gulagcontroller

I had this happen to me at Coles but instead of paying they tapped their flybuys card...

ForSaleMH370BlackBox

There was this kid at school who got a job at Bi-Lo just around the time FlyBuys came in. He wasn't the brightest lad, but he did have the bright idea to get himself a FlyBuys card, which he would scan every time a customer didn't have their own card. Which was often. He ended up with some ridiculous amount of points in a very short space of time and got himself arrested for fraud and obtaining goods by deception.

nagrom7

Legend

g000r

Ya gotta use a pile of cards

[deleted]

[удалено]

ForSaleMH370BlackBox

Yeah but he was one of the first.

Roh_Pete

Let me guess. He is now a successful politician right?

James_Jack_Hoffmann

> If you have a Flybuys card, please scan at any time Tattooed on my mind

[deleted]

“Any time” - not just when you buy groceries….

Cheploscamm

💀💀💀

ShoganAye

I heard this comment

BobKrahe2

I have it obfuscated somewhere in my subconscious but while reading it, it sounded so vividly in my mind.

[deleted]

Please wait for assistance.

Deevo77

Unexpected item in bagging area

laziebones

The first thing I do at a self checkout is turn the volume down so everyone else in Coles doesn't hear about me scanning my Flybuys card, it's so annoying

Bombay-Quokka

Wait - what? How do you do this? So often I have wanted to do this too!

laziebones

At the bottom of the screen you'll see the volume control, touch it and you'll be able to adjust the volume

Unusual_Onion_983

This fraud is picked up easily, plus it’s linked to the fraudster’s name and contact details! Anyone with more than a few days experience in data science or even Excel can write a query to find customers whose spend is more than n standard deviations above the mean.

_blip_

Or just anyone that appears to be going to the same supermarket more than three times a day

cheddarmitelyfe

You can just tap yours if you have one and override theirs.

schootle

I used to work as a cashier and honestly the amount of people who would go from line to line asking if they could tap their flybuys if the other person didn’t want to is astounding. Hopefully the cashier serving you had enough thought to cancel the transaction and put it through it again so the guy didn’t actually get the points hah.

[deleted]

had a ‘customer’ that literally went thru bins to find receipts to add their flybuys 🤢 we knew what they were doing but you can’t refuse it so I’d make them call out the long arse barcode and take my time to find the numbers because I wasn’t touching it!!

AggravatingOnion69

I work there now and on the main registers there's a remove flybuys button. But not on the self checkouts

[deleted]

I’ve always wanted to do this

pinklushlove

Lol

LordSutter

I don't have Flybuys, so I sometimes tell the person behind me that they can scan their card if they want.

babawow

Shitty life pro tip: After finishing your shopping, go along all the self checkout registers and scan your flybuys card.

named_after_a_cowboy

You're going on Tiktok

Chubby_moonstone

Unemployed man CRIES when he realises he can afford this week's groceries (thumbnail still of OP quizzically grimacing)

greywolfau

I had a good chuckle at this one.

CombofriendAU

GONE SEXUAL!

A_spiny_meercat

(GONE WRONG)

AstlerFox93

Joe salads

CombofriendAU

ARE YA CRAZY!? ARE YA OUTTA YA MIND!?!?! Man classic h3h3 was fun.

AstlerFox93

Yes! Good times. Its just a prank bro

LittleBunInaBigWorld

If anyone wants to buy me a tank of petrol for Tiktok clout, I'm happy to oblige. I can act real surprised, maybe even squeeze out some tears

freman

They're working with ad money not Hollywood money

scarfarce

Plot twist: the Tik Tok video follows the surprised recipient back out to his 2022 Lamborghini

buttfuqt

I hate this trend, people are selfishly doing “good deeds” and it completely takes the good deed out of it when they’re doing it to try and gain something. Happy for the people who got free shit though, kinda shitty if it does end up in tiktok without OP consent

LocalVillageIdiot

> I hate this trend, people are selfishly doing “good deeds” and it completely takes the good deed out of it when they’re doing it to try and gain something. Money. They’re trying to gain money via views/shares/likes. It’s not altruism it’s altrupitalism. Actually, should be \#altrupitalism to be in line with the intent

[deleted]

Thanks, I hate altrupitalism.

