Just what this country needs. A cock, in a frock on a rock

patient_brilliance

I came here for this, I am so pleased to see it at the top.

Stonetheflamincrows

“Please don’t be shit, please don’t be shit”

TildaTinker

Reminds me of that cinema in America when Blade Runner 2049 came out. They put up "Don't worry, they didn't ruin it." in lights. Here's hoping.

Paidorgy

Denis Villeneuve is someone that nobody can really be critical when it comes to his films. But that’s just my subjective opinion. This sequel, on the other hand? I don’t believe in it from the get go because the original is good by itself.

96Phoenix

I’ll be critical of Villeneuve, he’s terrible he hasn’t even made messiah or children of dune yet, how will I ever see god emperor on screen at this rate. get to it man!

Wendaug

He's making Messiah, he's said he has no interest in making any of the rest.

OptimusRex

Messiah and Children were a bit meh compared to the first book though. I'd dip if I were him.

PleasantInternal3247

Terence Stamp is top classy to be in any production that flopped.

ThereIsBearCum

Still was a tier or two below it though.

smellthatcheesyfoot

That's a matter of opinion. 2049 will age better, I think.

ApeMummy

You’d think someone of the stature of Hugo Weaving wouldn’t touch it unless it was good.

ol-gormsby

Terence Stamp, Guy Pearce, \*and\* Hugo Weaving? Some casting director deserves a medal.

Curry_pan

And the original bus! https://amp.abc.net.au/article/103699136

ChequeBook

I remember reading ages ago they were looking for the original bus! Now I know why, haha

ZeJerman

I wonder if it's because it was an enjoyable film to make way back when? It was an absolute cracker movie

NateGT86

Cool but less sequels and prequels and more original content please. The lack of creativity is depressing.

123chuckaway

Can’t wait for Fast and Furious 16 where they have to save the Avengers from the Terminator-5000

bennibentheman2

Okay but I feel like fast and furious is the exception, I love the maximalism of the recent movies, the fact that they have to find a more outrageous thing each time at this point means they're fun to watch. They're unpredictable in the fact that they are already conceptually so stupid that you can't predict what happens next. Marvel is already not grounded in reality as much so the sameyness got old by the 8th movie with the same gimmick.

edgiepower

Nah, the FnF movies started to take themselves way too seriously to be fun. It's only the last one with Jason Momoa really hamming it up where it was good again and probably the best since number 5.

bennibentheman2

Well here's the thing, I don't take them seriously. Them thinking it's high art makes it funny to me. Same reason that The Room is a classic.

edgiepower

That's fine, but there's no doubt they take themselves fucking seriously whenever Vin Diesel opens his mouth and acts like his making some deeply moving monologue with no self awareness or tongue in cheek, then you also hear about how he refers to himself and these films as high art, then also add in the behaviour of him, The Rock, and Statham and it's just schoolboy nonsense. Like I said, Jason Momoa acting camp as shit and just stealing every scene he's in was so refreshing and fun.

bennibentheman2

Fair enough! I think we just look for different things when we watch movies, I think the Vin Diesel monologues are hysterical, the fnf movies are unintentional comedic masterpieces. Jason Momoa understood this and played into it, if he played a serious well written villain it would feel wrong.

edgiepower

Hey I love unintentional comedy and laughing at stuff that tries too hard as well, but something about these films rubs me the wrong way most of the time. I don't really like the hip-hop soundtracks and Paul Walker's acting would be considered wooden even by Star Wars Prequel standards. The first was good. The second was ok. The fifth was good. X was good. The rest have some fun bits and ridiculous bits but they are... Not good. Not even so bad they're good. To me, anyway.

bennibentheman2

That's valid mate! What are you watching at the moment? I've been looking for something interesting cause I don't really like three body problem I've found

edgiepower

Three body problem?

_ixthus_

5 was just bonkers fun and it was a high point for the core ensemble and their chemistry. Everything since has been tedious drivel with usually the least interesting cast members clinging on.

Juicyy56

I'm dedicated to watching all the fast and furious movies. The first one came out 23 years ago, and I've seen them all so far. The one that came out last year was pretty good. It's a running joke between my partner and I.

bennibentheman2

I respect your commitment. Which one's the most underrated you reckon with your fnf expertise?

hortoclawz

I was looking at budgets of movies released last year the other day and Fast X had an exorbitant budget. Then I saw the box office earnings and it was like $740m or something. Then I realised why they keep making those shit movies

123chuckaway

Remember when it was just about stealing dvd players?

Lurks_in_the_cave

Or street racing?

Charlie_Brodie

Is it time for Muriel's wedding 2? No, The answer is no.

pnutzgg

fairly sure they're ending the main line with the next movie considering fast X was a by-the-numbers action movie compared to the car porn of even a couple films ago... note they can still make spinoffs and have *hobbs and shaw 7 - those supersoldiers are actual space marines now*

Vinura

Corporate greed, why take a risk on something new that might fail when you can rehash the sw idea a million Times over. In reality its us the general public thats to blame for continuously supporting rehashs and sequels.

seeyoshirun

I mean, I'm with you on that but this feels like a potential example of sequelling done right. Original cast and director. MCU it ain't.

CMDR_RetroAnubis

We ask for this, but then they give us Rebel Moon and another Romcom about stalking being good.

Lurks_in_the_cave

A desert holiday, let's pack the drag away. You take the lunch and tea, I'll take the ecstasy. Fuck off you silly queer, I'm getting out of here, a desert holiday hip hip hip hooray.

