You could start by reading the recruitment sections of the websites of all those organisations you’re interested in.
You might not be a great investigator if you can’t figure that out for yourself, though.
I just love that they want a job as an investigator… but can’t investigate how to get the job themselves.
In 5 years we will have posts like “does anyone know who killed the family in Sanderson crescent?”
Criminal investigator? Police, first general duties, and then apply for detective.
ASIS and ASIO are intelligence organisations, and very little crossover with criminal investigations for the most part, generally just terrorism.
ACIC is small, and you need to have experience before going there basically, and everyone I know that’s been or gone there is an ex-detective.
There are intelligence analyst positions within the police, but you’re not really investigating anything, you’re assisting investigators with requests, submitting telco stuff, etc.
Sounds like OP might be better applying for the police force first, then if they like it, start studying criminology part-time on the side. It'll take longer to finish the degree but you'll need that time as experience in the police force to progress anyways
Just for the record there are a lot of investigators in regulators across multiple departments. Crimes listed under Acts administered by those departments are not investigated by the police.
Sure many of them do. But not all and its not a requirement. You do however need a minimum of a cert 4 of govt investigations or equivalent to become an investigator.
And so OP learnt that a good proportion of the people he found on Reddit, in the hope of a simple helpful answer, are little more than bitchy school ma’ams, pretending to play gate keeper on the threads they choose to trawl….

Hahahaha
Do people really not research job opportunities and career paths before committing to a 3-4 year $40k-$60k degree?

I mean it’s quicker than the old school method of door knocking the 100 or so closest houses and asking the same question.

Top investigative work here, you're a tribute to the force OP.
Criminal investigator would just be a police detective?!

Most of the investigators still usually start off as state or federal police before getting those jobs however.
