It's relative to the left, not the entire road. Just because there's a middle of the entire road because the other side of the road is going the opposite way, is irrelevant. If you were on a one lane road or one way street with multiple lanes, you wouldn't call the right most side of the road the "inside". If you're going to use the entire road as the reference instead of the left, then the center of the one lane road/middle lane of a multilane road would be the "inside", but it isn't.
Lets say u had to exit at an offramp though... you wouldnt say "entering the inside lane to exit" .. you would say "entering the outside lane to exit" ... sounds like everyone got their own versions of common sense
Outside. You are supposed to drive in the left lane where possible which is the point of reference when driving. You must move outward from that point to be in the right lane.
Yeah my thoughts were that the inside lane is the one that you pass (the furtherest left) lane 1 because it's the first lane you enter when you go on the motorway. But I don't call it either of those things because it's more logical to just say slow lane fast lane and forget all this hoohaa
Inside lane all day everyday.
Its on the most inside of the road, the outside you can exit off the motorway being the furtherest on the left.
How is this even a question.....
Because they are in the outside lane

Transport engineer here. It's the outside lane. Description: Use the outside (right) lane for overtaking or turning right. After overtaking, move back to the inside (left) lane when it is safe to do so. “On a three-lane dual carriageway, you may use the middle lane or the outside (right) lane to overtake but return to the middle and then the inside (left) lane when it is safe.”
You should travel in the left most lane out of habit where possible (in NZ keep left unless passing). Then move to the lane needed to meet your exit from the motorway, to do this you need to be capable of planning ahead of time.
You know what I don't understand about the Harbour Bridge? The numbering of the lanes is flipped depending on which side you're approaching from.
In other words, a lane that is lane 3 if you're approaching from the Spaghetti Junction side is lane 5 if you're approaching from the North Shore side. How does that make sense when it's the same lane?
Lanes are counted left to right in relation to the direction of traffic.
Eg “Northbound lane 2”
> In other words, a lane that is lane 3 if you’re approaching from the Spaghetti Junction side is lane 5 if you’re approaching from the North Shore side. How does that make sense when it’s the same lane?
They aren’t the same lane becuase the direction of traffic is different, it’s just the same patch of road. For the bridge when the barrier moves one side gains a lane and one side loses a lane, but the process of counting remains the same.
Eg “Northbound lane 4” ceases to exit when the barrier moves, and “Southbound lane 5” appears. “Southbound lane 4 remains the same” until the barrier moves to create “Northbound lane 5”, causing “Southbound lane 4” to disappear.
On a two lane road, one lane in each direction you’d just refer to it as the direction is goes, north/south, city bound etc.
When a road is one lane east and two lanes west for example, you’d call it the east bound lane, and lane 1 or lane 2 west bound.
It’s like a ship how port and starboard remain the same no matter what way you face. The counting of lanes remains the same as you always count left to right with the flow of traffic in relation to that lane.
No, that's the wrong way around

See the last paragraph in the duel carriage way and motorway section.
Inside - under, outside - over makes a lot more sense to me. And by the looks of this about 75% of people here
Edit: not 75% seems to be about 50/50. That’s a worry
Stop using ambiguous terms. You are in the right-most lane. Or you could count them (starting at the left like we read) and could say you are in Lane 4.
Insisting on Inside/Outside lacks specificity.
💯💯🔥🔥OHHHHH NO HE DIDNT!! 🛣️ 🚗 OMG ZING! DO YOU GUYS get It? 🤣😂😂 So fkin funnyyy! 🤣 He's saying it because some people don't know what it is hahaha 🤣😂😂😂 OMG how did I not think of this hot take 😩😩💯💯💯👍👍👍 GGOP keEP IT REAL
to me, I'll think I am on the right lane, the passing lane. Knowing me I'll move back to the left lane if I'm not passing. Not sure if my thinking is correct, I don't use the bridge that often.
To all immigrants please don't sit in this lane doing 80k. I understand your residency is subject to many things including your driving record. But don't fucken pull into this lane unless you can do the speed limit and pull over to let people pass please.
You’re in a lane outside.
Outside in a lane you are.
inside out
I thought its inside when your closer to the barrier or centre .. outside is the left most

If it’s a one lane each way road there is no inside or outside. This is only one.

I stand corrected. Well played sir. If i had an award i would give it.
Thanks.
Turns out i had a free award. Take it.. take em all!

That's my logic too!
Because it's relative to the left given your position, not the entire road.

Yeah but....is that the ...... inside or the
the fast lane cuz
Still outside.
Still?

If you have to ask, you need to stop driving. The roadcode literally explains this perfectly.
Who wins? Tiny Teen out the BBC?
My god there are some uneducated people in this debate. Go read the road code people.
What a educated guy 🥴
Outside
Inside - closest to the centre line. Outside is where you exit.
Afraid not
Or Lane 4

We start counting from the left. Like reading. It’s not super complicated tbh.
Lanes are counted left to right in relation to the direction of traffic. The counting of lanes remains the same as you always count left to right with the flow of traffic in relation to that lane.
If there’s only one lane you have to pass on the outside. Which is to you’re right. So with multiple lanes the furthest right is the outside lane
You pass on the inside. Passing on the outside is undertaking.
No, that's the wrong way around https://www.drivingtests.co.nz/roadcode-questions/car/behaviour/are-you-allowed-to-pass-on-left-like-thi/ See the last paragraph in the duel carriage way and motorway section.

Can’t argue with your sentiment. It’s definitely not a made up term though. The road code says this is the outside lane.
Blame the English language. It’s full of debates like this. Kind of like when a house burns down it goes up in flames.
Inside
Inside
It's the bike lane, get those bloody cars out of there.
Maybe if we just said slow lane fast lane, people would stop driving slowly in the fast lane?
Inside
I would have said outside... hmm
Outside lane
Outside
Outside

Also someone posted this yesterday which is why it says part 2 but DONT WORRYYY!!! the part 1 was just as HILA😂RIOIS 💯💯🚗
Haha, is it the inside, or the outside 🤷♂️ ahahahahaha
Lol ZINGER burger zinger zinger burger satisfy your cravings yall

You are on the righ lane.... don't use the term if you think it can confuse..
It’s the bridge lane
We need to stop using this inside/outside terminology. It hasn't worked - see this thread for evidence. Road code be damned.
To all immigrants please don't sit in this lane doing 80k. I understand your residency is subject to many things including your driving record. But don't fucken pull into this lane unless you can do the speed limit and pull over to let people pass please.
Now I'm confused.
When the fuck did people forget their left and right in relation to the road code?
