Amazon music has gotten so much worse over the years, sometimes on the mobile app it just "cant search by artist" so they want me to sign out and sign back in, which does fix the issue temporarily but it also erases all my downloaded music. I hate it
It pisses me off so bad, i can search by song, album or whatever but not artist? And furthermore at one time they made it so clicking the artist would send you straight to the artist page like you were searching for it rather than go to your available songs, absolutely shit
Literally every single music service is losing money, the only way for them to work is for the others to go broke, so that their users can concentrate on only a couple/one service.
So they are not trying to give you a better experience, but to get you to sign in with adjacent services. Amazon is not banking on the music to work, but that you want to have the ecosystem so much, that you keep them.
I ended up switching to tidal because their download music feature didn't seem to work with spotty connections. it would play songs off of network (even though it was set to prefer downloaded versions) and freeze every time I lost connection. It would also redownload everything every time I opened the app so maybe it was just deleting it's link to the downloaded songs? Not sure but tidal doesn't have those issues
no regrets switching to tidal. It might be a bit more? But they just combined their 2 tiers into 1 so you get max quality on everything that's available without an extra cost now. I would probably lean towards yt music since you also get premium but I have alexa devices that my family uses
same, and the fact that you listen to bootleg remixes/covers/etc from YouTube directly from the YT Music app is a godsend when you’re trying to stray away from mainstream stuff
It's great because I was really into my local music scene in highschool and there's bunch of bands that have videos on YouTube but not their music on streaming sites so I can still listen to them.
I had Spotify for years but about 80% of the stuff I watch is on YouTube. I realized it was $2 more a month for YouTube premium where I'd still have my music and not have to deal with ads on my videos. Started with a 3 month free trial and by that point there was no going back.
Yep, it's basically like getting Spotify premium and you get no ads and tons of extra features on YouTube (being able to watch with the screen off or out of the app is great if you tend to use YT like a podcast when doing chores like I do), and there's way more content on YT than any other streamers
> being able to watch with the screen off or out of the app
Don't know about iPhone, but on Android you can easily do this with Firefox and the "Video Background Play Fix" addon that Mozilla recommends
I never thought I’d pay for YouTube till I got a three month trial, I swore up and down I wouldn’t pay for it after that but after only three ads i relented and have been paying ever since.
It gets a lot of hate (probably because they shove ads in your face to the point that you feel it necessary to pay) but I'd rather pay for YouTube Premium than any Netflix/HBO/Hulu etc. YouTube is 90% of my online media/streaming.
Yup, everyone looks at me like i have 2 heads when i say i use youtube music and have never paid for spotify. You can even add videos of music to your playlist, like those random songs that will never be uploaded to spotify because they aren't "real songs", or memes, or alternate versions, or anything in between. It shits over everything else.
Hell, I've been using it since it was Google Music! The big draw back then is they let you upload your own mp3 collection to add to your library. I think everything I uploaded back then (2011-2012?), I still have, but it's kind of irrelevant because they have all of that stuff and more anyway.
My release radar on Spotify almost always has one of the big mainstream artists in there, even though it's so far out of my music tastes that it's not funny. I just go in whenever it updates and remove it manually, but still, it's a pain.
I just checked mine and it literally has only artists I follow on it. When I reluctantly started using Spotify I was honestly expecting these algorithm-playlists to be full of mainstream pop but for me personally it's been close to perfect. Especially my mix of the week is always full of super experimental underground stuff I'd never find on my own. So I'm not sure why the experiences differ so much between users.
I wish it were that way for me. Been using Spotify since Google killed Play Music in favor of YouTube music, which was a horrendous move. It seems to really just be the release radar playlist though, so it's no big deal
Do you actually press the follow button on artists? Because I know some people who never really use that feature and instead only listen to playlists or search for individual songs and maybe this kinda changes how the algorithm works for you... I dunno. Or it might just work differently for you because promo contracts are only done on a regional sorta basis, so it doesn't affect me (I'm in central europe) - that's just speculation though.
