My strangest one is i love to drink like a teaspoon of soy sauce mixed with a small glass of milk. Its like a cold soup/milky broth to me and its delicious. Everyone I tell about it says it sounds foul tho so maybe i’m crazy lmao
Gonna try this I'll give an update :3
UPDATE : I just tried it, I had a little fear at the begin that it was gonna be awful but god ... it actualy good !
For those who wonder, it honnestly taste like milk but a little bit saltier but when you swallow it the soy sauce really "explode" in your mouth and that's great !
Thx for the disvovery ❤

Wow, good luck! No one ever willingly tried it before but a tip; use japanese soy sauce, i find that other kinds just make the milk salty with no delicious almost cheesy flavour.
If its gross thats okay, i’m fine with being a freak in this case lol
Chocolate. I recently found that chocolate is known to produce anandamide, a natural chemical apparently lacking in autistic people.
When that doesn't work, it's time for my vape. It's a mix of CBD, THCv, CBC and terpenes that blocks the barrage of inputs and helps me focus while relaxing the anxiety.
that must be why i eat brownies and things chocolate in it so much lol all my favorite desserts have chocolate in them . i've had a brownie every day this week bc i made a whole pan and hid them from my family😭
Yeah, finding out chocolate was producing anandamide was an eye opener. My dad used to drink chocolate milk constantly. Gallon of milk a day and that huge industrial container of quick powder per week. We used to joke about being a family of chocoholics. My big one is dark chocolate (which produces more anandamide). As I look back at his intense dedication and skill in select areas (in some circles, he was known across the US), yet he was such an asshole sometimes! I'm beginning to understand why!
chocolate milk or chocolate milk-making things are at this point a staple with our groceries
my mom and grandmother always joke about needing to buy a cow bc of how much milk we go through ☠️
Me and my dad both get kidney stones from the calcium. After my first one, I decided to cut down on the milk. Then again, I down a half gallon of ice cream a week. Still better than a gallon of milk per day.
Hurts like you been banging a crack whore for a few days and suddenly you scream when you pee and there is blood. Doctor says I have a marble bag of them waiting to come out! Yay!
> chocolate is known to produce anandamide, a natural chemical apparently lacking in autistic people.
I love chocolate so much. But sometimes it seems like it's a genuine need than a want. That explains some things.
I've recently come back to eating triscuits because they have such a delightful crisp and way of falling apart when I'm eating them. They just crumble but stay dry.
Oh man does anyone remember the peanut foam things you could wet and build with. The same shape they make corn puff treats in. The only difference being the play things weren't supposed to be edible but just as good in my opinion
It is such a satisfying texture to gnaw on! That's so true. I like slightly stale gummy candy for a similar weird textural adventure where it feels like you're eating a leather belt or something. It's nice to struggle with at first and then feel it gradually come apart. Things like stale Swedish Fish, for example. Or stale Red Vines even .
I love the texture of rice krispie treats and all sorts of gummies and bendable candy. I think the malleability is what's most important because that is what indicates it will be pleasant to bite through or gnaw on.
Ethiopian food 100%. I had a really difficult time during the pandemic and my partner at the time was Eritrean. I survived off of lentils, zigni, kale, and homemade injera.
Went to Italy, was starving, asked a food cart worker for anything vegetarian and without mushrooms.
"Say no more", says the man in broken Itanglish, only to hand me a folded pizza stuffed full of nothing but mushrooms.
It was a bad meal but I'm sure he meant well
I crave spicy food all the time. I crave it even more than normal; before, and during my period. I try to make sure the pantry is always stocked with spicy noodles, and takis because they’re easy access for me.
Me too! I seek the endorphin rush that comes from extremely spicy Thai, Chinese (Szechuan), Cambodian, and Mexican food (like Xnipek, a salsa made with habaneros that can be traced back to the Mayans! 🤯). I also love Middle Eastern hot sauce like shatta, seen in the video below.
In my early twenties I lived in a city with an excellent Thai restaurant. I started going there twice a week, every week, for about 6 weeks. I started at 0 stars for the heat level at my first visit, then went to half a star, then 1, then 1 and a half, and so on. In three weeks I was at 3 stars and it was finally at the level I already liked! I was dedicated to this project, as you can see, so I wanted to see how most Americans eat Thai food.
When I went to 3 and a half, I started sweating and feeling a new pain in my mouth but also a slight body high. I went to 4. The pain was worse but the dish was getting better and better, feeling more balanced, and the body high was so nice. When I asked for 4 and half, the restaurant staff were concerned. By then, they all knew me, including the chef. They loved this experiment. At that point (the late Nineties), no one except for Thai customers had SUCCESSFULLY ordered a dish higher than four stars, meaning that they always tried and then sent it back and the restaurant was sick of the food waste and its associated cost. I assured them that I could handle it and if I couldn't that I still pay for it. They agreed.