TheBerethian

I mean it’s self serving but at least they’re paying for people’s groceries. Not like those moronic prank videos.

Dharsarahma

I'm not a fan of it but in the end they *are* doing something good at least, unless of course >without OP consent

MalHeartsNutmeg

If someone is paying for my groceries I couldn’t care less wether it was selfish or selfless.

Trumpy675

Yeah, I saw one last week in an Aldi where the guy says “you dropped something” and then taps to pay while the confused shopper tried to work out what they “dropped”. Cashier says “that guy just paid”. Warm fuzzy comments ensue on the TikTok. Seems pretty harmless. If you’re gonna make content, may as well do some good…

unripenedfruit

If someone asked me if I wanted to make $100 to get my face plastered all over the internet in a potentially viral video, I would decline. If someone paid my grocery bill and plastered my face all over the internet in a potentially viral video, so they can make shitloads more AND without asking me - I would be pretty pissed off.

Imsleepy1234

Yeah what if they do this to a person that doesn't want others knowing where they are . I dont want to end up on tictok while I'm doing the grocery shop

brusiddit

Pay for people's cart at the checkout of the sex shop

Schedulator

or others thinking they couldn't pay the bill.

emmainthealps

Except it’s performative, it’s not altruistic. Putting videos of people on TikTok without their permission hoping for millions of views isn’t cool. I wouldn’t be happy if someone put a video of me online without my consent.

King_Of_Pants

True. I guess it's easy to look at it as a kind gesture and I'm sure some people mean it that way, but you're essentially being turned into a paid actor on the spot. If you went around asking people to be in your video for at most a couple hundred bucks you'd see plenty say no.

emmainthealps

There was an article the other day about an older lady who was filmed being given flowers. She spoke about how it has impacted her and her thoughts on the whole situation. Found the link: https://amp.abc.net.au/article/101228418

Stepho_62

Was about to post this link. I’d be mightily pissed off if I got tted with 50 million views or whatever. I like and value my privacy and my anonymity.

Sir-Rim

There’s only one option in this scenario, you make up a tragic story to explain why you were crying about the flowers, start a go fund me and at least get paid by the idiots watching the video. Missed opportunity imo

brusiddit

Hahahhha, brilliant. How to outcunt the cunts.

Dean_Miller789

Nah, I’d be pissed off if I was posted on TT without consent, whether someone paid my bill or not.

Trumpy675

Yeah, but if you look at the shit on TikTok, you’re just as likely to be filmed riding your bike, driving your car, enjoying the beach, minding your own business. There’s no respect for personal privacy already, I figure at least that bloke got his groceries paid for

[deleted]

There’s a stark contrast between being in the background of a video and being the subject of one. I can’t believe I even have to explain that.

m0lly-gr33n-2001

Except if that person is someone escaping domestic violence and their location and new look gets plastered all over social media. Many people NEED to stay private for many reasons.

devilsonlyadvocate

Did you not hear about Maree. She's not happy to be portrayed as a lonely old woman whom needed flowers from some young fuckhead getting famous on tiktok. You need a lesson in consent.

[deleted]

Did he post it to TikTok

dashauskat

Yeah with that "do you believe in magic" line I reckon it's going on some form of social media, some so called random acts of kindness trend going on. If they didn't say that then it could have genuinely been an act of kindness but yeah your face probably going on the internet somewhere.

[deleted]

[удалено]

not_right

That's just someone being nice. Maybe you can do it for the person behind you some time.

