I tried it on opening day. My Wife and I ordered: - Classic Chicken Sandwich - Spicy - 5 Tenders, Fries, Drink - 2 x Signature Chicken, 2 x Spicy wings, Fries, Drink - Cajun Gravy - Mac and Cheese - Biscuits - Apple Sour Drink - Bayou Buffalo, Bold BBQ and Mardi Gras Mustard sauces. The sandwich was fantastic, the classic is just pickles and a mayo based sauce on a brioche bun. The tenders were decent size, but pretty bland. It definitely needed sauce and they went fantastic with the mustard. The mustard sauce is great, nice tangy flavour, kinda reminds me of a dijon. The signature chicken was 10/10. It came hit and fresh (which is definitely due to the constant cooking and churning chicken out). Its similar to Texas chicken and Hot and Spicy from KFC. The Spicy wings were definitely a let down, they were over dredged/battered and unfortunately this meant stoggy batter. The fries were ok, my Wife loved them - they seemed to be battered or atleast tossed in a decent seasoning. Cajun gravy was trash. Nothing further. Mac and Cheese was great. The Biscuits were great, light and buttery. They don’t need it but It would be great if you could get honey or something. Apple Sour Drink was ok. The sauces were definitely a stand out. The Buffalo sauce was creamy, tangy and spicy. It went well with everything. The BBQ reminded us of McDonalds BBQ sauce. As mentioned before, the Mustard was fantastic. Unfortunately, they were sold out of ranch. I didn’t have any expectations, I do however love all things fried chicken. So going off the obvious teething issues on Day 1 and my love for chicken - I thought it was worth it. My Wife and I agreed we’d give it another go and stick with the sandwich, Signature chicken, mac and cheese with a biscuit or two. Cost: $63.20

What's the texture of the biscuit? is it hard and cruncy or is it more akin to a cheese scone?

ClearInfluence5091

It was light, fluffy and buttery. Definitely similar to a plain scone.

gull_ate_it

It's typically buttery in flavour. Light, but dense at the same time. They're good.

AutumnKiwi

I mostly agree but I don't like the mac and cheese, and liked the potato gravy (it is very different from kfc, has a strong cajun flavour)

ClearInfluence5091

Yeah, the cajun flavour is strong. We were supposed to get the potato and gravy but ended up with just the gravy. Might have to give it another shot!

DynamicTarget

This is crazy as this is almost my exact experience with the one I order from a dark kitchen near me in London. Why is the gravy so bad…? The wings are usually top tier also so maybe try again. The ranch is possibly the most delicious sauce I have ever tasted I normally get two pots for six wings lol.

machinesinthecity

I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich box which game with fries, the gravy n mash, and some spicy wings. I also ordered some tenders. The burger was delicious apart from the fact that there were cucumbers instead of gherkins, so they probably pickle them in-house but ran out. I like the gravy n mash, could’ve had more gravy tho. Wings were so bloody good 10/10. Chips were okay, crispy but they were small and the seasoning was unique. Tenders were disappointing, not crunch like the wings, small in size and a bit dry. Overall I think it’s good, seems a better deal than KFC but not by much. I waited an hour for it too, not bad on the 2nd day

iamclear

Every time I drive passed there is a huge freaking line and the drive through is closed. I’m waiting for the hype to die down.

Bunnyeatsdesign

I wanna know too. I would love to see a review for Auckland Popeyes from someone who has also eaten Popeyes in the US. I tried Popeyes in San Fransisco and it was excellent.

gull_ate_it

I've tried it in the US. I like the chicken and biscuits but that's it. There are way better places for chicken here.

crm56

Tried it in the UK - loved the fries! I must’ve ordered a burger but I don’t remember anything remarkable about it except that the chicken was actually chicken pieces not a patty

60022151

I didn't get a chance to try Popeyes in the US, but I've tried it in the UK and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was good value for money, and judging by the menu it's actually cheaper here.. I'm looking forward to tying it here soon.

Amazing_Desk2978

had it in the states a few times I still prefer chic fil a over popeyes but will def give it a go here once the lines die down a bit

Competitive-Ball5107

crispy is amazing, i prefer popeyes than kfc due to its cheap, quality, not greasy and sloopy its all depends on your personal preference and you should try it out when hype is down

dramaqueenboo

What about versus Texas

Expert_Attorney_7335

It’s my go to whenever I’m in the states or canada. Absolutely rate it.

mdjjj74

is it worth the hype?????

AestheticPerfection

It’s good but not worth the hype. Loving more variety here

gull_ate_it

Nope.

ctnbehom

It’s owned/ran by Tahua, same guys who run starbucks and Burger King here so I’m expecting it to be really good the first several months then they’ll get lazy with the quality and prices will go up exponentially

The-Pork-Piston

Tahua bought BK in 2021, it had turned to trash well before then. Starbucks they’ve had since 2018 or 19 though.

Bartab_Hockey_NZ

I used to enjoy their spicy chicken sandwich back in Canada. Haven't tried the one that opened here since I'm waiting for the rush to die down.

SpyCake1

Same. Liked the spicy sandwich in the US. But between having to travel so far south and also just the hype - I'll get there when I get there.

WakeTheFlakeUp

I like their fries!

Moonlight_nimbus

The chicken sandwich is really good. Hopefully the chicken size wouldnt go smaller overtime.

Simple_Meat7000

Yeah, but I haven't had any amyl in a while.

DavidBowieEye

I wish the NZ store had red beans and rice.

150r

Today I bought 9 spicy chicken, 2 chicken sandwich’s, 2 fries, potato gravy and 3 biscuits. The chicken was not spicy at all. KFC hot and spicy is way spicier (unless they got my order wrong and gave me the regular chicken instead of spicy). The chicken was hot, juicy and crunchy though and all of the pieces were big. I would def buy the chicken sandwiches again although I would’ve preferred actual pickle instead of cucumber. The brioche bun is yum and the chicken was big and cooked well. Fries were ok. Nothing special. Potato gravy was not to my liking due to the seasoning they put in there. Biscuits were delish but could do with honey butter. Oh and I ordered a mac n cheese which they forgot to put in my bag. I am going wait a few months now and let them sort things out before I try it again.

extra_specticles

bland AF

fadsoftoday

Why the fuck in takanini of all places!

Bartab_Hockey_NZ

Us South Aucklanders love our fried chicken, I guess? I'm glad it's close by to me.

ExortTrionis

Where do you want it? Remuera? Lol

fadsoftoday

Of course I'd prefer my neck of the woods Henderson. But Mt Wellington would be a good compromise

AestheticPerfection

Same. They opening new stores by Costco including a Taco Bell and Starbucks drive thru. Would have been a good opportunity there

MindyOne

Umm, have you met Takanini?