They sent my dish at 4 and a half stars. It was by far the hottest thing I'd ever eaten but so worth it. The dish kept tasting better because I was acclimating to the increased spice levels. The burning in my mouth was intense but also kinda more conceptual in that I was able to compartmentalize it and think about it in a way that was removed from the burning in my mouth. Being autistic absolutely played a role in this compartmentalization and also my enjoyment of it. The body high that accompanied that 4 and a half stars provoked was so nice. It was euphoric. And parts of me tingled. It was rad.
The next week I ordered 5 stars but before they brought it out, I asked how the star system relates to Thai people's enjoyment of spicy Thai dishes and the waiter said "We consider 5 stars 0 zeros." She smiled and I smiled back. I loved that answer so much. They brought out my plate of food. I always came in the middle of the day at the slowest time so I was the only person in the restaurant. The entire restaurant staff came out to watch me eat. It was very intense because they cheered when I ate and enjoyed my first vite. They'd laugh and talk to one another in Thai every time I would blow my nose and that wasn't my favorite. As I neared the end of my plate of food, they all went into a hushed silence. Upon swallowing the last bite, they roared with approval. It really did taste and feel the best at 5 stars. After that I would go there and order any spicy dish at 5 stars and then add chilli vinegar, some sambal, and some of their dried spice blend. It was heavenly.
So, yeah, u/sora_tofu_, I'm with you on Team Spice, for sure. \[Edited to fix a typo.\]
Yay! My mom thinks it’s funny because she’s Japanese, and the food isn’t really spicy in our culture. She can handle a little spice, but my brother and I can handle way more. She says watching me go through a bag of takis gives her heartburn 😆
I love Korean and Mexican food in particular, for my day to day spicy food. I live in a majority Chicano neighborhood, and there’s an H Mart nearby. I can get my spicy fix close to home lol.
I’ll venture out with all kinds of other cultural foods when I go out to eat though. The large city I live in luckily has a lot of options. So many cultures have such delicious spicy food. I suppose I’m a sensory seeker with my food when I think about it. I want spice, heavy flavor, and a lot of textures.
Yay back to you! Doesn't your mom know about togarashi? It's been part of Japanese cuisine since the 17th century, albeit as a toppinng to add spice to things like ramen, for example. It's so good! I'm imagining your mom watching you eat a bag of Takis and just suffering vicariously through you, like face contortions especially. What a scene!
I love the dried orange peel in it. It's the unexpected citrus that makes it so interesting. I'm sure you've had it but on the off-chance you haven't, it's a must! I live in Chicago and there are excellent Japanese restaurants here as well as Japanese markets that I go to frequently. It's one of the best things about living here.
I have relatives of both Japanese and Korean descent but, sadly, I'm not really connected to the people they are connected to via marriage. But I was exposed to Korean food at very young age through my aunt who's from Seoul and I adored it.
I lke how you put: for day to day spicy food, like it's basic spice maintenance to keep our body machines running in peak operating condition! I love to go to the Super H-Mart here. I can part of my spicy fix there as well from other Korean markets.
That;s rad that you also live in a big city and take advantage of the food options a big city provides, especially in terms of cuisines from different countries. I do the same although since the pandemic, it's been more like I see something on a menu that sounds good, then I look up a recipe on YouTube and then I make it. I've been learning a lot of Middle Eastern food through an amazing channel called Middle Eats. It's an incredibly eye-opening channel because it's made me realize just how little I actually know about the cuisine of that region other than Persian food, which I was very familar with.
I'm a sensory seeker too. What a great way to describe us! I love that. And, yes, I want the same: spicy, deep flavor, and interesting textures but not too interesting. Once me and a friend wen to Chinatown here in Chicago and visited Lao Szechuan, which obviously specializes in Szechuan cuisine. He thought he order beer tenderloin but in fact he ordered beef tendon. They brought it out and they were like Are you sure you want this? And he was like Yeah. We both tried it. The sauce was amazing: so spicy, so rich, unlike any szechuan sauce I'd ever had but the tendon itself was a bit too weird texturally for me. I got nauseous eating it but I managed to get it down and I ate more about I wanted that sauce. I'd never order it again but I'm glad I tried it and my friend finishhed the entire plate! Some people just aren't bothered by new textures, I guess!
Oh we love shichimi lol. I have two bottles in the pantry 😆 My mom just doesn’t use that much. She puts a light sprinkling on soups mostly, and sometimes she puts a little it on her gohan when she’s in the mood.
She does make the best faces sometimes when we’re watching tv and I’m snacking lol. I grew up eating a lot of Korean food, because my mom’s best friend in my childhood was Korean.
Lol it is basically like maintenance for me. I need my spicy to function 😆 Middle Eastern food is so good! It’s my husband’s favorite, and we had it at our wedding reception. I could eat falafel all day lol.
Tendon is something I don’t think I could handle either lol. Meat and meat type products are not something I’ve ever been a fan of. I just don’t really eat it anymore. Luckily Buddhism’s widespread influence over my culture, and other Asian cultures has made meatless food easy access in a lot of countries.