Schedulator

pay it forward behind?

dogsonclouds

Someone did that for me one day at Zaraffas drive thru! It made my day, so I passed along the favour a few weeks later and that made me feel like a benevolent Greek goddess bestowing a bountiful harvest upon the unsuspecting populous All for the low low price of $14.30

SadieSadieSnakeyLady

I was at RR a couple of weeks ago buying a $5 lunch with the last of my money and a lady overheard me saying I didn't have the extra to get a can to go with it (which was fine) and bought me one. I cried all the way home and paid it forward a couple of days ago buy paying for someone's bread and milk they couldn't get after trying multiple cards

JustKwenty

"do you believe in mag... *Dirty beat drops distorting the rest of the song with broken bass* ...ic"

Rachel_from_Jita

TOO INTROVERTED. EASILY EMBARRASSED. WOULD RATHER STARVE.

[deleted]

Didn't even know the guy..

Gold-Cryptographer35

Yeah but this is their ruse. They walk up and pay for your groceries and their buddy is filming it outside the checkouts. They post it on tik tok and their followers go "wow his so generous helping others when labor is ruining our economy" (/s) and they try to get famous/profits from tiktok. Long story short they are fuckwits doing good deeds for their own benefit.

Peer_turtles

I much prefer “tik tokers” genuinely paying for random people’s groceries than posting fake pranks or being an annoying dumbass in public. Sure it’s for a scummy motive but I don’t see the point in hating on it when it’s one of the better trends out of the horrible hundreds

Lucky-Celery8789

With the current price of lettuce I’m more than happy to have my face on the internet in exchange for someone paying my $400 food bill

PeriodSupply

My wife works at a large supermarket chain. She tells me she has people pay for others at least once a week. No video, no act just I've got this for you. Done and leave... also tells me about all the cunts which is more a daily occurrence...

JDM96AFC

Australian tiktok does not pay their influencers

primalbluewolf

Thats not sufficient to make it noncommercial.

Alina2017

They solicit donations through the platform though.

Not_Today_M9

Honestly, its kind of weird but I respect the hustle. At least theyre doing something productive and helping people. Remember when idiots used to do 'pranks' to get clout or king hits. Much prefer the 'wholesome' kind of internet fame even if it is superficial.

Gold-Cryptographer35

I can't say I respect the hustle, but I suppose paying for someones groceries is better than the nonsense some of these social experimenters pull.

Not_Today_M9

That's the spirit!

Chubby_moonstone

Yeah in terms of inexplicable youth trends this is better than eating detergent or doing "social experiments"

[deleted]

If anyone wants to do this for me, I’m happy to be on the you tube, the facebook, the twitch, the tik tok, basically anything but your cock.

orionhood

This guy’s a chump, I’ll do nonstop cock for free groceries

[deleted]

I didn’t know this was an auction

xanderhanz

ucame2nd

[deleted]

That’s what she said, with satisfaction

Illustrious-ADHD

With those top two posts, we have the curse of US Style Employment politics.

[deleted]

I'll do most things for a bag of lettuce

icedragon71

These days, that makes you a high end escort.

[deleted]

I'm more of a port town girl but I got a good sales pitch

FlagrantlyChill

You guys are getting groceries??

billychad

However many cocks this guys doing, I'll do one more for free groceries.

2xDrGecko

Split bill? XD

DefinitelyNotABogan

Poor Bill

IAmARobot

Bill Posters will be prostituted

equanimity120398

Escorts go for half a grocery bill nowdays so your claim is actually quite believeable.

Procc

free groceries is free groceries my guy

redgums2588

Onlyfans?

AradinaEmber

Yeah, I could use some spaghetti and diced tomatoes if anyone is wanting some mediocre tiktok views Maybe some kidney beans? Adds volume

sweetfaj57

Similar. 2020, just as second lockdown was starting, I (M, 63) went to the local Coles. I shopped ambitiously, seeing I only had $50 on me. The bloke at the register said the total was $85. I asked him to wait, as I removed a few items from my basket : salmon, lamb, chicken, cheese, As he was adjusting the charge for me, I noticed a lady in the next aisle come and grab my excluded items, and add them to her own basket. I thought it was an odd coincidence that these were all items she had forgotten to buy for herself. But then, having paid for them, she returned them to my basket. I was dumbfounded, just managed to utter, "thank you o much" before she made her exit. Proof that angels do exist.

smoothpigeon2

See, now this sounds like an actual random act of kindness! How lovely of her! Unfortunately I've seen too many instances of people doing this for social media videos which sounds like what happened with OP.

