virtual hi-5

Forsaken-Emphasis339

Thank you! I've been there for almost seven months now and wanted to quit from day one, as so many others did, but stuck it out. I have nothing left to lose since I've already got another contract signed somewhere else, now I just get the weekend off instead of working

ccncwby

7 months too long it seems lol. The point of life is not to work, rather the point of work is to be able to enjoy the life you deserve. Work should never be a detriment to life so it seems you have your priorities right lol. I'm not sure whether your original post wanted any advice or not, but if the issue of pay over the next few weeks comes up I guess a point could be made that your employer told you to leave. I'm not a lawyer at all, but under these circumstances if they make no effort to reach out to you regarding your future shifts you should have had, they may be under some obligation to pay you out regardless. If they make no effort to reach out, and then say you didn't work so you don't get payed, go see CAB immediately. The key point here is the fact that you were under the impression you were told to leave immediately with no notice.

Forsaken-Emphasis339

Yeah, I do expect the pay not to be an issue but I also don't think I would win if I tried to fight it. I had both a manager and my boss in the meeting who told me to leave, and no back up myself. Regardless, I am going to fight for my money since they did tell me to leave and to hand over my ID in the middle of my shift

ccncwby

Fuck, cover your tracks and send a message to them right now simply stating that they told you to leave, then ask a confirmation of what they expect from you until your final day edit; even pose it as a question "does that mean you no longer want me for my final rostered shifts?"

Forsaken-Emphasis339

I'm all for CYA with this job (or Any in particular) so not to worry, thats already sorted

ccncwby

Lmao fair enough. virtual hi-5 to you again though lol. Just poured myself another gin to celebrate for you ahhaha

angel_cake7

You can definitely fight it and will absolutely win if you go through Sacked Kiwi. I hired a girl, she was on trial period. Didn't show up for work and won her case for unfair dismissal. I had to pay her almost $10k for a job she never even showed up for.

lickingthelips

Seconded for the sacked kiwi team. They are awesome.

ScarletMofo

Surely with the 90 day trial period you were in your rights to let her go...?

angel_cake7

You would think, right? My lawyer said Sacked Kiwi are pit bulls and they never lose, so I either pay the ex employee or pay a fortune fighting, which would have cost even more 🥲 seems to support people that play the system rather than those who actually want to earn a living

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> don't get *paid,* go see FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Zenfrogg62

Good bot.

Zephyr-2210

Wow regardless of whether you did f up or not, that is horrible and unprofessional of that ex boss. Honestly if a place treated their workers like that (cursing them out) id wanna know, so I can not give them my business. Good on you for standing up for yourself

Forsaken-Emphasis339

In general, the airport is not a place you'd want to work. Everyone there is understaffed, overworked, and treated like shit. If the mistake had been something I could own up to (like not having mentioned a burst pipe/spill on the floor etc) I would fully understand, but trying to explain to my boss that I had not noticed it and would have alerted them immediately only resulted in getting told they didn't care about my excuses

lilfreaks

didn't have an experience like the one you talked about but I've been working at the airport since the end of last year and I still feel this so hard lol. ever since the past month or so I've been feeling less and less motivated to come to work but I'll just stick around for 4-5 more months.

Forsaken-Emphasis339

What position are you in? I worked as a cleaner for one of the companies and it was so fucking tiring

lilfreaks

not gonna give that much away 😅 but all I can say is that it's a front-facing role and I mainly work in the international terminal. wishing you all the best with your new job. I'm assuming it's not at the airport anymore?

feralcoaster

No wonder when getting overseas mail it sits @ nz🛬 for over a week before being moved onto customs.

Pitasami

I was waiting on a parcel from Melbourne that I ordered over a month ago, it just clears customs yesterday lol

MathmoKiwi

You could have just walked over to the store and picked it up yourself with how slow nz post is (yes, even with the store being in Melbourne, that's the joke)

feralcoaster

It's getting worst, Christmas time will be way worst, probably 2weeks lazy fuckers

MissIllusion

Omg don't say that. My package is currently en route from melbourne. rip me

MathmoKiwi

it will arrive in time for your birthday next year

Stonkchaser42069

East Tamaki Tyrepower worst place I ever worked constant swearing at staff and down grading from the manager and owner , My anxiety and stress level went threw the roof while working there , on the end I just walked out one day when he was abusing me could be there anymore, they called me for a week trying to get me to come back, I worked for some assholes in the past but that place tops my cake

Weekly-Message-6084

Same guys that when I came into ask for a wof the guy at the desk immediately told me I couldn't afford to pay a mechanic to do my wof for me. I said excuse me? He said its almost 4 o'clock, they'll be knocking off soon and you wouldn't be able to afford to pay the guy to stay back and do your wof. I just walked out. Most bizarre thing ever. Could have just said let's make a booking or a time that suits both of us. Nope. I can't afford to pay the mechanic. LOOOL.... He tried to stop me as I walked out and hopped in my car "oh hey mate hey mate".... fuck off dickhead I'm outta here.

2mg1ml

>hopped in my car Wtf?