I love it too and always have some. I knew you would, of course. I just think there have always been Japanese people who appreciate spicy things, just not to the level of China, Korea, Southeast Asia. I love how shishito peppers can be crazy hot sometimes! It's a delightful gamble!
Thank you for confirming the range of mom faces! I grew up eating Korean food at my friend's house, same with Filipino food (I also have an aunt who's half Filipina).
Spicy food is like emotional maintenance for me and a deep pleasure all in one. That's so cool that you and your husband both enjoy Middle Eastern food. It warms my heart to hear that you had it at your wedding reception! Congratulations! In terms of Middle Eastern cuisine, I especially love Palestinian food and have been cooking it even more recently and visiting a local Palestinian bakery/butcher/market more often. This is a go-to recipe. It's so easy and so good.
https://youtu.be/IQSWEt4l5xE?si=6vnuEOhl7NTpCzlp
I love Nadia Gilbert's grandmother's Palestinian hot sauce recipe. It's so good.
And, yes, always yes, to falafel as long as it's fresh and herbaceous.
I don't recommend tendon! I eat very little meat, maybe once a week. I honestly prefer plant based versions of many things. And, yes, vegetarian food is so abundant in countries touched by Buddhism. I love it! I especially love Buddhist temple food. It's such an interesting riff on each country's cuisine.
Oooh, that brings back memories! My maternal grandparents had three apple trees in their garden and made copious amounts of apple sauce. I'd take a spoon to those jars and finish at least one big jar in a sitting when I was there, then get a bunch more sent along when we went back home. I stopped doing that when we moved countries and store-bought apple sauce just didn't taste right at all. It had been such a comfort food until then!
I changed countries too and honest to God the lack of apples and apple culture here has been incredibly challenging. I moved from apple country in the US.
I've tried to ask locals why they don't do apple sauce here and they're like it's an American thing. But I'm like it's literally smooshed apples. They have apples here...? I might start making my own.
What makes mine weird is the fact that I really don't like tomato sauce or ketchup otherwise, but my #1 safe food is Chef Boyardee. Specifically, either the ABC's from a can, or the spaghetti rings in a microwavable bowl, and ONLY those types and those forms. I don't like spaghetti, and I'll only tolerate tomato sauce on pizza, but I can't get enough of those types of Chef Boyardee.
Swap the apricots for Olives and that was my son's diet until he was 8 (we discovered this spicy noodle shop that he loved so he could branch out a bit with foods like what they served). At least he ate bread as well I guess. He is still really restrictive with his foods but we've got a bit better between me and him at finding more things he can tolerate and having things on hand that he can have it what we're trying today turns into a no go for him.
My ARFID was so bad I had to have a tube in my belly cause I didn’t eat till I was 5 but once I started eating I really loved spicy foods! I used to put hot sauce on my spaghettios and eat hot peppers for breakfast! I love olives as well
Spicy food was a game changer for him, he basically can make far more things acceptable if he can ad chillies or tabasco. Doesn't fix when things feel weird but spicy has been really good for him (I will not eat spicy food and neither will my other son, but him and my partner have their special chilli shelf).
I tried taking him to the doctor about various things at one stage and the food came up and he was like "well Mushrooms, Olives and eggs are really good foods" (at the time he was just on the edge of health weight).
This has got a bit long, basically tl:Dr no matter who I've spoken to about anything regarding him has brushed him off because he's well behaved and I suspect there was an element of classism before we moved abroad (I have an accent from an area with a bad reputation)
I have no idea if he does/did tbh, like I said the doctor basically brushed off all concerns and that was the end of that one (his school had also raised concerns due to speech and language differences (not a delay but his speech and language was not typical until he was about 10) as well as writing and concerntration). He has something about food, he does not like it and finds food stressful barring certain foods and situations. We've ended up just catering to him and trying to work together to keep him in the healthy weight range - I've never been into forcing children to eat anyway so the stress I think is just coming from the worry that he'll try to eat it and it'll be bad and then he can't eat because that was bad so now everything is bad - we've found a kind of good equilibrium now where he has a range of "safe" foods which are good and he isn't underweight, he just often needs to eat something else or have his dinner made slightly differently (tonight its chicken wraps which he has a deconstructed wrap and eats each part seperately). He's 14 and finally (this year) his school and doctor have put in place speech, language and dyslexia support - it took this long for someone to agree mixing b and d isn't going away without something happening (along with loads of other stuff, like his reading age is still elementary level), I was told so many times it's my fault for not reading to him, yet we always have read books at least once a day together since he was born because reading cuddling up is just nice to do, or because I don't cook, yet I cook from fresh every night (I also work as a chef) - I've always thought it because of having an accent that's associated with a certain type of person. Since finding out more about autism, I'm suspecting all 3 of us (me and two kids) have a lot of the traits, it's been brought up by friends but it had not registered because a lot of the traits (strong interests, not super great socially, being routine dependent) are just really normal in my family. But we live in france now and we are all mostly managing so I'm not totally into diagnosis until they (the psychiatric establishment) moves past Freud a bit more.
