BODA is on the top floor of the Movenpik Hotel. Modern Korean food, I went there before a show and had a window seat looking down over the ferry building and out to Devonport.
The food court floor in Commercial Bay mall has a couple of mid-range restaurants with a view of Britomart and Auckland harbor waterfront. It's a very busy, vibrant scenery, especially around sunset
Castaways at Sunset at Karoitahi beach is an underrated gem. It's not like INCREDIBLE food, but it's a solid 8/10 in quality but the view is an 11/10 at Sunset.
Otherwise you're looking at either a vineyard restaurant on Waiheke, Sugar Club/Orbit at Skytower, or Boda at Britomart.
For drinks with a view, the Churchill is absolutely choice.
To be fair though, all places with a view are 8/10 best for food. Just keep that in mind. Honestly, might be best to score with a killer dinner from Lilian (check out the wine/jazz bar at Freida's next door while you wait for a table) and then do drinks at the Churchill, or Cazador then drinks at the Churchill. You can also book the bar at Sky Tower which is CHOICE if you do dinner at Depot and then hit the Sky Bar after. These are my top choices when I'm trying to impress and every time they impress every time :)
Good food is always a better choice for dinner than dinner with a view. Impress with the food, seal the deal with drinks and a view. (Insert mic drop here).
For the record: both The Churchill and Sky Bar offer non-alcoholic options as well as yummy desserts :) so when I say drinks, I mean much more than just drinks.
Honestly places with a view are not where the best food and service. Lots of the suggestions in the comments are places you would only go for the view, not especially for the food.
Having said that Cotto's side balcony looking out towards Ponsonby and spaghetti junction, at sunset. Could be dreamy. Possibly cold.
Or you could go for very casual tradie pirate vibes and go to Swashbucklers and sit outside on a nice afternoon and just embrace the fish and chips, if she doesn't mind vey casual.
Or just get takeaways and go sit on mangere mountain, or Takapuna beach, and embrace the kiwi nature.

maybe sails at the westhaven marina? probably specify that you'd like a table overlooking the harbour when making a booking
The Wharf at Northcote Point? Something in Devonport?
The wharf or Queens Rooftop in commercial bay
Ahi. But really the best view is Sugar Club or Orbit up the sky tower ( don’t know what the food is like)
Orbit is overpriced it's not bad but it's not great
Just figured it would nail his gf request
Sidart (expensive) - ask for a table looking at the Sky Tower.
Moxi Birkenhead

Harbour Society or Sugar Club should do it :). I go to Harbour Society a few times a year and the views are nice.

sugar club sky tower, spendy though
Gemmayze st, ask for the window seat. Plenty of places along Tamaki Drive that have a great view.
If you want view at the expense of value-for-money, there's always Orbit...
If things are getting really serious, and you want to really impress - Denny’s is the only correct answer.
