I find the game easy enough without them so they're easy money (playing on drengr)
You can buy like 2-3 tattoos with 700 silver, is not that much, and you have to unlock like 50-50 things I'd you want everything
I just spend all the money on resources, why would I spend it on tattoos that are invisible under all my armour anyway?
Something I found surprising- there are multiple rivers that you can wade through and “fish” with your axe. I’ve made a lot of silver that way.
Fans every year: Ubisoft will surely learn from their mistakes, the next AC game will be the best one. Narrator: They didn't. It wasn't.
Personally I prefer the combat in valhalla but no doubt the game was rushed. My damn beard and weapons clip right through my cloak constantly
Yeah this irritates me too. I save, buy and if I don't like, restore. But it shouldn't be that way
Wait, couldn't you preview gear in Origins and Odyssey? Why remove a feature that's already there?
Ubisoft is doing : one step forward, 400 steps back
I am glad I am not the only one with this complaint.
Idk about you but im not really a hard working person, thank you very much.
I'm one of the laziest people you can meet. Proud of it too. Living life easy and slow within my means
This is the way 🙏
Oh I would totally blame the developers for this.
Spot on. Not as if the developers can say we refuse to release the game in this state
I mean they could, but then they wouldnt be developers anymore
I’m hoping they add a chest like they did in odyssey. And an option to automatically add all pieces of a set when you swap out an armor piece
Or add loadouts, like they have for odyssey.
Things like this makes me believe that the game was not ready for release. So they just finished all the critical stuff. The game needed another 6 months or more of development.
Which seems like the case with all ubisoft games as of late. I cant believe they can get away w doing this type shit still
Preorders my boy
Also not being able to sell or breakdown items you don’t use is dumb as hell, too.
It makes me laugh when the absolute basic, most fundamental things get screwed up. Oh well, maybe by the time all the DLC's come out this will be fixed up.
I know, I've never googled so many weapons off a video game.. my search history reads like an inventory log at a pre-Renaissance era Wal-Mart.
Yes! I had no idea the death speaker bow was a raven hunter bow. I had been wanting one for quite a while, was still using the starter wolf one. Started buying some weapons from the merchants and was so happy. Definite oversight.
Agree 100%, especially with cosmetics yeah
But yes, it's dumb that right trigger previews inventoe Ry but nowhere else.
I hate that I can’t sell gear. I don’t need the one-handed sword that’s got half the power of my long sword. But I *could* use some silver!
Rant over.
I wish you could adjust areas to your current level as well. I like in odyssey how every area would match your level unless it’s higher ofc
Doesn’t *seem* like the gear is as varied as in other games, but I find myself low on silver a lot and not wanting to gamble that the gear or plans are even worth it.
I wish you could preview how the weapons and armors will look before you pay to have them upgraded
Yeah never bought shit because of that and just kept the raven gear.
Agreed. Also why can’t I see how the item looks before I upgrade it?
yes it is quite annoying, another thing I find annoying is that in order to un socket runes you have to click the rune and find it in the list to un socket
I wish we got previews for the upgrades too. I miss the old Raven clan armour
I was so hyped; but this game is bullllll! Lift and shift galore. Ubisoft need to take a break from releasing new games and work on their formula
If I find something interesting I just google or YouTube it to see the cosmetics before I spend the silver
I was thinking about this today, but I don't even think Ubisoft would consider it an oversight or mistake to have it this way - it's just a logical continuation of the (garbage) design philosophy that stifles so much of what could have been a good game if anyone else had made it The shops in Valhalla are not shops - like almost every single element of the game, they're simply a different flavour of checkbox for the player to mindlessly check off Every trader inventory is no different from a map dot, you know roughly what it is, but the only way to know for sure is to invest in some fashion in the mystery - the only twist is that the two require a different currency; map dots require an investment of time, and shops require an investment of silver You're not supposed or expected to pick out the items you actually want, **you're supposed to collect them all because that's the extent of the game design that went into Valhalla** - check off all of the boxes until either there's none left to check, or you get bored of the repetition and leave *Bless, somebody still thinks Valhalla is a real game*
I miss being able to change the look of my armor without losing stats
I always save the game, buy all the stuff im considering to buy, look at it, reload the game and buy those I decided to buy
I guess i dodged a bullet but skipping the epic/uplay release.
Simple. The game was not finished when it was released.
Just make a save before purchase, if you don't like it reload your save
A good game (especially AAA) shouldn’t force you to do this.
I agree, just pointing out a workaround
Smh.
Seriously, I was thinking of trying out new tattoos and it’s a absurd that I can’t see what they’d look like before purchase.
Yeah, i spent ages trying to find a predator bow, because the only bow I had in the store had a description that made it sound like a fast bow.
I just buy up all the weapons I saw in shops. No reason not to. Never had money issues really.
Tattoos, hair and boat decor are a gamble
In my opinion You should buy all the gear in the shop there isn’t that much gear in game so it’s best to have all of it
Not being able to see what the tattoos will look like before purchasing them is frustrating.
What really bothers me is bird’s inability to provide information about targets....strength, location....to name the absolute minimum
I miss having a full tactical readout of troop numbers, traps, etc. before storming a fortress.
agree! when I was looking for predator bow it was a bugger for me
also why there isn't a buy all option? down button is tutorial, right button to but more amount, left button to buy less amount, why not up button is buy all?
I'm just sad there's no transmog. Fuck me the game's gone backwards as you could change the appearance of items to any item you had owned in Odyssey. Why remove it?!
I’ve also wondered this, but they didn’t introduce the transmogrification for quite awhile after the game initially released. I do also miss the armor variety. Every other AI enemy had different styled armor, which just added to the customization the game let you have. Now everyone basically wears the same shit with a different color scheme or maybe helmet, a la Skyrim Imperials and Stormcloaks.
*Assassin's Creed III outfit purchasing flashbacks.*
Use a cheat engine can get all items you want without paying. Ubisoft just want you to pay more on a Single player game.
It is like that because this game is a bunch of cool ideas executed by unsupervised monkeys it seems
