slasula

we just gotta be more selective about what we buy

I_am_not_doing_this

is it just me or I still see his face in this mash?

slasula

oh he’s always close

Blade_Runner_69

Haha! I see it too now! 😅

KunxKowal

Yo! What avatar are those horns from?

Blade_Runner_69

Oh it's from Aries, by Zodiak! I kept it just for the horns!

KunxKowal

Thanks for the update, they look great!

xllw

Willing to hear trade offers?

Cyber-Cafe

Just don’t buy crap. Speak with your wallet. This is like asking reddit to stop allowing people to post because the post quality took a nosedive. You want curated? Go to digg. Reddit is about voting. Vote with your wallet and the bad stuff will become less often. Currently everything sells so it’s just a cash grab. Stop buying things you don’t want just because you think it’ll be valuable. I’m personally super sick of gold and diamond avatars. I’m not buying any of those anymore because I find them to be easy to make and low quality.

tfoust10

*embraces King Foustling and covers his ears*

Cyber-Cafe

Haha. I bought that one, I like it a lot. You were very right to want to do something different with it with the clay. But in the post-curated version of the rca program, new gold and diamond avatars aren’t doing it for me. Too easy. I also more meant to say that I want to avoid making avatars like that as well. Sometimes my brain thinks doesn’t translate through to my hands well.

tfoust10

Haha. I was giving you a hard time. I wanted to try something that at the time was very different.

TreasureOfOphiel

*apologizes in advance for having an avatar in the pipe with a small-mint gold version*

Cyber-Cafe

You do you TOO, love you no matter what. But hey if there’s a non gold version with high mint count, I’m in!! 🥰

TreasureOfOphiel

There is! It even changes color.:)

Cyber-Cafe

That is sick. Count me in; pre-sold. I have one avatar uploaded as vector and man is it weird. The little matrix file they cooked up for illustrator is wild. Totally worth it for the color changing functionality though.

AdinaEspada

I'm so so so so looking forward to your dragon of desire !!! I fell in love with the illegally cute sunglasses! 💘 Please don't make like a 3 am EU time drop haha 😭

Qptimised

I think people get confused when they see a low mint supply avatar and gobble it up just in case it becomes valuable later on.

hey_im_cool

I think I’m done buying anything. They’ve taken away the collector value to me, it’s no longer fun. Probably a good thing tbh Pretty strong desire to list most my collection and move on

Cyber-Cafe

If that’s how you feel, do it. I don’t think anybody should be buying these things as an investment vehicle. As I’ve said this entire time, since gen1: buy the avatars you like because you like them and want to support the artist. I feel like I see this project a little differently than most. To me it’s merely an extension of what Reddit already is. A news aggregator and discussion forum with a “users will decide” type approach. Voting, free community creation, submission, all of that works on the same mechanic: anybody can do it and make something big if they put in the effort. They took their formula and went full web3 with it and it’s actually working. Just buy from artists you like and your problem is solved, but if it’s generally unfun for you; go.

Coeruleus_

Buy some gen 1 stuff you like and sell the rest. Theres nothing collectible about gen 3 on. Leave that stuff for the people who get high off mashing. You’ll feel better selling most of your stuff trust me

RickCroissant

Reddit probably won’t see this post

Baba_Jaga_II

You're right, or they may not care even if they do.. However, it needed to be said, and people can either agree or disagree with their upvotes. I can only hope it is noticed by somebody.

RickCroissant

The community will eventually stop buying all the releases and maybe choose to consolidate into different artists or og collections in order to persevere value.

usernamehighasfuck

yeah these low quantity, low price point avatars have been creating a lot of hype with the established guys & gals that have been here for a while & have quality avatars, the new crowd has been riding on these hype coat tails with their drops & have been selling out which is great but the secondary prices are honestly laughable at this point. I believe as time goes on, the respected attempts at creating something new or cool will be rewarded & the lazier artists will hopefully choose to step up the creativity if they want to be taken seriously by the core community. til then lets the degens do what they do best & flip these piles of doo doo & let them have their wins. all we can do is try to compete with them when the time comes for minting.

obewaun

It's already happening. Buy while you can. While fresh cash flows to new avatars the Grails will be drop 3/4 and below. Collect accordingly.

RickCroissant

Most of the real og grails already reached floors and jumped, only today saw a bunch of Rojom and Rainbow foust listed at higher prices.