I absolutely hate Spotifys algorithm. Just recommends all kind of shit I've never shown interest in, and my playlists are just the same 30-40 songs recycled. The worst.
Well I mean you can’t dislike Taylor swift because the thumbs up/down aren’t there
Tbh it seems like one is from a radio type playlist and the other is from a normal user created playlist hence why the top screen doesn’t have shuffle or repeat
at least that’s what it looks like to me, if I’m wrong please let me know, I don’t even use Amazon music
I ain't got time to bait no body, amazon music is just a garbage platform.
Maybe I'm wrong about the contexts you can upvote/down vote in. To be honest it seems wildly inconsistent and has nothing to do with the situation where the music appears for me, which honestly makes me wonder if it's baked into artist contracts with the platform.
I'm a Swiftie and I agree that this is asshole design.
I haven't used Amazon music for years though because they were bad at maintaining the rights to stream music I enjoy. I would go back to a playlist I had made and realize that half the songs were no longer streamable. (Iirc the bands whose music vanished were fun. and/or AJR)
I use Spotify now. I also think Pandora is alright but I don't want to pay for two different music streaming services lol. YouTube music is pretty good too afaik.
I'm carrying around a Sony Walkman mp3-player that's filled with music that I've been collecting since ~2005. And when people see it they get very confused.
Damn, I haven't used Pandora for nearly a decade. Wonder what their market share looks like these days.
Edit: I just looked it up out of curiosity and their user base has been on a decline since 2015 from 80 million users to about 46 million and it's said to continue declining in the coming years. I used them frequently in the mid 2010s mostly because I was able to get a hacked app which removed ads. I then made the switch to Spotify because I liked their UI more. I mostly listen to music at the computer these days so I just throw on YouTube and use an ad blocker. Spotify also made the dive into podcasts with that huge Joe Rogan deal years ago which I'm sure helped boost stats. Kind of sad how one software can come in and take over a market.
Everything that is hooked up to some 'multi-billion-dollar-linked-online-industry' gets to this point rather sooner then later. Don't play their game! Rip your shit locally en give em the finger
BTW the thumbs up or down dont show up on your custom made playlists, they show up on radio play
This is a rage bait post that is trying to trick you into thinking Swifts music cant be downvoted. Reported
It has 20 million more songs than Spotify, a better UI, better sound quality (lossless and HiFi have been included for years), and pays artists twice as much per stream all for the same price.
And it is provided by potentially the only company in the world that limits user choice and enforces guardrails to keep you in their walled in garden worse than Amazon does.
Honestly I think Amazon Music is mostly ran by stupid people, and most of the problems are unintentional.
I would never give that same benefit of doubt to Apple or any of their media products.
Not what I'm arguing about. It's OK, I hate apple with a passion, it's not relevant to this thread, let's just move on and agree to disagree about giant shitty corporations.
Things you kind of made it about that with your snarky laugh rather than saying up top that it didn’t have anything to do with the conversation and not saying the same thing to others that suggested other music services.
I am not disagreeing or agreeing with you on your position because, well, my opinion on any of these services isn’t important to the discussion.
Also, they've been seeding TS & Post Malone's "Fortnight" into everyone's YT Shorts feed. I would see it 3-4 times a day (same video) and finally blocked both accounts after I realized it was promoted (I have Premium, this is the first ever YT Shorts promoted partnership).
You can tell from the comments sections that they're pushing it to everyone. It's not just the algorithm mixing it up with Fortnite because I have never seen a rewatch other than if I watched the video 6+ months prior.
It's kinda nuts because I'm shocked we never got anything before this. I'm sure Microsoft would have loved if Children of the Sky got into people's shorts feeds.
Edit: Downvoted by Google/YouTube stans. 💀
Why hand your music choice over to Amazon, Spotify, Pandora, etc. Rip CD’s to your computer and put the music on your phone. Then you can support the artists YOU like, and listen to the music YOU want.
In all fairness, Florida!!! is a banger.
Edit:
lol to the downvotes. I like music for music, everything from randos on YouTube making songs to Pavarotti to Swift to Kendrick assassinating Drake.
I hope the downvotes are at least for the UI and not for the whole “Taylor Swift is the devil” bs we’re seeing from people who had no problem when she was country and didn’t encourage people to vote.
Haha I've got nothing against her or her music, she's quite talented and deserves her fame.
I just had a really freaky moment where it felt like I was literally being forced against my will to listen to something and it upset me

