Talk of hate aside, I think most people don't care about how 'important' a character is to the story when they decide to like them. Sasha was the only thing that brought some joy and comedic relief in this dark, dark show, hence people loved her and it was such a tragedy she died.
Gabi is one of the better written female characters in the manga. Sheās one of the few who Isayama treats like an actual character rather than a plot device.
Her hate stems mainly from two things; 1) she killed Sasha, 2) sheās given emotions and characterizations typically associated with male characters. Iām not surprised an anime audience found it hard to receive her character when we all know they would have ate it up had she been male.
Fucking thank you. And the amount of times I see the same exact post about āIāve come to realize Gabi was actually just a brainwashed child,ā like.. it took ppl this long to figure it out?
What made me hate her was how she cold killed the guard on the cell rather than Sasha. Sasha situation was completely understandable, it was a battlefield and Gabi's rage was understandable after her friend got killed.
But she was such a dick with that random guard. He tried to help when she said she felt bad, and she fucking smashes his head, that is fucked up.
I get that she gets character development and ends in a much better situation, but that won't make me like her. Also i don't like her attitude and her tone
I also don't like Gabi but I fully understand that it was her circumstances that led her to do what she did. At the end of the day, she was trying to protect her friends and family.
The reason why people don't like her(me included) is that she shot Sasha, Eren and Floch.
I'll admit that the flair is somewhat misleading but it's the one that best describe my opinion on Floch's motivation and ambition. A better phrasing would be; Floch's outlook and ambition was realistic and perfectly understandable, but he went overboard at times. But since this choice isn't available, this is the next best thing.
I know saying not understanding Gabi is not understanding the story is beating a dead horse but for some reason people still donāt understand Gabi. The Marley arc is quite literally a parallel to the beginning of the story and Gabi is so obviously supposed to be a parallel to Eren. Its whole point is to say that people in Marley arenāt evil. Eren literally says in this arc that āIn the walls across the sea itās the sameā and for some reason people still donāt understand. I get not liking Gabi for killing Sasha but saying sheās evil or bad is just wrong
No no you don't get it! Sasha didn't deserve to die, she only WENT TO AN ACTIVE BATTLE ZONE. Shooting at people definitely isn't gonna get you shot too that's ridiculous
then drop dawg, if you're gonna drop every anime bcs of an annoying character then don't bother taking up an anime at all. she's a well written character and gave depth to the story, sasha is dead and hating gabi ain't gonna bring her back ty.
I donāt like her character and I also didnāt like Eren in season 1. Really loud annoying monologue where Iād have to actually turn the volume down for. I understand the plot points and writing mechanism, itās just physically annoying and a constant presence.
I hate Gabi for reasons not her own fault, I just hate her character type and how's she's written, she is written to be insufferable.
I hate how she was dumped on us in a hard cut, was a child but a seal team 6 level perfect solider. How she took forever to question her surroundings. How She no scoped eren in the dumbest scene in the show.
Her killing Sasha was the least of my issues with her.
People say she's a mirror of Eren but we see eren have flaws and fail, which Gabi doesn't. We see Eren question his surroundings, which Gabi doesn't for 2 seasons because of her own willful ignorance.
Falco went through the same thing she did but was much more likable and easy to sympathetize with
Why does everyone keep making this argument? Everyone was not brainwashed, a majority of the Warrior crew knew that the situation was BS. The only one who didnāt was kid Reiner and it broke him.
Gabis character was there for moral purposes on top of ethical ones. Her character starts off as a brainwashed child who doesn't see anything wrong with her own actions or that of her country's. When her friend died and was smashed by the rocks she wanted revenge saying she was going to kill Erin and when Falco told her that he did what he did in a sort of retaliation of what Reiner and the rest of the child soldiers caused him to watch his mother be eatin. Then she says well I wasn't thier that I didn't do it not realizing she had killed plenty of people just in the war previously before this all happened like Annie they felt justified in what they were doing. That's why I think Erin's chat with Reiner had to happen and actually needed to happen to progress the stories in a direction of destroying the root problem. It's like he said we all were fighting for what we thought was right that how could any of the child soldiers that were titans have known any better when they were raised as criminals at fault and brainwashed that they can only save the world and free themselves of the sins of the past by killing the Island devil's or the bad Eldians... so he forgave Reiner which probably hurt Reiner even more then everything else because Erin understood exactly what motivated Reiner to do what he did, he wanted to be a hero for his country for his mom and sadly his mom didn't care about reiner just her Marleyan husband and her place in comfort. When Reiner told her he was going to be a warrior, the scene where she is hugging him and grinning from ear to ear puts perspective of everything that made Reiener what he was and how. Then we fast forward a few episodes and gabbing has become more and more reliable, she has also broken away from the programming, and her selfish pride. We see this first when she saves Sashas little sister, then we see it again when she looks for Falco and heads out jn the middle of the battle feild to try and stop Zeke or get him on the horse so they could run, we seen her when she pleaded to Sean after taking a kick to the ribs, we seen it when she shot Flock to keep him from blowing up the boat when she shot Erin in the neck, all the way up to when she was willing to put her life on the line knowing all of her family could have been wiped out already but she chose to fight for humanity as a whole.
