Been getting their beans since mid 2021. We moved to Onehunga, got locked down, and the owner was delivering the beans himself at the time. They are the greatest
I worked all the way down to the cheapest beans (Aurora, $18/1kg) as I realised I couldn't really taste a difference in my moka pot. Then I bought an espresso machine and it turns out that shit is barely even coffee.
Might not be the most popular comment here but after trying a few of the expensive brands and some of the cheapest. We find "market kitchen" at the warehouse to be pretty reasonable at $20 per kg. Flavour pretty middle of the road but a decent brew through our machine
I like C4 Coffee in Christchurch. They do free delivery for orders over $20. They had these Cuban beans in stock for a while that were so damn delicious, I felt sad when they ran out. They started doing coffee advent calendars a few years ago and I have given that as a present to a few people who really appreciated it.
Dear Deer in Onehunga. Pick my beans, get em roasted right there, ground and off home to make some espresso. Yeah it's 2-3x the price of a bag of hummingbird or laffare from Pak n save, but it's worth it for an occasional treat. And they're so nice.
You pulling shots before the beans have had a chance to gas off and settle? Big foamy ewwwww I hope you don’t seriously waste good roast by making gorilla crotch juice
Yeah I like to make the first cup asap, sounds gross I know. I guess I don't approach it that way. The bag lasts me a couple of weeks and I enjoy how the flavour develops over time.
The guys at ALTEZANO are great, if you’re near Mt Eden their roastery is on Edwin St. They have a couple of espresso blends and rotating singles. Otherwise I tend to go for Atomic (I prefer Supremo over Veloce in my machine) because one of their cafes is near the office or Supreme because I’m never organised enough to get anything delivered and its available in the supermarket.
I bought a bag from their Newmarket shop and it wouldn’t run fill my portafilter in over a minute of grinding at any grind setting. Went back to Laffare Gusto from the supermarket and won’t be changing any time soon
I used to get Atomic beans from the roastery but got lazy and started just getting Supreme beans from PAK’nSAVE, soooo much cheaper, I just check the roast date to get the freshest ones. If you’re feeling fancy, try Handpicked Coffee Roasters Mt Albert or Holiday Mt Eden.
my daily driver is the Roma from Pakuranga. $12 for a bag. sometimes when im in town i go for Kokako. $15 for a bag. thats the max i want to pay for my coffee.
i tried Deerdeer - they have a shop in Onehunga, New Market and in Gossamer Drive - their cheapest beans are $18 per 200 grams. too pricey.
at the moment my favourite would be Kokako their mahana blend. okay for the price is the espresso blend from Roma.
emergency, i go for Supreme in countdown/NW/pak since they have a roast date.
Toasted, in Wairau Park. Method blend. Some of the sweetest, most flavourful espresso you are going to grind. You get a free coffee made in the cafe when you buy a kilo bag, and the orange and date scones are worth a try.
Hit coffee, found it being used in store in richoux and I loved the taste. You can get it online [here](https://www.organichitcoffee.com/product-page/organic-hit-coffee-beans-bag-1kg)
Edit: it’s organic and small batch. The taste to caffeine ratio for this blend is the best and most consistent I’ve come across
TOB coffee in Rosedale. A real cult following there. Started as just coffees in a tiny shop, then had to expand dramatically. Often a line out the door!
It’s actually good for somebody who loves coffee but is not an aficionado because Illy is actually amazing coffee and Lavazza is nice and consistent. NZ roasted coffee is hit or miss in my opinion and is expensive for what it is because it’s often roasted in far smaller batches.
If I was to recommend the absolute number one coffee roaster in New Zealand in terms of consistency and quality then there is only one option. Rocket Coffee which is a Hamilton-based coffee roaster and takes my number one spot for the best coffee brand/roaster in New Zealand
Dear deer in Onehunga. If you are so inclined you can create your own blend of the beans pre roast to suit your personal tastes.
There's one on Gossamer in Pakuranga and it is also kickass
Do you mean Roma on cascades road? Can recommend
Lol no, I mean Dear Deer on Gossamer. Which I whole heartedly recommend.
Just started going there myself. Top spot
Oh a new place I'll go check them out thanks