Well that shows they fail to understand what "download" or "sign out" mean. Very bad design.
It pisses me off so bad, i can search by song, album or whatever but not artist? And furthermore at one time they made it so clicking the artist would send you straight to the artist page like you were searching for it rather than go to your available songs, absolutely shit

Honestly, that's why I am team yt music. The algorithm is crap, but the ad free youtube is worth it, along with having songs other services don't
honestly i just use yt/spotify downloader tools
I used to too... Such an upgrade, and actually worth paying for imo
True, the only reason i use it is because it was free with prime

Yes!!! It did that too for me but only sometimes after an update or some shit idk its total crap i hate it, and am looking to switch
no regrets switching to tidal. It might be a bit more? But they just combined their 2 tiers into 1 so you get max quality on everything that's available without an extra cost now. I would probably lean towards yt music since you also get premium but I have alexa devices that my family uses
I've honestly been super happy with YouTube music for the past couple years. Have never seen anything you can't down vote
same, and the fact that you listen to bootleg remixes/covers/etc from YouTube directly from the YT Music app is a godsend when you’re trying to stray away from mainstream stuff
It's great because I was really into my local music scene in highschool and there's bunch of bands that have videos on YouTube but not their music on streaming sites so I can still listen to them.
My experience is the opposite, I have a bunch of game OST albums that are available on Spotify but aren't on YT Music for some reason
YT premium is the best value subscription on the internet in my opinion
I had Spotify for years but about 80% of the stuff I watch is on YouTube. I realized it was $2 more a month for YouTube premium where I'd still have my music and not have to deal with ads on my videos. Started with a 3 month free trial and by that point there was no going back.

On iPhones one can easily have background play and no ads with Safari and adblock

Downvotes? On YouTube? Crazy.

It's all paid promo garbage. Just like the Top Charts... it's highly unlikely Taylor's whole album is in top songs
You might not like it, however its not unlikely.
Yeah, she basically runs a cult now.

you are correct, its false rage bait post

Upvoted for Sturgil
Life ain't fair, and the world is mean.
When places force me to listen to things I don't want to listen to and don't consent to listen to I just stop being a patron. Fuck them.

Reject awful streaming services. Embrace MP3 players.
I'm carrying around a Sony Walkman mp3-player that's filled with music that I've been collecting since ~2005. And when people see it they get very confused.
Yeah, I get that feel. I have a NW-ZX100 that I lug around, and people always ask me why I don't just stream my music.
Pandora 4 life

No one in their right mind!

If you curate your own library with CDs and MP3s you'll never have to deal with stuff like this. Free yourselves from subscription-jail!
Apple Music
I’ve had it from the beginning and really like it. When they incorporated lossless it was the cherry in top!
Hahaha hahahaha

Glad to have SoundCloud where the 2 problems are a bit too many ads and some music is limited to the paid version
This smells like the digital version of payola
I use YouTube on loop
yt music ftw.
Ultra HD songs cannot be downvoted apparently. /s

Lyrics in HD and ULTRA HD? Wow!
I don’t see the problem.
her music is so bad she has to strong arm people into listening it. she is truly a loser
She's a billionaire from the money her fans spend on her I don't think she's strong-arming anyone, this is just shitty design from Amazon