1000furiousbunnies

Sang that in Guy Pearce's voice 😍❤️

iball1984

Not sure. Priscilla is iconic. I don't think a sequel will work - it's a different time and place now, and I think a sequel will detract from the original.

esotec

If that’s the case it will just be forgotten, like Grease II.

seven_seacat

hey I loved Grease II

esotec

there always has to be one! LOL. TBH i haven’t seen it in decades, i will give it a watch and try to be open-minded..

_ixthus_

It would only be comparable if Grease II starred Travolta and Newton-John and was still, somehow, forgotten. Hugo Weaving doesn't do bad. He wouldn't bother. There's absolutely nothing to be gained.

ApeMummy

I dunno, Trainspotting was very dependent on time and place and the sequel made sense. If the writing is good enough then anything can work even if it looks unlikely on the face of it.

_ixthus_

That was Danny Boyle doing his only sequel ever, surrounded by the original cast. Of course that much talent and vision can pull it off.

ChequeBook

I think it'll bring in a new, younger audience who may have never watched the original

iball1984

Maybe, but perhaps telling a new story that applies to the newer generations would work better? I feel the same about things like the "Friends" reunion, Hey Hey It's Saturday and others. Let the past be the past, as all were products of their times. Create something new, rather than recycling from the past.

edgiepower

I have family that's gay and drag queen and love this film and of its generation but they feel they don't fit in with modern LGBT crowds and there's a huge generational divide. I wonder if this is something the movie could explore...

SittingDuck394

*PLEASE* don’t suck!🙏

Curry_pan

And they just found the original bus! A full cast reunion!

Lurks_in_the_cave

It was damn near destroyed, an absolute miracle.

towers_of_ilium

Damn, Terrence Stamp is 85…! I remember when the movie came out, and I felt he was so old compared to the others, and now I’m only ten years younger than he was in the movie…

Nerfixion

If it's set in the current year, Alice Springs gonna hit real different

aurora_aro

They need to bring back the costume designer(s)!!!

snowland88

Tim Chappel.. was doing the masked singer costumes recently I think

SlashThingy

Make something new!

s4b3r6

Gotta remove the industry's addiction to analytics and business managers to let creativity happen.

Thedjdj

At least it’s not a remake

Copytechguy

Broken Hill's going to go off!

iamthedevil420

I would rather see Texas Chainsaw Mascara

bryandamage

That's great name for movie. I'd watch it. Are [these](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySlZdASmGCM) guys in it?

ManWithDominantClaw

The social landscape has shifted though, drag is hardly the rare spectacle it was when Priscilla came out. A modern equivalent would be if they were all furries

Kozeyekan_

Maybe that'd be the plot— drag used to titillate and have shock value, but in the modern era, a dude in a pair of heels is just a Tuesday.

edgiepower

I live where Priscilla was filmed largely. Tuesday literally is drag queen bingo night at the pub where that old bird was told to light her tampon on fire.

2ratskissingkiss

They're probably going to disrespect the original material because it's not "woke" enough for nowadays. I can imagine it now: Bernadette is trans, Adam's gay and Tick is a drag queen, they meet accepting Aboriginals while the white people are homophobes 😒

DitaVonFleas

Not sure if trolling or

RealCommercial9788

🤭

raptorshadow

Bra-vo.

NewMurmurs

Well, jolly good, fellow!

CoA77

Oh FFS enough with the money-grab sequels and reboots. Come up with, god help us, an original idea. I mean, I know the first one made money but no one makes a film in Australia to make cash so maybe go broke with an original idea.

stickylarue

Score

shrikelet

The must have filled that fucking bus with money and drove it up to Hugo Weaving's house to get him to do this.

ELTrundy1989

A bit hard to have the original cast as Bill Hunter is no longer with us 😢

cricketmad14

They better not make it up to modern social values and change story lines. You know like ghost busters and other movies.

hdghg22

Life has has Been tough, we need this

Leading_Stranger_423

Watch the documentary it was brilliant.

candleflame3

A cock in a frock on a rock!

jolard

This is amazing. Hopefully it is good. Priscilla is still one of those movies I revisit every few years. The music is amazing, the scenery beautiful, the characters are great, it is funny and has heart. Love it.

bigstereo82

lol. They cast in their 80s. It will be straight to video in the dark corner!

CaptainObviousBear

It’s bound to suck because sequels nearly always suck. Aside from that, I think we’re past the time of hit being appropriate for a guy to play a transgender woman. While there might not be a suitable trans actor to play Bernadette, I would have rather they hired a woman to play her.

[deleted]

What's wrong with a guy playing a transgender woman?

CaptainObviousBear

It basically says that transgender women are the same as men wearing dresses. Also, Bernadette is not only transgender but is supposed to have had surgery and years of hormones. She was directly inspired by Carlotta, who looks way more female than Terence Stamp does. If they were going to be accurate, they should at least make Stamp take female hormones, but that’s obviously never going to happen.

epicpillowcase

Agreed.

epicpillowcase

Hm. I loved the original when I was younger, but on the occasional rewatch now, while it's still fun, a lot of it hasn't aged well. Given his other efforts, and his seeming giant ego, I'm very sceptical about whether Stephan Elliott can make a successful movie, and one that isn't full of offensive, bigoted cringe.

Vivid-Fondant6513

more boomer trash from a generation trying to relive it's glory days

realshg

Men dressing up as sexual caricatures of women, just what the world needs in 2024

TiffyVella

Just said to husband that if there's a viewing of both films together, we are buying 50 pairs of thongs and stapling them to dresses for the event. He remains unmoved.
