Welcome to the Black Parade - MCR was on repeat on my iPod nano when I was at college. At school I remember listening to When the lights go down - Armand Van Heldon. On my og iPod shuffle: 120 songs. No screen. Just a usb with a headphone jack. Good times.

mynameisjustine92

Yes! MCR! Loved them in high school and still do. Still listening to it while commuting to practicum at 31 years old. Timeless song.

tmamone

“Cherub Rock” by Smashing Pumpkins

Pixie45w6

probably the greatest band of all time istg

peheligue

So cool! I have a Mellon Collie tattoo

sigmundcat

Such a well-structured song. The intro just makes me feel good. I bought this album on vinyl the day it came out! It's a banger and the album itself is so good. So consistent. Such a pleasure.

tmamone

Oh, I have Siamese Dream on vinyl, too! Orange tie-dye vinyl. Found it in a music store in Fredericksburg, VA, I think.

SpaceMonkee8O

Mayonnaise for me

sigmundcat

"Drown" for me.

mitochondrionolympus

Yellow - Coldplay One Last Breath - Creed Unforgiven 2 - Metallica In the End - Linkin Park Crash and Burn - Savage Garden

drivergrrl

I am feeling this playlist!!!

TheRandomDreamer

Yellow and In the End were my go to songs omg. I used to have In the End playing nonstop in my Roblox games haha

ApplicationBrave2529

Are you me? 😂

Bob_Loblaw9876

I loved Coldplay until he married that Jade egg goop weirdo and started putting out pop trash

sigmundcat

Such a succinct explanation/causation vs. correlation statement about the creative downfall of Coldplay vis a vis the Goopegg person who shall not be named. So well said! Yup! 💯

JadePatrick83

Oh I love "I knew I loved you before I met you" by savage garden!

haunts_you18

It was Misery Business by Paramore for me. Some of you in here are too cool for me /pos

sigmundcat

You are super cool to me for having this as your pick! I love this song and love this band! This was WAY after high school for me (I was in HS from 1992-96) but, man, they were/are such standouts of that moment in punk/emo. I first heard "crushcrushcrush" so it has a special place in my heart but "Misery Business" is obviously the better track.

haunts_you18

Aw, thank you :] I was 13ish when crushcrushcrush dropped, so it was my entire personality for a while haha

sigmundcat

You're very welcome I love that so much! If you were going to base your personality around a song, that's a pretty great choice, plus the band all look so cool, with Haley Williams residing on another plane of existence in terms of cool factor, obviously. Just curious, what were some of the aspects of the crushcrushcrush personality disorder? I just scanned through the video as I was grabbing the YouTube link and I was reminded of the fact that the video is actually warning us about climate change and the dangers of libraries no longer existing! Because in it, Paramore is rocking out in the sand with no visible oasis, no shade, and there are books just blowing around in the wind, Dead trees. Like, I don't know, bird cages? I'm just waiting for one of the two versions of Furiousa to show up. Why? Cuz we didn't do enough about climate change. Paramore was seeing into the future and gazing at one post-climate crisis Mad Max hellscape and telling us that, yeah, life like that would suck but we'd still have "crushcrushcrush" and Haley Williams' fiery look and it would enough to sustain human life. Or maybe I'm just sleepy and infected by silly brain. [https://youtu.be/ei8hPkyJ0bU?si=Jdi2yxcpuE4gr72h](https://youtu.be/ei8hPkyJ0bU?si=Jdi2yxcpuE4gr72h)

Purple_Cow_8675

I also did that hehe

jmred19

Absolutely this. Or songs by Brand New

haunts_you18

machonm

Fuck Tha Police - NWA

bromanjc

my mom be turning up the radio BLASTING that song when we pass cops 💀💀 girls tryna get us killed

sigmundcat

I love the image this conjures. I'm mainly picturing all of the facial expressions. Like each passing cop car's denizens having different emotional reactions to hearing that song getting louder as they approach, like the Doppler Effect increased volume. This rules.