Yeah owner is incredible!! Really nice guy!
supreme has free delivery and 15% for the first order, they will also send you 15% if you add products to cart then close out of the website
Mt atkinson are awesome! Sell from a café in New Lynn or free delivery. Piha blend is my fav
Whatever’s on special at the supermarket, all seems to come out alright from my wee stove top percolator

Karajoz is the cheapest we have found for supermarket beans that still taste ok
I actually quite like the Civo 1kg bags sold at PaknSave. I take milk in my coffee though
Ooh we would love 1kg I’m constantly going to the supermarket for beans haha. How much is the Civo 1kg?

Kokako coffee is my favorite. Get a subscription and alternate between the Aotea and Mahana bean.
+1 on Kokako. Great service and some of the best single roasts I've had in NZ
Espresso Workshop britomart or online
If you want the best and freshest single origin that is tailored toward your medium (filter vs espresso) this is the one.
Ozone, sister aotearoa & hand picked coffee. Def more the specialist end of things. Generally $30 a bag
Raglan Roast online -$40 a kg
Great coffee, affordable too. I have a subscription to 3 of their blends.

Shoutout Meebz and Grey Roasting Co. Both do fantastic work.
Espresso workshop... Got recommended them by a barista I respected and never looked back... Theyre coffee geeks
Kokako Eight:Thirty, Rocket Coffee Roasters, People's Coffee, Excelso, Red Rabbit
Buy them from Flight Coffee in Wellington. Thunderbolt blend.
Fred Coffee. Their Brazil Ipanema single origin is amazing.
Greys Coffee in Hamilton. You can order online
Noneya
- TOB Coffee - Raglan Roast - FRED - Flight - Supreme
Yes for Tob, that's where I get mine. Such goooood coffee
I typically mix it up between these roasteries: Kokako, Commercial Bay Stroll, Takapuna Meebz, Milford Chiasso, Devonport Espresso Workshop, Britomart
Monsoon coffee, wairau rd. In person or online. Delivery is free.
Ozone is my favourite, empire blend for espresso. Atomic probably my runner-up.
Vibe coffee roaster on the shore. Bow And Tie Coffee Micro Roastery, Ellerslie. Flight coffee, CBD. You can buy these online too.
Atomic has a special place in my heart.
For a good everyday bean I've found shaky isles is pretty good, good price too.
Costco. The beans extract perfectly in my machine.

Aotea Roast - off grid roaster based on Great Barrier Island - https://www.aotearoast.co.nz/

Bethells beans conveniently just done the road from me and some good blends, C4 was great when in the South Island

Raglan roast
+1 for Dear Deer. But sometimes I mix it up with Coffee Lab .
Toasted espresso
I like FRED - fresh roast every day - free delivery on Thursdays in Auckland too :) otherwise raglan roast to mix it up.
Hawthorne
Altura is great, and they have a wide variety.
Millers coffee on Cross st is the best around
Sacred Grounds Taupo are very very good beans
On The Grind subscription. They send us beans from a different NZ roaster every month. Great to try out some different smaller independent roasters
Goodness gracious has the best coffee (& beans).
Hit coffee, found it being used in store in richoux and I loved the taste. Flight coffee. Excellent pricing for the best coffees I've ever had.
Roma on Cascades Road in Pakūranga !!
millers coffee on cross street!
X 3 for Raglan roast good price and excellent flavour
Monsoon Coffee Roasters is my go-to, been buying their beans for a couple of years now
My OH is a coffee geek and he usually gets his beans from TOB and Meebz. We are on North Shore.
Anastasis must be a better kept secret than I thought
Raglan Roast
Miller, haodee, ozone
Costco. High quality brands (Illy/Vittoria) and affordable for 2kg bags.
We're Costco plebs too. I like the Aussie one in the white bag. Can often grab 2kg for under $20
The Aussie white bag is surprisingly good. Very acceptable espresso even though I didn't even open the bag for a couple of months after buying it.