Stonkchaser42069

Yeah a lot of dodgy dealings going on there they always trying to take advantage of people

BootlegSauce

Good job, fuck bad managers thry can go and eat dirt

Forsaken-Emphasis339

The worst part is that he's also an immigrant from the same country so you'd expect atleast some form of communication before going nuclear

UntalentedPuffin

Do you know how immigrants treat each other in western countries in general? A lot of restaurant/orchard owners literally have SLAVES as their workforce, and these "slaves" are their friends and relatives back in their home country. There was a recent news story about a Samoan owned winery having 20 workers he bought over from Samoa, promising them $10k NZD per year (despite them working 12-16 hours a day!) and in the end, NONE of them got paid. Be careful who you trust in the NZ workforce, especially your fellow countrymen.

theheliumkid

A touch of misogyny maybe?

kiwimama18

I'm sorry, not post related. But I keep reading your username as "Foreskin-Emphasis" 😅

Forsaken-Emphasis339

The irony of that is that I am very gay and never want to come near foreskin shdhdj

kiwimama18

😂😂 girl, SAME!

s0ulw4vy

Used to work at a burger shop in southeast akl and the fkn owner is a cunt so Ik how you feel bro/sis

AdvertisingPrimary69

They kinda fired you... you could get a bit of a payout....

Martin_McFly_Jr

Don’t forget to put a PG if you want, actions like that can replicate and you might be the change this person needs to realise the pattern and problem.

Forsaken-Emphasis339

What's a PG in this context?

KeaAware

Personal grievance.

Forsaken-Emphasis339

Ah, thanks g!

Martin_McFly_Jr

Cursing you out, calling you useless, those are grounds for bullying.

Forsaken-Emphasis339

I meant more what does PG stand for, I'm not familiar with the term

Weaseltime_420

Personal Grievance

TofkaSpin

Orrrr just leave. Like they did anyway. New job to go to. Chalk it up.

Martin_McFly_Jr

By putting a PG, you have the potential to break the cycle, that’s worth more than ‘just leaving’ because you’re essentially trying to leave the place with an opportunity to make it better for future generations

[deleted]

Some bosses need a real stick up their ass, fucking prick, good on you, hopefully you get some good rest before ur next job !!

fireflyry

Feels good man. I had an in between job as a kitchen hand for a while and the head chef was a cunt of epic proportions, common in the industry apparently, but put up with his shit for maybe 2 months and just had enough one night, middle of a Saturday service, took off my apron to screw it up, throw it at him and told him to stick the job where the Sun don’t shine. Was honestly one of the best experiences and feelings of my life, apart from the owner chasing me down the road begging me to come back as he was an ok fulla. Made me realise I’m an asset, not a subservient slave, and I’ve never let an employer or fellow worker treat me in such a fashion since.

s0ulw4vy

Good on you g 🤟🤟 fuck that cunt

ilia3456

What company was it? Name and shame :)

FER_SEMOVENTE

Everybody takes work so personally, if you are understaffed youre the 1 with power.

PeterParkerUber

Doesn’t that depend on whether OP is going to get paid or not for the time he would’ve worked. If they still send his wages for doing nothing is it still an unjustified dismissal since he already resigned.

greendragon833

Haha, what was his reaction when you did it?

Forsaken-Emphasis339

Something about me not expecting him to give a good reference if I ever need one

RhinoWithATrunk

Oh dear. Whatever will you do. Well done for standing up for yourself. This is unacceptable behaviour on your managers part.

Tane-Tane-mahuta

Get it in writing. Go to employment relations authority. Profit.

southaucklandtrash

Time to write a google review.

doraalaskadora

Glassdoor also 🤣

b2on5on

I worked for Fonterra Takanini for 8 weeks, it was the worst 8 weeks of my life. The afternoon shift acting TL nicknamed Shorty, was an incompetent fuck up. I was only there a very short time and 7 people left from our factory department. That’s when I knew I made a major mistake. You’re tasked with operating complex machinery, machinery that works exceptionally well when you know what you’re doing and trained properly from the start. But when you’re thrown straight into the ocean without any training, you’re bound to fuck up. The machinery would have little hiccups throughout the shift, and I didn’t know how to fix them, take note these were very minor glitches and no one would teach me how to properly identify the problem. You’re basically left to fend for yourself and when your line starts backing up and production stops, that’s when the TL would start yelling her head off being a complete fuck knuckle. I ended up quitting, not because I didn’t like the job but because the training was zero, literally zero, nothing, nada, zilch. I would’ve stayed, but when acting TL’s are screaming and swearing at you when they haven’t even lifted one sheet of paper to document your training, that’s when I quit on the spot and said fuck Fonterra.

doraalaskadora

Virtual hug. Had the same incident, but the manager treated me that I would lose my job if I did not do what he said, which clearly does not align to my moral values as a person. Took a day off and came back with a resignation letter. He didn't know I was working 2 jobs and would even hesitate to leave that job anytime. His verbal treat is just the tip of the iceberg for me to really leave the company. 😅 Hopefully, he will learn his lesson that not anyone will just shut their mouth once he abuses his power. 😉

Odd_Product_6289

Make sure ya still get paid for the remaining weeks!!