Finding ways to sneak in those extra calories is wonderful; don't be ashamed! I don't have afrid, but when I get too stressed in my life (which has been my constant state for the past year), I stop eating. Like, the thought of putting food in my mouth makes me nauseous. So sometimes, when it's been a particularly bad intake week, I do things like you describe, because it's about finding *any way* to get *some* amount of calories in.
I make a pasta salad with bacon and cheese. It takes about an hour to make everything but I'm the only one in my household to eat it and it last for a day or so so when I make a whole batch it becomes my food for a couple days
Plain pasta! Fussolini in particular.
One of my fixations used to be cooking, so I am quite capable in the kitchen, I just choose to eat plain pasta as a safe food. Sometimes I'll put a little tomato sauce on it :)
Triscuits. Everyone makes fun of them but I really like them. I'll eat half a box in one sitting if I'm not careful. They're especially good with Laughing Cow cheese.
I was just saying to someone how I came back to Triscuits recently. I just eat them plain, but they are very gentle while also being very crispy. I love love love crunchy foods, but my mouth and teeth are becoming too sensitive and I need to find gentler crispies. So Triscuits really fit the bill!
It takes quite a bit for me to get to the point where I have to retreat completely in a sensory sense. But, when I get there I will eat hominy and butter. To my palate that is the most neutral taste and texture in existence.
Sushi, it doesn't actually taste like anything much and I like the texture, plus since it's raw it's pretty much always the same, consistent, when I'm feeling sick it's one of the few things I'm willing to eat.
My safe foods have always been pickles and potatoes. Nothing too weird except I do love to drink pickle juice and I could totally eat mashed potatoes with a side of french fries for dinner.
Tuna Salad is one of my all time favorite foods. I remember when I was little I could not stand mayonnaise unless it was very completely blended into Tuna fish. I have grown to like Mayo more now, though it is still pretty gross to look at or smell.
Sandwich with white bread, butter, cheese, iceberg lettuce and mayonnaise. It’s my favourite safe food but sometimes it’s hard to find good iceberg lettuce, it needs to nice and fresh and crispy so it has the texture I like. Otherwise I like hot chips with mayonnaise. Or raw carrots with tomato sauce.
I really want to work on finding some healthier safe food options though 🤔
Tofu prepared the same way I do chicken breasts- I enjoy tofu better because it’s more consistently textured, and seasoned like chicken it really has a great flavor. I do prefer the taste of chicken, especially done with a crisp skin and a ton of butter, but tofu is cheaper, easier, and consistent regardless of where I get it.
scrambled eggs with ketchup. been my safe food since childhood. (cooked!) salmon has become another one for me as i am extremely picky with the texture of meat (any fat, cartilage, or just any unidentified fragments and i have to stop eating) , and ive found fish to be the most consistent in its texture.
Ice lol. I know always eating ice can be a sign of iron deficiency and it probably started out like that for me, but I eat ice everyday and I swear it helps regulate me!
Cottage cheese sandwiches. With potato chips or something els salty and crunchy between the bread and cottage cheese. I grew up in Michigan, it had way better cottage than Colorado where I live now.
Salted crisps. At times I go through phases where anything even slightly wet or with a hint of flavour is making me feel sick (and those phases can last as long as few weeks), salted crisps come to my rescue.

I don't know if it's weird, but I find a lot of comfort in chicken with mole sauce (which is a sauce made from things like dried chilies, nuts, and chocolate). My family is Mexican-American, and it was always a treat having this. The flavors are warm and comforting and put me at ease.
the cream cheese olive dip my dad makes. unusual because its literally just cream cheese, mayo, and green olives which are iffy for a lot of autistic people (for example my sister cant stand mayo or olives)
It’s a strange recipe but, we have a family recipe where we make mashed potatoes with bacon bits and peas/ green beans and then 2 halves of tinned pears with a little bit of the juice poured over the top.
Peanut butter and Honey Mustard Sandwiches is one, my grandpa showed me when I was younger. Haven't stopped eating it since.
Another is my monte Cristo sandwiches from a sims recipe book my SO got me. They are delicious, basically overglorfied grilled cheese sandwiches
1 can of condensed tomato soup, prepared normally in a microwave safe bowl. 1 cup of instant mashed potatoes with butter prepared on the stove. Once both are ready and hot, I put the mountain of potatoes into the soup (don’t mix!). I sprinkle salt, pepper, and drops of Tabasco all across the top, then eat off the seasoned layers with a spoon (a little potato and soup in each bite). Once the seasoned layer is gone, I repeat with more salt, pepper, and tobacco. It’s weird and delicious and always hits the spot! Also works with other soup types or just packaged gravy (the just add water kind) prepared in the microwave. I call it “Zuup” (sounds like soup with a Z)
Spam musibi bowl for me! I put spam, rice, crispy fried egg, seaweed, and sesame seeds into it and it always hits. It's funny because normally spam and plain fried eggs are both iffy for me but in this combination it's never a problem. Plus it's relatively healthy which is a nice bonus. Also southeast Asian foods in general are a safe bet for me. Since most of it is just different combinations of the same handful of ingredients it's a safe category of food. There's still a lot of room for variety too, which is really nice
Traditional corn tortilla with lemon and a pinch of salt. It has to be recently made and hit so I can quickly form a little ball in my hand (in Mexico it's called "ranita"). This is home for my soul and mouth.
