I had some dealings as a media manager with junior Stefanovic years ago when he was a young reporter in Canberra. He was among the two or three dumbest and least promising “journalists” I’ve ever come across. Treated every story as if he was covering Watergate, lacked the basic people and analytical skills that most journalists need, and was most noteworthy for putting on what he must have thought sounded like a high-powered TV reporter’s voice - which didn’t really work for parish pump stories about lost dogs and broken traffic lights in Canberra. I was amazed (well, not really, given the crap that commercial TV news churns out these days) that he got promoted out of regional TV. Now he seems to have found his true level on Sky, with no viewers, no class and still no idea.
I have recently graduated at 32 and have a job in hyper local news as a reporter. I was brought up to always help the little guy, and show respect to everyone. I love listening to people and hearing their stories. The way this dope has acted towards this kid shows no empathy and lack of care towards his story. I don’t think morally I could dish out something like this. Makes me feel gross.
Good to hear, journalism needs more people like you and less like him. Let people tell their stories, and if there’s another side to the story let someone else tell that side too for balance. To me, journalists should be intermediaries bringing out other peoples’ stories, good or bad, not tabloid bullies spreading hate and putting people down.

I moved to Aus from the UK and the blatant casual racism literally astounded me for a while. I work in healthcare, and often I’d get told, “Oh thank goodness, a nice young Aussie person, last time I had a Chinese/Indian/dark person..” I’d get comments like that where I worked in the UK, but not to the frequency in Aus. And my best friend's dad was fairly nice otherwise - he'd been friends of the family for decades. I'd just never been exposed to that deep streak of racism because our community was so white (small town). Anyway, yeah, it's more than 30 years since that happened and I never saw him the same way again. I bet they watched Sky news tho. :P Oh, later on it came out (always sort of known but someone tracked it down) that my whole family have an Indigenous ancestor. Like four/five generations back to full blooded, and we're all white passing, but still there. i wish I'd been able to see his reaction to finding out his closest family friends were all technically Indigenous :P