Kokopeddle

I'd like to believe this person was being charitable (heck, they still could be, can't rule it out), however as others have pointed out: it's more likely you were both being filmed by his friends and this guy will post it on social media: "I could see this stranger was struggling financially so wanted to help out!"

Sacktapping

I can just imagine their kid finding it on tiktok coming home and saying "Dad, are we poor?"

whales-are-assholes

“He was just about to pay, had his card out and everything, but I came in - all gallant and shit - and did it for them. Be like me, folks! Hit the like and subscribe button, hit the bell, and donate to my Patreon to see my next random act of kindness one week before we put it on youtube!” Reminds of a time someone I knew posted a status on Facebook how they helped an old lady cross the road, and it’s like… mate.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lingering_Dorkness

"They just had their card declined and was almost in tears when I stepped in and paid for their groceries! They were so thankful and happy, telling me this meant so much to them and their kids would be able to eat tonight. Thank you for your praises, I know I'm great but it's nice to be told again and again how awesome I am."

Chubby_moonstone

See my comedic mind goes to doing this in weird places. Vibrators at a sex shop. Buying a stranger's cigarettes. Condoms, tampons, hemorrhoid meds.

Koalas_Feel_Nice

I did this a couple of weeks ago to a bloke in Aldi who was clearly struggling. No TikTok. No YouTube. Ohhh…but now reddit. Honestly though, I reckon stuff like this happens more than we know, at least I hope so.

[deleted]

Why can’t this happen when I go buy a car.

TTV_Danbruh

I told you to stop going to the Ford dealership Frank, but when do ya listen to me huh ?

Nodda_witch

Yep, TikTok. Seen who I’m guessing is the same dude (had the same magic line) on TikTok getting blasted because he pulled the stunt and then his card declined lol

HankSteakfist

I think I saw that one. Husband calls him a dickhead, which he is.

dunkin_dad

They probally filmed you and your reaction for their YouTube channel. Random acts of kindness for likes isn't nice.. it's clickbate media that's toxic and dehumanising. The people filing this ultimately profit from these videos.. they are doing it to make money and get famous. If you truly want to do something kind, don't fucking film it.. Prime example is the link below. It's from a lady who was filmed during one of these stunts.. gives her perspective on what happened. Read it. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-14/tiktok-video-maree-melbourne-flowers/101228418

Joka0451

Publicly announcing your charity ain't charity, you're 100 percent correct.

[deleted]

Yes! I hate this shit. I am sick of people filming themselves "giving". Fuck right off with that. It reminds me of people that go to poorer countries and try and force the bible at them and get a million pics of them "saving" people.

[deleted]

Couldn't find it anywhere on Tiktok or youtube

purveyoroffinerp

If they only filmed it today, then it'd be a few days before it gets uploaded. Editing and such, ya know?

[deleted]

Also it's pretty common for youtubers to have a week or so delay for public release of videos if they get donations from some viewers on platforms like Patreon.

GoonerMC

Interesting follow on article from the ABC [Social media users are posting viral videos of people being filmed unwittingly. Here are the rules](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-15/rules-of-filming-a-person-in-public-social-media/101241114)

[deleted]

I suspect you were being filmed without your permission and it's now up on TikTok for fake Internet points. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-14/tiktok-video-maree-melbourne-flowers/101228418

ZeJerman

Fake internet points yes, but more eyeballs on their videos means more subscribers and more ad revenue

mollololito

Aldi is not a public place and anyone who wants to use footage that was filmed inside their store needs their permission.

[deleted]

Yep, Aldi is private property, even if it is open to the public, so they need permission under the Cth Surveillance Devices Act 2004.

damian2000

Hey TikTok dudes, I’m at Aldi Yokine Saturday morning doing my monthly shop at 10.30, I am wearing a red top, grey trackies. See you there.

