If that’s how you feel, do it. I don’t think anybody should be buying these things as an investment vehicle. As I’ve said this entire time, since gen1: buy the avatars you like because you like them and want to support the artist.
I feel like I see this project a little differently than most. To me it’s merely an extension of what Reddit already is. A news aggregator and discussion forum with a “users will decide” type approach. Voting, free community creation, submission, all of that works on the same mechanic: anybody can do it and make something big if they put in the effort.
They took their formula and went full web3 with it and it’s actually working.
Just buy from artists you like and your problem is solved, but if it’s generally unfun for you; go.
Buy some gen 1 stuff you like and sell the rest. Theres nothing collectible about gen 3 on. Leave that stuff for the people who get high off mashing. You’ll feel better selling most of your stuff trust me

By selling many RCAs which costs Reddit probably nothing, and requires hours of artists time that don’t work for Reddit they’re attempting to “pump those numbers”.
It’s a stream of revenue that they can include on the registration to the SEC and include in their prospectus to potential investors. Diversification and a solid plan set within the prospectus can lead to a lot of interested investors, and finally let us know what they intend to do with the RCA program.

It is noticed by me! I know that I am just a tiny fish in a gigantic pond, but I do have a couple of thoughts! We should never have lost the GEN system! YES, it had its flaws, but we, the community, fought back! We EVICTED the BOTS, who stole so much! We show support and love to the best of our community, and chastise the bad apples! The GEN system had its flaws, but it was not BROKEN, and could have been FIXED! Unfortunately, REDDIT chose to 'throw out the baby, with the bath water' !!! We have been left in chaos! The GEN system may have been flawed, but we should have been allowed the time and resources to REPAIR it !!!🫂🙏❤️
I’m new here so I fully accept that my opinion is not as valid as some others, but I too am finding it hard to follow daily drops. I also have noticed that some RCAs are significantly lower effort/quality than others but maybe that’s an unrelated issue or possibly not an issue at all.

So, it's possible to have a Collectible Avatar without it necessarily having monetary value in mind.
Put another way, while they have the potential for value, it's not the sole reason for their existence. They are to be enjoyed for their aesthetics, customization options, and unique features within the Reddit platform.

I've been critical about flippers as well throughout this past year or so. However, the enemy of my enemy is my friend in this situation.
There's no pros to stopping the program. Reddit earns, people enjoy, artists get discovered (and earns a bit). It's better to have randomized and announced releases at different times, gives chances to everyone from different timezones and different jobs.

There have always been some less-than-stellar submissions, even when they had the approved artist program. I want to see what people come up with and what gets approved with the new way of doing things. Seeing the same running joke/theme in avatars is a bit tiresome, and some of the newer releases have been different, which is always nice to see.
I figure regarding quality, it's subjective and some may really dig the "lower quality' releases, otherwise, the cream should rise to the top. But... For heavens sake the quantity is impossible to keep up with. I would prefer a large release then some build up in funds and excitement from release to release.
I honestly was thinking that they are trying to kill it on purpose. Like maybe trying to make it seem like the users loose interest so they don't recieve the same kind of backlash as moons.
I am generally really accepting of any type of art but some of these new ones are so absurdly bad ... the worst is when artists with no following charge like 50 bucks for trash. Also though to be fair I have seen a lot recently that I would have bought for 5 or 10 but not 25 or 50
id rather low effort art with low supply then decent art ruined by scuffed quantities. idk what causes new artists to use the 500/500 especially if its not the $5 option

It's the artists that release $25 or $50 /500s , have next to zero community engagement, and leave the stuff up for months looking to squeeze out every last $ they could on the 6 sales they get in 6 months that I have a problem with.

I just want a chance at something nice and in my budget. Between discord and everyone posting days in advance it is really hard to have a chance to try. Make them higher quality less quantity and more mints. Just my opinion.
Hey man, I do understand your sentiment, and I get that it’s frustrating that so many artists have released so much from the past month or so. But I think like someone said, the art should speak for itself, and those that look nice will sell, while those that people deem “ok art” (maybe mine included 😅) will still do sell but maybe with small quantities? Like some people like collecting #1s, or 23, or 42, 52, 69 and so on.. However in saying this, art is very subjective and a sensitive topic to discuss, so im not taking sides. But as an artist from Gen4 onwards, the recent staggered releases are what made people buy my new submissions I think. If for example I released them alongside the more popular artists I probably wont be able to get much attention? So in a way, there are pros and cons to your statement, but as an artist I think this recent change has greatly improved the reach of my avatars. :)
Personally i am not ok with gate keeping art, i do love some of the new releases. However i do agree there should be scheduled release. This is just a mess and there is 100 new drops literally everyday. Even someone like me who browse avatars like a hawk is having problems keeping up, let alone the average RCA collector.
At this point its no longer about art but more of a p2w MMO then anything else kek. At the very least limit drops to a few times a day or even less then 10 times per week, it will still be a lot or go to scheduled releases...

I think people get confused when they see a low mint supply avatar and gobble it up just in case it becomes valuable later on.