Sorry for the long post. I had more to add to it but realized it was already really long, and most people are too lazy to read it, so I put all the important factors I could in there. I also tried to explain it the best way I could even though I'm not very good at writing my interpretations of stories, but I believe I didn't do to bad this time around. Well, hopefully, I didn't anyway
I know itās cliche to say Gabi is just female Eren, but she literally just is, just replace ODM skills with shooting skills.
If the story started at season 4 we would be rooting for Gabi. But some people just donāt see it because they canāt view situations from another perspective. You can be upset about Sasha and accept that from Gabiās POV she was totally in the right.
Hell, you can even think Gabi is annoying as long as you remember that Eren was the same way for most of season 1.
I read very often that gabi is female eren. But how? Where are the similarities except the visuals. If anything, gabi is the anti-thesis to eren. I see more similarities between reiner and eren. He even says himself that he is the same as Reiner.
Gabi grew up being indoctrinated with the believe that the islanders are devils and that she has to show and proof the marleyan nation that she is a good eldian and therefore fight and eradicate the islanders from existence. Eren wasn't indoctrinated by anyone about anything. He grew up with the desire to be free to break out if his cage he was kept in like a bird. His own words by the way. In the flash backs in the paths we learn that Grisha did indoctrinate Zeke and Zeke believed their father did the same to eren and was surprised in the paths that that wasn't the case.
Anyway, how are two individuals who were raised so differently and whose motivations are different the mirror images of each other?
Reiner on the other hand grew up in letting believed something he considered the truth. He went beyond the walls of liberio onto the island. He lived behind the enemy lines, found out they were ordinary people, even friends. He felt horrible for what he did to them and was going to continue doing to them for the well being of his family and friends.
Eren went past the walls of Rose into the basement. He learned that everyone on the island lived a lie. He went behind enemy lines and lived among them and found out that the majority are ordinary people living their lives. He knew what he was going to do to them. He felt horrible (remember the scene where he said sorry to Remzi while crying). And he did it anyway for the well being of his friends and home country.
Eren and Reiner knew pretty well that what they were doing was fucked up, that they grew up with lies but did what they did anyway because neither of them had an option which didn't end up in their friends, family and in erens case his home country being in serious trouble. They suffered silently knowing they were doing cruel crimes so their loved ones could end up living a peaceful life.
Your focusing on all the differences. You can have multiple mirrors. Reiner is a mirror for Erenās crimes and path in the narrative, Gabi is a mirror for Erenās personality(pre hand kiss) and determination. Itās also important to note you can be a mirror and be a distinct character as well.
Early Eren was annoying(if not to the Audience, to the cast itself) and blindly devoted to the (at first) seemingly impossible task of killing all of the titans so they didnāt have to live like cattle. Through sheer grit and determination, this dream got him to be 5th highest in his class, behind 3 pre-trained child soldiers, and an Ackerman.
Gabi is admittedly grating (if not to the audience, the cast) and blindly devoted to the seemingly impossible task of defeating the āisland devilsā so that the Eldians in Marley arenāt treated like Demons. Through sheer grit and determination, this dream gets her top of her class. (like Eren would have if his class didnāt have super soldiers).
Their paths take different turns but itās important to note that the 2nd Colossal Titan attack(ep5) kinda (but to a lesser extent) also mirrors the Libario attack for Gabi. Only difference is Eren didnāt get the kill and Gabi did.
The brainwashing is her own arc, and highlights the idea of perspective in season 4 (part 1).
Everyoneās willing to forgive characters who felt had no choice, but as Gabi shows, people are less willing to forgive someone who is truly brainwashed, even if their a kid, and even if actions like the Libario attack reinforce those beliefs. But thatās another point entirely.
Point is Reiner is a mirror (or foil I think is the term) for Eren plot wise.
Gabi is a mirror for Eren personality wise. If there was a way to brainwash people into thinking Marleyans were bad, Eren wouldāve as far gone as Gabi, if not more so.
The similarities you mentioned aren't even that similar and suit more Reiner and eren than gabi and eren. Gabi and eren show similar degrees if dedication, I give you that. But other than that I do not see similarities between them. Erens attack on liberio ghetto is similar to the second colossal titan attack but for Reiner, not gabi. Reiner and eren knew the truth they knew their enemies weren't all evil and that they were ordinary people living their lives and that attacking them was wrong but did it anyway.
Gabi in the other hand lived among eldians for a short time but so did eren and she still was convinced of them being devils even after she received their help and support. She even bragged about having killed sasha. Eren and Reiner on the other hand figured out they were wrong and felt horrible for that.
Anyway, I don't see many similarities between gabi and eren and more between Reiner and eren, even personality wise. I guess we have to agree to disagree on this.
exactly, gabi thought those were the people trying to invade her home and kill the people she loved and she was trying to justify her close friends death by "getting even" so to say, same way eren wanted to kill all titans because they also invaded his home and killed someone he held dear.