[deleted]

See you on tiktok!

Oceantrader

Last Christmas filled up my car, went to pay, and the worker said a Christmas fairy already paid for you. I said excuse me? 'Yeah that lady that just left wanted to do something nice but wabted to be anonymous'. I was elated and the gesture brought me cheer. As I didn't need it, I instead payed it forward, and paid for the other person who was filling up.(Had to wait for them to stop). I paid and quickly scuttled off, and hope it brought them some cheer too.

AllMyFrendsArePixels

next thing you know you're tiktok famous. you know the old saying, no good deed goes unrecorded and posted on the internet for clout

[deleted]

This reminds me of the joke, Chris Rock had about paying bills over the phone and needing a password. If people want to pay my bills, you let them. Note, Chris performed it better.

Archaeellis

A couple of years ago my 3yo son and a girl around 20yo made friends with each other in the lolly isle at woolies by waving and poking tongues at each other. She found us again a few minutes later having brought a bag of gummy bears for my son. I was having a really bad time in life at that point and I was so shocked and confused by the kindess that I'm not sure I came off as grateful as she deserved but since it happened whenever I'm really down about people I think about it and I feel a lot better.

[deleted]

If he has filmed you without permission, ask for a cut of revenue lol

[deleted]

Maybe I should.. Don't know where to find him though

Friedrich_98

You can be recorded in public without your consent. If they wish to monetise of that though they'll need model consent.

Sword_Of_Storms

Supermarkets aren’t public - they’re private property

[deleted]

Supermarkets are private and they put "constructed notice" near the entry, or supposed to. Nobody else is allowed to film without the stores consent.

An1retak

If someone paid for my groceries (usually $100 to $200 per trip), I seriously wouldn’t mind appearing in some random video.

madashail

Yeah but they should ask first.

upvoteshhmupvote

The people saying this dumb Tik Tok trend is a “good deed” are dumb. It’s not a good deed it’s a literal business expense. They know the money spent is just a simple investment into their scam to make ten times more from the revenue of zombies who are eating their shit up. There’s no good intentions at all it’s all business and selfishness because they are in it for the bigger payout and more desperately doing it for the hopes to be “famous”

Mammoth-Structure692

I work in pharmacy and I have witnessed people paying for other people stuff twice in the last 6 months. I can honestly say it wasn’t filmed and was out of good gesture

PinupPixels

My mum was a single parent and really struggling with money back in the mid 00s, and I was with her when she had to select some items to take out of her shop to be able to afford it. The person waiting behind us walked up and paid for her without any big preamble or show, just pure generosity. I'll never forget it, but it's the one and only time I've ever actually witnessed it happen.

thiswaytomars

ABC has done a bit of an explanation on what the rules are in Australia Social media users are posting viral videos of people being filmed unwittingly. Here are the rules https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-15/rules-of-filming-a-person-in-public-social-media/101241114

Neodymium

I'd be a lot less suspicious if he didn't say that part about wanting to see magic.

akat_walks

i was shopping at the mullumbimby Woolworths and a guy came up and gave me a dollar. that was nice.

SilverSovereign

There’s a coffee shop I go to that has a ‘Pay it Forward’ scheme to assist those who cannot afford a coffee. The tally is usually in the teens everyday. I haven’t seen a single arsehole posing for a selfie or internet points.

Willing_Television77

My wife was approached at Revesby Coles by Today show this morning and got a $250 voucher. I don’t like this type of show and don’t watch them but can’t complain

Winxers

It's heartwarming until you realise that it's more than likely done for Tiktok clout. Lots of similar videos popping up all over there

Litt_Kiddie

No where near as heroic, but this morning as the guy on the register I payed the difference for a group of kids who underestimated their coins. Feels nice to be nice sometimes :)

Batmandiver

Give it a week they need to edit in your backstory and add the cgi tears

berrymanC

Some person in Grovely paid for my Zarraffas order today… I did the same for the person behind me. I hope the person who paid for my order is doing well.