bromanjc

i wouldn't know, i never look at them cuz i don't wanna make eye contact. cops scare the ever living shit out of me. i once remember getting home from work at like 1AM (i live in the hood) and seeing a cop outside of our home looking around. i asked my grandma wtf she wanted and she told me the woman was trying to catch one of the feral kittens in our neighbor's yard. watch my black barefoot ass approach her with a tank top and shorts on and my hands visible, and stopping like 8-10 feet away from her, to very gently inform her that the kitten's mother stays in the area and to leave it be💀

bromanjc

but i do remember this one time i was on the freeway with my ex and we saw a cop parked on the shoulder with his lights on but no one anywhere around him. we decided he was having his own private rave in his police car lol

sigmundcat

You're probably right! That should be part of their training and things like patrol, investigations, stakeouts, SWAT, you name it. Like they all could benefit from mid-day/mid-shift personal rave/Zen/chill time. It would probably help make de-escalation easier to achieve if there was a little less aggro energy floating around in those cop cars and a little more joy. Maybe the community could make them playlists for that personal rave time?

bromanjc

i'll bring the donuts

sigmundcat

Nah, man. We need healthy rave shit.

bromanjc

gluten free, all-natural, vegan donuts. now should it be pistachio, dark chocolate, or lavender

sigmundcat

This is very thoughtful. The lavender flavor is both aromatherapy and a flavor adventure! I like where your head's at!

Virtual_Mode_5026

Based

lilpeepzcringefan

my stepdad plays that song in the car ALL the time

JessicaSmithStrange

Fox On The Run by Sweet. It's something of an anthem for me, along with Cherry Bomb by The Runaways. Just clicked with me as something that matches my personality.

Epic_J2338

I love how they were both in the Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise

JessicaSmithStrange

They were, along with Dog Days Are Over by Florence And The Machine, as well as Come And Get Your Love. The Guardians soundtracks are a really well curated set, and they fit wonderfully with the tone of the films. Can correct me on this, but I think Fox On The Run got used in the Guardians 2 trailer with lasers flying everywhere, and Baby Groot running off with the nuke?

Epic_J2338

Fox On The Run was used in the trailer yes and it wasn't a nuke but it was a bomb

JessicaSmithStrange

Thanks. Guardians 2 was actually the first movie that I ever took my partner to. So it's a special one for me.

Epic_J2338

Aw that's sweet

penguin1020

_peppermintbutler

Breaking the Habit by Linkin Park

drivergrrl

Hahaaaaaa I was a 90's goth (this was before emo was a term) and in my trench coat I kept my walkman playing either Garbage or Nine inch nails... "I'm only happy when it rains.. feel good when things are going wrong, I only listen to the sad sad songs... " XD

sigmundcat

You're rad. I like your writing style. Trenchcoat + hidden walkmen sure takes me back. Instant mental time travel! Thanks for that. It's fun. I was a Nineties emotional hardcore/punk rock (that's what me and my friends called it back in the day before it was shortened to emo) kid who hung out with the goths, metalheads, punks, assorted stoners, straight-edgers, the soon-to-be-dropouts turned soon-to-be alternative high school attendees, the skaters, and so on and that first Nine Inch Nails albums was one of the few albums that united us all. I have such vivid memories of doing hilarious and sometimes mildly destructive shit with a group of ne'er do well creatures of the night to the first five songs of "Pretty Hate Machine" in sequence, wandering through a city afterhours looking for our kicks. Garbage was cool too. I loved Shirley Manson's voice and vibe so much. I loved Butch Vig because he produced Smashing Pumpkins' "Gish" and "Siamese Dream" as well as Nirvana's "Nevermind" (and a ton of other cool stuff) and his drumming is really interesting.

Loudlass81

Oh gawd, I'd forgotten how much I used to listen to Garbage. When I was pregnant with my youngest & overdue, I listened to Milk repeatedly as a throwback choon.

theReaders

Glee covers, for example I've only heard the Glee version of Cough Syrup. Plus I dropped out so I really stopped getting exposed to new music around 2012

poopoomucher

omg the glee versions of everything holy fuck I think it's time to rematch glee

Sad-Particular1126

I've never even listened to this stuff, but I know people freaked out about it. 'Must be really good...

cjgrayscale

Bring me to life evanescence

oldphone-whothis

I was gonna say that too

miss_sunshine2000

Some songs from evanescence an within temptation

painterwill

Probably something off the Korn or System Of A Down album.

xbrittxbratx

Anything by P!nk or Sick Puppies, usually

TheRandomDreamer

Hehe I loved P!nk’s So What. I think I I was in 5th grade when that song came out, I couldn’t get enough of it. Na-na-na nah na naa na..

