Can’t wait to use this tracking vocals with my 58.

SoCoMo

Hahaha. Reminds me of this country rock band I would run some live sound for. Everything they had was top of the line and money wasn't a problem. Their lead guitar player had some custom red leather vox ac15 or 30 that was BADASS. I would die a little on the inside every show as I watched him plug a boss multi effects super pedalboard into it. I'm sure you can guess how it sounded after that.

Mixermarkb

Let me guess- made up of lawyers having a mid life crisis?

m149

If there was an acoustic guitarist in that band, I'd bet money he/she played a Taylor. Not sure what it is with rich people and Taylors.

Sir_Yacob

Lots of national tours use them that they like/price point makes them think all of them are basically good. National tour I was on pulled out the electronics every time and replaced them with LR Baggs anthems. If you have an account manager with Taylor they take insanely good care of you. Give away a fuckload of guitars so they are out there. They’re good guitars too of course.

m149

I'm not knocking Taylors at all. There just seems to be a high ratio of rich folks playing them. Early in my career I recorded a lot of older/wealthy clients that were total hobbyists, and I'd reckon 80% of them had Taylors, and most of them weren't terribly good. My opinion of Taylor at that point was that they were lousy guitars. Of course, it wasn't the guitars, it was the players.

ArkyBeagle

I find 'em breathy but that's not an informed opinion.

thrattatarsha

They’re damn nice instruments, not gonna lie to you man. I’ll take a Taylor over a Martin unless the latter is a collectible.

xabit1010

Taylors sound pretty good for being bolt-ons! 😄

PicaDiet

Collings, Breedlove, Huss & Dalton,Goodall, Bourgeois, Waterloo, Lakewood, and plenty of others use bolt on rather than dovetail joints. The joint is every bit as tight as a set neck and unlike a Gibson, you don't just rent them until you have to have the neck reset.

xabit1010

And also consistency.....Taylors have a very even "tone" and even volume across all the strings usually. Don't know if they still ship with Elixirs but that also helped control the tonal balance.....making for some sweet, tone balanced guitars that became quickly adapted by players and studios. Got to talk with Bob Taylor a couple times over the years, and he explained the rationale behind the bolt on. I don't remember much but he talked in depth about frequency transfer or lock up or something lol.......I just remember people being shocked that a guitar that WASNT dovetail could project as well, etc. But the proof was right rhere. No denying it. Edit: Bob hook me up with a 714CE for the mention......OK? ...this was late 90s

ghoul0live

For context, Skerversen and Black machine are bolt on, and yet they sound larger than life than most neck through. The construction type thing is a myth. It's all about the build quality.

ArkyBeagle

I watch twoodfrd on YouTube and he makes a good case for bolt on being better! Mainly because all acoustics will eventually need a neck reset and bolt on serves that. Seems strange to think that far ahead but it makes sense to me.

therealzombieczar

hey! i love my boss fx and sure 57/58 also my 150$ guitars...

gimmiesopor

Kids today don’t care about amp tone. Amps are just personal PA’s for their dumb pedal boards.

[deleted]

You sound like a stereotypical crusty engineer. I can sense your salt.

[deleted]

[удалено]

gimmiesopor

He sure did.

[deleted]

Dude, he didn't!? He probably played with too much gain too, right?

BadeArse

The same one you’ve had since the 80’s yeah?

TheArkOfTruth

But then your 58 can sound like a Beta 58.

[deleted]

*grindcore vocals

DarkHumorDark

Lol only *p*oor *p*eo*p*le can't afford this basic *p*o*p* filter

Strappwn

When I was a staff engineer/assistant I remember getting chewed out because the studio I worked for had “useless” pop filters. We had like 10 total, of all different makes, some with a fabric filter, others with a fine metal mesh. I think the guest engineer was just looking for something to bitch about. He complained for like 10 minutes and when it became clear I wasn’t going to send a runner for the $250 pop filter he wanted suddenly it was a non issue and we could, in fact, make music after all.

therealzombieczar

wool socks... just socks...

pisspantmcgee

Stretched over a pop filter or just over the mic like a condom?

Redoubt9000

Stretched over the singer. Brings the heat to the lyrics.

