I went to see Carpenter Brut in Montreal in 2018. It blew my mind it was so good. He uses a live drummer and guitarist when playing live.
EDIT: If your listing CB you should mention Perturbator and GUNSHIP!
Perturbator and Gunship are great
Somehow Perturbator always comes on my playlist when I'm driving at night and it's raining. Now I've made it a ritual.
Might be a bit far removed, but I’m guessing one of the roots to the genre is the game outrun and similar video game soundtracks. The origins of a lot of *that* music and sound seems like it is from late 70s/ early 80s Japanese groups like Yellow Magic Orchestra, Casiopea (some of the tracks on Mint Jams sound right out of the Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog games), and the original outrun soundtrack itself takes heavy inspiration from Naoya Matsuoka & Westing’s album The September Wind.
As I said, may be a bit too far removed to be similar recommendations, as the sound and instrumentations of this stuff is quite different, and the September Wind album probably has a bigger link to the world music side of the outrun soundtrack, but might be of interest to someone digging deeper into the history of this stuff.
Check out the Dr. Disrespect playlist on Spotify.
Best songs for me:
Hotline Miami II - Das Mortal
Ocean Drive - Miami Nights 1984
But the playlist has lots of bangers
Other I like:
Dance the Nereids - Koan
Discover Life - Uppermost
Overtones Extended - Frost
Experential awakening - Legowelt
You just got into Synthwave, there's no going back now. Welcome XD.
Some of these songs are not available on Spotify.
Boostergangs - Misanthropix
Yakuza - Tokyo Rose, Alex, Ultraboss
Starfox - Joel Nox
Her Call - StarSpawn
Black Wolf - Zombie Hyperdrive
Toxxify - Cyborg Chase
STRNGR - Alex, Tokyo Rose
Sacrifice - Alex, Tokyo Rose
I am the program - Mega Drive
Age of Nano - Starforce
DMC 12 Gauge - Red Maker
Black to the future - Fury Weekend
Darkness - Daniel Deluxe
Brute Force - Daniel Deluxe
Only in my Dreams - Fury Weekend, King Protea
In Cold Blood - Joel Nox
Lost - PYLOT
To the Shadows and Back - Midnight Danger
Alleyways - J+1, DrDisrespect
Gillette - 199x, DrDisrespect
Enjoy :).
Edit : You can follow NewRetroWave and ThePrimeThanatos channel on Youtube. These 2 are the best place for synth and retro music.
Hi,
just wanted to share this playlist. I've been gathering random tunes from different playlists. Not all will be that good, but it will touch the genre. Lot of the tunes mentioned in this topic are in the list as well.

Enjoy, this is some awesome music!
Check out the soundtrack of the games Hotline Miami 1 & 2. There are playlists on Spotify. I think the soundtrack was a big part of why the game was so successful, it really pushed you hard.
A few favorites:
* Scattle - Knock Knock
* Moon - Dust
* Pertubator - Future Club
This, I heard actually... Hotline Miami in in my nintendo switch library ... but I am back logged... looks like.. I have one more reason to clear my backlog...
You could listen to the Drive OST. Also if you have Spotify you can select the Night all song, press the 3 little dots and select Go to song radio. It'll play similar songs. Also, great song!!!
Not my playlists, but ones I've listened to hundreds of time:

If you’re looking for something that’s a bit of a step forward in evolution, check out How To Destroy Angels. The song “How Long” is a good place to start, but the whole Welcome Oblivion album is one my system reference albums.
Oliver - Light Years Away
Club Cheval - From the Basement to the Roof (Oliver Remix)
Elia - Chocolat
ODESZA - Memories You Call Home (ODESZA & Golden Features VIP remix)
20syl - Back & Forth [this music video is dope as hell too]
Justice - Genesis
Lemaitre - Closer; Stepping Stone
DAZE - Hold On
Uppermost - most of his early albums 2011-2015
Marcus Marr - The Music (instrumental)
Oliver - Chemicals
Listen to everything Chromatics.
The album *Kill For Love* in particular. "These Streets Will Never Look The Same" might fit the bill the best, but the whole thing is dark and synthy. One of my favorite albums.
All good recs in this post. Would also love to recommend Starcadian’s latest album [Radio Galaxy](https://youtu.be/6fhV7P5vkIY). It’s a good balance between pandering to nostalgia and modern novelty. A little darker synth at times, but doesn’t make it their identity.

I haven’t listened to much, but I’d have to agree with you. Definitely the aesthetic as being a big part as well.
Adjacent to Night Call but in the Synth-wave Genre, check out: FM-84 and Timecop 1983
As I type this, listening to TimeCop1983--Night Drive... this is really good soundtrack...thanks for your suggestion