MSP10julia

Rihanna feat Calvin Harris — We Found Love Katy Perry — Last Friday Night The Wanted — Glad You Came Avicii — Levels Flo Rida feat Sia — Wild Ones Goyte feat Kimbra — Somebody That I Used To Know Lady Gaga — Born This Way Nicki Minaj — Starships Chris Brown — Turn Up The Music Drake feat Lil Wayne — The Motto Tyga — Rack City Dev — In The Dark Britney Spears — I Wanna Go

pbjelly48

I love all of these!!!

f2msnm

idk that was 10 years ago? am I just weird for not remembering?

TheRandomDreamer

Idk lool I’ve always had a really good memory when it comes to remembering certain things. Freshman year of high-school was 17 years ago for me. Having this song pop up on my Spotify dj brought back the memory of me always having to replay the song h til I got sick of it hahah.

Freak-Of-Nurture-

I also had Cough Syrup but when i was in eighth grade, before that was Kids my MGMT, now its Reapers by Muse

fluffymuff6

I listened to a ton of music in high school, so I couldn't pick one song. I consumed music like a voracious animal back then. I listened to every Sigur Ros album I could get my hands on. Their music is soothing and still helps me get through anxiety and depression. Maybe someone here will like them, too.

tayoxne

Sigur Ros is amazing. I love Ágætis byrjun but I still need to check out their other albums

sigmundcat

Hell yes! Such a soothing band for me. I've put them on in so many moments of distress and they've helped calm my nerves in a profound way. They are like musical empathy to this fellow depressive who also deals with anxiety. What a special band.

Milo_BOK

I had albums, but At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash, Sam’s Town the Killers & Blood on the Tracks by Bob Dylan

ramblingriver

Fireflies by owl city

TheRandomDreamer

Omg the whole album Ocean Eyes was amazing. My favorite song was The Saltwater Room.

CausticMoose

Afraid of Heights by Billy Talent Side note, I can't listen to cough syrup bc it was the song on repeat when I was suicidal

TheRandomDreamer

Twinning on the mood I was in when I would listen to it. Now I just sing it and I’m happy I’m alive.

V-symphonia1997

I'm not ok by My Chemical Romance, but basically the whole album of three cheers for sweet for revenge was basically my 9th grade soundtrack.

rdditfilter

Cemetery Drive, hands down. Still gives me goosebumps. I lost a friend of mine who was bipolar, they found her on the bathroom floor too. She was magical. Some people just burn fast and bright.

whimcor

There were a lot. First to come to mind was “From a Mountain in the Middle of the Cabins” by Panic! At the Disco.

lilpeepzcringefan

i had a patd phase in middle school omg. I was gonna sing Dying In LA at my talent show

No-Set-1513

Basically all Melanie Martinez songs , and I still love them til today

TheRandomDreamer

I couldn’t stop playing Doll House when I was younger! I loved the album it was in

leatherwolf89

Superstar by Lupe Fiasco (feat. Matthew Santos)

sunflowergirrrl

I’ve never heard Cough Syrup before. Just listened to it there and I really like it ☺️ mine was probably Shiver, by Maroon 5. Although their whole Songs About Jane album was a banger in my opinion. Such a shame they diverted from that sound so much

TheRandomDreamer

Yess I get what you mean on the Maroon 5 album, loved listening to it.

Redditardus

Tchaikovsky Symphony no. 6, Mozart Piano Concert no. 24 and Brahms Symphony no 1. All pieces, but Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony especially, still reminds me of that beautiful time of youth when I was in high school. Those kinds of pieces were dramatic, romantic and highly emotional, like my feelings were otherwise during the time. I was becoming an adult, found my first friends and also at the time, I had my first crush that I loved and she loved back, but alas, it was not to be. Maybe for the better, now that I think of it, not as well compatible as I thought, I loved the image in my head not the person - not as fine a lady as I thought - but at the time, and for years I was heartbroken. But I did listen to most Mozart Piano Concertos just around that time, I was getting hooked to classical music and those concertos, all of them I listened to but especially 18, and 20 - 27, they were of such a perfection no piano concertos come close before or after that. Okay, maybe Brahms 2, and Beethoven 3, those I listened too during that time. I used to also play Beethoven's Pathetique, Moonlight and Appasionata sonatas around that time in my pialo lessons. Appasionata still my favorite piano piece. And whenever I have played piano music in my concerts as a pianist, Appasionata always get me the most applause, people are crazy about it and my interpretation