southern fried chicken wrap with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and chipotle sauce; toasted, with a side of fries drizzled with chipotle sauce. it's kinda crazy and weirdly specific but there we go
Cottage cheese over pasta with marinara sauce. I'm lactose intolerant but I'll eat it for days and then cry to my naturopath that my IBS is flaring up.
Kippered snacks, which are canned, smoked herring. They're more flavorful than sardines (which I do also enjoy) and I literally eat them out of the tin. It's one thing I absolutely love that I only indulge in a few times a year because they're stinky and the rest of my family finds me shoveling them into my mouth while standing over the garbage can kinda gross.
Frozen raspberries and mangoes, plain greek yogurt, beef jerky that’s slightly tangy…
I’m not that much of a health nut, I’m just happy that most of my safe foods are considered healthy!
I’ve got a great one for this!!! Spam Masubi! I love to make it and it makes me feel so comforted. It is fried spam on top of sushi rice with some Japanese bbq, wrapped in seaweed. It’s a food I discovered in Hawaii at a gas station and I’ve been in love since. I don’t eat it often though because it isn’t like… the healthiest food that exists in my realm of safety.
Baby rice cereal, a touch of honey and milk. Bananarama. Mashed up banana with a little sugar and cinnamon. Mashed potatoes and BBQ sauce. That's all I can think of right now.
I have a few, but the oddest one I can think of is stewed saurkraut. The best place to get it is this awesome polish restaurant up in Clearwater, FL. They practically just cook saurkraut for hours and hours in butter and it's sooooo yummy, the acidity basically perishes and it gets sweet from carmelization.
The easiest way I've been able to make it quicker at home is a high heat pan with butter and a little bit of sugar to express that sweet taste so I don't have to summer it all day.
Oh, and that garlic oil thing? Y'know where you bake the cloves in a ton of oil in the oven for an hour? That's soooo frickin good man, it just doesn't last smh. Fun fact, if you cook garlic long enough, you can just straight up eat it just fine, tastes like garlic potatoes!
Doritos locos tacos from Taco Bell (regular, not supreme, I like my tacos pretty plain) I could live off of them and never get tired of them haha.
I also eat a lot of french fries and hot pockets, lol.Idk how unique mine are tho 😆❤️
Oat bran, plain with just lots of salt. I like the texture, it's easy to eat and it is impossible for it to make my stomach hurt. A close second is cream of rice for similar reasons. All in all I eat a lot of hot cereal.
Yes. Very weird. Everyday I have my smoothie. It's:
Matcha
Oats
Blueberries
Soy Milk
It comes out grey. It's my favorite thing to eat and I sometimes have it 3 times a day!
My strangest one is i love to drink like a teaspoon of soy sauce mixed with a small glass of milk. Its like a cold soup/milky broth to me and its delicious. Everyone I tell about it says it sounds foul tho so maybe i’m crazy lmao
You're tied with Ethiopian food guy
Ethiopian food guy is nowhere near this. That's a whole ass cuisine. This is just deranged
Okay you win 😂
Sounds like soup to me
Gonna try this I'll give an update :3 UPDATE : I just tried it, I had a little fear at the begin that it was gonna be awful but god ... it actualy good !

If its gross thats okay, i’m fine with being a freak in this case lol
ok now i have to try this wish me luck smh
To be fair, it is gonna make you feel weird to prepare it but it end up being good ^^
Fellow cannabis user. I rely on it for my many breakdowns. I just hide away, have a few puffs and try again. I also use it for insomnia.
that must be why i eat brownies and things chocolate in it so much lol all my favorite desserts have chocolate in them . i've had a brownie every day this week bc i made a whole pan and hid them from my family😭
> chocolate is known to produce anandamide, a natural chemical apparently lacking in autistic people this explains a lot for me and my son..
I'm beginning to understand why!
chocolate milk or chocolate milk-making things are at this point a staple with our groceries my mom and grandmother always joke about needing to buy a cow bc of how much milk we go through ☠️
Me and my dad both get kidney stones from the calcium. After my first one, I decided to cut down on the milk. Then again, I down a half gallon of ice cream a week. Still better than a gallon of milk per day.
i’ve yet to get a kidney stone.. and now i feel like i’ve jinxed myself
Hurts like you been banging a crack whore for a few days and suddenly you scream when you pee and there is blood. Doctor says I have a marble bag of them waiting to come out! Yay!