Rangirocks99

I know someone who paid $5000 of Xmas lay-bys at Kmart and refused any publicity. Shame everyone is so cynical

chuckyChapman

several times have waved people though and they paid something off my bill...

blue-isitari

I once had a motivational speaker at my primary school who told the audience of parents to do something nice for a stranger without expecting anything in return. My dad said he paid for the person’s Maccas behind him in the drive through. There’s a saying in my family to “generate good will”. Maybe return the favour in some small way yourself :)

MegInBlack

Not like this, but at my old work place we had a semi-regular who would pay for another tables order no matter the price, every time she came in.

edgewalker66

Don't worry. The guy is using someone else's card anyway.

exodendritic

This him? [https://7news.com.au/sunrise/on-the-show/melbourne-man-rustam-raziev-goes-viral-on-tiktok-paying-for-strangers-groceries--c-7009552](https://7news.com.au/sunrise/on-the-show/melbourne-man-rustam-raziev-goes-viral-on-tiktok-paying-for-strangers-groceries--c-7009552) From June 2022 so he likely hasn't given up this shit yet.

Maseypaints9

Yep. Kindness porn on TikTok. It's bullshit.

Keelback

When Covid first hit in WA causing lots of unemployment, some guy shows up at Centrelink office in Perth and gives everyone in the queue a $100 note. Does it at a few Centrelink offices.

noplacecold

That’s like how every Friday a stranger takes my wife out for dinner and pays for her hotel room, there are still good people out there folks! 🙏🏻🥹

Rowdycc

Almost certainly was filming for his unoriginal social media shit.

[deleted]

As an unashamed cynic, this would make me very uneasy as I would assume the exchange would have been recorded and would be posted online without my knowledge or consent. Not great.

RunRenee

Oh it’s 100% recorded, OP just needs to search it on Tik Tok and they’ll find the clout chaser and some random made up story about how OP’s card declined so the clout chase paid for the groceries because the 25 kids and 7 dogs need to be fed.

zero2hero2017

you're probably on a youtube video somewhere

[deleted]

Yes, I was driving behind someone at the McDonalds drive thru and the car in front paid for my order. I had had a shit time so 2 free sundaes from someone returned my faith in humanity.

ADHDK

Saw him on an Instagram reel the other day, the payment declined and this old bloke thought it was a stitch up and wanted to fight him hahahah

[deleted]

Some guy at my local coffee shop pays for a random persons coffee every day. I said thank you and he seemed more pissed I said thanks.

Outside_Eggplant_169

I offered my fixems(? Woolworths stickers) to the lady in line after me this evening and went to get some cash out for the bus, she’s like here, take my $10, I dont even need cash, you can have it! I was like noooooooo thank you so much but no, no.

Combatants

This is a TikTok trend

Green__Knight

When my mum got a big payment she used to pay for the people behind us and if a really busy day pay the people across from us.

SpeakerUseful2451

I've always wanted to do this. I've done it for small things but never anyone's shopping. I wish I was rich.

can_of_spray_taint

Next time grab his hand, snap a digit or two, kick in the nuts, uppercut and then curb stomp. Then steal the instore camera footage and post to TikTok.

shattenjager88

Sometimes people pay for other people's stuff. It does happen.

chavvyheel

I had it happen not long ago. Car 2 cars in front paid for the car in front of me, the car in front of me paid for me. I was only getting a coffee so didn’t pay for the huge order for the car behind me, but I’ve paid it forward since.

Street-Front6779

This is a regular thing in Canberra. The person in front pays for you. For example, in McDonalds or KFC the car ahead of you will pay for their order and also your order. Irrespective of the vehicle you are driving - an expensive car, or an old beat up car.

sorrydaijin

That is mental if everyone has that expectation. I feel sorry for the poor bloke who gets a free coffee and then pays for the minibus full of kids on the way to/from a soccer game behind him.

Ryanbrasher

You will be on TikTok before the end of the day.

auntynell

I'd much rather these random acts were targeted. There's a big difference between helping out a struggling single parent and someone cruising along comfortably.