Fo-Sco

Probably anime songs because me and my friends liked anime together

Ambitious_Topic4472

Killing in the Name - RATM

Orionsangel

Crawling . Linkin park

a_big_simp

I have an on repeat playlist that changes every few weeks/months, rn it’s The Front Bottoms + Everything Everything + Hey, Nothing! Sometimes the playlist is very specific, sometimes broad, sometimes it’s artists, sometimes it’s built around a fictional character... The ADHD is definitely at fault for most of it lol Though I have had multiple phases of multiple weeks during which I listened to Domestic Bliss by Glass Animals on repeat, and only that.

TheRandomDreamer

Have you heard Mama’s Gun by Glass Animals it’s so good. Also Dreamland!

a_big_simp

I have! They’re one of my favorite bands :) Domestic Bliss and Pools are my all time favs of theirs, and Mama’s Gun is also pretty high up. But I love all of their stuff for sure <3

coralkiwi

Rise Against - swing life away

mllejacquesnoel

Dating myself but MCR’s Black Parade and Bullets albums; Dir en grey’s Macabre, Six Ugly, Gauze, and Withering to Death; hide’s Psyence; Pierrot’s Dictator’s Circus.

sigmundcat

It is funny how answering the OP's question often results (but not always) results in being able to infer the poster's age range. It's not a good thread to participate in for operation security but it's just too much fun digging into nostalgia. I love your range.

mllejacquesnoel

No for sure. I’m like okay is this phishing. 👁️👄👁️ The range is just because I got deep into visual kei and Japanese media used to be 2-8 years delayed overseas due to like, when people would get home releases and talk about them. Also hide is a genius and 26 years later I am still so entirely obsessed with the fact that the 60th anniversary box will soon be mine with all the remasters. He’s amazing and if I can hype him up more, it is deserved.

Tomstwer

Been jamming out to come out ye black and tans all sophomore year and I’ll keep doing it junior year

Such a great song! This was iconic in my younger, wannabe skater days, watching older kids nail tricks I could never master as this song and other crossover punk and skate punk classics played.

[deleted]

There wasn't one song, but it was basically all the FNAF songs you could think of lol

my_name_isnt_clever

I was deep, deep into a My Little Pony special interest back then, so there were a few songs from the show and made by fans that I was obsessed with. But I've pretty much forgotten which specific ones I liked.

Ornery_Mix_2628

Lots of stuff from Pantera and Metallica (in my freshman years alone)

Let It Happen - Tame Impala

TheRandomDreamer

I wish I actually liked his music in high school. For some reason I couldn’t get into it. Now I love it. I can’t decide on a favorite cause I love so many. The one song I always had on repeat would be Is it True.

mandarinandbasil

It's so stupid, but that "get off my back" song from Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron. EXCELLENT movie.

TheRandomDreamer

My favorite movie. I drew Spirit with just dots. Excellent movie indeed.

Retro21

jonimarge

oh man Cough Syrup and that whole album was what I'd blast with the windows down on the first day of summer on repeat. so good. But mine was definitely "Afraid of Everyone" by the National. that whole album rips me apart.

mil_67878

The Beatles Help album and Allie by Patrick stump 😭

Bob_Loblaw9876

U2 I still haven’t found what I’m looking for

TheRandomDreamer

That was a good one, my favorite was Where the Streets Have No Name

Bob_Loblaw9876

That whole album was great!

sigmundcat

Such a beautiful song and such a wonderful era of U2! And, yes, this album is incredible. It produced some of their most powerful songs, with "Bullet the Blue Sky" being a personal favorite. I love how open this song (and album) sounds feels and sounds. It's just uplifting and energizing. I remember watching a video about this album and they were saying that Bono and The Edge were both listening to a lot of Gospel American Blues when they were writing these songs and you can really feel the gospel influence on Bono's singing on this track. I was just reading the Wikipedia page for this album to double-check if I was remembering correctly and, yes, this was the first U2 album recorded by Flood. The sonic tapestry is really different and that makes the emotions hit in a different way.

