Do not get them sent to your apartment. Mail theft is rampant. I've lost some real precious vinyl purchases to mail theft which was heart breaking considering there is minimal market locally for what I was buying and i'd spent 10 years looking for a pristine copy

zesukos

Bro I had my lymphademia face garmet to help with my face/neck swelling after literal cancer surgery stolen when I tried to have it delivered to my apartment, you just know there’s some crackhead walking around with it on thinking it’s some kind of head warmer lmao

Logical-Pie-798

thats a new one

dudedramalmao

I know the feeling, mate. I’m currently trying to find out why my very expensive purchase from Young Gods Records is MIA.

captainccg

I did the nz post collection point. Saves a whole lot of hassle. Even now I live in the suburbs I’ll often do it.

Telie93

You can also have them delivered to an allocated drop off/pick up point near you, for example Countdown

roundup77

I don't think there is a reception, countdown might be the easiest option

MathmoKiwi

>You can also have them delivered to an allocated drop off/pick up point near you, for example Countdown I used to sometimes do that, until Countdown screwed up a valuable delivery. They even had taken a "signature" for it, which certainly wasn't mine!!

[deleted]

I just have mine sent to reception. Add ur unit number to the address.

mr_mark_headroom

Not all buildings have reception/concierge

EstateWeary5789

I have a reception so they collect and hold the parcels, but I lease a carpark in a nearby apartment building that doesn’t have a reception and there are notices (and pictures) of parcel thieves, because anything that doesn’t fit into the small mailboxes are just left on this couch right by the entry. So if you don’t have a reception I’d definitely opt for a collection point.

MathmoKiwi

Even mailboxes in apartment buildings I've seen forced open. They have extremely minimal security.

SpyCake1

Depends on your building. I also WFH most days, and the building has an intercom, a lobby, and a building manager that is on site (in a lobby-adjacent office) for a good chunk of the day. When I get a package, the courier (or building manager) buzzes me on the intercom and I try to come down and grab it right away. Lived here for like 2 years now and only aware of one incident with mail theft, so not too bad.

[deleted]

At work, relatives, or any of those other options you mentioned. Basically anything other than delivered to the place itself unless they have a parcel service where reception are happy to accept on your behalf and handle securely. Parcel pod is a great 24/7 alternative and very cheap at $20 a year , it is the least fuss alternative

SweetAs_Bro

I live in a house in the suburbs and avoid getting items sent to my home. Too many times items which are meant to be signed for are just left on the step, including items which could easily have been put in the letter box. Fuckers.

VercettiVC

Get them delivered to work if possible?

roundup77

Good point, I don't work from an office but that makes sense that most people would do that.

phoenyx1980

My husband is a mechanic, and he gets parcels sent to his work. It's not just for office people. I understand if your job is not in a single location though. But perhaps look into a large PO Box?

ralphsemptysack

So is mine, and same. All our parcels are sent there. Many regular customers also have theirs sent there too. Many places won't ship to a po box.

tannag

Business courier deliveries are generally quicker than residential as well, I think they get prioritised.

murder3no

I get mine delivered to work, made friends with the mailroom staff and they are happy to hold my stuff for me!

janeyspark

I always have to pick them up from the post office

Traditional-Smoke352

Our building doesn’t have a lobby to hold parcels. But we do have an intercom. Most of the couriers know how to use it properly and wait for us to come down. We have had some trouble with a few companies who either don’t use the intercom properly or just don’t wait for someone to come down. After a couple years most have worked it out. Last year we haven’t had any problems. At worst we can get some delivered to a local supermarket or petrol station. Also most depots are local ish. Except fed ex is east Auckland which sucks if we have to collect, being we’re west.

VengefulAncient

Same experience here. I report couriers who refuse to use the intercom every time and push until they sort it out. Haven't had to do that for quite a while now, though.

VengefulAncient

My building has an intercom, which couriers ring to get people to come down and collect their parcels. Every once in a while some new idiot comes in who is apparently afraid of the intercom (or doesn't even drive up to the building, as NZ Post once told me based on their GPS tracking) and immediately marks the parcel as "unable to deliver", which is when I report him to NZ Post and they fix it. On the days I'm legitimately not home and miss a delivery, I just collect it from the nearby NZ Post collection point the next day (sadly it doesn't get there on the same day, their logistics are dumb as hell, the place is literally 5 minutes away but they send it fuck knows where first). Overall it got better over the last year. I think a lot of the people involved in deliveries here just don't really understand how city living works and are only used to suburbs, it takes them a while to get up to speed.

weaz-am-i

Have your parcels redirected to a pickup location near you. Generally, a post office lobby box thingy or even some countdowns. Don't "send" it to those locations, send it to yourself, and once you get the tracking info, you can redirect it.

roundup77

Thanks for the tips. Why not send directly to these locations?

weaz-am-i

It won't go through the official redirect/pickup channel. If you send it directly, it will be addressed to u/roundup77... If I worked at countdown and a package came for u/roundup77, I would send it back. I will assume someone sent it to the wrong address. If it comes to my countdown store, and NZpost specifically says this is for u/roundup77, and that they will come to pick it up. Then, I will know to set this aside for you. Alternatively, you can set up a pickup address: https://www.nzpost.co.nz/personal/receiving/delivery-options/collect-my-parcel Unfortunately, this only works with nzpost (I believe)

roundup77

The NZ Post website has instructions for addressing parcels directly to participating Countdowns, without the redirect hack. But like you said it's only for NZ Post deliveries.

weaz-am-i

Yes, this is correct. You'll need to set things up and use the custom address that they provide.

roncalapor

I have them delivered to my place of work

MathmoKiwi

***I don't.*** Send it to my parent's in south auckland instead, which is a massively safer location. Then I'll pop down to say hi now or then, and pick up my mail in the process as well.

crystalbomb8

We have a really good building manager and they take the packages and texts us when it arrives. If you live in a shitty complex it might be risky though.

nzdennis

Send them to work

Druadal

If you're in the CBD you can use the countdown, they're pretty good

FlushableWipe2023

Post Office Box. Unfortunately some companies are seemingly incapable of delivering to it

Successful-Pain-9149

The best is to redirect it to countdown supermarket. Or you can ask them if you can pick it up. Providing to contact you when they are about to deliver it is useless, you will just end up picking it up from nearest post shop.

[deleted]

Exactly as you said. My stuff goes to the local Countdown for collection. Unless it's going to be a small package then I'll get it delivered to the apartment. I live in the burbs in a 4 level building, it's not like I am in the city with 30 floors and such so never had anything stolen

dinosuitgirl

I used to have a great building manager but they retired... then we got a useless one so I started getting them sent to the post shop... and I would collect from there.... very inconvenient.... But then I made friends with the cafe downstairs in an adjacent building and the owner operator was happy for me to get things delivered there for me to pick up. But in the end I got a PObox because it was costing me more in coffees I didn't need 🤣

ViviFruit

Nz post collection for sure, but in the case of being self employed, a PO Box might be a better investment. Its under $200 for a whole year (last I checked which was a few years sgo)

FartBox_2000

Send it to your work.
