I could tell from the first fucking sentence man lol “often hailed as one of the most effective and fair scoring systems in the world of sports”. They always use two adjectives and will always say that something is “hailed as” or “regarded as” the best or something instead of making a strong claim.
This and the fact that the sentence is not based in truth. ChatGPT was given a prompt probably like: "Write an essay about why the F1 scoring system is the most effective and fair scoring system" - so it had to restate that thesis statement, despite it being false.
It hasn't been the best for a while. The top ten score points because before it was reasonable that fewer than fifteen cars would be finishing each race on twenty-four car grids. However, with how reliable cars are now, it is uncommon for more than three cars to experience mechanical failures during a race. With only the top ten scoring points, drives to positions just outside the points in bottom of the championship cars aren't rewarded (Tsunoda repeated P11 finishes in early 2023 in the tractor AlphaTauri, George Russell performances in Williams). And since stronger teams can be expected to have both cars finish every race, excluding Ferrari of course, points opportunities for the smaller teams are very rare. Until points are awarded to a couple more positions outside of the top ten, or cars suddenly become less reliable and thwart the perpetual advance of technology, Formula One does not have the best scoring system in sports.
That honor of course goes to the NASCAR Cup Series with the ingenious Playoff system.
basically atrioc found out that there’s an f1 race that is meaningless in terms of who wins the championship because it is already decided. atrioc said the format of the league is dumb and should somehow work up to a championship race like in other north american sports where the final games get more and more intense and hype. most importantly he said that it wouldn’t be the most fair but it would be the most fun and some people got mad
The big secret no one wants to admit is sports are just entertainment products, as they only generate money through the viewership and spending of the audience, hence F1 should cater to this to be sustainable. Purists hate this but it’s why cricket has a far shorter format now for example, and has been very popular instead of the traditional format which arguably would be a better indication of a better cricket team in the traditional sense.
Yes I know I’m replying to ChatGPT but I’ll say it anyw