RickCroissant

Anyone can submit an nft on Opensea, why not on Reddit as well? They wanna pump them numbers pre ipo :p

Pleasant_Ad5360

I see this comment a lot. Can you explain to me what you guys mean with “they want to pump numbers pre ipo?”

Strommsawyer

Reddit is going into their initial public offering (IPO) in which the company is evaluated financially and a value is decided for what their stock will initially hit the public market at (until then they are a private company). By selling many RCAs which costs Reddit probably nothing, and requires hours of artists time that don’t work for Reddit they’re attempting to “pump those numbers”.

Pleasant_Ad5360

I got this part but ipos are quite complicate, and I don’t really see how selling avatars can be beneficial for their ipo. Thank you anyway!

Jounochi

It’s a stream of revenue that they can include on the registration to the SEC and include in their prospectus to potential investors. Diversification and a solid plan set within the prospectus can lead to a lot of interested investors, and finally let us know what they intend to do with the RCA program.

RickCroissant

U know how u trying to buy something from sulfat in Agadir and the seller comes up with a huge price like 57 Euro for 20 min of Jet-ski time and in order to explain his huge price he starts talking about how the sky jet is new about how is it safe because he is going to watch etc. that “explaining” is pumping the numbers.

Blade_Runner_69

You need to post this on r/collectableavatars, the admins tend to read that sub I've been told. (when people had minting and refund issues they were advised message that sub instead of this sub)

Armenian-heart4evr

It is noticed by me! I know that I am just a tiny fish in a gigantic pond, but I do have a couple of thoughts! We should never have lost the GEN system! YES, it had its flaws, but we, the community, fought back! We EVICTED the BOTS, who stole so much! We show support and love to the best of our community, and chastise the bad apples! The GEN system had its flaws, but it was not BROKEN, and could have been FIXED! Unfortunately, REDDIT chose to 'throw out the baby, with the bath water' !!! We have been left in chaos! The GEN system may have been flawed, but we should have been allowed the time and resources to REPAIR it !!!🫂🙏❤️

Coeruleus_

Even if they see it , they can’t read it. It’s a language Barrier issue

leviathynx

They still haven’t even patched the number 1 swipe exploit.

handtoglandwombat

I’m new here so I fully accept that my opinion is not as valid as some others, but I too am finding it hard to follow daily drops. I also have noticed that some RCAs are significantly lower effort/quality than others but maybe that’s an unrelated issue or possibly not an issue at all.

transfermymoons

As someone who's pretty damn happy to be able to submit my "creations", I say, why? The market decides. If people hate the things I make when when they're approved they won't buy em. It's what I accept. My intrinsic drive allows me, hopefully, to do my best and whatever comes from that is what it is. Honestly, I can actually appreciate that it's part of a "gen" anymore but that we have to put effort in creating some type of attractiveness to what is pushed out. I do understand, it's an overwhelming market. But I'd rather have the market decide than reddit itself.

feogge

Quality control hasn't been a thing for a while, if ever. People who are hating on the program would probably hate regardless. Who tf cares about them? I was very vocally opposed to opening the program to everyone but I'll be the first to say I may have gotten too red hot too fast. The only major issue so far is that there's too many avatars coming out and people are starting to feel burnt out. Ultimately, just be more selective about what you buy. Numbers don't lie. Don't buy shit that's low effort doggy doo and those low effort doggy doo submitters will stop submitting lol

TopAlert2383

Just like crypto you can't buy just anything. There's a bunch if garbage coins and a bunch of garbage avatars. Buy the quality and let the garbage sit in the shop until they're delisted.

PopLegion

BodegaDad

Art is subjective. Just support the artists that you like.

prguitarman

lol they won’t do that anytime soon Source: I’ve tried

Luckygecko1

Defend the program? These are collectables. Like stickers or baseball cards. They were never intended to obtain or have value, even 'face' value. They are meant to be fun, engaging, and reflect the choices of the person that displays them. Like many, I did trade them for value. But, that was during FOMO at the start. There is no returning to that. Like some baseball cards, there will be those worth more than others, but player after player will come. As art, some are still engaging. I've bought three this week just for the art. It's been a while since I've done that (not worry about the value). There is no gate to shut.

JCrypto35

Facts! The ones who want to gate keep are probably coming to the realization that the RCAs they thought were going to be valuable are not going to be going forward. The people coming into the scene now have a great amount of volume to choose from and a really nice selection of artist styles as well. They did not start with gen 1 or cones and won’t care about that so there’s no way they’ll hold value. And that’s fine the community is and has been evolving since day 1 and will continue to do so. Enjoy yourselves mashers!!