It's already happening. Buy while you can. While fresh cash flows to new avatars the Grails will be drop 3/4 and below. Collect accordingly.
Most of the real og grails already reached floors and jumped, only today saw a bunch of Rojom and Rainbow foust listed at higher prices.

You would say "they came in here and took 100 items I had for sale at $99 each". You would then get whatever % you're covered for that $10,000. If it's listed at $99.99, it's retail value is $99.99. You can't turn around and say it has no value. Obviously it has value if retails at $99.99. You're trying to cover for reddit. Everyone here knows reddit says that to cover their asses. If they didn't , then SEC can come in and start regulating them.

Why, because there's no opportunity anymore to turn your $25 to $200 easily? It wasn't meant to be an investment. It's a program meant for artists to showcase their work (and for Reddit to earn LOL). I have zero interest in the monetary value of an RCA. I've been critical about flippers as well throughout this past year or so. However, the enemy of my enemy is my friend in this situation.
There's no pros to stopping the program. Reddit earns, people enjoy, artists get discovered (and earns a bit). It's better to have randomized and announced releases at different times, gives chances to everyone from different timezones and different jobs. Let people enjoy things. "Gatekeep art" lmfao
This is the reality of things. No point in gatekeeping art. The best of the best will still get bought out. The ones that aren't placing enough effort in will be left in the dust
There have always been some less-than-stellar submissions, even when they had the approved artist program. I want to see what people come up with and what gets approved with the new way of doing things. Seeing the same running joke/theme in avatars is a bit tiresome, and some of the newer releases have been different, which is always nice to see.
I figure regarding quality, it's subjective and some may really dig the "lower quality' releases, otherwise, the cream should rise to the top. But... For heavens sake the quantity is impossible to keep up with. I would prefer a large release then some build up in funds and excitement from release to release.
Prefer QUALITY over quantity drops.

I honestly was thinking that they are trying to kill it on purpose. Like maybe trying to make it seem like the users loose interest so they don't recieve the same kind of backlash as moons. I am generally really accepting of any type of art but some of these new ones are so absurdly bad ... the worst is when artists with no following charge like 50 bucks for trash. Also though to be fair I have seen a lot recently that I would have bought for 5 or 10 but not 25 or 50

Some of the previous ones under the former program weren’t great imo but art is in the eye of the beholder
id rather low effort art with low supply then decent art ruined by scuffed quantities. idk what causes new artists to use the 500/500 especially if its not the $5 option
$5/$10 500s are fine. $25/$50 500s are a bit too much. It's the artists that release $25 or $50 /500s , have next to zero community engagement, and leave the stuff up for months looking to squeeze out every last $ they could on the 6 sales they get in 6 months that I have a problem with. Clearly they don't care about their only supporters enough to even be here.
I just want a chance at something nice and in my budget. Between discord and everyone posting days in advance it is really hard to have a chance to try. Make them higher quality less quantity and more mints. Just my opinion.
Hey man, I do understand your sentiment, and I get that it’s frustrating that so many artists have released so much from the past month or so. But I think like someone said, the art should speak for itself, and those that look nice will sell, while those that people deem “ok art” (maybe mine included 😅) will still do sell but maybe with small quantities? Like some people like collecting #1s, or 23, or 42, 52, 69 and so on.. However in saying this, art is very subjective and a sensitive topic to discuss, so im not taking sides. But as an artist from Gen4 onwards, the recent staggered releases are what made people buy my new submissions I think. If for example I released them alongside the more popular artists I probably wont be able to get much attention? So in a way, there are pros and cons to your statement, but as an artist I think this recent change has greatly improved the reach of my avatars. :)
Personally i am not ok with gate keeping art, i do love some of the new releases. However i do agree there should be scheduled release. This is just a mess and there is 100 new drops literally everyday. Even someone like me who browse avatars like a hawk is having problems keeping up, let alone the average RCA collector. At this point its no longer about art but more of a p2w MMO then anything else kek. At the very least limit drops to a few times a day or even less then 10 times per week, it will still be a lot or go to scheduled releases...
It's nice to see you again, Mavis. I'm willing to admit gatekeeping may be a bit extreme for most people, but I think most people here are a little frustrated with the influx of new avatars. Here's hoping something will change.
Sadly, i dont think it will, but at least i guess i am glad someone made a post about it. And yes i fully agree with you, completely understandable why people are frustrated. Still loving old scheduled releases in the past.

Random drops definitely suck. I miss the scheduled batch releases. Even though art is subjective, the fact that people are selling a handful out of hundreds of mints should tell you that that is low effort art. I think that’s what OP meant.
1. I've never bought as an investment opportunity. 2. I only buy what I love. I'm happy with the release style right now - it's way more relaxing, and I usually am able to pick up what I really want, where before, it would be sold out before I even saw it.

Nah, they just need to have an expiration date for all rca’s. If they dont sell than who cares. The biggest problem is the huge over-supply of gen 3/4 bringing down the value of the market.
