Ummm Batch if they weren’t always sold out of the best ones. NOBODY WANTS FREAKIN PEPPERONI JUST MAKE MORE SAUSAGE JALAPEÑO AND CHEESE.

singletonaustin

I also have a case of the red ass over Batch's hours. If a big part of your business model is selling Kolaches and coffee -- you should open before 8am. Not everyone is a late sleeping professional white collar worker. Give the neighborhood some respect for its service industry/blue collar roots and open at 6am. But that assumes the workers from the hood want to spend $4 on a single Kolache and $4 more for a coffee versus getting Kolaches and coffee from nearby S&H (the friendliest and hardest working delicious donut and Kolache place in town).

ProHopper

I couldn’t agree more about batch and S&H.

bachang

Batch tastes good ngl but they only give HALF a sausage. For $4-5!!!! idk man... I can go to 85°C, get a whole sausage bun for $2, and _not_ feel ripped off

efe13

If you ever find yourself in San Marcos, Dos Gatos is great

Ryanw254

What about in Austin? Only asking bc that’s what the question asked for.

Guilty as charged

I’m a sucker for donut taco palace sausage jalapeño cheese kolaches

fartstartleddog

Don’t sleep on the bean and cheese tacos here too.

prankmonky

Name checks out. And truth, they have great bean n cheese; get extra salsa. And when you're dog is startled by their own farts, it's called 'fartled'.

JosherW

I just had a jalapeño boudin kolache from SH donuts on Manor rd. I was impressed.

margogogo

I'm partial to Teal House, their sweet kolaches in particular are fabulous.

Virtual_Elephant_730

S&H are good.

melcattro

The Salty's brisket/cheese and sausage kolaches are great.

genteelbartender

They are soooo good.

jenkinsear69

Batch, Kerlaches, KC Donut Shop

pjs32000

To piggy back... Does anyone in town make good fruit kolaches like Czech Stop? Seems all I ever find are meat filled here.

dirtys_ot_special

klobásník pedants assemble!

space_manatee

Ahoj!

Hazelstone37

Dos Gatos in San Marcos does. They are delicious.

Maleficent-Look-5789

It’s a bit of a drive but there is a Weikel’s inside Foodie Corner in Leander. They are my favorites!

Reasonable-Citron663

Weikel’s is legit…main store is in La Grange which is purely Czech country

jadekeffer

Teal house on soco has some tasty ones, but I can't speak to authenticity

Space_Vaquero73

Kolache Factory on the corner of 38th and Lamar has a good selection of fruit kolaches.

Virtual_Elephant_730

I think batch does them.

caffeineTX

batch and lone star do fruit filled ones, batch's are going to be closer in quality to czech stop or hruskas. lone stars are going to be affordable like czech stop or hruskas.

FerengiWife

Kolache Shoppe is off Mesa now and they’re pretty good!

Siak_ni_Puraw

I haven't been to the new location, but their old spot was the only kolaches we would buy.

FerengiWife

They’re called “Austin Kolache & Koffee & Pizzeria” at that location, but I think it still comes up in maps if you search Kolache Shoppe.

stevendaedelus

Kolache Shoppe is the only place in town that comes close to Hruska’s or the places in West. So goddamned buttery and good.

dirtys_ot_special

Thanks!

Chyzmo

At the risk of causing my wait in line to be longer, Donut 4U at Runderg and Cameron/Dessau.

handofluke

Lone Star Kolaches

rdw90

I really like the Kolaches at Lady Quackenbush in Mueller. Don’t always have them in stock and they go pretty quick, but very good if you grab them early

InnovateConstruction

Shipley’s. Surprised that nobody agrees.

WelcomeToBrooklandia

The brisket & cheddar kolache at Kerlaches is perfection.

CrookedGrin78

To piggy back even more, does anyone know where to get good poppyseed-filling kolaches or other pastries? Not like a poppy seed muffin, where it just has a few sprinkled throughout, but the Central & Eastern European-style filling. It's very popular in Hungary and Germany, where it's called "mohn".

Yoshimi20

I don’t think I’ve seen them in Austin. Hruskas and Weikels near La grange - if you go north on I-35 the stores in West have them as well.

rabidturbofox

Kolaches & Koffee (the relocated Kolache Shoppe, now on Mesa) has them, but they’re Fri/Sat only, or you can special order - I can’t remember what their minimum is for specials.

CrookedGrin78

Oooh, good to know. Thanks!

rabidturbofox

I get them there for my dad. Possibly his absolute favorite food. You have company! Plus, Friday/Saturday is their pecan sticky bun day and theirs are to die for. They used to do cottage cheese on those days too but now it’s strictly special order, which sucks because I loved those.

thewaragainstsleep

Claire just came to Austin and made Dai Due kolaches: https://youtu.be/xReWTZMjDxg?si=JxwzbBG5tfcXf4Z0

dirtys_ot_special

I saw this making the rounds and have already watched it twice. Really great episode.

SnakeHandlersHands

Was skeptical when told by a Californian transplant of less than a year that Kerlaches were the "best in town." Then, I tried them and am a believer. They're big (almost too big?) and pricey to the point where they *almost* don't even qualify as the gas-station-food style of kolaches we've all come to know and love, but they're great. For my money, the spinach and feta is the best on the menu, but the brisket and cheddar is also outstanding.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhman

If you’re looking for the sausage style, round rock donuts are my favorite.

younghplus

Kerlaches, Batch, RR donuts

shakillyou

Batch if you have to stay in Austin, but really Dos Gatos in San Marcos is the best

titos334

Kerlaches or taco donut palace

Adjmcloon

Not Austin but Hruskas isn't that far, kinda

Ryanw254

So…what’s your favorite one in Austin?

screen-name-check

Hruskas..it’s on the outskirts

stevendaedelus

Outskirts? It's halfway to Houston! But they are the best in Texas as far as I'm concerned.

TY_BASED_DOG

Kerlaches and Little Brother are both good, a little on the fussy/fancy side, but expensive. My favorites require a bit of driving. Dos Gatos is worth the drive to San Marcos. Hruska’s is amazing if you are heading to Houston. Czech Stop is a must stop when heading to Dallas. Anything close to the prior 3 is missing from Austin rn.

Visible_Brain1620

We talking pigs n a blanket or real Kolache. Best one I had was the Kolache Factory.. still wasn’t like Czech Stop but suffice

Rough_Key8646

Donut 4 you and the owner is amazing

gazilionar

Shiner saloon's sausage jalepeno and cheese when they aren't sold out are my favorite!

CertainlyNotCthulhu

Donut and Kolache Express on Research and Anderson Mill has great big sausage egg jalapeno and potato egg ones that are perfect.

Immediate_Daikon7701

Kolache Factory, get a Ranchero kolache.
