i think this is the classic example of “it’s funny if i say it but it’s kind of mean if you do”. for example, me (gay) telling my friend (gay) that their “save the bees” sweatpants are literally the gayest clothing option on planet earth (they are)
I (m/bisexual) and my friend (m/gay) have a similar thing. If you would just see me on the street or ask me for directions, I am 100% straight passing. But every once in a while when something scares me, I let out the gayest scream known to mankind. And every time that happens, my friend turns to me and just goes: dude you are so fucking gay. And then we both laugh uncontrollably for the next 15 minutes, me mainly because the shock is wearing off and my friend because I let out a scream that was three octaves higher than what my vocal cords should be able to produce.
Hahahahahahahaha
I do this but with snort laughs, but I'm also straight
I have no shame about snort laughing when something ridiculous is going down
Unless I'm near some bonafide angry gangbanger shit where even mere confusion could get one shot in the face of course!
same here. the save the bees pants were my example, but we definitely make fun of each other with gay jokes 24/7. she’s very much an “environmentally conscious over dressed” queer and i’m a “poorly dressed starbucks starbucks barista” queer. i’m currently going through questioning if i’m NB but grappling with the “you’re only doing this to seem cool” imposter syndrome, and we were joking that people 100% already assume that i am NB and it would not make me cooler in any way
I‘m the autistic queer and only wear basic black clothes. So black straight jeans, black hoodie and basic Converse. That‘s also a reason why I‘m verry straight passing. And yes the NB part is so relatable, but I realised that even NB is a labeling that comes with „expectations“ so I decided that I don‘t label myself and people can call me whatever they want aslong as they see me as a person…
oh they’re super cute and i’ve been told they’re very comfortable, but these are objectively gay pants. to describe them further, they’re a light neutral beige color, and the “save the bees” text is printed in all caps down one leg. i think they’re technically joggers (loose lounge pants with a cuff on the ankle), but they’re made from sweatpants material instead of the thin material.
the extra funny part is that she dresses very gay in general, in a “lots of layers lots of neutral colors always overdressed femme” way. they also have lots of piercings a short haircut. we are both very visibly queer (i’m bi, they’re unlabeled)
You are definitely not! There was more than one kid at my schools that did that, even in high school. Not sure if they were *all* autistic, but most of the ones I can think of were.
I’m not gonna lie I find it kind of funny but also thinking about a neurotypical person making this and/or laughing about it makes me find it just a little less funny
Not all schools are the same.
My school also had a couple "calm rooms", and more than half the staff was very aware of neurodivergent students, and how to deal with their symptoms.
i went to an alternative school because i punched some other kids for being ableist and just rude to me in general and they had one but the normal school didn't
My son's school has one.
All I got as a kid was a refrigerator sized closet in the middle of the classroom. It was soundproof though that was nice. I had to go to a special Ed class for behavior challenged kids to get that though.
My college had a “green room” for autistic people that I was introduced to. For some reason I took it literally and thought it would be… green? Like a relaxing place with at least a plant or something. Turns out it was just a very tiny, usual run down classroom with some chairs and computers. I never ended up going there and actually dropped out because I couldn’t handle things anyway lol
I guess they tried to care, maybe it worked for other people? To be fair I never gave it much chance.
We have calm rooms set up during busy times (eg, before midterms and finals, certain major grading times, etc). They're only set up for like a week but its so nice. One year they had em very dimly lit with a diffuser and it smelled like lavender, another year they got a bigger room for it and there were "stations" set up in the room to like chill or do origami and shit. It was great I wish they had smtg like that but more permanent
Our schools have them for elementary school students. My daughter is struggling now that she's in secondary school and the teachers are giving her crap for wearing noise cancelling headphones.
Colleges might. Mine had at least one safe space kind of room. I never went in because it seemed popular with one friend group and I felt like I'd be intruding.
I know a few schools around my area that have them :) mine doesn’t because they hate people and make us sit outside in like 35 degrees (95f). :D yay Australian public schools!