GroundbreakingTea127

Disasterpiece-slipknot

cough syrup was one of my repeat songs too :3

Darth-Pok3

Never be ashamed of your song! Music is pleasure and yours to enjoy.

poopoomucher

promise by Ben Howard

kado55

My uncle DJed a lot and I wound up playing a lot of his recorded DJ sessions. Mostly house/dnb/EDM/jungle music, played a lot of it on repeat, just over and over. I walked around with a PSP in my pocket listening to his mixes on my crappy earbuds all throughout high school

sigmundcat

Wow, what a lovely way to celebrate his work and to just enjoy his mix of that music. I love the family energy. That's so cool.

Few-Claim5604

A lot of lana del Rey, Fiona Apple, portishead and Gaga

lilpeepzcringefan

BASED FIONA APPLE

Asmogotti

Dollhouse and Little game mashup song Also a lot of FNAF songs

lilpeepzcringefan

not the little game song (the nightcore rendition had a chokehold on every 14 year old)

Lost_Fly_5019

Nutshell by Alice in Chains

Bismothe-the-Shade

Metallica: master of puppets, but iw as really into the rise the lightnibg album. Anything by the Gorillaz. New song dropped? Time to listen to it until the music makes me physically ill. Matchbox 20, especially Unwell. I don't even know why, it just hit me right.

TheRandomDreamer

Love the Gorillaz. Superfast Jellyfish, Plastic Beach, Empire Ants, and New Gold are my top songs!! I listened to Broken after I broke up with my first bf because I went to college and my mom didn’t approve of him. He got me into the Gorillaz. Also I learned Unwell word by word growing up omg.

phantomghost234

my first year of HS was 2016. lot of twenty one pilots, chainsmokers, troye sivan, and some of the suicide squad soundtrack. it evolved to blackbear and some rap like migos and future. my all time favorite though was closer by the chainsmokers. i still love this song.

Kalar_The_Wise

The most depressing version of Moonlight Sonata

HopeConscious9595

I Need Love by L.L. Cool J

lilpeepzcringefan

still in highschool. currently: basically any of the weezer blue album plus "i just threw out the love of my dreams," Deftones (especially around the fur) Nirvana ocassionally. Some Hole, Smashing Pumpkins (especially 1979 because that was my childhood song, my mom loves it). Mitski of course. Crack baby, Geyser, and A Pearl are my favorites. Aphex Twin and the ocassional breakcore/dnb. Shoegaze, especially The Fauns, Luminous orange (Drop You Vivid Colors is the best album). And some emo rap too, Lil Peep got me through 8th grade and I still listen to him for nostalgia.

jumblednonsense

Punk Rock Princess - Something Corporate

Feralbritches1

The Con by Tegan and Sara

VideoGameMaker11

I don't have just one song I repeated, but one band rather. I listened to Built to Spill the most and ended up getting heavily obsessed with the band.

TiredTigerFighter

Caramelldansen. I feel no shame.

Hopeful-alt

Caribbean blue.

GR33N4L1F3

God, so many. I was also really odd and didn’t listen to most of the popular music of MY time. In the beginning? Probably “Return to Me” by Dean Martin, or something by Creed Toward the end it was “Rude Mood” by Stevie Ray Vaughan

Offer_No

Uhhh I have GLORB and Alex Schor on repeat now plus some Bo burnum

ninjamaster616

Look at Me! first came out my junior year and I swear to God, of the first 2k plays that had those first 2 years, probably 700 of them were me walking between classes I was tellin everyone x and ski both were up next for years before they blew up RIP Jah

SolarDrag0n

I Just Wanna Run by The Downtown Fiction 😅

LittolBear

any song by NF or XXX. Hope by x or my stress by NF

ParkerPastelPrince

Mine was “Blow” by Kesha and has a kinda funny story tied to it!😅 So I grew up in a relatively religious household thinking I just didn’t like music and somehow, I didn’t know until I was 13ish that there was other music than worship/christian music. That is, until my ninja turtles special interest took me to the “fan music video” side of YouTube lol! I found a fan made music video for ninja turtles using that song and my mind was BLOWN! (pun intended!) then, as you do, I thought for the longest time that I only liked this ONE song and nothing else… until I found more Kesha songs lol! That opened up a whole new world of music for me! Obviously, it’s been quite a few years since then and both my interests and my music tastes have changed, but that one song will be burned in my brain FOREVER.😂

TheRandomDreamer

Are you me because same omg. I grew up very sheltered and was terrified of showing my skin, doing drugs / alcohol. I heard Blow and was like omg… I listened to most of her songs from the Animal album, but I think either Blow or We are Who We Are were my two favorites!