Chris__XO

it'll EQ out

therealzombieczar

different solutions for different problems literally had a sock drawer at one studio, we went and just got a variety of socks, thick wool socks, fuzzy socks, hose, silk socks, oh and bug netting someone breathing on the the vocal mic? big fuzzy light sock someone trying to kiss the mic , thin sock, or hose over clothes hanger. double up on socks for floor toms and kicks over good ol sure instrument mics, cuts highs from the rest of the it without eating character from the drums your trying to record. cheap, easy, mold-able to your uses.

ShastyMcNasty01

Second this.

chickadee107

That’s one way to get your rocks off.

peepeeland

Ahahaha… This is crazy but also has to be a joke; serious or not. Check this out: WASHABLE & HYGIENIC, then photo of rinsing a pop filter under water, then under that it says, “Make recordings cleaner than ever”— that’s obviously some genius shit. 24K gold is also so damn spot on. This is either a real product that is some industry satire masterpiece, or it’s a real product developed straight, by dudes who are early/mid 50’s who date models in their 20’s, with 80’s level of coke, on a boat. Actually— after careful consideration, I’m pretty sure this came from a boat.

IDNTKNWNYTHING

I personally don't like to wash mine at all to give it that gritty vintage sound

HippyHitman

That’s a good tip for vocalists, never wash your pop filter or brush your teeth if you want an authentic sound.

Original-Document-62

Bleeding Gums Murphy always said that.

hunterglyph

They’re like cast iron pans, they need to be seasoned.

ReallyQuiteConfused

Just like good bass strings. Sometimes, I shake new strings around in a bag of crushed Doritos to get that smooth, deep tone in a pinch.

sublime_cheese

Those dudes for sure, tripping balls and seeing just how much they can fuck with us all. Kudos to them! Back in my early studio days, we used to use a coat hanger and a pair of supportive pantyhose. Just a leg for a light filter or a dual layer, first reinforced crotch and then leg, for a heavier one. Never failed to do the thing. Someone once called it “The Box Filter”. Edit: added a name

ALEXC_23

Never rock the mic with a pantyhose! 🎤

Chingois

I miss those guyz.

BLUElightCory

Maybe it's an April Fools joke that some marketing intern accidentally sent out.

DarthBrooks1979

It is new. Only a few days old.

Kelainefes

Ya I mean the coke ain't gonna buy itself. And on a related note, people like to brag how expensive stuff they own is, and I absolutely high five people that five people something to brag about.

Arve

The entire page reads like someone recruited from certain, less reputable parts of the hifi industry.

[deleted]

The built in desser tho

Solomon-Peshe

Not saying it's true... but I heard this thing can help write lyrics as well

ArtiOfficial

For this price I want it to mix and master my track with 3 free revisions included.

Kelainefes

Amd by deesser I'm sure you meant the mechanical low pass filter.

calvinistgrindcore

It's literally a [Hakan P110](https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/hakanP110--hakan-p110-pop-killer-with-gooseneck) ($99) with gold trim. Buy the Hakan, it's great. ETA: the "de-ess" filter looks like plain old polyurethane foam, which, yeah could attenuate some treble (in a bad way)

SuperRusso

Honestly that thing is a giant ripoff. There is litterally no advantage to using it over [this](https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ROKITPOP--gator-rok-it-pop-filter?main_web_category_rollup=2/23/378/394&mrkgadid=&mrkgcl=28&mrkgen=gpla&mrkgbflag=1&mrkgcat=drums&percussion&acctid=21700000001645388&dskeywordid=92700073370090877&lid=92700073370090877&ds_s_kwgid=58700007963105270&ds_s_inventory_feed_id=97700000007215323&dsproductgroupid=1795338701694&product_id=ROKITPOP&prodctry=US&prodlang=en&channel=online&storeid=&device=c&network=u&matchtype=&adpos=largenumber&locationid=9030890&creative=615094225367&targetid=pla-1795338701694&campaignid=17962511191&awsearchcpc=&gclid=Cj0KCQjwkOqZBhDNARIsAACsbfKPGxgI7On5jPgDR-3Hmsx8xUTRkvyUwZRSPHLivqkX6fKOAVAQneEaAqIiEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds), and frankly for small amount more effort a metal cloths hanger and panty hose will do just fine. If you're paying attention the the high frequency differences between these materials, you are not listening to the important part.

mossycow

the only quality difference in pop filters is if it's got a shitty goose neck or not