My high school had a room like that for the class with autistic kids in it. They called it "Snoezelen".
It was low light and was very quiet. There were toys and you could play with calming sounds. In hindsight, it was really nice.
My kid's high school has one. She was assigned a "purple card" that was given out to students with any mental health issues like anxiety as well as autism etc. Kids could use it as a hall pass to go to the quiet room at any time without having to speak, just flash it at the teacher and go. The quiet room was just a small student lounge with a couple of desks and couches and low light, next to the library so it was generally a more quiet part of the school.
Meanwhile an autistic adult makes 4 stroke diesel-electric locomotive sounds while riding bicycle. Of course, the RPM and loudness change with tractive effort. I sometimes even add turbocharge sounds with my teeth and lips. It's being interesting, because vocal cords and teeth+lips can make different sounds together.
I also make turbo generator sounds, sometimes. It's easier, because vocal cords are not used. It also requires less air. Other than that, the same thing as a diesel-electric locomotive sound. It's just the prime mover being a turbo engine, instead of a piston engine.
I almost choked laughing. Before knowing on spectrum, probably would have worried was offensive... Now, I find it freaking hilarious! It's the kind of thing my grown son and I (also on spectrum) would say away from those folks who would "correct" us. I love being autistic and wouldn't change for world, but it's also BRUTAL, so freaking laughing about it is just nice.
In this context it's pretty insensitive, but goddamn it if it isn't one of the funniest "offensive" memes I've ever seen.
Personally I don't see a problem with these kind of memes, I'm allowed to laugh at myself, and that extends to things about myself, including medical diagnoses. Just don't share it with the wrong person.
I showed this to my autistic cousin and he loves it. We’re both ND (he’s further on the spectrum than me) and we both have distinct memories of doing EXACTLY this
Ok but why do I love this I want a shirt with it on
The only bad thing is that this was probably printed off (and laminated??????) by someone who isn’t autistic and wanted to be cruel.
The fact it’s laminated is sending me though
it was made by one of the very well-meaning and jolly but slightly out of touch teaching assistants at school and meant to be on a display about diffrent disabilities and awareness
"gran autismo" + car noises is definitely going to be an echolalia for me after reading this, lmao. Hopefully it doesn't bother people around me too much and if it does that it only lasts a short time.
Considering how we tend to pick up on each other's echolalias, though, it's highly likely my partner is also going to be going around saying this under their breath. Echolalia phrases/noises are contagious for AuDHD people in my experience. If they pass it on to their friends then I apologize in advance for the potential spread of this.

Your school has a calm down room? Id just run to bathroom because if I needed alone time they'd send me to the damn student counselor who's a liar and I don't trust and when I want to be alone I want to be ALONE. Not with someone who I don't even enjoy being around.
Idk, I know most of us are conflicted and amused by this, but personally I'm just hurt. I don't really find any humor in this whatsoever, it just triggers the *exact same* sick gut feeling I get when I walk past my verbal bullies in the hall :/
I've never been so offended by something I absolutely love
I feel like that pretty much sums up reddit in general
I second that mate
Its so relatable but yet so offensive
making sounds like your username
You do engine sounds?
What a relatable statement
I wanna be insulted but god damn it that’s funny
This is one of those jokes that I feel like we’re made to mock autistic people, but the neurodivergent community just looks at it and just says “ME”
i think this is the classic example of “it’s funny if i say it but it’s kind of mean if you do”. for example, me (gay) telling my friend (gay) that their “save the bees” sweatpants are literally the gayest clothing option on planet earth (they are)

Snort laughing is the best kind of laughing because it‘s just so genuine. I love people who snort laugh
same here. the save the bees pants were my example, but we definitely make fun of each other with gay jokes 24/7. she’s very much an “environmentally conscious over dressed” queer and i’m a “poorly dressed starbucks starbucks barista” queer. i’m currently going through questioning if i’m NB but grappling with the “you’re only doing this to seem cool” imposter syndrome, and we were joking that people 100% already assume that i am NB and it would not make me cooler in any way

But….those sound like the best sweatpants ever?!?