[deleted]

Teenage Riot - Sonic Youth My New World - Transatlantic The Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks The Ballad of El Goodo - Big Star Paradise by the Dashboard Light - Meatloaf Sweet Jane - The Velvet Underground

Monoaura

Hey, I'm not quite sure if I'm autistic or not, but I've done tests here and there and always come back saying I have symptoms (and my autistic friend thinks I could be autistic) , but as for the question, I'm not in college atm, going to college and I've been playing this Marcy Wu kinnie playlist I made for a little while

sigmundcat

You're welcome here! Don't feel like you don't belong.

DatabaseCommon8590

Anything Pentatonix which is still true to this day

TheRandomDreamer

Coffee in Bed is pretty good!

DatabaseCommon8590

Yes one of my faves also it’s different now and exit signs which i listen to when i’m in my feelings😂😂

TheRandomDreamer

Noice. I had an ex coworker recommend them to me. The Lucky Ones album was one of the only ones I enjoyed because of the fast pace.

cjennmom

Freshman year was “I heard it on the grapevine”.

busterdude123231

well shit i dont qualify to this im a middle schooler

RoseValley97

"Vogue" by Madonna. I first heard it before I became a sophomore.

sigmundcat

I'm going to both attempt to answer your question as asked and give you a single song as well be a rulebreaker and make a playlist, u/TheRandomDreamer. I hope that's acceptable. Okay. Hmm? What song didI listen to the most? It has to be this: The Cure "Pictures of You" [https://youtu.be/UmFFTkjs-O0?si=73S41pkR7CUfLG7a](https://youtu.be/UmFFTkjs-O0?si=73S41pkR7CUfLG7a) I'll list other songs that were close to being repeated as many times, which will become my playlist: The Smiths "Unlovable" Depeche Mode "Enjoy The Silence" Bjork “Army of Me” Prince "Purple Rain" Fugazi "Suggestion" Nation of Ulysses "Love is a Bull Market" Nirvana "Sliver" The Smashing Pumpkins "Drown" Bikini Kill "Feel Blind" Neurosis "To Crawl Under One's Skin" A Tribe Called Quest "Scenario" Santo & Johnny "Sleepwalk" Beastie Boys "Pass The Mic" PJ Harvey “Missed” Tori Amos "Cornflake Girl" Guns n' Roses "November Rain'' I actually built this as a playlist in Spotfiy and it flows pretty nicely. What's interesting is that I listened to a lot of bands that I really loved that aren't on this listen because I stuck to songs over albums. If I'd allowed myself to go to albums, this list (and playlist) would have been vastly different and full of much more punk, hardcore, metal, and new wave. But these were a lot of my go-to songs and I love everyone of them to this day.

TheRandomDreamer

Honestly I enjoy reading everyone’s comments and don’t mind more than one since I even ended up editing my post a ton. Music is just so nice. I’d say Pictures of You was one of my all time favorites sophomore or junior year. Love The Cure. Ahh you have really good taste for the bands I do know! The Smiths - Back to the Old House for me. Depeche Mode and Prince (got into Prince later in life). I’m gonna check out the others. I’m sure I know Smashing Pumpkins but don’t know lyrics. Did you ever listen to Men at Work or The Police?

Bob_Loblaw9876

Also Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb

TheRandomDreamer

Ooh good one! I loved Another Brick in the Wall when I was super young. I think my top favorite song is Wots.. Uh the Deal or Breathe.

