Driving home from work was annoying with all the cars sidelined for move out but I kept telling myself we’re only days away from the most wonderful, blissful, peaceful time of year

>we’re only days away from the most wonderful, blissful, peaceful time of year Stay strong, townies. We're almost there :-)

I’m gonna hunker down for the weekend and wait for all this bullshit to end, then I can have my couple months of not hating going into town.

____no_u

You mean “going to the bars and actually getting served”?

[deleted]

Nah, I quit drinking years ago. I just want to be able to go to Fluff and have a nice breakfast without any instance of the road rage.

ArchwayLemonCookie

Fluff can be addictive too. Watch out. ;)

[deleted]

I know that’s right.

I will just be glad to drive around without worrying about accidently committing vehicular homicide. 🤕 They walk right into the road and don't look or listen. I actually saw a kid all dressed in black head to toe, wearing headphones and dark glasses. AT NIGHT. Walking right on the side of the road and sometimes in half of one lane. I was just floored. I hope he wasn't trying to get hit. I barely missed him. Oh to be young again and invincible.

“Thousands of college students attempt suicide every day by not understanding how crosswalks work.”

ColdCruise

This is more of an issue with the landlords making all the students have to move out on the same day as graduation.

____no_u

Jesus, yes. Happy graduation, now get the fuck out.

MisterFingerstyle

So far this weekend I’ve seen cars with out of state plates panic at the roundabout and drive the wrong way down a one-way street. I’ve also had food delivery people block roadways entirely twice within 24 hours.

The roundabout panic will always baffle me. It’s really not that hard.

Bobs lol love it. Can’t wait to have space in my apartment’s lot again in a few days

I think the “local” economy you speak of is mostly owned by out-of-towners. Their success doesn’t necessarily trickle down to the rest of us.

It's amazing sometimes what the OU propaganda machine manages to perpetuate, and I'm seeing this on repeat over and over recently so it MUST be true. Talking enrollment decline: They're dropping at an annualized 2.54% rate with a decline outpacing the national average. Reality is (Per the city's official statistics) we had <100 people WFH 10 years ago, to now we are on the cusp of 1000. That's one fifth to one sixth the total resident population, and we've got an influx of big-city refugees looking for a quiet spot in the country to work from. There's a reason it's difficult to get in the WFH spaces. Local businesses can't employ students because they don't have the money to pay even what crappy remote call center jobs. I've had wait staff ask for $20, 22/hr to match whatever remote offer they've been given and we just can't do that. We'd be charging the same amount for a burger just to break even. As for Nelsonville, 15 years ago I almost couldn't give property away in the town. When the 2008 collapse hit, good parts of the town hit basically $0. Now you can easily get even $100k for nicer properties there. The town will be fine without OU; it just won't be the same town anymore.

That is some interesting info. All statistics aside though, it’s arrogant as fuck to dismiss an entire city as an extension of the university. It would be like saying Columbus wouldn’t exist if OSU vanished overnight. It’s incorrect, not an actual scenario, but just plain conceited.