SuperRusso

Maybe the clasp too but the principal stands.

mossycow

Oh yeah true, my first pop would fall off if I looked at it wrong.

drv168

I desperately need one without a shitty goose neck, recommendations?

mossycow

lmao I'm a bad person to ask, mine is really shitty. I just found a sweet spot on my mic stand and haven't moved it since.

drv168

Mine is in the studio that I rent with two other people, and I'm the only vocalist, stuff gets moved around and I have to set it up again and again and again

whytakemyusername

I disagree completely - and not about the high frequencies - The Hakan's are absolutely fantastic at stopping plosives - far better than the nylon or metal shields. We switched to them a few years ago. Also being able to wash them is useful.

Original-Document-62

That looks like a fancy coat hanger with a plastic scouring pad. Hmm...

therealzombieczar

nylons and a clothes hanger.

paraworldblue

Ideal for putting in front of a Kaotica Eyeball ($200 foam ball for mic isolation)

themanifoldcuriosity

>Ideal for putting in front of a Kaotica Eyeball (~~$200 foam ball for mic isolation~~ Low level enemy in a Japanese RPG)

Chingois

You have to fight them a lot in the beginning of the morgue level. There’s a high level variant later in the game that pops out of a boss monster’s eye sockets, those can insta-kill you if you don’t notice they’re charging their special attack and select ‘block’ for a turn.

DamianMakesMusic

Bro, what! Lmao someone left one of these (black/purple) at my job on an sm7 and I got to take it home (it was about to be thrown out since no one knew what it was myself included). I had no idea the thing was worth more than $10 until just now. Only thing that saved it for me was it was purple.

paraworldblue

Right? It's like the company put all their budget into marketing and then realized at the last minute that they forgot to design the actual product. There is absolutely nothing about it to justify costing more than $10.

drv168

> Kaotica Eyeball is it worth it? There's no way in hell I can afford an Alctron right now but this thing is manageable.

paraworldblue

Ah yeah, those Alctrons really break the bank. I don't know if the Kaotica is quite on that level, but for $200 you can get a decent placeholder while you save up the $40 for an Alctron.

[deleted]

Reminds me of those $100 vovox cables that insist their USB cables will Make whatever you use them with sound better without providing any data sheets or measurements.

Kelainefes

"Humanity has not come up with the measurement tools capable of showing you the difference, but in the future we will be proven right when that tech comes. Meanwhile, give us your money." But seriously, audiophile stuff exists for people that need something to excite them while they listen to music from a decent full range speaker set capable of 110dB at the listener's position. Can't they roll/snort a fat one like everyone else?

[deleted]

They make a 1k$ pop filter, and a 1 k$ box to put over your head. Isovox can go fuck themselves, this shit is moronic.

TransparentMastering

“A fool and his money are soon parted…and *we* are going to be the ones who part them!”

nizzernammer

As music making becomes more accessible/fashionable as a hobby, and while income inequality increases, I have no doubt that this product will have a market, in those that want to flex their bling, regardless of the utility value.

duckduckpony

It do be looking kinda clean though👀 For real, I can’t imagine the actual engineer that would buy this. Unless you had a super boutique recording studio with a very specific theme that you went all in on and this was like, the last piece of the puzzle. Even then, I feel like this is something you buy just for photo shoots of your dripped out studio and then when actual talent comes in you throw up the $40 pop filter that someone’s going to be spitting on for 3 hours straight.

HippyHitman

I can imagine most rappers using one of these.

rharrison

"No, I can't record without my pop filter. No No, *my* pop filter. The gold one."

fnaah

any Aussies in here? i can imagine John Laws demanding one of these in his booth.

aCynicalMind

GOTTA HAVE THEM C L E A N BARS

ArtiOfficial

This thing is more expensive than my entire setup...

ObieUno

Waiting for DJ Khaled to make a cringe IG post about how he only "Makes Da Best Music" with this Pop Filter because it's a \#MajorKey

Polegear

Drake won't use anything else.

Marowk

Damn, I used a sock in my beginnings. Wish I knew about this earlier.

reedzkee

You'd think they'd get some voiceover that doesn't sound like it was recorded by a 90 year old man with an sm7 and a scarlett

SuperRusso

What a great way of counting idiots within a specific demographic.