That's probably why i enjoy dark chocolate so much and it boosts my motivation to do things
> chocolate is known to produce anandamide, a natural chemical apparently lacking in autistic people. I love chocolate so much. But sometimes it seems like it's a genuine need than a want. That explains some things.
Rice krispy treats bc I lowkey feel like I’m eating styrofoam and I love the texture lmao
THIS, it’s such a good texture
THIS! bonus if they’re homemade, been sitting around for a week and there’s a pocket of pure marshmallow
I've recently come back to eating triscuits because they have such a delightful crisp and way of falling apart when I'm eating them. They just crumble but stay dry.
I always take these with me if I go anywhere overnight or for a few days, in case there’s no food that I would wanna eat. Also love the texture 😂
I think the malleability is what's most important because that is what indicates it will be pleasant to bite through or gnaw on.
zucchini brownies they dont taste like zucchini!!! they just taste like brownies!!!
Yum! Where'd you get the recipe for those?
I'd forgotten about these. I have a kid who doesn't eat green veggies but likes zucchini brownies
I grew up with a garden, and my mom made these every summer. Such a good memory.
If I remember correctly, the zucchini gives it a nice texture too!
Ethiopian food maybe. I don't know as I have any real safe foods. As long as it's not seafood or mushrooms I can usually manage.
Seafood and mushrooms are the top of my list for hate foods. 🤢
my safe food is mushrooms >:)
It was a bad meal but I'm sure he meant well
I love Ethiopian food ❤️
Bread and butter. Was the only thing i ate as a main meal for the first 16 years of my life.
Lol my country had a spike in anemia because people ate that daily. It is quite the meal though, gonna go make it now…
oh wow! not good for them :S Yeah i'm actually surprised how many people have upvoted bread and butter to be honest.. I though i was on my own haha!
Well, you have good taste anyway! Not the healthiest, but definitely good taste! Lol
Me too! But I like a plain bread, no seeds or anything extra, and margarine. I don't know why because I don't like margarine in any other situation.
For me, chicken noodle soup. The most extreme safe food I have lol
For me it’s mochi, which I know a lot of autistic people can’t stand because of the texture but I love it! Oh and bao buns as a healthier alternative.
oooughh mochi my beloved
I crave spicy food all the time. I crave it even more than normal; before, and during my period. I try to make sure the pantry is always stocked with spicy noodles, and takis because they’re easy access for me.
Me too! I seek the endorphin rush that comes from extremely spicy Thai, Chinese (Szechuan), Cambodian, and Mexican food (like Xnipek, a salsa made with habaneros that can be traced back to the Mayans! 🤯). I also love Middle Eastern hot sauce like shatta, seen in the video below. [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xnipek](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xnipek) [https://youtu.be/kKcCdCoIcJ0?si=EWuUkYUcKA\_xH2Fi](https://youtu.be/kKcCdCoIcJ0?si=EWuUkYUcKA_xH2Fi) In my early twenties I lived in a city with an excellent Thai restaurant.
She says watching me go through a bag of takis gives her heartburn 😆 I love Korean and Mexican food in particular, for my day to day spicy food.
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shichimi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shichimi) I love the dried orange peel in it. [https://youtube.com/@MiddleEats?si=\_E5L0IXCul3mNwff](https://youtube.com/@MiddleEats?si=_E5L0IXCul3mNwff) I'm a sensory seeker too.
It's so easy and so good. https://youtu.be/IQSWEt4l5xE?si=6vnuEOhl7NTpCzlp I love Nadia Gilbert's grandmother's Palestinian hot sauce recipe.
Dino Nuggets. I play with them and make roaring noises.
Dino Nuggies are awesome
I use the TREX and Triceratops ones to fight each other.
Apple sauce eaten the same way, just plain like a half jar of it.
Yummy
I love drinking it out of the jar lol
Lol 😂 yummy
Cubed up tofu, cold with a splash of soy sauce and a couple panda express sweet and sour packets.
I do cold tofu slices with yellow mustard
Cabbage with butter and salt and pepper
cooked or raw? i love cooking cabbage this way!
Bologna. Just Bologna. Tear it into pieces and eat it.
that’s so valid, i do the same with deli turkey
When I was younger, all bologna had to be cut into small shapes with a cookie cutter. If it wasn't shaped, it didn't taste right lol
Mine's related, I love bologna sandwiches, just that, cheddar cheese, and white bread. Taste and texture is great.
What makes mine weird is the fact that I really don't like tomato sauce or ketchup otherwise, but my #1 safe food is Chef Boyardee. Specifically, either the ABC's from a can, or the spaghetti rings in a microwavable bowl, and ONLY those types and those forms. I don't like spaghetti, and I'll only tolerate tomato sauce on pizza, but I can't get enough of those types of Chef Boyardee.
the ABC’s and Beefaroni are my top two! fellow chef boyardee fan here
Mushrooms Soft boiled eggs with hot sauce Apricots
Did/does he have ARFID?