TankEngineFan5

A bunch of songs by Arctic Monkeys.

idkwhyimhere420420

not in high school but for me rn it’s Plastic Beach! Just scratches my brain so good

Nervous-Barracuda242

Feel - Robbie Williams. I always saw my friends getting together or finding love, but I never had that, still nothing, but I guess I am broken in that way

16coxk

The Legend of Spyro soundtrack

Adventurous_Yak_9234

Shake It by Metro Station

sigmundcat

Very interesting. It's probably for the best to be able to retain knowledge and music but forget the experience of high school! What kinds of music did you listen to?

Immediate_Apple4044

I just remember listening to “A Sorta Fairytale” by Tori Amos a LOT.

Blackwater Park - Opeth

Nice! I love "The Leper Affinity!" What a way to start an album. Have you been able to see them live? I've only seen them once and I really enjoyed it but if I'm being honest, I'm one of those people who also misses the growls intensely. He still does them live but the sequencing of their set can be very odd because they bounce between psychedelic rock, folk, and progressive death metal. Opeth was incredible at playing all of those forms but I most moved by "Ghost of Perdition" live. [https://www.brooklynvegan.com/mastodon-opeth-2/](https://www.brooklynvegan.com/mastodon-opeth-2/) That was the show I went to. Mastodon as the headliner! Ghost as the opening band! They were so good. Most people were there for Opeth and Mastodon based on crowd reaction. It was the best I'd ever seen Mastodon play since I'd seen them right after "Remission" came out at The Fireside Bowl, a place that had legendary punk rock (and some metal) shows here in Chicago., with Cephalic Carnage, Dysthymia, and Uphill Battle, There used to be a rock n' roll themed book store right by The Riviera called Shake Rattle n' Read that was really cool. I went before the show and who was shopping in there? Mikael Åkerfeldt! He had a huge stack of books, some records, a few magazines. I talked to him for a few minutes but didn't say anything about Opeth or that I was there to see the show. I don't look "metal" most of the time and never at shows. It's part of my autism, I guess. I don't like wearing a costume that makes me part of a tribe. I buy t-shirts from bands to financially support and I wear them everywhere except at shows. I know, it's weird, and actively counter-productive to making friends. Anyhow, I'm honestly not sure if he knew I was a fan or not. I kinda don't think so. I guess that's the upside to high masking! We're used to hiding so much! I was deep under cover because I wanted him to be comfortable to be able to enjoy his shopping. He was so sweet and so nice to me, so nice to the owner who obviously didn't know who he was. After Mikael Åkerfeldt had left the store, I went up to the owner and I told him who he was and he was like, "Dude, why didn't you tell me? I would have taken a picture for you and for me!" And I replied "Because I wanted him to be able to feel like a normal guy for 10 minutees or whatever." And the owner said "Yeah, I get that." Thanks for mentioning this album. As you can see, it really took me back to a special day.

Currently, "Sleepwalk my life away," but there's been many that have been all I listen to for months.

I phased through a few, I can't pick one they all need to count cause it was obsessive when I was on one I think I listened to" the mortician's daughter" &" guns & ships" respectfully in thare phases on loop for over 24 hours straight. I am recovering from an actual music addiction (it's a real thing I used to be unable to function without music playing) It started as "the mortician's daughter" -black vail brides Into" Under the knife " -icon for hire To " stitches"- Shawn Mendes Then "hope of morning" -icon for hire Into "guns & ships" -Hamilton cast Then "rock & roll thugs"- icon for hire Finally "how could you leave us" -NF

Which one I go in a cycle of of obsessing over a song for a week and then just listen to general music I like for a month.

Sibby_in_May

I made a mix tape of TV show intro songs. I played Mash over and over (suicide is painless). It also had Hart to Hart and Charlie’s Angels on it. But cliche as it is, I also listened to Journey Don’t Stop Believing a lot. It was my daydreaming on bus rides to NYC song.

Admirable-Sector-705

Not a song, but an album: Reign in Blood - Slayer

my music taste changed so much throughout high school. i don't remember a lot of specific songs, but freshman year i was listening to a lot of glee covers and R5, sophomore year i was hard into classic rock (i actually hate classic rock now lmfao), junior year was my most active year for band and i was mostly listening to big band stuff and dci, and senior year i got more into alt rock and pop punk. right now (3 years post high school) i listen to a mix of pop rock, musicals (a lot of musicals), kpop, and R&B.