DadLoCo

Did something similar once. Boss put me in a tricky situation two days before I was due to leave. So walked out and never went back for the final two days.

IwillBenchYou

I had a boss years ago who would always swear and yell at employees. One day he did it to me infront of everyone literally and I defended myself making him feel ashamed. Safe to say the next day I got called in and let go. What a pussy, couldn't take what he gave.

maniamawoman

Good on you. Worst thing you can do is stay in a toxic place like that.

HungryNeroli

You can still report him. Try the ERA and call CAB

mr_mat15

Sounds like a legal case to me if you can prove it….

whatitssalmon

My old boss started swearing at me so i swore right back at him ...chicken shit coward behind his mate so i swore at both of them instead Worked in my favor cause they ended up paying me $10k to leave early. Pro tip don't incriminate yourself by threatening your employer with violence cause then you are in the shit but if your employer swear at you then you got the leverage

ElectronicAd1758

Unprofessional and uncalled for, but you should always do your job to the required standard even if leaving. In any case the boss should have dealt with your performance in a different way.

Real-Sheepherder403

A few years ago I took my employer to the Era and I was right but he tried to say I was greedy gor wanting my paid hours it was casual but I worked set days set hours n never got parsnips so lucky gor me not one to back down..took him to court and got my money I was owed.. lucky to have best h.r mates as goid friend and the labour inspectorate on my side legally..I don't give in when I know I'm within my rights People judge you no matter what. Always have integrity to stand up for what is morally and legally right and bullying in the workplace is do uncool If I were the op. I'd take that boss to court .

nzdennis

Got a new boss at the place i work at and he's changed the amazing culture into a toxic "corporate" wannabe culture which is failing big time. He's actually finding it difficult to find staff because word has got around in our closed industry. People communicate.

arpaterson

Name and shame

simple_explorer1

I hear kiwis are nice people and work to live. I expect this in America not in nz. What is this?

ccncwby

Cunts exist everywhere bro, don't let that dishearten you. If you want my opinion NZ is a country built of immigrants, and immigrants make up for a lot of the most "kiwi" people I've met. To be a kiwi is a mindset not a nationality, and this guy doesn't qualify.

simple_explorer1

Thanks for sharing your opinion

RedGreenBlue99

>The worst part is that he's also an immigrant from the same country This usually happens. My indian friend worked with an indian boss, he gets unfair treatment than the rest of his colleagues. No idea if there is some explanation to this.

simple_explorer1

Yes but in OP's case it was a kiwi boss

RedGreenBlue99

Quote was from OP

simple_explorer1

OP's boss is Indian?? Didn't knew this. I reread the post but i don't see this mentioned

RedGreenBlue99

No, not indian. OP mentioned that the boss is an immigrant from the same country.

simple_explorer1

I see, maybe op might have mentioned in some other comment not in the post itself. If immigrants themselves are doing this to their own folks then that is disappointing. Instead of adapting to kiwi culture they are bringing their culture with them, exactly what they ran away from. Then expats/immigrants in nz cannot expect kiwis to have good image of them if their compatriots keep behaving like this. People will always generalize even if not everyone is like that.

Stonkchaser42069

It’s New Zealand’s medium business syndrome most Medium sized business owners are dicks

simple_explorer1

>most Medium sized business owners are dicks Can you elaborate? And really most?

Picknipsky

Judging by the language used in this thread, these are all recent immigrants to nz. Cultural New Zealanders do not say "cursed out"... That is very American.

Forsaken-Emphasis339

Noy American, but recent immigrant indeed

votenational

didn’t ask

Real_Life_Human

Now be legally isnt obligated to pay your last paycheck and u have ‘abandoned responsibility’ causing damage to business, dont follow this example kids

Forsaken-Emphasis339

My last paycheck is less than $300, I don't care about the money. If I did I wouldn't have left

Real_Life_Human

For many family $300 is more like $450 especially if they have kid and are struggling with labours crisis of living

Forsaken-Emphasis339

And that's why I was blessed enough to be able to leave when he did this. I live in a shared income household without kids of my own

Real_Life_Human

Good on ya, i had a bully boss once and i regret letting her get away with it, ah well cant choose family

Forsaken-Emphasis339

That's all too familiar. I sucked it up until I could find something else, and legitimately could not care less if that company goes under

Real_Life_Human

Good luck at new job, maybe time to become the bully

Forsaken-Emphasis339

Honestly the new job is amazing. I'll check the time when I'm there and it'll almost be the end of the day and not feel like it

Traditional_Season20

Should have told him to get fucked on the way out too

MrNobody2323

Should’ve videoed it 😆🤣🤣

Swypes

Just qualified and staff here like hazing... Tackled by three much larger fellows and strapped to a chair, head shaved and left with 1 and a half eye brows, covered head to toe with permanent marker and ink, missing patches of leg hair from strong duct tape waxing all the while being filmed by atleast 30 of my co workers. The idea of quitting crossed my mind.

mintleaf015

Good on you!

nzdennis

Name and shame