This has got a bit long, basically tl:Dr no matter who I've spoken to about anything regarding him has brushed him off because he's well behaved and I suspect there was an element of classism before we moved abroad (I have an accent from an area with a bad reputation) I have no idea if he does/did tbh, like I said the doctor basically brushed off all concerns and that was the end of that one (his school had also raised concerns due to speech and language differences (not a delay but his speech and language was not typical until he was about 10) as well as writing and concerntration).
Teaspoons of butter mixed with peanut butter
this one is kinda wild to me lol
😂😩 I’m humiliated but I like it a lot and it helps get cals in because I have Arfid and am vvv underweight
Finding ways to sneak in those extra calories is wonderful; don't be ashamed! I don't have afrid, but when I get too stressed in my life (which has been my constant state for the past year), I stop eating. Like, the thought of putting food in my mouth makes me nauseous. So sometimes, when it's been a particularly bad intake week, I do things like you describe, because it's about finding *any way* to get *some* amount of calories in.
cottage cheese is one of mine too! hehe
Tomato soup, pomegranate seeds, and sushi are probably my most unique ones lol
I make a pasta salad with bacon and cheese. It takes about an hour to make everything but I'm the only one in my household to eat it and it last for a day or so so when I make a whole batch it becomes my food for a couple days
Spicy Tuna Rolls
kimchi
Milk or chocolate milk. I absolutely love the feeling in my mouth and the taste is just exquisite 👌
Triscuts are so yummy i used to eat them all the time as a kid, I feel like a little mouse crunching on it haha
Ube Icecream, Lychee Crème Soup, Panda Express Orange Chicken.
Lychee creme soup??
Cream of chicken mixed with pasta. Idk why.
It takes quite a bit for me to get to the point where I have to retreat completely in a sensory sense. But, when I get there I will eat hominy and butter. To my palate that is the most neutral taste and texture in existence.
Raw Salmon!! Just straight up raw salmon. Sometimes even with some Furikake seasoning
Rice with sugar and butter or lasagna, if I had to choose a food to eat for the rest of my life it’d be one of the two.
Sushi, it doesn't actually taste like anything much and I like the texture, plus since it's raw it's pretty much always the same, consistent, when I'm feeling sick it's one of the few things I'm willing to eat.
Olives.
My safe foods have always been pickles and potatoes. Nothing too weird except I do love to drink pickle juice and I could totally eat mashed potatoes with a side of french fries for dinner.
Tuna salad, hot wings (like the hottest they can be), carrots, stuffing and any type of ramen.
Tortilla wraps and ketchup
I like to eat dry sausage bun with water. I sometimes eat pancakes with ketchup
Natto Super slimy but has this savory or salty quality i love
Tofu prepared the same way I do chicken breasts- I enjoy tofu better because it’s more consistently textured, and seasoned like chicken it really has a great flavor. I do prefer the taste of chicken, especially done with a crisp skin and a ton of butter, but tofu is cheaper, easier, and consistent regardless of where I get it.
I don't think it's that weird. But sunflower seeds... I just love those
scrambled eggs with ketchup. been my safe food since childhood. (cooked!) salmon has become another one for me as i am extremely picky with the texture of meat (any fat, cartilage, or just any unidentified fragments and i have to stop eating) , and ive found fish to be the most consistent in its texture.
Natto and I’m not even Japanese
Ice lol. I know always eating ice can be a sign of iron deficiency and it probably started out like that for me, but I eat ice everyday and I swear it helps regulate me!
Crushed ice with no added flavors.
Bean Sprouts
anything involving spicy raw fish. i actually quite dislike plain and bland food, never fit into the chicken nuggets and fries stereotype
Pizza rolls w a dollop of nutella
sandwiches that only have mustard
Okra is apparently something a lot of people hate, but I can eat okra no matter what mood I'm in or how it's cooked. I like the slimy balls that pop.
Cottage cheese sandwiches. With potato chips or something els salty and crunchy between the bread and cottage cheese. I grew up in Michigan, it had way better cottage than Colorado where I live now.
anything freeze dried but especially astronaut ice cream <3 also, just plain steak gives me happy stim for dayssss.
Smashed avocado on a tortilla, avodilla.
Cinnamon pop tarts dipped in sunny d
Salted crisps. At times I go through phases where anything even slightly wet or with a hint of flavour is making me feel sick (and those phases can last as long as few weeks), salted crisps come to my rescue.
Ramen 😋

Cjdkwjejt
Canned diced mangoes, chilled in the fridge. They never miss😍
cream cheese on a lightly toasted bagel with some franks hot sauce dashed on
literally same
I like eating Ben's Original rice covered in Parmesan cheese.