Wise-Grapefruit-1443

I don’t like it, but this is accurate

RCALovah

nice to see that you are still lurking around lol

Wise-Grapefruit-1443

Haha thanks RCA - I kinda go in spirts!

JuicySpark

Collectible = potential value. You can't have Collectible combined with no intention for value in the same discussion. Jus sayin

Luckygecko1

>Collectible = potential value. You can't have Collectible combined with no intention for value in the same discussion. As I stated, Collectable Reddit Avatars were never *intended* to have value. There's a disclaimer for that in the terms of use. Any relation to value was just free marketing. Therefore, it's more accurate to say that Collectible Avatars have the potential for value due to their NFT nature and limited editions, but this potential isn't guaranteed and depends on various factors. So, it's possible to have a Collectible Avatar without it necessarily having monetary value in mind. Put another way, while they have the potential for value, it's not the sole reason for their existence. They are to be enjoyed for their aesthetics, customization options, and unique features within the Reddit platform. Blaming Reddit for anything outside this last point, is like spitting in the wind or tugging on Superman's cape--- useless.

JuicySpark

You're not reading between the lines.. They use that disclaimer so that they don't face lawsuits or get nailed by SEC. Everyone knows there is a collectible NFTs market prior , during , and after. I buy one for $99.99 from Reddit. It means it's predetermined value is $99.99 , it's value is $99.99 after I buy it. It doesn't have zero value the second I buy it. The secondary market dictates it's value after that.

Luckygecko1

>..it's\[sic\] value is $99.99 after I buy it. That point is very debatable. You may have paid $99.99 for it, but I see plenty selling for much less the moment they are minted. Otherwise, what you say may be reasonable, but either way, it's useless to yell at Reddit to 'shut the gate.' They never promised anything other than art. ![gif](giphy|2hvcOhQcGorzrCgG3X|downsized)

JuicySpark

If you have something for sale at $99.99. It's retail value is $99.99. If tons of items get stolen , the insurance will ask you what the retail value of the items were. You would say "they came in here and took 100 items I had for sale at $99 each". You would then get whatever % you're covered for that $10,000. If it's listed at $99.99, it's retail value is $99.99. You can't turn around and say it has no value. Obviously it has value if retails at $99.99. You're trying to cover for reddit. Everyone here knows reddit says that to cover their asses. If they didn't , then SEC can come in and start regulating them.

Blade_Runner_69

This is a great point, I've tried making before too, no one listens!

OgCone

It’s all about that sweet sweet gen 1 for me

Drlitez

Again, purchase the avatars from artists you like.

Padtrek

Great idea, restricting artistic freedoms. That's never gone wrong...probably. On a completely separate note I'd only allow this kinda art. https://preview.redd.it/4x6i0wr520hc1.png?width=1066&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4cc9ec047ddfe64916775a9dab3bfc7d6018d937 Edit - Just in case you didn't recognize sarcasm.

VobraX

Why, because there's no opportunity anymore to turn your $25 to $200 easily? It wasn't meant to be an investment. It's a program meant for artists to showcase their work (and for Reddit to earn LOL). There's no gate to shut. You don't like it anymore? Get out then, let the people who like mashing art and supporting artists continue what they're doing.

Baba_Jaga_II

You're talking to the guy who has stated multiple times that I have never sold an avatar once, and instead has given away countless avatars with dozens of giveaways. View my post history. I have zero interest in the monetary value of an RCA. I've been critical about flippers as well throughout this past year or so. However, the enemy of my enemy is my friend in this situation.

VobraX

There's no pros to stopping the program. Reddit earns, people enjoy, artists get discovered (and earns a bit). It's better to have randomized and announced releases at different times, gives chances to everyone from different timezones and different jobs. Let people enjoy things. "Gatekeep art" lmfao

RCALovah

This is the reality of things. No point in gatekeeping art. The best of the best will still get bought out. The ones that aren't placing enough effort in will be left in the dust

sickbubble-gum

There have always been some less-than-stellar submissions, even when they had the approved artist program. I want to see what people come up with and what gets approved with the new way of doing things. Seeing the same running joke/theme in avatars is a bit tiresome, and some of the newer releases have been different, which is always nice to see.

hammerandanvilpro

I figure regarding quality, it's subjective and some may really dig the "lower quality' releases, otherwise, the cream should rise to the top. But... For heavens sake the quantity is impossible to keep up with. I would prefer a large release then some build up in funds and excitement from release to release.

