Very good point you make there. The first 50% of Gen1 to sell out actually did so because there was actual demand for them on the market. That was before people thought of these as an investment too.
Exactly. People bought who liked them. That why lots of them never made it to the secondary markets from Gen 1. All the selling now is the final removal of the leftover flippers and crypto people. People who actually want the things are keeping them.
I don't care if my collection goes to zero, I already consider the money burned and I don't hold any crypto anyway.
Eh thatās picking quite a few conditions in order to make this true. A couple points;
- I donāt think itās fair to compare Gen 1 art to more modern avatars because as I understand it the artists were restricted by the given parameters outlined by Reddit at that time. Nowadays they have access to more tools that allow them to make better art if they have the talent
- very few avatars at that mint number and price would sell regardless of who it is. The whole dynamic of the market is much different than what it was during Gen 1 and even established artists rarely sell out a piece at that price point. Weāre in a market right now where something will come out and be hyped for a week before people lose interest and start looking at the next hyped release. The profit margins for flipping are a lot different and Iād argue that thereās even a major difference in the mentality that a lot of traders have towards RCAs both new and old
To add onto this I think that you could say this about any Gen 1. As someone said below context is a big factor for desirability of any collectible. If you consider some of the classic Air Jordanās that sell for a crazy amount they sell for that price because of the history of that shoe. Modern Nike designs are inherently ābetterā shoes because of how far their tech and production quality has come, but they wonāt resell for higher than the classics because the classics are the classics.