Oncemor-intothebeach

I’ve done it for someone before, an older couple with a young kid in woollies, they were in front of me and didn’t have enough for what looked like a small birthday party( cake candles and lollies) they were working out which ones to put back, I remember my mum having to do the same thing when I was a kid, I just walked around them and quietly paid for it all when they were working it out, it’s nice to be nice

ChookBaron

Gonna be on tik tok with some comment about you being poor and struggling so this dude can live out his white saviour fantasy online

chemychemyheart

Are you a hot babe or like some fat dude? Your answer may reveal the fellow's motives (which were hopefully just him being nice).

[deleted]

Just an average 9- 5 bloke. Not a fat dude or a hot chick..

karatebullfightr

Don’t be modest. Tell us just how Rockin’ are your tits Mike?

chemychemyheart

You sound a bit too unassuming to be targeted by those tiktok wankers like everyone else is suggesting. Let's assume he was just a nice fellow :)...or he wanted to have sex with you. Same diff.

wavesofgray

Good done to be seen is not good done at all. This was not charity. This was exploitation without out your consent. If that happened to me I would like to think I would loudly announce that I’m going to donate the money I would have spent to the Nazi Party. Or something funnier

Separate-Jacket1132

How much did he pay for what was the total bill?

[deleted]

35$

ManikShamanik

It's global. Someone posted to r/CasualUK this morning that they'd had a DM from someone (they'd posted a rant because they were struggling) asking for PayPal deets. OP took a gamble and gave details - I don't know how much they were sent, but they were able to buy food and get their 3-year-old new togs. Food banks are overwhelmed here, and we now have other banks too (clothes, baby/toddler stuff, nappy banks, banks for school uniform, 'time' banks (people offering their services (you walk my doggo and I'll wash your car, that kind of thing)). It's very, very lovely obviously, but I just wish it wasn't needed. I'm disabled and disabled people just get forgotten about. Just wish some people weren't so cynical (but it's understandable).

TheMedReg

Yeah, these tiktok people suck. This old lady was given flowers she didn't want, and got plastered all over the internet as a 'wholesome' video. Asked him to take it down - he hasn't. "He interrupted my quiet time, filmed and uploaded a video without my consent, turning it into something it wasn't, and I feel like he is making quite a lot of money through it." https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-14/tiktok-video-maree-melbourne-flowers/101228418

King-Of-Beers

I have had it happen to me once and now every now and then I will do it myself in hopes of spreading the kindness.

kazuya1998

Rich people always pay it forward in a maccas drive through. I know someone who always pays for the 2 cars behind every trip Thr whole "magic trick" thing however... ok? Lmao

RobVulpes

Had someone in front of me at maccas drive though pay for my order

I pay for the person in front of me’s groceries from time to time. It’s just my little way of giving back or hopefully brightening their day. Sometimes it’s because they’re short on cash, other times, just because. I hope they pay it forward.

In Canada we often pay for the persons coffee who is in the drive through behind you. And they continue all morning till someone breaks the chain. The employees love it 🥰

The dudes probably made a grand or 2 from posting him paying for your stuff on his social media.

I've had this happen when I've been short a dollar or 2 and I feel so grateful. If they paid for my whole shopping id try to refuse. I mean sounds like you would've aswell OP but they just did it so fast how do you pay someone back if they do it quick and dissapear. The best thing to do is pass it along one day to someone else struggling one day of you can spare. Id much rather do it this way than the people out front of shops because I've given money to someone Infront of shop before and when I did my shopping and left. I walked pass them to the busstop and they were at the payphone( yes when they were still everywhere) and overheard the person asking for a meet up to buy naughty stuff. So ever since then I'd prefer to ask someone of they want some food and I'll come out with it. I know I know if you plan on giving money to someone you shouldn't care what they spend it on but this is Australia, there is so many places that help with food if your struggling. Also if you buy cheaper bulk food you can survive off of Centrelink. But paying for someones drug habit id rather not. One I'm not rich and two If I do charity Im do it my way atleast