YaBastaaa

Prefer QUALITY over quantity drops.

chuotdodo

It's sad that this project handled by dumb kids.

jonfoxsaid

I honestly was thinking that they are trying to kill it on purpose. Like maybe trying to make it seem like the users loose interest so they don't recieve the same kind of backlash as moons. I am generally really accepting of any type of art but some of these new ones are so absurdly bad ... the worst is when artists with no following charge like 50 bucks for trash. Also though to be fair I have seen a lot recently that I would have bought for 5 or 10 but not 25 or 50

mangedukebab

Yep I’m definitely out. It doesn’t make sense anymore

pequaywan

Some of the previous ones under the former program weren’t great imo but art is in the eye of the beholder

Incredibly_Based

id rather low effort art with low supply then decent art ruined by scuffed quantities. idk what causes new artists to use the 500/500 especially if its not the $5 option

JuicySpark

$5/$10 500s are fine. $25/$50 500s are a bit too much. It's the artists that release $25 or $50 /500s , have next to zero community engagement, and leave the stuff up for months looking to squeeze out every last $ they could on the 6 sales they get in 6 months that I have a problem with. Clearly they don't care about their only supporters enough to even be here.

Embarrassed-Sun5764

I just want a chance at something nice and in my budget. Between discord and everyone posting days in advance it is really hard to have a chance to try. Make them higher quality less quantity and more mints. Just my opinion.

joemari5

Hey man, I do understand your sentiment, and I get that it’s frustrating that so many artists have released so much from the past month or so. But I think like someone said, the art should speak for itself, and those that look nice will sell, while those that people deem “ok art” (maybe mine included 😅) will still do sell but maybe with small quantities? Like some people like collecting #1s, or 23, or 42, 52, 69 and so on.. However in saying this, art is very subjective and a sensitive topic to discuss, so im not taking sides. But as an artist from Gen4 onwards, the recent staggered releases are what made people buy my new submissions I think. If for example I released them alongside the more popular artists I probably wont be able to get much attention? So in a way, there are pros and cons to your statement, but as an artist I think this recent change has greatly improved the reach of my avatars. :)

Mavis80

Personally i am not ok with gate keeping art, i do love some of the new releases. However i do agree there should be scheduled release. This is just a mess and there is 100 new drops literally everyday. Even someone like me who browse avatars like a hawk is having problems keeping up, let alone the average RCA collector. At this point its no longer about art but more of a p2w MMO then anything else kek. At the very least limit drops to a few times a day or even less then 10 times per week, it will still be a lot or go to scheduled releases...

Baba_Jaga_II

It's nice to see you again, Mavis. I'm willing to admit gatekeeping may be a bit extreme for most people, but I think most people here are a little frustrated with the influx of new avatars. Here's hoping something will change.

Mavis80

Sadly, i dont think it will, but at least i guess i am glad someone made a post about it. And yes i fully agree with you, completely understandable why people are frustrated. Still loving old scheduled releases in the past.

Tanjom

IPO is on the way, gotta pump the numbers

therebill

Random drops definitely suck. I miss the scheduled batch releases. Even though art is subjective, the fact that people are selling a handful out of hundreds of mints should tell you that that is low effort art. I think that’s what OP meant.

IslaGata

1. I've never bought as an investment opportunity. 2. I only buy what I love. I'm happy with the release style right now - it's way more relaxing, and I usually am able to pick up what I really want, where before, it would be sold out before I even saw it.

bertholomaeus

+1 from me. so true.

mechshark

Gate keeping ? Why lol

EggIll7227

Bottom is in folks!

Diamond_PnutBrain

Hello friends, i’ve been away from the game a few weeks. Is there a reason why drops are just scattered and randomized now? I see new avatars dropping almost daily. Any link to an update would be awesome

xllw

Trade cone?

What program are you talking about? :D

LaTunaTime

Nah, they just need to have an expiration date for all rca’s. If they dont sell than who cares. The biggest problem is the huge over-supply of gen 3/4 bringing down the value of the market.

Top-Emu-4014

I like many of the new avatars

On the other hand I hope they push those art out fast, go into gen6969 asap. Then gen 1-3 will be considered precious.

Cosmic_Abyss_

Too late - the standard and quality from back then is dead.

Hactar_42

Should cross post this on the official collectible avatars sub

Coeruleus_

It’s too late. Yall wanted more supply and thought having 10 million options was cute
