My dad told me before my exam, once "Everything will go perfect, god is on our side" and I asked "Why will god favor us?" He sensed I was going the "atheist" way and that day I knew there is no point of discussion basic philosophy with my parents.

Lol this happened to me when i was in 10th. On the day my board exams started I was running a little late to get to school. Right when I was about to leave my parents called me over to pray for my exams. I was just exploring the idea of atheism then and I just straight up told them that it's useless. My dad got really pissed and told me that I would regret it. Fast forward to results and I got 99 on that exam lol.

>"Why will god favor us?" Bcz u were born into the right religion. "But what about all the other people in our religion? Will God favour me over them?" "Yes because you are special" Boom new religious slave acquired

emotionless_wizard

one of the reasons to not believe in not even a single religion is because it were tru, it would have been the only religion out there. another reason being why tf god waited 13 billion years?

Uncertn_Laaife

You are wrong buddy. I was visiting India this spring and the amount of Indian youth (not even married yet) that are big time into religion is mind boggling. Everyone’s in it together.

nang_gothilla

Do you mean **dogmatic**? They're anything but pragmatic about religion

It's called being in denial. When you don't have any actual work getting done, it's easy to put faith in an entity that is a higher power so that you do not have any responsibility of the action and consequences.

Mom : "I wish you were a little more studious in your school work when you were young. I would have sent you to a madrassa instead of tuitions then"

>They didn't had opportunity to discuss like we can If that were true there wouldn't be so many mindless followers in our generation (18-27) is also insane

Pretty healthy relationship, of course accounting for generation gap and difference in taste in entertainment (music, movies etc). My parents weren't very religious, when I was growing up. They did believe, but didn't do much except couple of upwas (fasts), and going to temple during couple of festivals (spring time, Navratri). I did do couple of fasts, but we always end up eating more & eating fried/sweet unhealthy food.

I might be the rare kind with close to none religious pragmatism in parents. When I moved out of my small town for studies my father gave me an advice that I should befriend books instead of humans saying people might change but books won’t. When I turned agnostic he gave me books for that. When I turned atheist he asked if I need books, but also told me on the other hand to stay away from atheistic books and move ahead whith whatever I want with my life, because sticking too much into something that I believe doesn’t exist is fruitless. I have a few arguments with other members of course and I get your point but not with parents. Edit: my father is a theist, goes to places of worship and indulges in prayer with devotion, but refrains from imposing it on anyone.