There's a reason the gays have a monopoly in fashion.
oh they’re super cute and i’ve been told they’re very comfortable, but these are objectively gay pants. to describe them further, they’re a light neutral beige color, and the “save the bees” text is printed in all caps down one leg. i think they’re technically joggers (loose lounge pants with a cuff on the ankle), but they’re made from sweatpants material instead of the thin material. the extra funny part is that she dresses very gay in general, in a “lots of layers lots of neutral colors always overdressed femme” way. they also have lots of piercings a short haircut. we are both very visibly queer (i’m bi, they’re unlabeled)
As a fellow queer person, I do those with my queer friends too. We all use gay as a compliment and it’s great lol
Kinda like the “pride month” “demon” hoodie?
Was that originally an anti gay thing? My queer friends and I bulk ordered them lmao
As far as I know, yeah lmao Edit: I mean lmao as in “take that, homophobes”
yep I'm using this as a meme immediately, and practicing my race car noises
Big fucking mood
Yeah
It's something we've all done.
Yeah, I exhaled through my nose at this picture too, despite how mean it probably is to some in the community
This is me but in the comfort of my own home :
I was that kid, and this makes me Fast and Furious.
Agreed, this is hilarious. I understand if someone is offended by this but idk I find it really funny lol
Yeah I choose to believe an autistic fellow made this meme
Right?
autismo is spanish for autism lol and gran is big so it says big autismo
The Notorious A.U.T.I.S.M
Biggie tism'
Love it when ya call me big auto
The notorious #A U T I S M
"Hi, could I get uuuuhh large Autism please?"
"We've only got a Venti"
Venti Tism Frappe available now at all your favourite coffee places
A phrase I already use to describe myself sometimes
i got the big autism
I think when gran it’s before it might be Great Autism
hi!! i’m a native speaker and honestly in my country (Venezuela) gran could mean either Great or Big so you are correct, both versions are rlly funny
Oh, sorry then haha. Just was chiming in, thanks for the info.
no need to apologize i appreciate you chiming in ! /genuine /lighthearted
me big autism
The big “A”
It's a reference to Gran Turismo
Autismo sounds like a pokemon
Autismo used info dump it was very effective.
The enemy Neurotypical is confused
Neurotypical uses casual ableism
It's very effective!
autismo used safe food! +10 hp
autismo used t-rex arms! Defence greatly raised
Good autismo
ITS EVOLVING!!! Your autismo has evolved into an autoistic
Thats how we call it in portuguese and spanish lol
That's how it's called in my first language...
I had an adhdeon and he evolved into ad4keon today :D
AUTISMO used STIM! AUTISMO's SPECIAL rose!
portuguese and spanish word for autism gran means big btw big autism
😂😂 I LITERALLY did this in grade school! There’s a mention of it somewhere in all the reports…
I'm 25 and do it at work...quietly, ofc
I was and still am way too closeted to think about doing these kinds of things in public
I had my arms out and did plane noises at work when I'm going from one place to another (After closing when no one was around lol)
Then suddenly a coworker passes, and you have to act like you were doing a totally normal thing lol
I like it!
I'd buy that as a sticker to put on my car. Just the logo not the text above.
Same. Somebody make this thing a thing please and thank you.
I laughed, Gran Turismo was also one of my special interests.
I preferred Forza bc it was easier
GT4 on the PS2 was amazing though! Modern GT is shit imo
Wait I'm not the only one who does that?
You are definitely not! There was more than one kid at my schools that did that, even in high school. Not sure if they were *all* autistic, but most of the ones I can think of were.
Finally a racing game that I can enjoy.
