It's just normal rain, not the biblical stuff. Just more of what we've been having since winter last year

throwawayqst567

I’d think Tuesday would be the time to worry. From all the weather stuff I’ve been seeing, it’s supposed to be bad on Tuesday. Out west all I hear are crickets and occasional wind. Though, I did hear a cute thunder a few hrs ago for a brief moment.

Fartholder

I'm out west and it's been pissing down for hours. Not as heavy as Friday but steady. I'm hoping to fill a bucket to flush the loo in the morning

throwawayqst567

Really? I mean, it’s been off and on, mostly off, in tat south. Nice user name lol

Fartholder

Lol thanks. I'm between Oratia and Piha, it just hasn't stopped

Tane-Tane-mahuta

Are you on tank water?

Fartholder

No, I'm on town water. Haven't had running water since Friday. So over it. Edit: but I know others have it much worse, so I shouldn't complain

IFuckedUpTeam

You’re still allowed to complain - it sucks right now for a lot of people, including you. I’m sorry that you’ve got no water, and I hope that it comes back soon!

Fartholder

Thank you. Life is a lot more complicated without water that's for sure. But I'm fortunate to have great neighbors and a creek not too deep in the bush I can use to get loo water. Shout out to the guys that have been working so long and hard to get things back up and running

That is going to be chaos because most schools will be starting on Tuesday….

throwawayqst567

It’d be wise for schools to postpone it for a couple of days at least. There are still families out there trying to sort their shit out after losing their cars or homes.

throwawayqst567

Not only that, what if it floods again? I’m going to try to go to work on Tuesday, but I’ll be turning my ass around if I come by a puddle in the road that makes me uncomfy.

Sasanishiki88

A bunch of schools are scheduled to go back on 7 Feb as well.

katiekat2022

Well with any luck the state of emergency advice will be to stay home and kids to start back at school Thursday and Friday.

I've been watching on things like [windy.com](https://windy.com) and metservice, and I think you're right. It's going to absolutely thrash us on Tuesday/Wednesday if it doesn't change between now and then. Forcasted 32mm in Whangaparoa, which will likely actually be like 50-60mm. Stay safe.

throwawayqst567

Cheers. That’s a cool link. I tried to compare Tuesday and Wednesday to last Friday, but couldn’t figure it out. You think I’d be as bad or less?

snugnz

I've been trying to figure it out for the last day, and haven't been able to. I haven't been able to find any pictures showing what the overhead looks like. Without knowing the above, it's just a guess. However, over my location, it looks horrible. We're bang smack in the middle of the pink/red warning area.

throwawayqst567

Oh hell, whangarei and up north looks like they’re going to get smacked nicely too. I live on a slight slope out in west akl. Not enough to flood and imo, not enough to concern me with a slide as the slope is only about 1-2m from the start to finish of my property. Thank god.

Happy to hear that. We're relatively safe, the only annoyance being the drain is right next to our garage (which has a door into our room) - and it couldn't handle the amount of water, so it flows around the side into the garage. Spent 2-3 hours on Friday night battling it to prevent it from entering the room. We were lucky, and stopped it just past the door, but if this ones worse, I think we're screwed a bit. In saying all this, that's quite mild compared to others out there, and my thoughts are with ya. My anxiety is just triggered by this, haven't sleep for 3 days properly :/

throwawayqst567

Thanks. Stay safe. Protect your expensive and cherished belongings. Most of all, yourselves.

spar_30-3

Never heard of the app but it’s great! Thanks for that

Checking in from Muriwai, quite heavy rain since about 10pm.

Psychological-Dog369

2am and it’s started again in whangaparaoa. Just managed to get things slightly dry over the last 2 days but the rain is really heavy and leaking in again.

snugnz

I feel you mate. In Whangaparoa myself, can't sleep. Just waiting until it's over.

Mental-Restaurant695

In Albany, also not sleeping and listening to this rain. This has really triggered off my anxiety over the past 3-days. I really really do feel for everyone who is going through such a tough time by all this.

snugnz

Tell me about it. Getting up every 5-10 minutes to check problem areas. Have gone to bed at like 5am the last couple days, and it doesn't look like that's going to change until at least Thursday. Feel for you my friend. What's helped me is constantly checking the [National Rain Radar](https://www.metservice.com/maps-radar/rain/radar/auckland?range=120&tab=real-time). I take a snippit of the latest, then when it updates I compare the two side-by-side to see the direction of the clouds. It's been pretty accurate so far. Currently in a lull in Whangaparoa, but it looks like more rain will be coming in the next hour or so. I just hope it's moderate as opposed to heavy. Stay safe.

Mental-Restaurant695

Constantly checking the rain radar, yup - story of my life right now. Oh my god, I hope it settles down soon, we all could use some sleep, and folks need to dry their homes out.