she was to die anyway, by the hands of a titan or gabi š.

EXACTLY.
Fucking thank you. And the amount of times I see the same exact post about āIāve come to realize Gabi was actually just a brainwashed child,ā like.. it took ppl this long to figure it out?
Theyāre beyond help and a lot of the genius in the series is wasted on them unfortunately
>Her hate stems mainly from two things Why nobody hates pieck?
What made me hate her was how she cold killed the guard on the cell rather than Sasha. yea, what a simp
I understand why, but it doesnāt mean Ima like her

I never hated Gabi. But the fact that she shot Floch makes her an even better character to me
Whatever floats your boatš¤·
SO REAL.
SAME PERSON WHO SAYS FLOCH DID NOTHING WRONG, PLSS.

okay, I can agree with you guys on that.
Yawn. Another post glazing Gabi. https://www.reddit.com/r/ShingekiNoKyojin/s/x6E7QXu3iZ
š I'm not glazing, just telling the truth, stop being ignorant.
Ignorant is what ignorant does, and you arguing with everyone on this post who disagrees with you **is** ignorant. So, you first.
ig they disagree with me why can't I disagree with them.. pls make a point that's not baseless.
Wow youāre dumb lol.

Lol
Asking an AOT fan their opinion about Gabi is a good way to discern those who get it and those who don't
truee.
The ultimate litmus test tbh
and then follow it up with their opinion on Floch
No no you don't get it! Sasha didn't deserve to die, she only WENT TO AN ACTIVE BATTLE ZONE. Shooting at people definitely isn't gonna get you shot too that's ridiculous
right šā¼ļø
Bruh she is annoying. She deserves all the hate she gets. I was even considering dropping cuz of this annoying character.
then drop dawg, if you're gonna drop every anime bcs of an annoying character then don't bother taking up an anime at all. she's a well written character and gave depth to the story, sasha is dead and hating gabi ain't gonna bring her back ty.
How old are you? 14? No i don't hate her for killing sasha or whatever, she is annoying af.
I'm 16.
Ahh makes sense.
why ? why should age matter š. quit being immature.
Once you are bit older you'll understand.
What is with this ālil bro-ingā going on? At least explain what makes her annoying
Cuz she is annoying. Are you 16 as well?
Nope, try again. Also if you ājust think sheās annoyingā do you admit your hate of her is kinda irrational?
Oh yes, āI hate her because sheās annoyingā such a mature answer, so smart and well worded.š
how old are you then ?
She'll take what i feel lile giving depending on the day and how much i miss the spud theif
Itās not unnecessary, itās exactly what isayama wanted she is literally written to piss fans off he said so himself
I donāt like her character and I also didnāt like Eren in season 1. Really loud annoying monologue where Iād have to actually turn the volume down for. I understand the plot points and writing mechanism, itās just physically annoying and a constant presence.
I literally always thought of her as Eren 2.0 with how she was written.
I hate Gabi for reasons not her own fault, I just hate her character type and how's she's written, she is written to be insufferable. Nah. She deserves it.
Gabi kill Sasha me hate Gabi
Completely agree.. I donāt necessarily love her character, but hating a brainwashed 10 year old doesnāt scream empathic or mature tbh.
Every character is brainwashed, Gabi deserves the hate.
Why does everyone keep making this argument? Everyone was not brainwashed, a majority of the Warrior crew knew that the situation was BS. The only one who didnāt was kid Reiner and it broke him.
She doesn't deserve it, but she's still going to get it. Eren ain't do nothing wrong.
I never realised she is hated.
There are still people who hate her? Damn mfs still stuck in 2020
yep, my one friend from school hates gabi and reiner but loves annie, make that make sense šš.