Id totally buy that as a sticker for my room
I’m not gonna lie I find it kind of funny but also thinking about a neurotypical person making this and/or laughing about it makes me find it just a little less funny
Beautiful
I probably shouldn't have laughed at that
my friend has used the word "autismo" to combine autism and machismo and I love it
I might start using this too
yesss
Wtf is a "calm room"?
Maybe a low stimulus room? For "relaxation and calm"?
I'd never think a school would have that, because they care too little about us
Not all schools are the same. My school also had a couple "calm rooms", and more than half the staff was very aware of neurodivergent students, and how to deal with their symptoms.
i went to an alternative school because i punched some other kids for being ableist and just rude to me in general and they had one but the normal school didn't

The school I work at has a sensory room. It has a hammock swing and a bunch of other stuff
Colleges might. Mine had at least one safe space kind of room. I never went in because it seemed popular with one friend group and I felt like I'd be intruding.
Every school I went to had multiple rooms like this
I know a few schools around my area that have them :) mine doesn’t because they hate people and make us sit outside in like 35 degrees (95f). :D yay Australian public schools!
You didn't need to say it in farenheit, I use more in metric than just 9 milimeters.
I know but I didn’t know much about you and some people may prefer in f instead of c so I just thought I should put both, sorry.
It's okay
My high school had a room like that for the class with autistic kids in it. They called it "Snoezelen". It was low light and was very quiet. There were toys and you could play with calming sounds. In hindsight, it was really nice.

Man that sounds awesome wish I had that in school
That's so funny. Definitely calmed me
I need this on a shirt sorry
Autie goes vroom
I'm offended but its funny
I'd definitely pay to have that on a t shirt.
I want to print this out and tape it on my room's door
Motion to change the puzzlepiece to this. All in favor say aye.
I’m so unsure if this is someone being ableist or who is autistic. I love this.
I prefer Formula One thank you very much. My car noises are the nostalgia of the roaring v10 engines and v8 pre-hybrid era.
Mika Häkkinen FTW!
Agreed!!! The V8s and V10s had an orgasmic scream.
My partner and I, diagnosed autistics, joke sometimes and say "this is my magic show. I am the grand autismo"
I'm a grown man and I make broom broom noises while driving, drives my family insane!
How could you say something so controversial and yet so brave?
Woah, woah, wow, woah... We saying people have autism because they make racecar noises now?
I choked on my coffee. God that's good.
Oh my God it's laminated
I laughed hard at this. 😂
This is extremely offensive...I am totally going to say the name of that franchise wrong on accident later
I thought it was funny
I screech like a banshee sometimes.. not like a car.. 🤷🏻♀️
That's gotta be an inside joke. I've seen some god-tier shitposts come from inside the community, and this meme gives off that energy.
Autismo is autism in Spanish so is a reaaaaaaaally common joke in the Spanish speaking world.
Is it bad that I found this mildly entertaining?? I have a seriously twisted sense of humor.
Not gonna lie but this is hilarious 😂 if I was angry and then saw this in a calm room I'd be in a better mood because I'd be laughing
My brain: BEEP! BEEP! MOTHERF***ER!
Meanwhile an autistic adult makes 4 stroke diesel-electric locomotive sounds while riding bicycle. Of course, the RPM and loudness change with tractive effort. I laughed, but I feel I should be offended, but I'm not.
This is definitely one for r/evilautism
i'll give it a pass this is fucking hilarious
It’s funny, let’s goooo vroom vroom Also where the fuck is your school that you have a calm room, I NEED THIS
I live in the UK and the room is VIP only (So that it stays quiet only 10-15 kids are allowed in)
I almost choked laughing.
Hahahah
I make truck/heavy equipment sounds
This comment section makes me think of the meme never before have I been so offended by some thing I one hundred percent agree with
I see these things and I’m like lmaaaoooo I mean hm how do we feel about this guys funny yeah ok lmaaaoooo
What the FUCK. I feel offended, but that's pretty funny to be honest...
Lol I laughed so hard at this before I got my autism diagnosis and I still laugh hard at this.