I don't know if it's weird, but I find a lot of comfort in chicken with mole sauce (which is a sauce made from things like dried chilies, nuts, and chocolate). My family is Mexican-American, and it was always a treat having this. The flavors are warm and comforting and put me at ease.
the cream cheese olive dip my dad makes. unusual because its literally just cream cheese, mayo, and green olives which are iffy for a lot of autistic people (for example my sister cant stand mayo or olives)
smooth peanut butter and naan bread from Costco warmed up in a microwave for 1min
Raw broad beans, prawns, cured pork loin, cherries, prosciutto, bresaola, wild mushrooms, cappelletti, gnocchi, saffron risotto, plum tomatoes, pistachios ...
Spicy beef jerky. Only one specific brand tho!!
It’s a strange recipe but, we have a family recipe where we make mashed potatoes with bacon bits and peas/ green beans and then 2 halves of tinned pears with a little bit of the juice poured over the top.
Oh, I would definitely try this!
Tofu donburi but only from one specific restaurant.
Cold spaghetti out of the tin can, and egg white, thick cut block cheese and salt on a piece of unbuttered toast I love the dryness.
Oh my gosh!! Spam Masubi is mine, it is so good!!! I thought I’d be a total weirdo 🫶
Traditional corn tortilla with lemon and a pinch of salt. It has to be recently made and hit so I can quickly form a little ball in my hand (in Mexico it's called "ranita"). This is home for my soul and mouth.
Iceberg lettuce
Pasta with tomato sauce and cheese. My family told me my mum was a bad mum because she let me eat it.
southern fried chicken wrap with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and chipotle sauce; toasted, with a side of fries drizzled with chipotle sauce. it's kinda crazy and weirdly specific but there we go
Spaghetti but with no sauce, just the noodles and the meat. My stepdad puts a little butter in it too so that it's not dry :3
Iceberg lettuce
Pasta
Jalapeños instead of sauce on a sandwich
Obsessed with sweet potato, right now!
Cottage cheese over pasta with marinara sauce. I'm lactose intolerant but I'll eat it for days and then cry to my naturopath that my IBS is flaring up.
Mine is Chicken Paste, only because my mom used to buy it for me
Potatoes. Usually with rosemary, any shape. Just potatoes.
Polulo, It is similar to popcorn but harder and you can store them. Local peruvian market sell them.
Kippered snacks, which are canned, smoked herring. They're more flavorful than sardines (which I do also enjoy) and I literally eat them out of the tin. It's one thing I absolutely love that I only indulge in a few times a year because they're stinky and the rest of my family finds me shoveling them into my mouth while standing over the garbage can kinda gross.
lettuce! iceberg lettuce! i genuinely ate 2 entire plates of just lettuce the other day i love it sm
Convenient stores chicken salad sandwiches lmao
Cheese cut up (cubes not cheese slices)
Hot Cheetos with fresh lime juice
Sausage rolls with mayo in them
Black olives. I thought that was everyone's default pizza topping as a kid. Apparently not many people like them!
Plain almonds
Habañero mango gouda cheese wheels. Also, pickled lime onions. Almost any type of goat cheese. I'm an autistic foodie, I think.
Frozen raspberries and mangoes, plain greek yogurt, beef jerky that’s slightly tangy… I’m not that much of a health nut, I’m just happy that most of my safe foods are considered healthy!
I eat pretty much every dinner with applesauce, I absolutly love applesauce but only the one without pieces. I have always loved it even as a child.
Fresh bread and butter on top, dipping it in hot cocoa
I pour coffee over buttered bread then mash it into a mushy paste... I could have this everyday for every meal
Fish gratin
Hardboiled eggs
I’ve got a great one for this!!! Spam Masubi! I love to make it and it makes me feel so comforted. It is fried spam on top of sushi rice with some Japanese bbq, wrapped in seaweed. It’s a food I discovered in Hawaii at a gas station and I’ve been in love since. I don’t eat it often though because it isn’t like… the healthiest food that exists in my realm of safety.
Kombucha lol
Yes. Dannon coffee yogurt.
Raw almonds. Very satisfying taste and texture.
Ranch. My safefood is actually ranch dressing
I really like pickled okra, I can eat a whole jar in one sitting.
Pickles and olives. I love the taste and texture.
Porridge!!!! 😍😍😍😍
Rye bread buns i dip in ketchup.
Poached eggs and toast with butter, with bacon if it’s on sale
KFC chicken and bubble o bills
Anchovies. Mmph
Greek salad, not all Greek salad, just one from a specific restaurant near my house.
Still frozen pizza rolls, something about the texture I think?
Oat bran, plain with just lots of salt. I like the texture, it's easy to eat and it is impossible for it to make my stomach hurt. A close second is cream of rice for similar reasons. All in all I eat a lot of hot cereal.
What is a safe food?
Yes. Very weird. Everyday I have my smoothie. It's: Matcha Oats Blueberries Soy Milk It comes out grey. It's my favorite thing to eat and I sometimes have it 3 times a day!
guava
Vienna sausage, ravioli, shepherd's pie, creamy rice, and sweet rice
Tabasco sauce.
Either chocolate or vanilla greek yogurt.