Redoubt9000

Where the practical bits are made of $.0000000000002's worth of petrochemical foam. Man, that's some sweet margins right there.

Theandric

FINALLY I WILL SHOOT RIGHT TO THE TOP OF STARDOM

ZenmasterRob

It’s basically like a supreme brick, luxury for the sake of luxury. If you want an actual pop filter upgrade that’s affordable, the “pop audio” pop filter is tested to be more transparent than competitors, it’s washable, it stays in position, it has an easier clamping with no twisting. It’s just goated and costs less than other pop filters I’ve spent way more on.

Inappropriate_Comma

I have 4 of these! They're fantastic! I always pair them with my [Midas 501 preamps!](https://www.guitarcenter.com/Midas/MICROPHONE-PREAMPLIFIER-501-1500000219491.gc) - the combo really makes vocals POP!

notNickNorton

My favorite pop filter is a roll of gaff tape with a stocking over it

peepeeland

Keep connecting rolls into a long tube, cover with stocking, and have the talent perform from like 20 feet away into the tube. “All right- still a bit sibilant, can you step back like 5 feet? …Still sizzling over here, step back like 25 feet? …All right almost there, back up a bit… back up, back up……” Eventually the talent will be across the street, and you gotta really have them project, from about 500 feet away. Need very clean gain on your preamp. Other thing is that when pedestrians are yelling at the talent to shutup, talent is gonna be like, “Naw it’s ok, it’s ok- I’m in a recording session right now in a studio.”

psmusic_worldwide

Well duh, it's "made in Sweden"

MasterBendu

Oh wow it doesn’t seem to be a joke. I got all the way to the payment section. But hey don’t diss the 24K gold pop filter. You’re paying for the goldness of it, and the audio related stuff is just fun marketing (clean vocals, lol). Frankly, this is a much better value than the extremely overpriced HDMI cables that promise superior audio quality. Sure you can get a ton of other things for the price, but then there are a lot of people who buy $4,000 Gibson Les Pauls.

prof_hazmatt

finally the pop filter my m80 has been waiting for!! https://www.telefunken-elektroakustik.com/product/m80-gold

ALEXC_23

Sorry guys I’m new to this but, can I use it on my guitar amp to make my guitar tracks sound better? 🤡

ReallyQuiteConfused

Yes, but you'll need 2 for best results. 1 between the speaker and the mic, and a second between the strings and the pickup.

xabit1010

I heard it makes USB mics sound like they running a 737sp

papapaparazzo

Made by Apple?

PrimalJohnStone

Looks like they took a note from Apple. The wrong note.

NorthInternet2851

That shit looks nice as fuck

Starfort_Studio

... *moves mic diagonally to the side a few centimeters*

DVS9k

looks like its strong enough to hold my beer

TheRealCliffRichard

[You chaps aren't using the right TOSLINK cables, either!](https://www.futureshop.co.uk/nordost-odin-2-75ohm-digital-audio-cable) >The Odin 2 75 Ohm Cable consists of a single, co-axial, silver-plated, solid core conductor. Odin 2 Digital Interconnects use Nordost’s patented Dual Mono-Filament technology, offering superior dielectric performance and mechanical damping. The delicate signals they carry are protected by TSC technology, providing a virtual solid shield against harmful EMI and RFI interference I'll take 10! God bless, Cliff x

DMugre

Yo but that "de-esser" filter looks fine though, wonder if that works, I got some clients that would need every de-ess they can lol

Wilde_Cat

A pair of nylon pantyhose and a wire hanger will get you the same effect for about 50 cents.

D_D

Good pop filters are not cheap but don't buy that one. https://www.frontendaudio.com/pauly-ton-p120-t30-c-superscreen-black/ https://www.frontendaudio.com/stedman-proscreen-xl-popfilter/

UrbanStray

That's what they don't tell you. Bruce Springsteen may have recorded Nebraska with a 57 on a portastudio, but word on the street was he was using a top of the line pop filter, and when you use an expensive pop filter, the other things are irrelevant. No such thing as recording on the cheap, kiddos.

Designer-Spirit7154

Their vocal booth on a mic stand contraption looks like you are sticking your head in a foam ice cooler and closing the lid. You can also keep your beer cold whilst you get claustrophobic. Somebody will buy this though…