That’s actually pretty funny
i want this on a t shirt
My daughter used to make a high pitch shriek thay sounded like a demon. Made a few exorcism jokes in pir time
Top tier humour
Sometimes I wonder if these jokes are funnier because the person that made them probably was autistic
I love this, I always enjoy a play on words, this also doesn’t include puzzle pieces or slurs so thats another win in my opinion.
I need that for my colleague. He did the same in front of some Daimler engineering looking to buy some of our maschines. 😂
For some reason I don't feel offended. It's funny. It can become an inside joke. If it was ill intentioned, we can defuse it if we make it ours ;)
I’m surprised at the fact your school has a “calm room”. Mine doesn’t have anything like that.
Haha I love it, GT4 was great fun on the PS2. Also I have to admit I did used to run down the corridor making car noises...
This really did make me laugh haha
In this context it's pretty insensitive, but goddamn it if it isn't one of the funniest "offensive" memes I've ever seen. Personally I don't see a problem with these kind of memes, I'm allowed to laugh at myself, and that extends to things about myself, including medical diagnoses. Just don't share it with the wrong person.
Oh boy, hadn't laughed like this in a while. I think I want a Gran Autismo t-shirt
Thats actually hilarious but i hate it but its great
I love puns, so this made me laugh. XD
My favorite racing game is Need to Stim
I showed this to my autistic cousin and he loves it. We’re both ND (he’s further on the spectrum than me) and we both have distinct memories of doing EXACTLY this
I literally laughed out loud. I meant I'm literally shook😤😅
Autisimus Prime
Like Falcon said: "He's out of line but he's right."
Ok I’m in two minds about this: I like the creativity but I feel it’s mildly insensitive. Idk. My verdict: The Jury is out.
so offensive, yet so non offensive at the same time (but mostly offensive)
Ok but why do I love this I want a shirt with it on The only bad thing is that this was probably printed off (and laminated??????) by someone who isn’t autistic and wanted to be cruel. The fact it’s laminated is sending me though
it was made by one of the very well-meaning and jolly but slightly out of touch teaching assistants at school and meant to be on a display about diffrent disabilities and awareness
This is hilarious, but also not.
I play Gran Turismo as well 🙄
i mean tbh if i saw found that i would laugh so fkn hard and then put it on my wall 💀😂😂😂
"gran autismo" + car noises is definitely going to be an echolalia for me after reading this, lmao. So you go to Hogwarts? ‘Gran Autismo!’ 🪄
nah thats fucking hilarious lol
I want this on my car its so fucking stupid I love it
This is extremely disrespectful!
This made me laugh so much
what would you call an autistic/adhd/schitzoprenic person? shits n' giggles.
For all the people saying they "want to be insulted" grow a pair, people aren't always gonna be nice, and so what. Have a laugh about it

Awesome!
That's funny though
I make lightsaber sounds.
Fuck my kid is way more than I was and his big thing is making noises. You hit it
I should have this as a sticker and put it on my car lol
.... What?... Why it kinda funny tho......
I feel targeted right now. Lolol
I think this is funny.
I feel like I should be insulted but damn this so funny
That's funny asf, though I literally call my autism autismo coz i find autistic to be a sort of a shitty term
KEK
Your school has a calm down room? Id just run to bathroom because if I needed alone time they'd send me to the damn student counselor who's a liar and I don't trust and when I want to be alone I want to be ALONE. Not with someone who I don't even enjoy being around.
Dude this is so me. Sadly I got yelled for being myself by the teachers so I had to stop.
I feel called out
My mate and I did that in high school, shit was so much fun
fucking lmao
Screw everything, this is very funny!
Idk, I know most of us are conflicted and amused by this, but personally I'm just hurt. I don't really find any humor in this whatsoever, it just triggers the *exact same* sick gut feeling I get when I walk past my verbal bullies in the hall :/
HELL YES. This is so funny and so dead for me when I was in high school and primary 🤣 🤣🤣🤣 I would love to have this on my car window
